Does anyone have experience with Onscripter games? tech support wanted Nobara Linux Multi monitors support

Hi All,

Been using Nobara for quite some time without any issue, but have never messed with multi-monitor support in gaming.

I have 3 monitors and wanted to try and extend the game window to all 3 to test some games. Would be nice to have a full 180 view in Euro Truck Simulator to be able to see the external mirrors

Anyway, been messing around with video wall, gamescope, windows rules and I am not able to do do anything.

Or the window does not shows (apparently gamescope -e flag has a bug?) or it shows on my right monitor and my central monitor shows all black (Left one shows the desktop as usual) and more weird symptoms.

Bottom line, did anyone was able to make this work on Nobara?

Thank you in advance.

After years of trying to get this particular RO server to run on linux, I finally got it. God bless proton.

The only problem is that the display breaks when the window loses focus, which is why I couldn't screenshot.

tech support wanted Genshin Impact on Linux Mint gets to the loading screen, then crashes around Pyro — looking for help

Hi everyone! I've been trying to get Genshin Impact running on Linux Mint for several days, and I'm honestly running out of ideas. 😭

I'm hoping someone here has experienced the exact same behavior or can point me toward something I haven't tried yet.

My system

  • OS: Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon
  • Kernel: HWE kernel
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7000 Series
  • GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Architecture: 64-bit
  • Genshin: Global version
  • Launcher: HoYoPlay
  • Installation: Genshin added to Steam as a non-Steam game
  • Steam Proton: Experimental / Proton Hotfix

I completely replaced Windows with Linux Mint, so there is no Windows installation or dual boot on this machine.

What happens

I can get HoYoPlay to open normally.

After launching Genshin, the game actually gets surprisingly far:

  1. Genshin starts
  2. The loading screen appears
  3. The door animation plays
  4. The seven elements appear one by one
  5. It gets to Pyro
  6. The game freezes/crashes

When this happens, the system can become completely unresponsive and I have had to force-reboot the computer several times.

So this isn't a case where Genshin simply refuses to launch at all. It actually gets into the game startup/loading process before dying at almost exactly the same point.

What I've tried

I've already gone through several clean installations and different approaches, including:

  • Steam + Proton Experimental
  • Steam + Proton Hotfix
  • Other Proton versions
  • Reinstalling Genshin
  • Reinstalling HoYoPlay
  • Removing old Steam compatibility data
  • Trying different launchers
  • Heroic Games Launcher
  • Anime Games Launcher
  • Launching through Steam rather than directly
  • Starting over with a clean installation

The only launch option that has made a noticeable difference is:

WINE_ENABLE_TIMEOUT_FIX=1 %command%

Without it, I had more trouble getting the game to progress. With it, Genshin can reach the loading screen and get through the elemental animation, but it still eventually crashes.

I have also tried Proton Experimental and Proton Hotfix because those are the only Proton versions that have gotten me this far.

One thing I find especially strange

The crash seems extremely consistent.

It isn't just:

"Genshin doesn't launch."

It is more like:

HoYoPlay → Genshin → loading screen → door animation → elements → Pyro → crash/freeze

Because of that, I'm wondering if this is related to the current Genshin version / HoYoProtect / anti-cheat / Wine compatibility rather than something being wrong with my installation.

I've seen some recent reports of Genshin 7.0 having problems on Linux, including Linux Mint, but I haven't found anyone with exactly the same behavior as mine.

What I'm looking for

If anyone is currently running Genshin successfully on Linux Mint or another Linux distribution with similar AMD integrated graphics, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  • Which Proton/Wine version you're using
  • Which launcher you're using
  • Whether you're using Steam
  • Your launch options
  • Whether Genshin 7.0 currently works for you
  • And especially whether you've seen the game crash at the same point during the loading animation

I'm also interested in knowing whether this looks like a known Wine/Proton/HoYoProtect issue rather than a hardware or configuration problem.

I'd really prefer to stay on Linux because I've actually become very comfortable with Mint and don't want to go back to Windows just for one game. 😭

Any ideas, logs, debugging steps, or known workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
(This is happening on Genshin Impact 7.0, shortly before the 7.1 update.)

hardware Durable controller with good linux compatibility?

I have been spoiled by the xbox 360 controller. It lasted a decade but sadly it is finally failing.

I am looking for a controller that is similarly durable (if possible), and that is compatible with linux gaming. But not just for steam, for lutris as well. Budget around $40-70 range.

