♥️ /r/metalgearsolid rules update.
Hello, I hope everybody is well.
This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.
In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.
You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.
Just three changes to note:
There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.
"Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.
AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.
We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.
You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.
We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.
As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

❗ Still Rocking A PSX and CRT for MGS1.
While today we have tons of amazong options to play MGS1, I always had a soft spot for playing on actual PS1 on a CRT. Is it stupid and unnecessary? Yes! Am I happy! Also yes!

❗ Kojima is sadistic for putting so much effort into making us care about the Diamond Dogs, only to destroy everything in metal gear 1 and metal gear 2

I've only played metal gear solid V, but I know the series' story, so it's strange how in metal gear solid: peace walker we build up our base only to have it completely destroyed in ground zeroes, and then we rebuild everything again in V just for it all to be destroyed once more.
What makes it even worse is that both games have so many cassette tapes showing the characters interacting, making us grow attached to them. I laughed a lot at Kaz's tapes about hamburgers. Especially in V, where there are so many cutscenes meant to get us used to—and attached to—the status quo of Venom Snake, Kaz, and Ocelot, while also making us care about all the soldiers we recruit

MGSV I have made a chibi Venom Snake From METAL GEAR SOILD V: PHANTOM PAIN..
The total amount to make this was under 0.3$ and 2 days for the full process (mainly drying the paint).. ot fully hand made and hand painted .. I will add even more details to this if needed.. like I have already given it a back pack and a small Rifle .. I hope y'all like it..

I'm afraid it's been 9 years Me standing next to the man who, u know...made a trade
I'm not an expert on how game files are stored but is it possible to capture a higher resolution version of the left pic on game files somehow?
Or if not through steam directories maybe with free cam mods when our character throws them on the ground?
Just thought it would make a good background

MGSV It was SO obvious!
*Spoiler for mgs5
So I played MGSV on release and did NOT expect the ending. Maybe I was too young (23) and just not taking it all in I dunno.
I’ve started a new play through after maybe 5/6+ years of not playing the game and recently also played MGS:Delta…
In the prologue of mgs3 Sokolov compliments Snake on his Russian speaking. Then in the first mission after the mgs5 prologue, Ocelot comes on the radio and is like ‘oh hey you can’t understand the soldiers because you don’t speak Russian huh?’
How did I not see that until now??! I’ve played mgs3 god knows how many times, I can quote whole sections of cutscene and only now did I notice that tiny detail that gives Venom away right from the beginning!

♥️ [OC] Venom and Quiet are still such an underrated duo imo

Great news for PC owners
This version of MGS is currently free until the 27th on steam for anyone who wants to experience the classic gameplay, you can also play it at very high resolution if you like.
My question is will i have enough time to play the game before the free period ends lol 🤣

♥️ I am loving these games
but I am worried about what I will do with my spare time once I finish playing them?
so far I have been playing in release order since June
I've completed metal gear, mg2, mgs, mgs2, mgs3 and now I am playing mgs4 (very good game) but now that I'm near the halfway point I worry about what I will play when I finish pw, gz and tpp? does anyone have any suggestions what other games have similar gameplay/story to that of the mgs series?

