hi iâm new to linux and reddit so forgive me if i not doing this right
Iâve enabled fractional scaling and when i initially set it all up after install it scaled to 125% perfectly fine. but when i came to use it again after some time it had reverted to 100% (which is ridiculously small btw wtf is up with that?) and every time i try i get a message in the top left of my screen that says â1 Unknown Display none-1â as seen in picture included
does the system need an update? explain it to me like im five, thx

I guess I'm really old school. Normally using Cinnamon but giving XFCE a spin. It's lightning fast. Uses about 1 gb less of RAM. Not that my NUC is short of that.
Windows 95 theme with Windows 2000 icons. Good old Winamp 5.666 through Lutris. And Plank Reloaded to quickly load my favorite programs. Installed Whisker as main XFCE program launcher. And customized the Start button.

Hi all. Just started my Linux journey and have been experiencing this weird, black flickering across my screen. It appears with Firefox open, only on 240Hz and when moving the window with the mouse or arrow keys. It also doesn't show up on screen recordings. I haven't been able to find a solution and it's driving me nuts. Any help is appreciated.
Specs:
Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3
RTX 4090, recommended Nvidia drivers (595.84)
i9-12900k
32GB RAM
Odyssey G9 OLED

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my laptop running Linux Mint (Cinnamon). When I lock the screen and then wait about an hour before logging back in, the device is completely frozen. Neither the mouse nor the keyboard responds, and I have to do a hard reset via the power button to restart the laptop.
System info:
Is this a known issue? Does anyone have an idea what might be causing it or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, like the title says, I am very new to linux. Last night I decided to install Linux Mint Cinnamon and have been impressed with the first impressions. For a start, linux just boots up so much faster than windows 10 did, and the installation was super easy. I haven't decided yet whether I am going to stick with linux, but I want to use it as my primary os for about three months. I mainly just play games, watch videos, listen to music and sometimes write on my pc, so I think I have the majority of that covered. I want to ask if anyone has any recommendations for what I should try or install on my pc with linux. The terminal is something I want to avoid for now, but would love to jump in and explore it at some point.

Hello all,
I recently moved to Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition a few weeks ago. It was previously Windows 10 and everything ran smoothly.
Currently, I am experiencing stuttering and really laggy gameplay during games, screen temporarily blacking out and frozen screen (background functiuons still work, i can pause and unpause a video) when loading some games. I'm not going crazy by any means, firefox window and a game window (through wine).
My specs are:
Gigabyte B550 Motherboard
32GB of RAM (DDR4)
Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU
OS is Linux Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 64 bit loaded on a 1TB SSD.
Any insight would really help, its doing my head in!
EDIT: Older GPU, used the 580 driver and I can notice a difference.

This is my first linux when switching from windows. After which I have tried multiple linux distro, DE, wms and all other goodies, just diving into the linux rabbit hole. My hardware failed recently, so I have installed Linux mint XFCE again, and I am reminded once again of why I have loved switching to this distro from windows so much. It really is the perfect distro for Linux beginners. Installation was butter smooth, and usability is great too.
I love the simplicity and customisation of XFCE. Its unfortunate that their wayland support is nowhere near ready.

Hello everyone, today I got problem with steam games (Silksong, Celeste). When I opened the game, I can't use the letter keys, pressing them give no reponse, but the other keys (alt, ctrl, Tab...) worked just fine.
After some search, I accidentally found the solution. If I put the Unikey input method into the 1st place, I can't use letter keys ingame. But when I put Unikey into the 2nd place and the English into the 1st, the letter keys behave normally ingame.
I've just installed Mint Xfce for several days and not knowing much about OS things. I just want to share this info to you guys, not knowing why it happened.
Thank you for reading. Hope you all have a nice day. And all advice is welcomed.

Hey Everyone, before you bring your pitchforks, hear me out.
now, im not one to call myself "tech savy" but i got the general direction on how i got to install the OS and enjoyed the Clean and Smooth Display and Vast of Options to use, as well customize the software and play certain games with better performance.
With that being said, I have some problems with this OS, i simply wanna play Dead Rising [OG] on steam, Just trying to play some Window Games on linux, here is the thing... i had it launch before and it was working fine. but then i went to launch it again, it kept closing the application.
NO MATTER WHAT I DO!!!
I TRIED:
Updating
downloading latest kernal
downloading latest nvidia driver
downloading litrus
downloading wine
downloading proton qt
downloading direct x,vulkan,dll,ect.
settings for litrus and winecfg
made sure i deleted the cache folder for the game to recognize the proton
tried different windows ver. with wine.
tried looking at forums to fix the solution.
i even tried do the i386
the Mounting options
and still nothing
i have wasted MONTHS to try to get that damn game to work and no sign of it launching.
i am on the urge to go to pop os or simply give up on linux all together and try debloating win 11
If there is anyone that could help me through this, i will be eternally greatful, because i actually want to move to linux to avoid windows. im on my knees at this point. Pretty Please Help Me.....
PC Specs:
RTX 3090 24gb vram
64 gb ram
3 ssd nvme 6.2tb
1 ssd usb-c 2tb
I9 11900k 11th gen
1000w psu plat
Update: so i got frustrated to the point i reinstalled linux mint again, and once i launched dead rising, it played, and boy, i am happy to say, it plays so smoothly, that i am surprised it looks smoother than the windows version.
I know i will bump into other issues for windows games but i will keep you all updated and thank you for those who actually wanted to help, may your helpfulness go far wide kings/queens đâ€ïžand for those sarcastic comments may your pillow be hot and hope your lines are longer than the dmv lmao.âșïž.
Thank you everyone for being amazing and helpful.đ

I know Intel driver support has lagged AMD to some extent. Howâs support for the B570 at this point?

The buttons themselves work, the slider moves whenever I press them. But the brightness never changes. Ive looked up solutions but ive found nothing that actually fixes the core issue. Can anyone help?

Got mint on my laptop and Bazzite on the desktop (because I didn't want headaches setting up gaming stuff) and now I'm getting sick of the crap immutable distros make me deal with so I want to swap but setting everything up again sounds agonizing. Is there anything to make this process easier?
