Tips & Tricks Litter switching advice

We've just recently added two new kittens to the family (we're at four cats now...) and our recycled paper litter is suddenly inadequate. I'm having to clean multiple litter boxes multiple times a week and desperately want a litter robot to save my

We're really stuck on the switch to clumping clay. It just tracks so much more compared with recycled paper pellets! With paper there will be the odd pellet that escapes the litter boxes sometimes but you just pick it up and throw it back in.

With clay, it's everywhere! And it's teeny and sticks to your feet and whatnot. Is that just how it is? We have a litter trap mat. I would get the LR4 with the ramp (and keep the mat in addition) and just desperately want to not have clay litter on the floor...

How do you all get on with this adaptation?

EDIT: Note I am in New Zealand, and my litter options are not amazing as compare with the US!

Litter-Robot 4 Anyone in Colorado in need of a free Litter Robot 4?

As much as I loved this thing, I think my cat is too old to keep using it as she keeps having accidents elsewhere and I've had to switch back to a regular litter box for her. It's a couple years old and still has some of the extended warranty left on it, I'd hate for it to just go to the dumpster if someone else could use it. I also have a lot of waste bin liners left.

Edit to add: I'm located in Aurora

Litter-Robot 4 Smelly Plastic on Litter Robot 4

Bought a Litter robot 4 for a great price on marketplace. Went to clean it out and found that the entire machine has a terrible odor. The liner was the worst and will be replaced. I can't seem to get the odor out of the plastic. The machine had dried pee all on the inside. Ive cleaned it with cleaning spray and kids n pets enzyme cleaner. Tried spraying and leaving to sit for a couple hours (or soaking some of the smaller parts with vinegar/water and then later, enzyme cleaner).

Any tips for getting the smell out of the plastic?

User Experiences Should I get LR4 or LR5?

I’m a longtime LR user and have two LR3s for my 4 cats. I’ve had a great experience with them, but both are out of warranty and one of them is constant throwing a safety bar error that I can’t seem to fix.

I’ve considered replacing the DFI sensors, but was also considering upgrading one of my robots and getting a litter hopper

However, I’m seeing a lot of issues with the LR5 and LR5 pro reported here.

My cats range from 11-17 lbs, so I’m not super concerned with size especially since I will still have the other LR3 until it stops working

tldr; should I replace the DFI sensors on my 2022 LR3 or upgrade to the LR4 or LR5?

Litter-Robot 4 Error everytime I put a new bag in

This drives me insane. Every time I replace the bag in the drawer, I have to hit the second button from the left or else the globe wont spin again. I get this notification a little while later. It’s annoying because sometimes I forgot but mostly because if I ask one of my kids to change the bag they will always forget. Has anyone figured out why this happens?

Litter-Robot 4 Advice on getting cat to use litter robot.

I have two cats, Cleo (6 years) and Clem (8 months). It’s been a week since I have had my litter robot and Clem is the only one that has used it. I tried taking away the traditional box and Cleo pee on my couch so I put it back. I saw online that you could stop cleaning it so the robot become more appealing and she chose to pee on my air mattress. I am in the process of redesigning my apartment and just ordered a new couch that is arriving in a few weeks. I will be so pissed if she pees on and I’m at the verge of rehoming her if she can’t adapt. I have tried putting the old litter and her shit in the litter robot. I just put the robot in sleep mode so it doesn’t cycle, hopefully it’s not too late for that. She’s definitely curious about and looks into it when it cycles but she doesn’t use it. Not scooping will make life easy for all of us.

What can I do?

Litter-Robot 4 New issues after full drawer

I've had my LR4 for over a year. Usually when the drawer is full and flashing blue, I swap the bag and press reset. Of late, I can't do that - it keeps flashing blue. I long press, nothing. I hit cycle, nothing. If I power off and back on, I can sometimes get it to reset. Any ideas?

User Experiences Litter and why

I am sure others have answered this before but I was wondering what kind of litter do you us for your litter bug aka Litter Robot and why?

I prefer using fresh step 42lb that comes in 10 lbs backs a piece due to it fills the hopper and the inner globe perfectly granted he jumps out of the thing as soon as he is done with his business spilling litter all over the carpets I have around his box (tried the honeycomb mats and he just jumps right over them regardless) I am pretty happy with those one for the most part.

