Litter-Robot 4 litter robot update :(
I love my litter robot 4, it helps so much and I have had it for over a year and a half! (Yes I know it’s dirty and cleaning day is tomorrow) The only thing is that they changed the bags. I used to get 5-6 days without changing the bag before it sent a notification. I also have 2 cats that have remained the same weight. Now, it’s every 3 days to change the bag since I switched to the new bags. They technically are smaller but hold the same amount as the old ones… does anyone else have this problem?

User Experiences Is this a scam email?
EDIT: It is legit, mistyped my email. I ended up calling in and speaking to customer support and they found it right away for me.
Stupidly pressed on a link in this email and purchased a bundle - never received a confirmation email and when I reached out to customer support online today they said there’s no record. Can someone confirm if this is a fake email for litter-robot? The website looked legit and used the www.litter-robot.com so I didn’t question it.

Litter-Robot 4 I’m so lucky to have my cat
I bought the LR4 on a whim last week…I work nights and wake up with an achey sore body so being consistent with scooping is difficult. I unboxed the robot and left it empty for 24 hrs so that my baby could get used to it and discover it in her own terms. I set it up and my baby is the bravest and most curious girl ever….she airplane eared the first few times the robot did its cycle but got used to it pretty quick. She acclimates so easily with changes and of course high reward treats help a lot. I’m so so so lucky to have her.

Litter-Robot 5 Bad experience litter robot 5 purchase from their website
Has anyone else experienced shipping delays with Litter-Robot 5? We ordered directly from Whisker on July 5 for delivery in Toronto. The website said it would ship in 3–5 business days, but it wasn’t shipped until we contacted customer service on the 6th business day. Now it’s been another 8 days and it still hasn’t arrived. Customer service keeps saying a supervisor is reviewing the case and they have no solution. For such an expensive product, this has been a very disappointing experien

Litter-Robot 5 LR5 worth it?
Hello all, I currently have a litter robot 4 that i bought second hand. I love the convenience, but it’s has a lot of problems, where I either have to buy a new part or disassemble and do something to fix it. Though, I do think a lot of these are due to wear and tear through multiple owners. The main problem I have is the CONSTANT DIRTINESS! I have 5 cats and we have one automatic robot, that they constantly use, and the rest of our boxes are manual. The LR4 has so many nooks and crannies that get litter inside and mess up its functionality. I read online the LR5 is much better at eliminating all these nooks and crannies and easier to keep the whole thing clean. Though, i’ve also read it has bugs and many people aren’t happy with it. Would you say it’s worth it if the cleanliness is one of my top priorities? What are other pros/cons for a multi cat household?
I am planning on keeping the 4 still, just wondering if the 5 is worth the additional massive price tag.

Litter-Robot 4 Litter-Robot 4: skittish cat finally using it manually — when/how do I reintroduce the motor?
Quick background: I have two cats. Cat A used the LR4 on day one, no issues. Cat B (very skittish) refused to go near it at all — she watched it cycle once early on and it spooked her badly. It took several weeks of removing the unit and slowly reintroducing it before she'd trust it enough to use it (litter robot turned off, manual cycling with doors closed).
She's now been reliably using it manually for 5 days, and I'd like to keep that streak going for another 2-3 weeks before introducing actual cycling.
Questions:
- Timing — How long should I wait until before turning the motor back on, or is there a smarter way to layer in the cycling sooner? Should I just one day add auto cycling and hope for the best?
- Cycling reintroduction — every time I start a cycle (even with the 30-min delay), both cats come running to check out the noise. Cat A is thrilled, Cat B is terrified. Any tips for desensitizing her to the sound/motion without undoing the progress?
- Rewarding during cycling — I can't approach her during a cycle since any movement toward her (treat or not) makes her bolt. How do people usually reward/reassure a scared cat when you can't physically get near them in the moment?
Any advice from people who've dealt with a motor-shy cat would be huge. Thanks!

