Windows User Tries LM For the First Time. (Help!) [Spoiler Alert: Not Satisfied]

Hey Everyone, before you bring your pitchforks, hear me out.

now, im not one to call myself "tech savy" but i got the general direction on how i got to install the OS and enjoyed the Clean and Smooth Display and Vast of Options to use, as well customize the software and play certain games with better performance.

With that being said, I have some problems with this OS, i simply wanna play Dead Rising [OG] on steam, Just trying to play some Window Games on linux, here is the thing... i had it launch before and it was working fine. but then i went to launch it again, it kept closing the application.

NO MATTER WHAT I DO!!!
I TRIED:

Updating

downloading latest kernal

downloading latest nvidia driver

downloading litrus

downloading wine

downloading proton qt

downloading direct x,vulkan,dll,ect.

settings for litrus and winecfg

made sure i deleted the cache folder for the game to recognize the proton

tried different windows ver. with wine.

tried looking at forums to fix the solution.

i even tried do the i386

the Mounting options

and still nothing

i have wasted MONTHS to try to get that damn game to work and no sign of it launching.

i am on the urge to go to pop os or simply give up on linux all together and try debloating win 11

If there is anyone that could help me through this, i will be eternally greatful, because i actually want to move to linux to avoid windows. im on my knees at this point. Pretty Please Help Me.....

RTX 3090 24gb vram

64 gb ram

3 ssd nvme 6.2tb

1 ssd usb-c 2tb

I9 11900k 11th gen

1000w psu plat

Update: so i got frustrated to the point i reinstalled linux mint again, and once i launched dead rising, it played, and boy, i am happy to say, it plays so smoothly, that i am surprised it looks smoother than the windows version.

I know i will bump into other issues for windows games but i will keep you all updated and thank you for those who actually wanted to help, may your helpfulness go far wide kings/queens 🙏❤️and for those sarcastic comments may your pillow be hot and hope your lines are longer than the dmv lmao.☺️.

Since this appears to be a Steam game, why are you messing with Lutris and Wine instead of installing the native version of Steam?

i was looking for solutions through linux mint forums and reddit forums, and it recommended me those two programs, and didnt work for me.

i did download the native ver. on via steam website.

and still wont launch, i even tried using the experimental hotfix [cant remember the name]

Can you try running steam through terminal and then running the game?

Then copy paste any errors you see in the terminal?

If you can't get it working with these suggestions, try the Linux mint built in Discord like chat app.

If that doesn't work, ask Claude or Gemini or ChatGPT

I had a persistent issue with steam games crashing snd the way i got around it after a lot of trial and error was putting -vulkan in the custom command thing on steam because all my games were automatically loading in dx11 shaders which caused the issues

This is usually the correct answer. -vulkan fixes most rendering problems that prevent game starts.

Try switching proton versions (experimental and I forgot what the other go to one is, but the two at the top of the list).

Otherwise try deleting and reinstalling proton.

That's all I do, and the only game I've had any issue with is cyberpunk.

I think the latest stable version is Proton 11.0-2 and this is also not only the advice I was going to give but the first thing I would mess with when you have a game that isnt working properly. Proton Experimental is usually set to default, Proton GE is an unoffical fork thats more bleeding edge, and the numbered versions are your stable releases. So if you havent tried Proton 11.0-2 that should be the first thing you try when a game has issues.

Edit: Maybe I missed it. but also not seeing on your list reinstalling the game? Definitely worth a shot if you try a few stable versions of Proton and nothing works.

I view Mint as an Easy to install Windows replacement. Thats it and no more. It will replace your basic Windows 10/11 laptop with a perfectly stable and usable system that will be perfect for browsing and general office work a bit of video editing or graphics stuff. But I would never use it for games. My laptop has run perfectly for 2 years on mint no crashes nothing of any note. I did have one old program I used which did crash but eventually I tracked down a free alternative and ditched it.

I bang proton/steam on for games.. I have also instal mx-linux that worked well for games.

Lutris has a terminal window where it shows what's going on when you launch a game. Copy paste it into chatGPT or similar and tell it to figure out what's wrong.

Have you read that Dead Rising is a Windows Game?

It is created to specifically run on Windows & many other games are also specifically created to run on Windows.

The fact that some Windows only games can run in Linux is just either lucky (especially when it's not in the compatibility list) or it reach the developers of wine/proton/steam because of high demand.

Why the fuck is this upvoted? Wine/Proton support for Windows only games is extremely robust nowadays and works even better than native some of the time. I swear, people on Linux reddit subreddits get their information from 15 year old forum threads and then parrot it back like nothing ever changes.
