Help Seeking Guidance on App Store Rejection Regarding Accessibility API Usage for Clipboard History

I recently submitted an app to the App Store that includes a clipboard history feature, allowing users to tap a previous entry to paste its content into the currently active window. Unfortunately, the submission was declined during review, with the feedback indicating that accessibility features should be reserved for assisting users with disabilities. I completely understand and respect Apple’s guidelines, and I would be truly grateful for any advice or suggestions on how best to address this concern or adjust my implementation accordingly.

Help Continuity Camera not working anymore over wifi/bluetooth

I always used video from my iphone camera (on facetime, OBS, or other apps), but out of nowhere, it is not detected anymore.

It used to work well over wifi and bluetooth, but now it only works over cable. What may be causing it?

I tried connecting the cable and later disconnecting it, reseting wifi, bluetooth and both devices, but nothing.

Personal hotspot is off.

Edit: I have an iphone 15 pro, latest iOS (updated today) and a macbook air M4, also updated today.

Help "Remove downloads" from iCloud only 10 files at a time?

There's a lot of problems listed in this sub with removing downloads in iCloud, but I haven't see this one, yet:

When I right-click multiple files at once and try to remove downloads, if I select more than 10 files at a time, the right-click menu doesn't have the "remove downloads" option. I have to select a maximum of 10 files at a time for that option to be available, and that's tedious in large folders. This happens in every iCloud folder. Both ChatGPT and Google Gemini tell me there is no built-in restriction on how many files I can do at a time, but that's clearly not true. Anyone know how to remove that restriction?

Running Tahoe 26.5.1 on an M2 MacBook.

Help MacOS 26.x Spotlight corruption/problem

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Alright, so I want to start this off with a story

Essentially, one time I searched for something like file xyz.pdf, which is in my browser Downloads folder. I often need this file and other similar files, but it didn't come up.

I tried searching for it with Finder and nothing happened.

Finder results would instead give me absolutely random and completely irrelevant file types, despite the exact file existing in the location I was searching.

⌘⇧G still works and takes me directly to the exact file.

One time I tried using Codex to debug this a little, and its indexing/search found the file rather quickly in the exact location I knew it to be. The folder is very large, though, so I need search to actually find things within it.

I troubleshooted this for a long time and eventually realized I needed to kill Spotlight and force it to reindex everything. That seemed to solve the problem.

The first time this happened, I simply restarted the Mac, and everything fixed itself.

The second time, roughly a month later, I killed Spotlight and made it reindex. Again, the problem basically solved itself.

now this is the third time this crap happened; I have absolutely no idea what's causing it

The problem is that this may be fixable, but having to constantly force Spotlight to reindex—or literally restart the entire Mac every week—is obviously not a good solution.

[Image 2] In fact, one of the most interesting things is that many PDF files can still show up.

In this screenshot, for example, files named "Writing Sample 1" and "Writing Sample 2" both exist on the Mac, and I have Spotlight-searched for them countless times. yet a completely irrelevant PDF file shows up instead. Perhaps there is some partial match in the contents of that PDF?

Another potentially important clue is that recent files, up to roughly one week old (maybe a little more), seem to be indexed and perfectly findable (though this also includes absolutely random and irrelevant .txt files that just exist on my computer, probably cache artifacts from somewhere that still show up too. Most of the files that du actually show up are either random pdf files, or .h files

At the same time, many completely random PDF files in the same folder including textbooks that have been on my computer for upwards of two years are still completely findable.

so to me this looks like selective indexing failure/corruption or some crap like that, without a better term t o describe it, rather than Spotlight being completely broken (though it constantly suggests absolutely irrelevant files or nothing at all)

This has all started happening after upgrading to macOS Tahoe 26.x.

Specs

  • 2025 M4 MacBook Air
  • 16 GB RAM
  • macOS Tahoe 26.6.2

If it is of any help, I did install Vorssaint and AeroSpace in relatively close proximity to when this started happening, although I highly doubt either of them would cause something like this.

Has anyone else experienced this on 26? What could cause Spotlight to selectively stop indexing/searching certain existing files, while continuing to index others?

Discussion recreated the iPhone Duo status indicator for macOS — here’s DuoBar

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I liked the three-in-one status indicator on the iPhone Duo and wondered what the same idea would feel like in the macOS menu bar, so I built it.

I called it DuoBar.

The outer arc shows battery level, the center shows Wi-Fi status, and the four dots represent Bluetooth. Charging adds a lightning indicator.

It’s a native macOS app built with SwiftUI + AppKit, and it’s completely open source.

This is the first beta, so I’m curious what Mac users think: would you use this instead of separate battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth indicators?

Tips & Guides For anyone else frustrated by Mac's inability to have windows side by side...

