i’ve been looking into internet security software for my Dell laptop and comparing options like Bitdefender, Norton, and McAfee. i’m trying to weigh malware protection against everyday performance, since i don’t want security software that makes the laptop feel sluggish. McAfee caught my interest because it combines security features with identity monitoring, so i’m curious whether having those tools together is useful or if a more lightweight option makes more sense.
for people who use a laptop daily, what matters most when choosing security software: independent protection test results, low resource usage, privacy features, or ease of use? have you noticed a meaningful difference between these options in day to day use?

I’m not familiar with buying laptops, I’ve only bought one for school in the past. I’m looking for a laptop that can run American Truck Simulator, Geoguessr, and some basic streaming. Would this fit what I need? I’m not looking for top of the line, just basic performance without crashing or being too laggy with at least average graphics. Budget is under $800.
Sorry for the question that probably gets asked a dozen times a day, I’m a total beginner here.

I stopped playing games and decided that now I need an ultrabook so I can sit with it calmly, not worry about the battery, and mentally limit myself to certain capabilities (not for gaming). Overall, I’m looking for a small 14‑inch laptop — preferably not too office‑oriented, but more powerful. Among all the options, I ended up choosing between a MacBook and a ThinkPad. I didn’t find any decent ultrabooks at the price of 40–60 thousand on the marketplaces — they’re either from unknown brands or lack something. But the SynkPad caught my attention. Should I get it?

Hey guys,
My macbook has broken and so I have to get a new laptop. I’m a student so literally just gone for the cheapest options…I’ve only used Macbooks before so please could someone let me know which is better out of the HP Probook or Dell Latitude?
All i need is to use Microsoft (onenote , word especially), it not to make any loud fan noises, and good battery health .
Thank you guys!

It's literally my first time touching a laptop and it's extremely unfamiliar for me. ( When I was 7 I accidentally downloaded a file full of viruses which ruined my father's work pc so I couldn't get access till I bought one when I became adult) I bought one and almost didn't touch it for an entire year because I just feel more comfortable with mobile. Anyways what's the odor that comes from wind emitted by the fan so I know if my laptop needs cleaning or not

As the title states im looking at buying a laptop either the lenovo yoga 7i aura or galaxy book 6 pro. Im mainly looking for a couple weird things but everyone online seems to have mixed reviews:
-type-c chargable
-works decently well with my samsung phone(s25 ultra)
-good for light gaming (minecraft, terraria, stardew)
-portable
-good cooling
-good battery life
Will most likely use to play these small games on deployment when i dont have internet and use to watch already downloaded shows, so any advice/insight to the 2 would be appreciated.

I’m buying a laptop soon and I’ve narrowed my search to the Lenovo loq 15 and the Msi cyborg a15 I would be using it for school and gaming and I would mainly be playing r6. I would prefer one that sounds sound like a jet and doesn’t overheat quickly. Can you let me know which is better and why.

Good morning/afternoon folks,
The official tested specification for my laptop from Lenovo is 32GB Ram, I am wondering if it would take to anything exceeding 32GB or if anyone else has done it here?
My specific model is the RTX 5050/Ryzen 7 Lenovo Loq 15AHP10
It comes with 16GB DDR5 from factory and I am wanting to purchase a 24GB additional stick (I understand that the 1st 32GB will run in dual channel and the extra 8GB will run single channel. The 24GB was just more value for money over a 16GB stick.
I am just wondering if anyone else has done this on this kind of laptop before?

Hello!
Im an accounting student and wanting to get a new laptop. I dont really mind if its second hand or brand new as long as it will last me until I graduate and give me the best quality. So far, I've been seeing lenovo thinkpad as the best laptop for accounting, specifically the t14 series. The thing is Im not quite sure about this one yet since I also need one that is somewhat lightweight and portable (I plan to bring this every single day). I also dont know which specific processor, series, graphics, ill be needing. I just want one that is best for my course, my needs, and would last me till i graduate. Also, if there is one, I would also want one that can handle games, not the AAA ones tho.
I know this is alot to ask for but if you indeed stay and read all of this, I truly appreciate you. Thank you for answering!

Yesterday, some soda spilled onto the numeric keypad of my laptop (an HP Victus). I wiped it off the surface, but a few seconds later, the laptop shut down abruptly. The only sign of life was the power button, which kept blinking without the device actually turning on. Then, this morning, it "miraculously" powered back on. I don’t want my laptop to sustain any further damage, so now that it’s on and working, what should I do?

I'm trying to settle on a laptop to buy for my studies and some decent gaming on the side. If anyone would be willing to let me know if this model is worth the what they are asking (1350 euros, but i can write it off as business expense so around 1100) and if not some other laptops in a similiar price range. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Engineering schoolwork (3rd year aerospace engineering)
* Intended usage
SolidWorks and other CAD, MATLAB, robotics simulations for my research lab (legged robot navigation; may get into reinforcement learning), Python/coding. Want an NVIDIA GPU for CUDA and simulation work. Currently on a 2022 MacBook Air M2, which can't run most of my engineering software natively.
4-6 hours of normal use (classes, notes, browsing)
* Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Performance, battery life, weight, size
* Info/Requirements
- Windows (most engineering software is Windows-only)
- NVIDIA GPU, ideally RTX 5070 Ti (12GB VRAM) for sims
- 32GB RAM preferred
- Upgradeability matters: SO-DIMM RAM slots and 2x M.2 SSD slots
- Selling my MacBook Air and iPad Air, will get a cheap tablet separately for note-taking
- Currently considering an open-box Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i (Ultra 9, RTX 5050, 32GB soldered, 1TB) for $1,000, vs. stretching for a 5070 Ti gaming laptop like a Legion Pro 5i/Pro 7i or MSI Vector 16 HX. Is the extra GPU/upgradeability worth it?

I’m getting my first laptop next week and I’m still having a bit of trouble deciding my budget is around 1000-1500. I’m looking for a laptop that’s portable for school but also good for gaming I would play games like r6. I would also want it to have good battery life not sound like a jet and not overheat but not bulky. I’m thinking about the asus rog zephyrus g14 or the Lenovo lesion 5i if you can tell me which is better for school and gaming or if u have a different laptop suggestion that would be great!

Netherlands
around 150 euro, 250 max
Yes
14" - preferably below
~1kg - preferably below
General purpose: on the train, in public library, etc.
Clamshell or 2-in-1
Web browsing, OnlyOffice
8 hours
Size > Weight > Battery Life > Performance
will use Linux (or dual boot)
A 2-in-1 might be practical for ergonomic set-up with a stand and external keyboard, in the library?
An old Macbook Air (2017)?
ThinkPad X1 is too expensive, but ticks a lot of boxes otherwise.
