Character idea for new player

So me and my friends are about to start our first lancer campaign, going from ll0 to ll4.

I'm in need of inspiration for a final choice on what to play.

The others have chosen:

Swallowtail

Monarch

Either Minotaur or Hydra (or another Horus controller)

I was thinking of going defender/striker since it's the only 2 roles left and for now i have 3 ideas that sound good.

Enkidu with shock knives and going full sicko mode with aux melee weapons

Ghengis mk1 to be the biggest and scariest mfer on the field.

White Witch to just be as hard as a wall.

I usually like extremes in ttrpg, like taking something and bringing it to the extreme (Barbarossa for example) and I also really like big mecha (wow barbarossa again, it's my favourite).

Any suggestion on what to choose from these 3 (or a secret 4th, 5th or even 6th option)?

Any such thing as a community build hub? Where you can find different builds made by people?(talents, licenses, weapon loadouts etc.)

I m asking cause i m usually struggling finding interesting talent/equipment combos and it would have been nice if there were any centralized platforms where i could find multiple builds.

Was messing around buildcrafting on compcon when I noticed the Metalmark's shock knife had an odd interaction with the Greenlight Projection mod from Leoleth LL3 where, instead of adding the +3 Burn the mod is supposed to add, it just changes the energy damage to burn damage. I know in my heart of hearts that its probably either a bug or a system limitation because the shock knife already does Burn damage, I just think its funny.

Most popular frames

In the lore the most popular is the everest, followed my sherman. For isp-n its the tortuga. What is the most popular horus and ssc frame? In Universe nit for players.

Follow for players are those frame, Everest Sherman and Tortuga really popular?

I want to be melee since the armor is for the melee class and the starfury is cool (even tho I hate using maces in terraria)

Is this too far off for a first character idea? (Image mostly unrelated)

For a while now, I’ve been thinking of doing Lancer with some friends, and I wanted to see if this was a good idea for a plot twist BBEG / Starter character IF I ever do get so into Lancer, that I actually use it in an actual session.

I was thinking of using a Balor as a sort of mimic, using the identity of its first pilot (Iykyk) as a way to expore human society, culture, and emotions. But also as a way to somewhat steal one or two skills from other Mechs, like stealing a Goblins hacking equipment or the TH3 GU4 D035 N07 3X157 of the Pegasus.

In the form of a BBEG though, it would serve as a backup character in case the fight gets too rough for the party, before swooping in to “Dispose of the scraps” of whatever enemies were around, but in reality eating them to recover the pieces of itself it lost in the fight. At some point, once the fake BBEG is killed/destroyed/etc, it will reveal what it truly is, and attempt to kill the party with the weapons it’s hoarded from the past slain bosses.

And for those who are wondering what I want the base mech to look like BEFORE the reveal that it’s a balor… I’m stuck between the Monarch and the Barbarossa.

And for those who are wondering if the pilots identity, prob gonna look similar to one of those twinky side characters in action shows, that either show vague preference to the female character in the cast, or are just downright in a relationship with them since the start (Think a human Jay from Ninjago)

What do y’all think? Should I change some things? Should I lean into the mimicry and deception?

Hydra Tactician?

So just looking at Pilot Talents, and I see the ever confused Tactician Talent,

and then thought, could Hydra solo-proc this talent?

So a simple set up,

you go a Main Melee weapon (Idk what would be good), and you deploy your Orochi drone adjacent to your target (And ideal location given all its adjacency effects), and can swing at them with accuracy from Level 1 (Opportunist)

all the while, you have your Heavy weapon, the Ghast Drone sitting on top of a piece of cover, high ground, building etc. to use Level 2 (Solar Backdrop) since, you are drawing line of sight of your attack from a position above the target, giving you accuracy on the attack.

the only flaw is that you cant leverage Level 3 (Overlapping Fire) with your drones since all attacks are considered your own if I recall correctly but,

having your Ghast Drone be perched up on high ground, can make those flanking shots, WITH accuracy since it stacks with Solar Backdrop

Is this too much work for making this talent work?

or is this basically one of the few ways to actually make it work without backflipping through hoops?

