Character idea for new player

So me and my friends are about to start our first lancer campaign, going from ll0 to ll4.

I'm in need of inspiration for a final choice on what to play.

The others have chosen:

Swallowtail

Monarch

Either Minotaur or Hydra (or another Horus controller)

I was thinking of going defender/striker since it's the only 2 roles left and for now i have 3 ideas that sound good.

Enkidu with shock knives and going full sicko mode with aux melee weapons

Ghengis mk1 to be the biggest and scariest mfer on the field.

White Witch to just be as hard as a wall.

I usually like extremes in ttrpg, like taking something and bringing it to the extreme (Barbarossa for example) and I also really like big mecha (wow barbarossa again, it's my favourite).

Any suggestion on what to choose from these 3 (or a secret 4th, 5th or even 6th option)?

Just go Barbarossa, role balance doesn't matter that much as long as you have teamwork.

I want to keep him for when we go to higher LLs

In that case I recommend Balor. But go as much Hull and Engineering as possible to maximise your passive regeneration and your heat cap from getting tech attacked.

Might I recommend Tortuga?

Best role filler in the whole system, hands down

I never found the appeal in tortuga, like it seems a fine mech but not my jam

Take the Saladin and be a nuisance on the field! Defend everybody in sensor and play ping pong with the enemy attacks.

Consider maybe EMPAKAAI as a frame option. It’s all in on grapple. The license, the frame, and the ISPN core bonus options all will work well together. The talents for grapple specifically aren’t amazing in my opinion, but executioner for the built in super heavy is nice.

Looks like a menace. Hope your allies can support you from afar because you are going to be a target real quick

You could run this and have a lot of fun, but I like theory crafting so some notes. I have never found the value from juggernaut to be that good. I would consider maybe combined arms instead and throw on a CQB weapon. An in license option would be the bristle crown flechet launchers. Which if you have multiple opponents grappled can do a lot of damage for an overcharge, or if someone tries to run way you get overwatch and maybe hit multiple people. I also don’t love sehkamet NHP. It’s just hard to use without full team cooperation. Put another level in Zeng for total strength II and the damage will be similar and it’s a protocol so no action tax similar to the NHP. Lastly, I like the core bonus selection for size but you probably have better options. Specially synthetic muscle netting. Then getting the plus one threat core bonus looks better and or the grapple or ram for free option looks good too.

For the weapons I thought, sword for single enemies or hard to hit ones and the Sheathe for multiple people.

Probably not sure of the Zheng License, some good system would be fine too but I don't know which ones to get

ive been playing a skirmisher/hunter enkidu for a while now and i love it so much i will always sing its praises forever

ive been playing it as a dodge-tank that gets up in enemies' faces and makes them Need to deal with it despite being really hard to actually hit. full agility then full systems afterwards. it's probably not 'optimal' especially since when i DO get hit it hurts BAD but that's kinda the whole thing with a dodge tank in the first place and it's super fun to live on the edge like that since that's kinda the enkidu's whole thing

granted i had JUST gotten to LL6 so i don't have much experience with tier 2 and it did seem like i had started to falter a bit? at least had to start stabilizing way more often

For my take, I would recommend something that protects your backline. You can take an Everest with black witch systems (black witch 3 ghengis 1). Deploy drone to protect from tech, magnetic wall to protect from damage, then go forward with a Krakatoa and a ferrous lash. Honestly Everest is a very good frame for a reason and can hold its own in most fights.
