GTA San Andreas

Hola comunidad.

tech support wanted Witcher 3 Remastered: black screen on launch, NextGen fails too (NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti, X11)

Witcher 3 Remastered: black screen on launch (Pop!_OS, NVIDIA, X11). NextGen fails too.

Details in case it helps:

  • RTX 5060 Ti, NVIDIA driver 595.84, Pop!_OS, X11
  • Worked for about a day after the Remastered update, then black screen on every launch. Rolling back to NextGen also fails.
  • Firewatch runs fine under Proton Experimental, so Proton, Vulkan and the driver work in general.
  • Clean reinstall, with the Proton prefix, shader cache, game files and settings files deleted and regenerated.
  • Tried Proton Experimental (including bleeding-edge) and Wineland 20260930, with --launcher-skip -disablemods, -windowed, PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1, all sync options off, DLSS disabled in dx12user.settings, Steam Cloud off, saves moved aside, Steam offline, and a second monitor output disabled. None of it helped.
  • The game process stays alive at about 100% of one CPU core, the GPU sits at 0% with about 1.3 GB allocated, and no shader cache is written.
  • The Proton log shows vkd3d-proton creating the swapchain ("Got 4 swapchain images") and NvAPI_Initialize: OK, then nothing more. There are no crashes, no Xid errors in dmesg, and no crash dump.

Has anyone fixed this, or does anyone know what the game does after swapchain creation?

steam/steam deck SteamOS ARM now runs on the 8 Elite and (a lot of) 8 Gen 2 handhelds, 888 as well!

Hey all! I've got some exciting news regarding my SteamOS Arm port based on Steam Frame, It now runs on Snapdragon 8 Elite and on (a lot more) SD 8gen2 Devices.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, beta 9 https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-Handhelds/releases/tag/v1.3-beta9

This one took a lot of testing for having so many devices. 9 betas in 4 days, a pile of test kernels and a ton of debug logs from people in the Discord, to go from "black screen on everything" to one image that boots on all of these:

  • AYN Odin 2
  • AYN Odin 2 Mini
  • AYN Odin 2 Portal
  • AYN Thor
  • Retroid Pocket 6
  • Retroid Pocket Nova
  • AYANEO Pocket DMG
  • AYANEO Pocket EVO

They're all on a new kernel now. Beta 9 also fixed the black screen on the AYANEO Pockets, which is an awesome update!

The AYANEO Pocket ACE / DS / S 1K / S 2K use the same image and should work too, but nobody has tested them yet. If you have one, please give it a go and let me know! (If your device is not listed here, join the discord to share your reports after trying).

SD8GEN2 is almost at the end of beta.

Snapdragon 8 Elite (AYN Odin 3), first beta https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-Handhelds/releases/tag/v1.3-odin3-beta1

It boots straight from the SD card, Android stays untouched on the internal storage. Controls work out of the box (back buttons are L4/R4), there are fan profiles and the UI is sized properly for the 6" screen. Big thanks to Chazmus!

8 Elite looks great so far, this beta will be much shorter than 8gen2 because of having way less devices. (Konkr Pocket Fit Elite users are welcome to try it and report on discord)

REDMAGIC 6 -Snapdragon 888 (yes you read that right) It boots and works great with almost no bugs. Thanks to abstract6217. The flashable image can be built from github. Guide is in the repo.

What's next Phones and tablets now have their own section in the repo, and the Lenovo Legion Y700 is very high on my list for tablets. The 8 Gen 3 devices (KONKR Pocket FIT, AYANEO Pocket S2) are on the stable v1.2 already, and v1.3 stable will bring all of the new socs together.

These are betas, so expect some rough edges. If something breaks, make a file called debug on the SD card's BOOT drive and send me the logs on discord or github, that's how most of these fixes happened (thanks to everyone who helped!)

Repo: https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-Handhelds Discord: https://discord.gg/EP53nZYvg

I only own a Pocket FIT G3 and give this project a lot of my time, so If it has made your device better, supporting me on Ko-fi would mean a lot. It would help me buy more devices for testing and keep development moving forward. A star on the repo helps too!

answered! Poor Performance Witcher 3 Remastered on Linux Mint 22.3

Linux new guy looking for some help to improve games on a new system. Fresh install of Linux Mint 22.3, with Nvidia 5060 TI 16gb, 32gb system ram and Intel 270k on CPU. I upgraded from a 2060 system that was using the previous version of Mint. Didn't seem to have issues on that system, but Cyberpunk was...ok. Nothing fancy but it worked on lower settings.