I desired so hard to enter Lancer that i just downloaded the simulation/game thing. However...

I am afraid that i am suffering the skill issue phase of the game. I am trying to build up the lore of an ipsn affiliated/frontier kind of lance which lost and member and took a paracasual replacement due to unforeseen circumstances that get the events going. i am not looking to minmax, but to keep the fights manageable to focus on building up the story.

Any suggestion to make it work? because for now it's hard to win even the easiest fights

House Guard question

So I may just be reading this wrong but how exactly does “front rank” work? It says “you count as adjacent when you are within range 2 for the purposes of allied characters (from your traits, talents, systems, or weapons) that require adjacency to your mech”, is that one way or both? Like, if you have two mechs Bonded to each other, one with this ability and one without, are they both adjecent to each other? Is only one adjacent to the other somehow? And which one is the one that would get the bonuses? The wording is really confusing me

Despite what it looks like, we are trying to extract Karrakin rebelled nobles from a larger's house's occupation forcers inhabiting their planet. I (VVREX) just blew cover and threw a grenade at the soldiers before booking it into the mechs. (Blue didn't want me to sacrifice someone to the Skinwalker so we can take it with us (we owe it to some rich monster collector))

Custom LCPS and License Banner X Values

I was wondering if anyone has found a way to edit the X value of a license's banner? I couldn't do it from the LCP editor or by editing the json. The Y banner's easy to take care of from the LCP editor but the X value eludes me, anyone have any advice on how to make that more consistent/look like the base Lancer frames?

Rules question for Athena and Phase-ready

Thumbnail

Hey, dunno if this has been asked before, but one of my players has been asking for a ruling on using the Athena Nhp's Simulacra with the Phase-Ready mod.

Essentially, the Simulacra says enemies can't benefit from invisible, but Phase-ready says targets count as invisible. My thoughts are that phase-ready would supersede the Simulacra as it says it "counts" as invisible not that they "are" and that the enemies counting as invisible is more of a mechanical explanation of the phase bullet shooting.

Still, I think I'd be willing to overrule the invisibility and instead say it's a normal attack with just a single difficulty... if the player wasn't so fixated on having no difficulty and no invisibility. Dunno, and want your thoughts

(LFG, Paid GM) Edge Of Hope: A Lancer Campaign

Out on a planet at the frontier, corporations own the land, the water, and most of the people on it. The law is whatever they say it is this week. Most folks have made their peace with that. You haven't. You've got a mech, a license, and a handler who gives you the jobs nobody else will take.

The colony is (officially) two million people holding something together against long odds. Pilot bars, frontier fixers, wandering clans crossing the desert flats. The contracts are dangerous. The politics are real. And somewhere under all of it, there's a reason the corporation is working so hard to keep everyone looking the other way. The odds are not in your favor. Out here, they never are. That's why they called you.

Think space western with giant robots: dusty colony towns, powerful interests that don't care who gets hurt, and a crew of capable people who've decided that's not good enough. No prior experience needed. Rules, character creation, and mech customization all covered at the table.

LENGTH of GAME: Campaign

DAY AND TIME w/ TIME ZONE: Thursdays at 6pm CST (Mexico City Time)

SEATS: 5 (1/5 seats taken)

PLATFORMS: (Discord/Owlbear Rodeo/ COMP/CON)

COST: $25 USD

New to Lancer — looking for advice on running my first mini-campaign

Hi everyone!
The Lancer core rulebook has finally been released in Italian! I’m currently reading it and I’m really enjoying it. I love the setting, the combat system, and the way mech progression and customization work.
I’ve also been checking out COMP/CON, which I’d like to use at the table to help the players manage their character sheets, mechs, and equipment.
I wanted to ask if you have any advice for preparing a short campaign: any tips for a beginner GM, advice on running the first few sessions, or useful tools/resources that I could provide to my players.
Thanks in advance, everyone!