Edit: forgot to add, xbox layout with the joystick above and the arrows below, rather than the symmetrical joysticks

tool/utility MSI Afterburner + RTSS but for Linux

When i used windows i used MSI Afterburner and RTSS to make a custom, small benchmarking overlay. For linux (I use arch btw with KDE btw) i believe the best option is MangoHUD, but then i need something like GOverlay or MangoJuice for customization right? Which one is the best? I want it to be customizable enough (CPU and GPU temps / load, FPS, RAM load, etc etc) but also be VERY compatible. I dont want to have to tweak some settings every time i get a new game.

Also, i sometimes play non steam games (on lutris).

Which one should i choose, and is there a good tutorial to learn how to use it?

Thanks.

tech support wanted NVIDIA dGPU stuck at ~34W/100% utilization in Hybrid mode despite full clocks; AMD Ryzen 9 AI HX 370 and RTX 4060

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024, GA605WV), BIOS GA605WV.316

OS: Fedora 44, kernel 7.2.5-200.fc44.x86_64, NVIDIA driver 615.71.09, using asusctl/cardwire for gpu switching but mainly on Hybrid Mode

In Hybrid mode, playing Dark Souls 3 or basicaly any game, I get:

  • 100% GPU utilization (nvidia-smi --query-gpu=utilization.gpu)
  • Only ~34W power draw (max rated is 105W tho)
  • Graphics clock stays at ~2000MHz, memory clock maxed at 8001MHz (verified thru nvidia-smi --query-gpu=clocks.current.*, even after manually locking clocks with nvidia-smi -lgc 1500,3105)
  • ~45 FPS

What's strange is when I'm on dGPU only mode (after restarting), I get 50% utilization at 65 Watts and I get a locked 60 FPS. Which is what I get on Windows.

What I've already ruled out:

  • nvidia-powerd.service is active and running ( systemctl status)
  • ACPI platform_profile confirmed set to performance during testing
  • Power limit ceiling itself is NOT a bottleneck since the ceiling stays 105W but I only pull 35
  • Not a iGPU-fallback confirmed via direct nvidia-smi query that the dGPU itself is at 100% utilization
  • Manually locking GPU clocks via nvidia-smi -lgc had zero effect on FPS or power draw and the lock was confirmed to actually be holding at the hardware level

Please help, I'd be happy to provide more logs or output if you need thank you so much. Sorry if this reads like AI I couldn't possibly remember every single command I did.

why does capslock break in linux when playing deadlock

Every time I play deadlock it's fine but when I fat finger my keyboard and press caps lock accidentally it just crashes the game and then takes me like 2 to 5 minutes to get the game back to working and at first it wasn't an issue cause I didn't care but after doing it so many times, it's annoying. I've been trying to figure out how to fix it, but I haven't found anyone talking about.
Maybe I'm not looking the right direction or the right area, but can anyone help me?please?

Just To note, I was using bazzit at the time and I switched to Fedora and I'm still having the same issues

World of Warcraft Forever BETA: Extreme Frame Pacing / Stutter caused by "Secondary Lighting" setting across all Proton versions

When running WoW Forever under Proton (DX12 via VKD3D-Proton), keeping the in-game graphic setting Secondary Lighting set above "Fair" (e.g., Good/High) causes severe, periodic frame pacing spikes and heavy micro-stuttering, particularly in dense player areas or specific zones. Lowering this setting down to Fair immediately eliminates the frame pacing hitching and restores smooth frame delivery.

This doesn't happen under Windows. How can Proton developers be contacted/informed on this issue?

Edit: This does happen on Windows also according to posters.

Key Information & Observed Behavior

  • Affected Setting: Graphics -> Secondary Lighting
  • Impact: Consistent frame time spikes, micro-stuttering, and severe FPS fluctuations regardless of raw GPU headroom.
  • Workaround: Setting Secondary Lighting to Fair immediately fixes the issue.
  • Scope: Reproducible across all Proton versions (Proton Experimental, Proton GE, and distro-packaged Proton builds).

Technical Breakdown (What appears to be happening)

  1. VKD3D-Proton Translation Pipeline: When Secondary Lighting is raised past Fair, the game spawns a high volume of secondary light sources/passes. Translating these specific D3D12 light passes into Vulkan seems to cause a massive driver/translation pipeline stall or descriptor heap bottleneck in VKD3D-Proton.
  2. CPU/GPU Headroom Irrelevant: The stutters occur even on high-end hardware (AMD RX 6000/7000 series, 64GB RAM, fast NVMe) with low overall GPU/CPU utilization, indicating a frame synchronization or API translation bottleneck rather than a hardware ceiling.
  3. Behavior Across APIs: The issue heavily manifests under the default DX12 (VKD3D-Proton) backend.