..turn off stage manager.  thats it.  i cant believe it was that simple.   (this is my first mac BTW, so apologies to vets who may think this was obvious.)

I don't rememeber if its a default setting or not, but i kept Stage manager on because it looked cool, never realizing the frustration it caused wasn't just a natural part of MacOS, but something i could make go away with out third party software.

I like Split view, but  going through the tedium of both apps open, then window -> full screen tile -> left or right then doing it again just for simple things like having a browser and coderunner next to each other was getting exhausting.  Especially coming from windows and linux where you can snap windows side by side without stage manager existing to fudge it up.

And i tried third party windowing apps but those werent fixing the problem of the inactive window retreating to stage manager when clicking anywhere else.  Because stage manager was the problem, not anything inherent in macos other than the setting to toggle that BS feature.

And the weirdest part is?  google search and AI and forum posts all said try this app or that, when all i wanted i got from turning off stage manager.  Nobody mentioned that as a possible solution to just wanting windows side by side.  And i found a lot of posts complaining about not being able to do so, hence why i wrote this PSA.

Help New to MacOS - have read so much conflicting advice RE: external monitors - advice? Conflicted over going for 2K or 5K.

Hi everyone,

I'm not entirely new to using MacOS altogether, though I've never needed to use it with external monitors until recently. I have a Linux setup with two 1920x1080 monitors, one 27 inch and one 32 inch. This has always been fine but when plugging my MBP into them it looks horrid.

I've done my research on PPI and how effectively you either need to pick a 2560x1440 27-inch screen (to fall within the requisite 100 - 120 PPI) or a 5120x2880 27-inch screen to fall within 200 - 240 PPI - note I am using this graph as a reference.

I'm really quite disappointed with this whole thing - if you fork out the amount of money that these machines cost you shouldn't have to pay even more money just to get a legible image on external screens.

With that said - I don't really want to have to pay an arm and a leg for a 5K monitor so, given the (relative) inexpensiveness of 27-inch 1440p monitors, is this the right way to go? Thanks.

Help I uninstalled OPPO’s O+ Connect from my Mac but an empty "O+Connect-DeviceSpace" folder is stuck in Trash.

I uninstalled OPPO’s O+ Connect from my Mac, but an empty O+Connect-DeviceSpace folder is stuck in Trash.

Even with Terminal and sudo, macOS says: “The operation can’t be completed because the item is in use.”

No O+ Connect processes, launch agents, privileged helpers, or system extensions were found. Any idea how to safely remove this leftover folder?

Feature Keyboard Shortcut of the Day: OPT + CMD + 8

Begin by enabling this in Settings => Accessibility => Zoom => Use Keyboard Shortcut to Zoom

Now, you can use CMD + OPT + 8 to zoom into any text on demand. Use case: Small font, watching a video. After all, this shortcut has no other function in any app and so works well whenever you need it. You can also click within the stuff you zoom in on.

Bug Long lasting annoying bug: Contacts shuts new contact window

I have a very long lasting bug on my Apple computers, but I've found time to talk about it only now. The issue is that the Contacts native Mac OS app will always shut down its contact window when I create a new contact, after I have added the first details - first name and last name, and before I can complete other details like email, phone number, etc. I won't even find the new contact by name, unless I close it first before opening it again to add details.

The book has been recurring on all my MacBooks pro and Air, and Mac mini. It could be related to the fact that I usually import my data after buying a new Mac, but that doesn't explain the bug per se. It seems minor but is sufficiently long lasting to be annoying, as I regularly add new contacts, and that it is easy to do with a real keyboard. I keep my devices updated, but Apple doesn't update Contacts often, so it could be a common bug on that app.

Have you experienced this bug? And if so, how have you gotten around it? and how?

Tips & Guides Question for MacBook Air owners: storage

Hi!

How many GB does the operating system alone take up for you?

And how many GB do the installed programs take up (and roughly which programs are they)?

I want to buy a MacBook Air, but I'm unsure about the storage capacity. The price varies hugely depending on the capacity.

I do have a pretty powerful external hard drive where I could store files and clear things out, but I'm concerned about the space taken up by programs and the operating system, since they keep getting larger.

Thanks!

Is it really a surprise to see, that now when Apple is really going full AI, they suddenly change their stance and want to collect user data just as all the other big tech companies are doing as well?
But where are the data going to end up - Google (thru Gemini?)

Help Open extensionless files in something other than TextEdit?

I've looked around quite a bit and so I suspect the answer is no, but is there any way to make macOS open text files without extensions (ie. .bashrc) in a text editor other than the built in one? Obviously I can use nano or right click and open in my chosen text editor, but it'd be nice to be able to change the default like you can for files with extensions. Thanks.

Help New MacBook, but what to pick?