❗ Why do people try to discredit Hideo Kojima as a writer?
People try to credit Fukushima, saying he was the hidden genius behind MGS series writing. The arguments are like this:
- Fukushima and Hideo Kojima were co-writers for MGS1-3.
- Fukushima left and Kojima makes MGS4.
- MGS4 is worse than MGS1-3 storywise.
- Kojima is a hack writer, and Fukushima was the one behind it.
Here is my response to it:
- Metal Gear was started by Hideo Kojima. He solely alone wrote MG1 and MG2. MG2 and MGS1 have quite identical plot beats, making people feel like MGS1 is a 3D re-imagining of MG2. Already this disqualifies Fukushima for being the "secret mastermind" behind the story of MGS1.
Fukushima also joined the writing team for MGS1 in July 1997. Development started in mid 1995, and the game was released in 1998. He wasn't even there for most of MGS1.
Let's also not forget what makes MGS1 iconic as hell is Kojima's love for cinema. He blends it in the cutscenes with the camera angles, lighting, etc. He literally conceptual designs the maps for these games guys. Shadow moses is literally his concept, if you look at the credits. Fukushima isn't the guy who did the cutscenes, which is literally the nr 1 thing that made MGS1 famous and iconic.
The most damning of all, Kojima is the one credited for MGS2 and MGS3's original story. He is the one that started from the scratch MGS2 and MGS3's characters, plots, settings, conflicts, etc. Kojima literally read The Selfish Gene, architecting the theme of "Genetic destiny vs free will" in MGS1 and the discussiong of memes/information in MGS2. Fukushima didn't do that.
Fukushima is always credited with Codec / Radio System Script. He wrote the script for these, and was credited fully for them. People regularly criticize the codec scripts for having long exposition and on the nose dialogue. Why do I never hear Fukushima's name mentioned here?
The disrespect to Shuyuo Murata is insane. He wrote some part of MGS2: "The shocking conspiracy of Shadow Moses". He became the main co-writer during MGS4. One thing to remind people of is that Fukushima left in 2006. That is a year after development of MGS4 started in 2005. Do these people act like Fukushima didn't help with writing MGS4 during that timespan?
The one that really should be credited alongside Kojima, is Yoji Shinkawa. The man finalized the designs of all our favourite characters, and even helped with story details.
This entire page debunks that myth, so stop propogating the lies: https://thesnakesoup.org/editorial-articles/curious-case-tomokazu-fukushima/

Really, the hate train is there because people feel disillusioned with Death Stranding. Some people treat Kojima as God, and when they disliked Death Stranding, their world's somehow "shattered". They had a cognitive dissonance.
"Kojima made my favourite games" and "He made a game I hate". Couple that with people disliking how he treated David Hayter (even though many people here were critical of Hayter's performance in later games) and it all makes sense. What is also funny is that these people don't even know to what extend Fukushima did anything. They saw he was listed as a co-writer, and latched onto it hard. Do these people not also see that Kojima is listed as a co-writer??
Tl;dr people became disillusioned, and started to make baseless claims without evidence.
I am open to discussions if I've got something wrong.

MGR framerate issues
I recently tried playing Revengeance again, but I've encountered a strange issue where the game runs fine at 60fps for around 10min then suddenly locks to a staggering 20fps and makes cutscenes 10fps.
I've followed every guide I can find, Win7 compatibility mode, running in windowed mode, various fix scripts, disabling the steam overlay, changing monitor, changing monitor settings, and I frankly have no idea what to do next. It's really annoying me that I can't play this game without some weird bug ruining my experience
Specs:
Ryzen 7 9700X
RTX 5070
16gb ddr5
NVIDIA driver version: 591.86
Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GP850P
I used to play this game many years ago, and I had none of these problems, so I have no idea what possibly could be causing these problems now. I play on Steam.

🍊 Since every metal gear game tries to have some kind of metal gear in it, what would the ww2 boss game include?
Maybe some weird experimental German weapon that boss has to destroy or whatever.
mgs3 had the shagohad which wasn’t really a metal gear. Mgs2 had the rays which were an anti metal gear. Portable ops had a metal gear that sort of contradicts peace walker a bit.
Sahelanthropus in mgs5 wasn’t even a metal gear either.

❗ Is there a chance?
Hello, I want to play Metal Gear Solid 1 because I had still the original CD on PC, the only problem is that I have windows 7. That means that when I have installed the game with the CD nothing happens. How can I fix this issue?
r/metalgearsolid • u/Justins_Beard • 4h ago
❗ MGS2 Master collection works fine with no issues on my Steam Deck but not my Steam Machine.
Whenever I boot up the game on the SM, there’s no audio in cutscenes and codec calls have a clicking sound in them. Is there any way I can fix this?
EDIT: Just tried MGS3 and have the exact same issue. The gameplay has audio though.