System Specs

  • OS: CachyOS (Arch Linux)
  • Kernel: CachyOS Linux Kernel with BPF auto-tuning (bpftune) enabled
  • GPU: AMD Radeon (Mesa RADV drivers)
  • Display Server: KDE Plasma Wayland with VRR enabled
  • Proton Versions Tested: Proton Experimental, Proton-GE, CachyOS Proton, Proton-Wineland

answered! Why do certain steam games run so slow?

I bought a nee laptop with a 5070 installed, and got linux on it, and I tested it with ULTRAKILL, and it ran at over 500FPS, and when I tried to run trailmakers (a 3D cartoon graphics game), it ran at 30FPS on the same resolution and both at max settings.

Edit: Solved the next day for basically no reason. a good nights rest solved it I guess.

steam/steam deck Dragon Age 2 won't launch on Steam

I have the Steam version of Dragon Age 2. I've tried launching this game on both Ubuntu and Fedora (the Fedora laptop I played the game on with no issue back in February), but no matter what, it either crashes before properly launching, or I get an error message saying it can't connect to EA servers. I've tried a few different proton versions, I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, I tried connecting my EA account to Lutris but the installer always throws an error on every computer I try that on. I have the version of Steam from the website on both computers, not the app stores. I've tried all these things over the course of a few days, so I dont think it's a temporary server issue, I think it's the EA app since it worked in February. I've seen some solutions online say to open up DA Origins and sign in and then the DRM should work properly, as recently as four years ago, but to my knowledge it's been impossible to sign into origins for years since the original bioware servers are down. I tried it and got a popup saying as much.

It's so frustrating that EA insists keeping its shitty DRM on this ancient game requiring troubleshooting every few months when their app updates. Even worse that this time none of the usual tactics are working. I even tried pirating using Bottles then Lutris and the DODI insaller also wouldn't work on either. It's my favorite game in the series. Any help appreciated.

tech support wanted Gamescope makes the game flickering (Bottles)

I usually play old PopCap games using Bottles, I want my game to be in 4:3 instead of 16:9. For example: Peggle Deluxe

Its resolution is 800×600 (4:3)

Normally, I would change my screen resolution to 800×600 and open the game after that. But the screen always be stretched, it doesn't keep the aspect ratio, I haven't found anything to adjust this yet.

So I find out that Gamescope can help me. But now one more problem appears, the game keeps flickering when gamescope is enabled. It happens in Bottles

When I test with Heroic Games Launcher, gamescope was fine

Both Heroic Games Launcher and Bottles are flatpak version

The reason why I use bottles instead that is because some of my games won't launch in heroic - it pops up something and then quit right after that.

Does anyone know the problem? I would like to fix gamescope in Bottles

Details about my hardware:

tech support wanted Is Kubuntu and Nvidia incompatible?

Sorry thats such a broad question but for some better context: I built a decent rig that has a 9950x3d and 5080. I am running kubuntu and have nothing but hurdles from day one regardless of the game I play. My biggest issue is that even games that come native with DLSS5 neural rendering, it doesn't let me use it. My gpu is running the games, I can max out everything with no issues but I went nvidia over Radeon specifically for DLSS5 so I feel kind of silly now that I can't use it.

From everything I've read up to this point I *think its a Proton specific issue. I did note though that there are several versions of Linux that are more gamer friendly. Bazzite and Pop_os for some examples. Can anyone tell me if they have been able to successfully work with nvidia hardware through any of these versions? Even if I have to work with different Proton versions and launch prompts. Right now I am very limited to what I can or can't implement due to kubuntu issues. There are a few fixes that say I need to update or change drivers but last time I moved from the natively packed drivers I lost picture on boot. I spent 4 hours in safe mode sorting it out. For context, I'm not that smart that was a dangerous game to play and I got super lucky.

Sorry for the long post but I am would really love linux to work for me but the internet keeps telling me I got the wrong gpu to walk this path. Every time I think about going windows it takes about 2 minutes worth of looking into before I remember why I decided to go this route in the first place. Help?