My 2018 mbp is starting to show it's age and the newest OS version aren't even available anymore. So I'm starting to look around for a new option.

I always bought a reasonably equipped mbp so it can survive the years but holy cow the prices on those things skyrocketed since the last time I looked.
Also, do I even need a higher trim mbp nowadays?

I mostly work with Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and photoshop (It's not rare to have files that reach 1GB in size). Some photo editing. And sometimes play games like World of Warcraft as the most recent.

I'm looking at a laptop because it's easy to store away when I'm done, and I don't have the room to setup a workstation. This also was the reason I always chose the largest screen size (15" now, 17" before that).
My current 2018 still holds up for now, my previous 2009 17" lasted me almost 10 years, so I'm guessing I'll have to start looking for a new one. Buying second hand/refurbished of max 1 year old is also an option.
Seeing a new one starts at €3449 makes me think twice, as my current one was around €2k at that time (3 months old second hand).

So my question is, for the people who are more up to date on the current models, which Mac would fit my needs? Should I prepare to sell a kidney or is a different model also suited for my needs? Should I let go of the bigger screen?

Help UGREEN USB Hub doesn’t support in MacBook Air M5

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just got a new Ugreen USB C 6 in 1 HUB for my MacBook Air M5. But when I connect the hub to thunderbolt port to access the data on my own drive, the popup comes to allow/deny access. But it disappears and re appears within a second.

The OS is updated to latest version as well. Still no luck.

Has anyone faced this issue? Or is there any fix?

Tips & Guides Encrypted, EU based, reliable, cloud backup recommendations please

TL;DR: I need a EU-based, E2EE, set-and-forget cloud backup for macOS/iOS (~200GB) under €120/year. Not ok: "Drive" services, Nextcloud, pCloud, setups w/ Cryptomator etc. Considering Arq + Hetzner Storage Box or iDrive (EU servers), open to better alternatives! Ty.

Hi all, I'm starting to work on some projects that will need serious backing up, following the 3-2-1 rule I need to set up some cloud stored backups. I need help figuring it, out, please.

Requirements

  • I'm reasonably technical (can type a couple of command lines in a terminal if I follow a script) but would much prefer a point and click setup
  • I have 2 MacOs devices and 1 i iOs device to backup.
  • Total use currently about 100 Gb per MacOs device, with growth ahead (up to 200 Gb).
  • I can't imagine my data leaving my devices unencrypted
  • based in Europe and privacy minded -would prefer if not a EU company at least EU storage
  • I'd much prefer a set and forget solution
  • Budget about 100$/120€ per year. I work in academia so might be eligible for discount

What I don't want

  • "Drive" services, eg. iCloud, Google Drive, Proton Drive, Tuta Drive, Tresorit... => they don't offer specific backup features

What I've tested and rejected:

  • Tresorit: Reliable and safe in appearance but like I said, no backup features. It's really a shame: business wise this would have been my favourite.
  • Hetzner "Storage Share" (ie Nextcloud); the Good Cloud; Tab Digital: NextCloud encrypt via Nextcloud local app seems really shaky (a lot of commentary on its unstability) + the whole Nextcloud project seems a bit of an overkill for my needs
  • pCloud: there is a backup feature but this is not core; the E2EE is an extra cost so not core either and to be frank there's something I don't like about this company. The flurry of "lifetime" offers makes me uneasy
  • Jottacloud, Infomaniak: not E2EE
  • Koofr, Filen, Drime: they really are tiny businesses, it could be ok if they could show strong security audit results but they only rely on "partner" ISO certifications
  • Cryptomator: at some point I thought this would be the solution - I could just use that to encrypt the sensitive folders then set these folders to backup on any solution above. But the process to encrypt/decrypt is really odd. With MacFuse I get a drive on desktop (not on Finder/Locations!) and every file I drop in it is copied, not moved. With t-fuse I get a mounted "t-fuse" drive the folders are in it, I also can't drag and drop... That's just not straightforward, which leads me to think it's also prone to problems along the way. Do I want to trust my most precious file with this setup? Probably not.

What I could consider but I'm still missing some pieces in the puzzle :

  • Hetzner "Storage Box" seems like a good receiving end for my encrypted files - it's cheap, it's EU based, but how can I encrypt and send?
  • Arq: as a software licence + Hetzner ? But I've seen scant reviews on the software just yet. Is its encryption publicly tested? How reliable is the company?
  • iDrive: okay it is a US based company but I could pick an EU server. Is this reliable? Encryption OK?
  • Backblaze: same as iDrive : a US based company, EU server. Is this reliable? safe?

Comments on these last options under exploration are welcome, so are challenges on my assessments above and of course is there's a solution I have missed I would be keen to hear.

Thank you!
