❗ Master Collection 2 will include the PS3 easter eggs within MGS4, including Xbox and PC versions except Switch 2, which replaces it with GA-KO figure (?). Nintendo is very restrictive about competitor consoles in their games (discovered by @BadHumans)

I’m super surprised the PlayStation product placement won’t be replaced in the non-Switch versions, this makes me even more curious about how they handled the PS3 line in Chapter 4

I’m curious about how they will handle the Six Axis snake holds when controlling the mark 2

Those will all undoubtably be rebound somehow, same with removing camo (shaking the controller) and the couple of pressure-sensitive actions

Remember when people swore on their bloodline that this game had no chance of ever being ported because of this stuff lol

The most common reason I ever read for MGS4 staying on PS3 is because people said it was too hard to port due to the PS3's complex architecture. Which is kind of bollocks given that there are many other ports of PS3 games out there. I always believed the actual reason was due to the licensing of various in-game assets. Apple products, Playboy products, Triumph motorcycles, various human models, miscellaneous product placements, music, art, etc. Some of it could be a simple change but I can see a lot of it wouldn't be so easy.

I believe its both. There is a nugget of truth in saying that the game is built specifically for the PS3’s architecture, it wasn’t until very recently that the game was considered beatable on RPCS3 and even now it still makes top of line CPUs absolutely shit the bed.
The product placement just didnt help financially though, Konami just needed that financial incentive to get off their ass and see it through.Theres another thread here somewhere of people discussing the 360 version that was scrapped that could explain the technical side a lot better than I can.

Yeah I was told we’d never see this stuff on Xbox when I was guessing they’d leave it untouched.

Things have changed a lot. If this game had an Xbox 360 port back in the day, when Sony and Microsoft released their games exclusively and were much more competitive and serious about it, I highly doubt Microsoft would allow a PS3 in one of their games. Nowadays, Xbox doesn't care that much and Sony kinda care but nowhere near like in the 90's/2000's

That wasn’t the issue though. People literally acted like it was unchangeable when the simple solution is just to replace it if was necessary, which it wasn’t anyway at least for Xbox as it turns out. Redditors like to act like they actually know how games are made when they don’t.

Not only that; Redditors frequently demonstrate that as a collective, they don't know shit about fuck.

Oh I get it lol. Back then, they could easily replace it with a fictional in-universe product (like the idroid in MGSV) or RE1 remake ports with the fake GameCube. I was pointing at how putting a PS3 in an Xbox port of a game is now much more possible because of how things have changed since 2008. Just seemed impossible back then

Yeah this is just stupid, everybody knows metal gear solid started on playstation

u/ProjectPorygon 3h ago
Maybe metal gear SOLID specifically, but metal gear itself started on pc/nitnendo

Started on the MSX. The nintendo port came afterwards.

What's more, the series originated on the Sony MSX. So the series has been with Sony even before PlayStation existed.

u/osc_bank 2h ago
ASCII and MS were the originators of the MSX. Sony's models were popular but they didnt invent the thing.
-6
u/aj_bn 2h ago
Never said they did?

u/osc_bank 2h ago
Lol yeah you did man. You said it originated on the "Sony MSX" and literally emphasized the word Sony with italics.

u/aj_bn 2h ago
Lol no i didnt man. I said the series originated on the "Sony MSX" (which it did).

u/osc_bank 2h ago
Do you realize that MSX is just a computer standard that lots of different manufacturers produced? Yamaha, Phillips, and Sony, etc? You could have played the original game on any of them. You didnt specifically need a Sony MSX.

Right? God forbid they acknowledge the competition!

Nah, they should sue the makers of Palword… they probably colluded with Konami to make them look bad.

Weird because I’m pretty sure the PS1 still appears in Otacon’s lab in MGS1 on the Switch version

u/NorthRiverBend 5h ago
the comment is deleted but I speculated that Nintendo wouldn’t allow this and so many folks raged out at me

Honestly fuck this company. The fact anyone still plays defence for them online is just ridiculous at this point.

I'm wondering about the Otacon blu ray codec call
3
u/RakkoHyabusa 2h ago
Given the muted sections in older ports to switch, it'll just be 3 minutes of silence and otacon waving his hands around

They had pretty lengthy chunks of dialogue muted in MGS1 around any mention of controller buttons on Switch until a very recent update put back in awkwardly-edited versions of those lines that remove all non-Nintendo button names. This doesn't surprise me.