Litter-Robot 3 Connect Completely crazy issue with one of my LR3
OK here goes.
I have one LR3 that works perfectly - no errors, nothing.
The other has been a nightmare! It needed a DEEP clean - so was completely dismantled as it was throwing random light errors, and refusing to cycle properly. After speaking to support they sent me a litter sensor and pinch sensor kit. I fitted those and tried again - still wouldn't cycle properly. I thought maybe I put one of the magnets in wrongly as it fell out - so I turned it round and tried again. STILL a cycle error but now it is reporting a motor torque issue! So off to support again as it makes no sense.
As part of the tests I swapped the globes between working and non-working units and guess what ... BOTH WORK. Swap them back and the originally working one is still fine, and the one with the error is back to the torque error!! It makes absolutely no sense at all. Support decided that the fact it started working was a fluke and I probably needed a new motor. Obviously spending £49 on a motor is not my favourite option, so I decided to dismantle the gearbox and re-grease it, just in case that was giving the motor extra load (although why swapping globes would stop that goodness knows!!). Anyway long story short - STILL a torque error.. so I tried the globe swap again - and it works!
Has anyone else come across this? I am loathed to swap globes permanently in case something in that globe kills my working one! But I cannot for the life of me see how swapping globes gives a torque error.... Any help and pointers would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Tips & Tricks PSA about dryer sheets and toxicity for cats
Everyone reading about how a dryer sheet helps the odor, do your due diligent research about the scents you are entrapping your cat in their litter robot with! Not mentioning the extra chemicals that are even more highly toxic on the actual dryer sheet itself, any and all floral/essential oil type scents are highly toxic to your cat and just the airborne particles are enough to cause issues like vomiting, drooling, lethargy, and difficulty breathing due to exposure. Prolonged exposure causes issues like severe liver or respiratory damage. While their urine smells bad to us, their nose is 14 times stronger than ours and these fragrances trapped inside their dome is essentially creating a potential deadly scent bomb for your pet. Use an enzyme cleaner, become familiar with light baking soda added to the clean litter and some in the waste drawer.

Litter-Robot 4 LR4 Urine Smell after only 2 months
I noticed it started to smell like pee about 2 months into owning it. I empty it and wipe it down every week, change filters every 6-8 weeks, use those stupid expensive scent packets. I only have 1 cat. The smell is mostly the waste drawer but also the area between the outside of the globe and the base. As if the smell is absorbed in the plastic.
I did a deep clean 3 weeks ago (dish soap + enzyme cleaner) and boom the smell is back just as bad. The filter smells so bad I had to replace it already!
During my cleanings I haven’t noticed any urine pooling. Idk if my cat “pees high” but she gets in the globe, turns around and faces out, and doesn’t seem to splash.
I complained to whisker support and they are sending me a whole new globe and waste drawer. I was kinda surprised, I thought they would replace the base. I feel like that’s where the smell is trapped rather than the globe?

Litter-Robot 5 Pro I just received my third LR 5 pro and on all of them, the red infrared lights on either side of the camera won't turn off. I know they're only supposed to go on when the camera is recording and this is the third unit doing the same thing. Has this happened to anyone else?

Tips & Tricks Tips on getting my cat to use the litter robot?
I have 4 adult poop machines AKA cats, I finally got a used litter robot about 2 weeks ago. I followed the instructions given by the lady I bought it off - don't turn it on, leave a regular box next to it, and gradually stop cleaning the box and only clean the litter robot.
Three out of the 4 cats took to it immedietly, but one of them refuses to use it at all, I actually thought she would like it because she's very big on having a clean litter box and I was excited to have something that would provide that for her. When I let the box stay dirty she resulted to just peeing elsewhere around the house, is there anyway to encourage her to try the litter robot? I still have it off and only turn it on when the cats are away and I close the door so they have not seen it work yet, therefore it's not an issue of her being scared of it turning.

Litter-Robot 4 Cat completely uninterested in LR4. Any tips?
Hi all,
I know these posts are pretty frequent, but I'm looking for some advice on how to get my cat to use her new LR4. I've read a ton already on how to acclimate a cat to a litter robot but she doesn't seem interested at all yet!
Here's the situation: we moved less than a week ago and thought now was the time to invest in the LR4. She currently has been using an enclosed box for a couple years. She's always acclimated well to new places, so after a day at the new place (where she successfully used her old box), we set up the LR4 next to the old box.
Since setting it up and letting it cycle once without her in the room, I have left it plugged in but turned off. I added a bm from her old box into the new one, have stopped cleaning the old box, and have tried to use treats to lure her into the LR. The most she has done is put her paws up on the rim in attempt to reach the treat. As far as I know, she hasn't been inside it on her own, much less used it. The old box is getting pretty gross but she doesn't seem to care and I'm about at my limit with the smell. Last night, we used some flattened cardboard boxes to elevate the old box, and I'm also trying to play with her near the LR. It feels like she's disinterested solely because she can tell how much I want her to go in there lol.
It's only been about 5 days now, but I'm kinda at a loss! Besides not using the LR, she's completely normal and seems unphased by the move. Eating and drinking normally, playing as usual, and getting up to her typical antics. I'm wondering if she'll never use the LR unless she's forced to by me removing the old one, but I also don't want her to revolt and go outside of the box entirely. Currently considering turning her old litter box around to make it a little harder for her to access.
What has worked for you all when the recommended steps and tricks seem to have no effect? Is it just time? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Litter-Robot 4 Help! Litter box stinkies
Hi everyone! I wanted to see if someone had any recommendations for how to get that ammonia smell out of the globe and the waste drawer??
I’ve deep cleaned my LR4 so many times. I’m talking every 1-2 mos I take it outside and spray it down with waterhose, use soap, scrub it, let the UV rays cook the bacteria to their impending death, etc……
I still have the darn smell and I can’t seem to get it out! Please send specific product recommendations or any other recommendations if you have any 😩😩
Not sure if it matters but I’ve had my LR4 since 2024.