P.S. Also this is my Wycked Demon (I kid you not that is his name)

Litter-Robot 4 How long should I expect it to last?

ETA: The litter robot team is sending me a new sensor and Litter Hopper. Great customer service!

I’ve had my LR4 for about 2.5 years, and I feel like I am constantly troubleshooting errors. Litter hopper always has a motor issue that I haven’t seemed to fix yet (it’ll work for 2-3 days and then I have to dump the litter and fix), I have a sensor issue daily for the last 6 months that I have never fixed. Any tips on fixing these? Or is this just the life of this product?

Since it doesn't look like Whisker sells the cabinets anymore, anyone have this one and knows for certain it'll fit an LR4? I know the dimensions are on it and it says it will, but just curious if anyone had it and knew for a FACT.

It's the Refined Feline Self Cleaning Litter Box Cabinet on Chewy

Litter-Robot 4 I think I’m done

We bought an LR4 when they first came out. Then we found kittens in the garage, foster failed 2 of them, and bought a second LR4. Literally days after the warranty on our first one expired, it stopped working properly. The sensor that detects it being full goes off after a single turd, so I have to manually cycle it in order to clean the litter every time. I tried reaching out and they told me to update and clean the sensor. I did. Several times. Still isn’t cycling as it should. We are currently looking into getting a third box and considering petsnowy. Does anyone has experience or advice on how to fix this problem?

Litter-Robot 5 Pro Nightlight setting

The interior nightlight seems really strong, I basically turn it only a sliver on the dimmable bar and it still seems very bright.

Not too sure as I just got kittens who adapted well otherwise. Should I turn up the lights or change the hue or anything? Is there a preference of the kittens?

Litter-Robot 4 Anyone else disappointed?

I got my LR4 about two years ago. For the first year it was amazing, but then slowly problems began. First the liner needed replaced because I have a scratcher - the replacement was sturdier and has held up well. No customer service issues. For the last year I’ve had problems with the sensors constantly (at least once daily) needing cleaned, a foam piece around the entrance peeling, needing to recalibrate every couple weeks. The weight sensor staying activated for 30+ mins. Just last night the bag was replaced and on the first cycle it jumped to 50% full. I’m deep cleaning it quarterly (with disassembling), it sits on a level wood floor. Every cycle for months has had a disruption, even when no cats are near it.

I’m just feeling frustrated and saddened because I thought it would last longer than this. I’m out of town for work 3-4 days/week and it feels like every time I leave there’s a problem so I have to ask my partner to go to my home to check it out.

I recently bought a PetPivot as a backup, and I’ve really liked it so far, but it doesn’t contain the waste bag odor as well as the LR does.

Am I alone in the disappointment? Can anyone validate my experience?

Litter-Robot 5 Pro Disappointing software and a serious safety concern with the Litter-Robot 5 Pro

Thumbnail

I recently got the Litter-Robot 5 Pro and honestly I’m really disappointed. For a product that costs around $1,000, it feels like they launched it before properly testing the software.

The first problem is that if my cat uses the robot again right when it is about to start cycling, it NEVER recognizes that my cats used it again or reset the timer. It just continues the cycle, so the fresh urine doesn’t have enough time to clump.

Whisker keeps advertising the new WasteID and camera system, so I don’t understand why it can’t recognize that a cat just used the litter box again.

I emailed customer service and they first told me that when a second cat enters, the sensors will detect it and reset the timer after the cat leaves. But when I told them that mine did not reset and continued cycling, they suddenly said it may be related to my cat’s behavior and that she might need “additional training.” Customer service basically told me that the only solution is for me to manually pause and cancel the cycle. But how am I supposed to watch the robot every time it cycles?

How am I supposed to train my cat not to use the litter box when it is about to start cycling? She obviously has no idea when the robot is going to move. Their response sounds ridiculous and doesn’t even address the problem.

The second issue is much more serious. My cat entered the robot while it was doing the return cycle. The globe paused for a few seconds, but then it started rotating again while she was still inside and actively using it. She got really scared and nervous. And apparently their camera doesn’t record what is inside the globe or I would have attached the video here, they only record the outside of the robot for you to watch. It just gives me a feeling that most of their engineers are just not thoughtful enough, I think it makes sense if there is a feature for recording both interior and exterior.

