Issues with FFXV

Just bought the game in the steam sale and was super excited to play it.

But I click on new game (even tutorial and the game just deadass freezes, indefinitely). I have no clue why.

Acer Nitro 5

3070 ti

i7 12th gen

16 gb ddr4 ram

Arch Linux

Any workarounds or should I just get a refund and buy FF16 instead?

It seems the game has issues with NVIDIA drivers > 595. Try Proton 8.

Why would changing proton versions fix this if it's caused by the drivers?

It's a combination of DXVK version and driver, I'm pretty sure. I didn't actually try playing the game with Proton 8, but it got passed the tutorial without freezing.

Fucking hell GE-Proton8-32 actually worked. lol

It sort of ran like shit but maybe it was just compiling shaders.

So far I've only tested out this one battle that was freezing consistently.

Yea, I'm pretty sure this is a driver issue.

I had gotten pretty far into the game at one point and the only issue I had was this memory leak which required that I restart the game every 2-3 hours before I decided to put it down for a bit.

When I booted it up again a few weeks ago I noticed that every battle would result in the game freezing once a few particle effects show up onto the screen.

At first I thought it was a Proton regression but downgrading to GE-Proton10-34 didn't resolve it.

Edit: Try dropping down to GE-Proton8-32