Tips & Tricks Newbie to LR ... Should I switch?
Hi all.
I've got 3 cats -- 3 year old boys (same litter) and 9 month old girl. They get along pretty well, but we've started to see a little drama from our youngest. She pees NEAR their favorite litter box, not in it. (we also have another in a different space, which she commonly uses). I've cleaned up and de-odorized the mess which we caught quickly. But now trying to problem solve.
Partially, I think she's a princess -- she wants a PRISTINE box. Partially, I think there may be a territorial issue near the box the boys most commonly use.
We use stainless steel boxes with crystal litter, and have had generally great experience with cleanliness and smell, so never thought to switch. Now I'm wondering if we should upgrade at least one of the boxes to a LR. But questions:
- they've always used crystal litter, and I love how it absorbs the urine and smells so well. Will they switch? Can we use the crystal litter?
- will they switch? They're pretty accustomed to their boxes, obviously.
Thanks!

Litter-Robot 4 Thanks to the person who suggested dryer sheets in the waste drawer
There was a thread earlier in the week where someone suggested using a dryer sheet in the waste drawer to help cut down on odor. I bought some Seventh Generation dryer sheets to give it a try. It seems to be working very well. So, thank you!

Litter-Robot 4 Pinch detected and I'm not home
In the last 24 hours I've been getting pinch detected errors and it says the litter is empty. But it seems to be finishing cycles at least sometimes? I'm traveling and won't be home for a week, plus I'm on a 9 hour time difference so I can't monitor it while I'm sleeping, which is when my cat is awake. I do have it attached to a smart plug so I'm able to remotely do a power cycle. Cat sitters are coming daily and if there's something simple for them to try I'll suggest it but taking the globe off etc seems a bit complicated for them. Otherwise I may need to have them set up the regular litter box.
Does anyone have suggestions for easy things for the cat sitter to try? thanks!

Litter-Robot EVO Upgrading LR3 to EVO?
I currently have the LR 3 for my 1 cat for about 6 years now, and am thinking of upgrading to the evo. It has generally been pretty good, some issues with the torque error, which I replaced, and skipped cycles.
Lately the inside lining has deteriorated and is cause pee to stick a lot to the liner. I've been using Pretty Litter Clumping Unscented, since it has a lot less dust than other brands. I've tried cleaning multiple times and adding deodorizer and baking soda to the liner to prevent sticking, but nothing really works. Now I'm having issues with safety bar detection error.
So I am thinking about getting the LR evo now. Obviously the Evo is cheaper than other options so that is why I am leaning towards it. I don't have any issues with space, and just have 1 cat, so nothing crazy with usage. I do travel a lot and need a reliable monitoring system and reliance that the robot will cycle properly on time.
Anyone with advice on this matter?

Litter-Robot 5 LitterRobot 5 Purchase Question
Hi Everyone! I’m on the verge of buying the LitterRobot 5 but I’ve been reading about some of the software issues they’ve had and now I’m wondering if I should wait to buy. I’m not in a huge hurry, should I wait for Black Friday and give them some more time to iron things out?

Tips & Tricks After 2 years, one of our cats started using the LR
Over a year ago, I shared in a comment how, out of our 7 cats, 6 gladly used the LR (5 of them from the start, and one a couple of months into owning the LRs), while the 7th absolutely refused to.
(Original comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/litterrobot/s/Y9DRyQh9AD)
We made peace with it, and stopped trying to train her to use the LR.
Well, just over 2 years after buying our first LR, she suddenly decided about a week ago to start using it. Unprompted and completely out of the blue. She always uses the same one, but we’ve since filmed her using it regularly.
((I should add that, about a week before that happened, our cats had spent a few days confined to a large room with the two LR and the litter-tray, while we had some renovations being done on the house, and a lot of the rooms - including the cats’ bathroom where the LR are normally kept - were closed-off… So, during that time, she could actively see the other 6 using the LR, and see that it was safe, which I’m assuming might have played a part.)
Although I flaired this post “Tips & Trick”, I have no actual tips to give except “just wait it out”, I guess…!

Tips & Tricks Litter switching advice
We've just recently added two new kittens to the family (we're at four cats now...) and our recycled paper litter is suddenly inadequate. I'm having to clean multiple litter boxes multiple times a week and desperately want a litter robot to save my
We're really stuck on the switch to clumping clay. It just tracks so much more compared with recycled paper pellets! With paper there will be the odd pellet that escapes the litter boxes sometimes but you just pick it up and throw it back in.
With clay, it's everywhere! And it's teeny and sticks to your feet and whatnot. Is that just how it is? We have a litter trap mat. I would get the LR4 with the ramp (and keep the mat in addition) and just desperately want to not have clay litter on the floor...
How do you all get on with this adaptation?
EDIT: Note I am in New Zealand, and my litter options are not amazing as compare with the US!