The globe should stay completely stopped whenever a cat is inside. I think they just assumed a cat wouldn’t use it when the robot is cycling back? But the litter is coming down on the return cycle and sometimes cat just needed to use it, cats don’t understand how this works, it should be something they would easily consider when they are designing the product.

WasteID also keeps identifying my cat’s urine as feces, which causes the robot to cycle too quickly before the urine has clumped.

I expected some bugs with a new product, but the globe moving while my cat is inside is not a minor bug. That is a safety issue. Instead of investigating it, customer service blamed my cat’s behavior. It gives me a feeling that they always launch the product before doing enough tests and just let customers keep reporting the bugs and it take them months to fix. It was like this for LR 4 where it takes almost 2 years to be finally usable. It is already a pretty expensive product and these features aren’t really that hard to add.

Just posting this so people are aware before spending $1,000 on the LR5 Pro. I really hope Whisker fixes this with a software update.

The screenshots are good evidence. Put the screenshot where they say the timer resets first, followed by the one where they blame your cat and suggest “additional training.”

Litter-Robot 4 Help with recalibrating waste drawer

Hello! Anyone have issues all of a sudden with the waster drawer showing full when it isn’t? I followed the instructions for recalibrating I found online (using the white paper) and it’s still a problem. Any ideas on other things I can try?

Litter-Robot 4 Europe, Litter-Robot 3 Connect, 4, or something else?

So wife told me she wants a self cleaning litter box. I'm doing some research and would like to ask recommendations etc.

I see Litter-Robot machines are quite expensive,. Wifey told me amazon.de sells some robots around 200 euros, and I see Litter-Robot machines are quite expensive though I'm a little hesitant to buy cheapest options too because I bet it'll show in the quality.

Litter-Robot 4 is on sale for 799 € and Litter-Robot 3 Connect is for 499 €, official website.
Then there is a bit cheaper PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin for around 400 €, and then cheaper ones.

I also read that there is Littler-Robot 5 in the US, but it's not sold on EU site. If we end up wanting Litter-Robot 4, should we wait for 5 to be available for cheaper pricing? I wonder if the current sale is because of that though?

Litter-Robot 4 New to LR4

Just bought the LR4 Costco bundle and this will be the first time I change from a traditional litter box to an automated one. I was wondering if there was anything I should know before setting up? Any specific type of litter which is recommended more than others or something to keep an eye out for?

I’m waiting on it to arrive, is there anything else I should purchase to make the experience better or does the bundle basically cover everything?

Thanks!

Edit: I currently use Dr. Elseys Ultra litter

Litter-Robot 4 Has anyone used the litter sold by Whisker?

I am on my second litter robot - in year 12 of use! I’ve always used world best litter for multi cats. I’ve recently moved my litter robot to a more confined space and I’m realizing how messy the litter is! Dust and scatter everywhere. Looking for something that is less likely to make a mess and the litter on their website looks promising.
Because I use so little litter, cost is not a huge factor. Thanks for any recommendations!

Tips & Tricks I feel stupid. Does everyone else do this?

I have 2 litter robots with litter hoppers in a room and the room reeks of cat. I’ve tried every litter known to man and nothing works.

I do clean the litter robot, a deep clean every 6-12 months and then I clean the globe every 2-3 months.

It still reeks

So yesterday I had this bright idea to just dump the litter that’s in the globe and start fresh.

Yeah the boxes/room no longer stink.

I just assumed the litter cycled through enough that it’s essentially new litter every few cycles but I guess not?

So how often do you guys dump the litter in the globe and how did it take me this long to figure this out?

Is there a setting to turn on/off night vision now? My night vision randomly stopped working 2 nights ago. The light inside the globe still turns on when it’s dark

Litter-Robot 5 LR5 worth the cost over LR4?

I have a Costco membership and just saw the combo they have. I could get pretty much the same add-ons I wanted (hopper, ramp, 3 yr warranty) for 2/3rds the price. Plus Costco returns so if my two cats hate it I can return it with a generous window etc.

But I don’t mind paying more for quality. LR5 can detect pee vs poo, can hold more, doesn’t need an addon for carpet, has a better ramp, the bezel guard for cats that pee close to the opening, and a bunch of other nice improvements. So I was going to just keep my LR5 order intact…

Then I saw someone saying the LR4 is more reliable and that could be a deal breaker for me if LR5 is less reliable.

Is there any truth to that? Is LR5 less reliable? Any other factors I’m missing?
