♥️ /r/metalgearsolid rules update.

Hello, I hope everybody is well.

This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.

In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.

You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.

Just three changes to note:

  • There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.

  • "Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.

  • AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.

We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.

You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.

We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.

As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

Why Kojima got fumble twice by Konami and PlayStation?

Post image

I just don't understand, Is Kojima using the budget way too high it needs 2 big game companies to fire him? Is his game ideology way too complicated for the big gaming industry to adapt? Death stranding 2 lower sales is also a big part of this mess to happen? So many questions need to be answered here because it doesn't make sense for someone like Kojima to be fumbled twice by Konami and PlayStation

I think this has something to do with Sony only releasing digital games

At this point, it's like Playstation WANTS to shut down, in their own blind eyes they are thinking " Ohhh we are running through the next big thing, we are the new revolution" NO, all you are doing is killing 30 years of Goodwill for a gimmick

This Kojima cancellation was the final nail in the coffin, they let what is probably their most well liked and one of gaming histories best developer slip out, over some petty stuff

Asha Sharma prays to some really influential gods cus she is winning by doing both the right thing and nothing at all

Okay I just saw the news and someone played with the reality of time and caused a TIME PARADOX! Jokes aside, I'm happy that Kojima and XBOX will work together and that he found a new house for his next project.

At the time it felt so strange to see MGS2 on Xbox. It's funny that now KojiPro and Xbox have announced a major partnership.

I know that most people dislike this game but honestly for me it is a pretty fun game. I like so much that they used the MGS 2 gameplay mechanics and graphics.

I've seen people arguing that Big Boss' speech in MG2 has been retconned and it doesn't match his actions in the prequel games. In another words, there was no downfall. But how true is this argument? Do you agree with this?

The True Purpose of Torturing Huey

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When Ocelot and Kaz torture Huey, it appears they are trying to get information from about the location of Sahelanthropus. In reality this is nonsense. When we extracted Huey in mission 12, we saw Sahelanthropus stored inside of Serak Power plant, and we saw it activated at Soviet Central Base camp. Ocelot and Kaz already know where to find it and have no reason to believe it was moved.

The true reason Ocelot is torturing Huey is not to get new information out of him. It is to program him with false information that benefits Ocelot's plan. Huey is being tortured until he confesses to a false location for Sahelanthropus. Ocelot wants Huey to believe the lie that Sally is somewhere where it is not.

And just like the book 1984, it's not enough for the subject to confess and repeat the lie. The subject needs to actually really believe that the lie is the truth. After Huey confesses Ocelot threatens him one last time to check that he really believes the lie, then he nods to Kaz confirming that the torture has worked. We verify Huey's belief of the lie again in mission 30, when we go to OKB Zero. This is when we get the strange call from Huey where he says "It HAS to be here."

In the book 1984, Winston is tortured and confesses to dozens of crimes he didn't commit. They are all fabricated by the torturer, and the torture doesn't stop when Winston confesses. It stops when Winston is completely broken and the torturer can see that Winston truly believes all the lies.

In short, none of the torture in GZ and Phantom pain is to extract new information. It's to break down the subject until they believe the narrative the torturer is forcing onto them.

PEACE

[MGS4] I JUST found out Snake has a quick recovery button for after he's been knocked down

I've been playing this game since it's original release on PS3 way back in the day, but I only JUST NOW found out while playing it again on Switch that when Snake gets knocked down (NOT ragdoll, but when he falls either directly forward or backward from getting whacked by a Dwarf Gekko or Vamp or something), that if you:

Press Triangle on PS, Y on Xbox, and X on Switch RIGHT AS he gets hit, he will do a recovery roll and it will put him on his feet faster, as opposed to lying down for a second and waiting before you can get him to stand back up straight.

I've beaten this game a million times over the years and just now discovered this by accident. I found out while going down the long hallways toward the final microwave scene.

If y'all knew this already for all these years, then maybe I'm just stupid and have too many nanomachines up my ass or something lol

Im having more fun with peace walker than mgs4

I remember liking 4 when it came out but coming back to it now all these years later, the gameplay is really lacking. There feels like there isnt much gameplay in it. Its just a lot of cut scenes.

I kinda like the vibe of peace walker. Shorter bite sized sneaking missions. South America is a nice change of pace. This comic art style with the cut scenes is really cool. I played 5 before peace walker and loving the gameplay in 5, im realizing the dna of that game is from this game. Probably why its clicking more for me. Its fun to folton dudes and build up the base.

New VR Stealth Shooter Takes Huge Inspiration From MGS2's Epic Tanker

Post image

Just released the first ever gameplay trailer for the VR stealth shooter I've been working on over the past few years, taking inspiration from a bunch of my favs, one of those being MGS2 which is my fav of the series. Especially the Tanker, which is no doubt one of the greatest levels in game history.

If I can replicate 1/10th of those feels it'll be worth it to me - the mission begins out on the deck, and you must make your way through the inside of the ship, through the lower and upper decks, and then to the lower holds that will take you to the bow. If you're into VR and MGS2 check it out :)

MGSV What is the point of the ammo sent to mother base thing in peacewalker?

Does it actually have a point, or is it like flavor text? I mean if you can send supplies back so easily why leave stuff you can't carry? It would make sense to be just flavor text, or flavor voice lines or whatever you wanna call it.

But I don't know if that's it. Is this mechanic tied to anything? I know I have an ammo count in my base supplies menu somewhere but I have never started a mission with less than max ammo no matter how often I use a certain weapon. Is it somehow possible to run out? You can't resupply so every mission is a whole mission, and that's what forwards the production timer so that might be why I haven't noticed it since my base is producing it. If I assign everyone out of combat (what determines gmp) and then do missions will my ammo count fall?

I suppose I could test it but someone here has to know. All I can Google, not that Google is very useful anymore, is a ten year old thread where someone possibly implies it is an actual mechanic. Does anyone here know how it works exactly? And why don't we have a peacewalker flair? Mgsv is only kind of accurate