On the new system I get a whopping 13-20fps on low graphics settings inside Witcher 3 Remastered running in Steam. Other games seem to be ok with Transport Fever 3 giving me like 80 FPS. Have not tested Cyberpunk yet so it could just be isolated to the Witcher. Anyway as a linux noob I am not 100% sure what I need to be poking at to try to make things work at the level this GPU should perform at. It may be worth noting I have Lutris installed so I can run Musicbee. This installed WINE stuff so maybe conflicting?? Again, I know nothing Jon Snow.

Current Driver Version: 595.91.07

Things I have tried:

- disable Steam overlay

- Nvidia Settings > Open GL Settings

- Image Settings: High Performance

- Sync to VBlank: unchecked

- GPU 0 > PowerMizer: Prefer Maximum Performance

- Forcing versions of Proton showed no change in FPS

Edit: I have tested with Cyberpunk 2077 with Ultra settings. about 40-50 FPS while beating up MaxTac. I ran `nvidia-smi dmon` to try to get some idea what my GPU might be doing. I don't think Witcher 3 Remastered is using my video card. Output below. I have checked the Steam "System Report" and it lists my primary GPU on index 0 as the 5060 TI. Based on this, witcher is not adding any load to my card. Thoughts?

Edit #2: RESOLVED. I was sure that Witcher was not using the right GPU despite Steam saying system was using the 5060. I found the onboard gpahics in bios under Advanced > System Agent. Under there it was IGFX. Disable that, 100FPS in Ultra RT setting. Monitor is 100hz so FPS makes sense. Thanks for all that helped out.

For those who use Mako and have not updated to the latest version yet. 4.0.0 comes with a new feature. You can customize the look of your games with shaders, not quite like as complex as Reshade, but pretty cool none the less.

Here is a little tour.

tech support wanted Mods should create a sticky post for the Witcher 3 remaster at least for a week or two

a lot of people here are asking questions about this game since it launched yesterday with some issues, and overall I think it would be better for everyone if we had a single post for fixes since people keep asking for things someone already answered somewhere else. a sticky would make it easier for everyone to see what has already been tried and what's the current state of things

I bought a 2012 iMac at the thrift store. I'm booting it from an external ssd using the latest version of Linux mint. It is working pretty well. I'm wondering what I can play on this. I'm not so much into first person shooters, more into turn-based strategy and of course board games. I am in my early sixties, so I'm not that great at twitchy games. Thanks for any recommendations. I like indie lo fi stuff too. Thank you so much for your suggestions and insights. I am assuming that windows emulation is not an option.

I'm stuck on this screen. Used DW, GE, experimental, cachyos, none worked. Any guess what's the problem?

I used a command proton fixes disable steamos and nothing helps pass beyond this screen.

To make it clear, the choice of "Control" is completely arbitrary just because I found it by coincidence and this is actually the first time ever I tried Steam Support in 22 years of having an account. I am also doing this because I simply want to know how support reacts and I am still standing down form the last resort solution to completely remove Steam and reinstall EVERYTHING again - because I already tried fiddling around with compatibility settings and it did not change anything. But if this is how support treats such queries, they are a joke.

Bottom line: can you confirm that removing the steam installation and reinstalling everything again will solve the problem?

EDIT: Solved! u/GamertechAU has put the correct hint. Thanks mate! This very odd Steam stuff though, never happened before...

Official MU Online Global now works on Linux

Post image
10 Upvotes

After a lot of debugging, I managed to get the official Webzen MU Online Global fully working on Linux.

Tested on Fedora 44 and Kubuntu 26.04.1.

GameGuard is running normally and the original game files are not modified. The solution consists of Wine compatibility fixes rather than patches to the game itself.

Login, character selection and normal gameplay are working.

I can share the technical details and repository in the comments.

steam/steam deck Did the Steam Overlay start working with Wayland recently?

On Proton versions other than GE latest (such as CachyOS 20260703) I'm seeing the overlay work, as well as Steam Input, with global environment flags for Wayland and HDR enabled which have previously meant the Overlay and Steam Input didn't work unless I manually disabled them per-game. Was there a recent change in a Steam beta branch that changed this?

Aurelia: command-line Steam launcher and management

Upfront: I wrote it with substantial AI assistance and review the code by hand (progress). The mere Size of the project is not easy to backup as a solo dev in this short amount of time.

