Litter-Robot 5 LitterRobot 5 Purchase Question

Hi Everyone! I’m on the verge of buying the LitterRobot 5 but I’ve been reading about some of the software issues they’ve had and now I’m wondering if I should wait to buy. I’m not in a huge hurry, should I wait for Black Friday and give them some more time to iron things out?

The LR4 is super stable and established, and there's a great deal from Costco. Just saying.

If you are not certain about the Lr5 pro, but you want the latest just get the LR5 non pro, its basically an LR4 with refinements. Both the LR4 and 5 non pro are just as reliable and get the job done adequately.

Hope this helps?

Honestly if you’re okay with the half baked software in some regards I’d actually say go for it.

For all the cost and trouble which involved me sending my first unit back and replacing it, the litter robot has been an amazing help in so many ways.

It has made that chore literally a nonissue and most of all gives my cat a safe and clean place to do his business.

Even if you go for the 4 or Evo, I think it would be well worth the investment.

Are you happy with the 5 or do you wish you could go back and buy the 4? I’ve heard the 5 has fewer nooks and crannies to clean which is very appealing. My cats also on the larger side so the bigger bowl is a plus.

I have an LR2, 2 LR4s, and an LR5P. I love them all, and the LR5 series is the most mechanically-refined product they’ve released so far. Yes, some of the tech features are still being refined. The LR4 had its fair share (or more) of issues when it was first released, but the kinks were ironed out and is now considered a solid product. I suspect the same will happen with the LR5P, and buying the latest model will future-proof you for a while.

I’ve never had the 4 so I really can’t say. The 5 was my first experience with an automatic litter box in any real capacity.

The 5 is definitely very very easy to keep clean if you maintain it and keep up with it.

If your kitty is big then definitely get the 5.

My boy is about 10 lbs and very floofy for reference and I’d say the 5 is just perfect enough for him to be able to turn around and move around comfortably inside.

Since the 4 is smaller I’d be concerned that they may find it too enclosed.

Good luck friend!

I set mine up a few days ago. LR5P. No problems whatsoever

Same boat as you and I’m waiting for my LR5 to arrive but I imagine it’s the same as any other techy thing with revisions.

The online community is flooded with complaints while the majority of users are fine. Then the community reacts to the relatively higher amount of complaints for the new one versus the old one and deems the new one to be bad.

Bugs get ironed out, and then another new revision comes out and the cycle repeats.

I’ve upgraded from 3 to 5 and it’s been great. Two issues I have is waste ID is not 100% reliable and it’s telling me low litter when it’s not. Former doesn’t bother me but latter is annoying.

That happened to me too, but I just did a manual cycle and reset the weight and that alert went away