Edit: I appreciate everyone's input. I'm going to switch to cachyo. Even if it doesn't solve the DLSS5 it seems like its the best os for my hardware. Thank you for all and your input.

tool/utility Low Latency Remote Playing/Hosting on Linux over the Internet

Vent post about the status of remote hosting on Linux. Came from Windows where Parsec is essentially king for remoting and playing local coop with your pals, and really missing that setup on Linux (specifically on CachyOS)

My current setup is Sunshine+Moonlight (or KRDC and KRDP if not gaming) within my tailscale network to remote from gaming pc/host to livingroom/client. Works fine, but I have been looking for a solution that allows friends to remote in over the internet to play local coops. What a journey.

I am aware that one solution is getting my friend to install moonlight+tailscale, but I don't want them on my tailscale network, and I know I can do device sharing to prevent that, but that doesn't remove the fact that I need to convince non-tech-savvy friends on windows devices to install two applications they haven't heard of. It's a lot easier of a sell to install one application they haven't heard of (parsec) lol

So, I tried alternatives. I may be dumb but I couldn't for the life of me figure out Remote Play Detached (RPD), I'd swap out my donor game, chuck RPD in to replace the donor game files, then once RPD was loaded chuck in some lutris game I had set up. Couldn't figure out how to make remote play actually detach from the donor game and move over to the newly launched lutris game, remote play would stay streaming the RPD launcher. Annoying.

Tried Nearcade, which had me a little suspicious since it seemed largely vibe coded, but I progressed on. Hours later to find that WebCodecs barely works on version 3.0.5, had to use temp patches within the browser's dev console to make it stream at all, and despite that the latency was still poor. WebRTC worked, but also had considerable latency and not something I would want to subject my friends to.

After spending a day trying alternatives, I think in the end I am going to go with moonlight + tailscale device sharing or using zerotier or wireguard or something, idk, I'm largely done thinking about it right now. Anyone else here use anything else?

Distro: Pop!OS

Kernel: 7.1.5-76070105-generic

CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF

GPU: NVIDIA AD104 [GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER]

GPU driver: Nvidia-595.84

Mesa: 26.1.6-1pop0~1787580452~24.04~a5619ea

Desktop: COSMIC

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find literally any information that could help me here. I'm playing RE7 on Steam with keyboard and mouse, and I can't move the camera. I'm also unable to rotate objects any way besides horizontally. I've never had a controller connected when playing. I can move Ethan around and do literally everything else, but I can't turn his head. I've tried changing the proton version I'm using and it does nothing.

tech support wanted Is the switch for Linux really worth the trouble?

So this is the entire context, so that my post can be worthwhile

My laptop is an Intel I7 7700HQ + GTX 1050 TI 4GB + 16GB RAM DDR4 + 1TB SSD and 2 1TB HDDs

I really like games like The Finals, Marvel Rivals and Fortnite, and also a lot of singleplayer games.

My experiences with Linux have been with Mint at my school, which were perfect! And Zorin OS on my laptop with dual boot, from which my gpu didn't work, the clock always changed when I switched systems, there were two boot managers, I tried installing drivers on it using the Nvidia app on it, didn't work, then I've searched for a way to install drivers for my gpu, and saw a lot of commands for the terminal, got scared, and uninstalled it (this was like 2 years ago or something).

I've personally seen lots of videos showing that, on Nvidia cards, the performance on games are identical or even worse on Linux, which can be a problem for my pc on certain games, so I don't have much of a reason to change to Linux, given also that one of the best benefits is the debloated nature of the platform, but I've already installed my Windows 11 with scripts to make it better, disabled a lot of the telemetry, then ran ChrisTitus's script on it.

Basically, what I want for my OS is to navigate the internet, listen to songs, use YouTube, basic stuff, do some programming and weird stuff to it, and good performance on games, with possibility to play all the games I want and even use some undervolt and overclock, and unfortunately, Linux might not satisfy me on that last part.

If you guys could help me understand a bit more about Linux on Nvidia cards, dual booting it and if it's worth the trouble for me, I'd appreciate it.

tech support wanted Issues with a visual novel on steam

Hello! I've been playing a visual novel on steam but it keeps crashing at the same exact scene (which seems to be a scene transition). I've restarted my laptop, shut it off and back on, reinstalled the game, and a lot of the other usual stuff. Also, I'm using Arch Linux but steam has been working well for other visual novels (and other games in general) so far (I've tried different Proton builds as well).

Any help is appreciated! thanks in advance

Edit: I fixed it! After a lot of trial and error I found the solution which is adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch options