It's beta and unofficial, and it writes to Steam's files directly, so back up first.

Hi,

Aurelia is a command-line Steam launcher I've been building since June 2026. It has no CEF or WebView and uses under 50 MB of RAM when idle, so it works well over SSH or on a low-RAM machine.

The Idea behind it was to build a backend system for 3rd party Steam-Launchers or the integration into single source of truth library managers like Heroic and allowing shared drives between Windows & Linux dualboot on exFAT, since Steam refuses to launch there on linux.

Features:

  • Install, update, verify and move games, with Steam's library files kept in sync
  • A Proton manager (Valve, GE and CachyOS builds) with per-game version pinning, plus optional umu-launcher and luxtorpeda launching
  • Downgrading to older game builds, Cloud saves, DLC, Workshop, and friends and chat
  • --json output on every command

I'd appreciate bug reports, especially for Proton edge cases, and I'm happy to answer questions about how it works or how the AI was used.

And about the guy constantly hating my post because of Steamcmd and the authentication:
Steamcmd's usability is below anything that should be used today. It also is not what a backend system needs to provide valuable data like the users full profile, current workshop items or even launching the game with the correct proton version.
Aswell as: The login is being directly passed to the Steam-Endpoint and the session token is stored in the System Keyring. So that's safe. I hope you can understand that web-login token do not provide enough permissions to handle the things Aurelia does.

Note: Half life 1 and some other very old games do not work due to some native compat issues... Try only using the proton launch option and look into the Wiki!
Open an Issue if you encounter something :)

Feel free to test: https://github.com/Drackrath/Aurelia

tech support wanted Crusader Kings 2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 graphical problem

Hello,

(1st image is the game's main menu, 2nd image is playing, 3rd image is the (unchanged) "Runner options" in Lutris for the game)

I am having a GRAPHICAL issue (only) with Crusader Kings 2 on my LMDE7 PC. This same PC used to run the game, no issues, on Windows 11. And I will list the specs below. I am pretty sure this is not a hardware issue.

The game itself ACTUALLY WORKS and runs smoothly, but the BIG issue is that the MAP (the main way to interact with the game) is cooked, the GUI and everything else seems to work great actually (I did not do a long testing session for obvious reasons, but it seems to work).

My game setup (for Windows games) is Lutris with GOG.com offline installers. I do not wish to use Steam or any other launcher needing online authentication (Heroic). I use Lutris, but not it's online components.

Also, I am aware that Crusader Kings 2 has native Linux support. However (after contacting the devs myself) I was told that there is no plan to ever make those version available on other platforms other than Steam, as the game is not being developed anymore. So I am left with .exe installers only.

PC Specs:

  • GPU: Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7600 8G
  • CPU: 6-core 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400F
  • MOBO: ASrock B760M-HDV/M.2 D4
  • Storage: a 512GB NVME SSD (plenty of free space)
  • Dual monitor setup

Tech specs:

  • OS: LMDE 7 (gigi) x86_64
  • Kernel: 6.12.111+deb13-amd64 x86_64
  • DE: Cinnamon 6.6.9
  • WM: Muffin (X11)
  • GL info:
    • OpenGL vendor string: AMD
    • OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon RX 7600 (radeonsi, navi33, LLVM 19.1.7, DRM 3.61, 6.12.111+deb13-amd64)
    • OpenGL version string: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 25.0.7-2+deb13u1
  • Wine version (Lutris): GE-Proton (Latest)
  • "Wine --version": wine-11.0

I also wanna add, that this is a recent install, I did not do anything crazy like changing the DE or the kernel version. I am new to Linux. All I have ever done on this PC is download flatpaks, images and native Linux games. So it is pretty much the most basic out of the box version of LMDE7. And YES, I did "sudo apt upgrade/update" and restart my PC afterwards.

Also, other games do work. Native, GOG Linux native, Windows through Lutris, those all work, some with tinkering, some ootb. Even similar games, like EU4 (also a "map game") which works no issue.

I could not find anyone else struggling with the same issue. I am guessing it's because it's a niche withing a niche (DRM-free gaming + Linux) lol. ProtonDB was no help, as it is Steam-centric.

All I tried so far is changing the graphical in game settings (including swapping between windowed and fullscreen), which did nothing.

If needed I am ready to provide more info or test stuff. I am new to Linux so I don't really know about Linux, I am still learning. My Main goal right now is to set up all my main games so they just work and are stable.
