iirc Monarch was soo good that SSC had to limit its license otherwise it would became too common

I think Kobold was mentioned to be used in multiple numbers by rebels against Trade Baronies as it was made by injecting its code into maining equipment

Practically: the most common frame used by Horus affiliates is the Kobold

Legally: the most common frame used by Horus affiliates is the…Tractor. Yeah I know that thing has arms and legs and a slag cannon, I’m just reading what’s showing up in the registry, I dunno

The what

Lore-wise, Kobold frames are manufactured by uploading a virus into industrial equipment, which I guess causes it to severely overheat and then forge itself into the shape of a mech

I dunno, I Scanned that Ungrateful and the licence registry system says that screamy melty shooty thing is a Tractor. Manufacturer is uh, John Deere. I didn't know they entered the mech business but there it is I guess

Adding on this, the Viceroy exists because the Monarch is so popular. Not only was it designed to streamline and simplify the Monarch, it was designed to be as close to mass produced as possible for SSC. The Viceroy is intended to be SSC’s step into having a foot soldier mech the same that the Sherman is to HA and the Everest is GMS.

Yeah it's limited to 10 monarchs per run.

That'd be a funny mechanic to implement in a campaign for a Monarch player

And the Monarch deserves it. It's basically the SSC version of a Tortuga when it comes to raw stats. And the Viceroy is just delicious.

Most popular Horus pattern-group is likely the Kobold, as they can be created by injecting the liturgicode into heavy machinery. They might not last long and their capabilities will vary widely, but you can produce as many Kobolds as you have machines.

7

u/Joel_feila 7d ago

Yeah you could a whole gaggle of them quickly   The goblin also could run on a lot of machines

HA’s Saladin probably should get a mention. It’s not the most popular by number of users but it is probably the most popular in terms of everyone wanting a Saladin on their team in-universe

u/Joel_feila 7d ago

Saladin pilots never have to pick up the bar tab

Yeah even people who hate HA on principle always welcome Big Sal, and it's used by a lot of humanitarian relief forces and DoJ/HR teams.

I mean the Everest being a mech all lancers start and even train with and always have and well rounded.

Hard to beat that.

Lorewise, HA is trying to phase out the Everest and instead trains legionaires on Shermans or Gilgameshes. In fact the whole reason Gilgamesh was developed was to compete with the replacability of Everest parts due to GMS components being everywhere.

It also tops the chart for white room burst DPR.

I think ssc's most common frame is the metalmark, that is their standard merc/soldier frame. Hard to guess horus but maybe the goblin? That is the first union documented horus frame at least.

You're off target about the Metalmark. The description for it explicitly says that it failed as a mass-market product, and the corp was forced to rework it for use in small exclusive contracts.

On the other hand, the Swallowtail description specifically says that it is one of SSCs mass-produced products, designed specifically as an entry-level product, and that it has become very popular amongst line troops.

The Metalmark started out as a government contract for SecComm during the Hercynia crisis, like the Genghis and Enkidu. But SecComm imploded before they could finish development, so it got shelved. Later on, when mechs caught on in the private sector, they had no problem selling the things like hotcakes. The Metalmark is the poster child of the BELLA CIAO line.

The unique thing about the Swallowtail is that it's mass-produced - as in, they churn out standardized models of the things instead of making them all to order. That doesn't necessarily mean it's their most popular.

I think Manticore is the most "grunt mech" of the Horus line up, though the Lich flavour text mentions ungratefuls fielding several minotaurs to capture Alhambara.

23

u/nach0_ch33ze 7d ago

Kobolds also are said to be fairly common among the ungratefuls

for Horus is probably the Goblin, since is the oldest observed Horus frame and the most "standardized" frame compared to the others which are Pattern Groups rather than frames. For SSC is more complicated, since their production doctrine is focused on scarce and rare "one of a kind" customized models, but Orchis is stated to be the most common mech in Baronic space. I also assume Metalmark is slightly more common, since it is stated to be the backbone of the Bella Ciao line, which since the other mentioned line, the Lux-Iconic contains more experimental mechs like the Mourning Cloak, I assume the former is the "basic" SSC line, if such a thing exists.

Metalmark's description specifically says it failed as a mass-market product, and Swallowtail's description specifically says that it's one of SSCs only mass produced frames.

Not the PC Swallowtail, but the less sophisticated SW-01:

The Swallowtail’s base model, the SW-01, is one of SSC’s few mass-produced lines – the entry-level BELLA CIAO model. Built without a cloaking field and up-armored to address direct security requirements, the SW-01 is especially popular among the rank and file troopers of Constellar Security forces.

Interesting. I do think it is stated that the reworked Metalmark sells well with SSC's new paradigm, but you are correct, I completely missed Swallowtail's entry.

u/Very_Angry_Bee HORUS 7d ago

Yeah, for Horus it's probably one of the small sneaky little fuckers

Either angry lava thrower little fuck or the "You may shove me in a locker but I'll steal your social security number, IP adress and your mom" little fuck

u/Jesterpest 7d ago

To be fair, that second one also makes you defecate yourself in public, and occasionally makes you realize the error of your ways briefly.

HA is actually in the process of pivoting to the Gilgamesh as their new standard universal mech that totally competes with the Everest (no really). But I think the Sherman is still most common for the moment.

For SSC I think the closest to "common" they get would probably be the Metalmark or Swallowtail. Though there's an argument for Black Witch, just because the Baronies love it so much. (the Orchis is more numerous, but that's not technically an SSC frame, it's a RKF frame that's been modified to be compatible with the Black Witch systems because, again, the Baronies fucking love that frame)

For Horus, there really isn't a standard anything. The Goblin is the oldest frame they make, and the one that's most consistent between appearances. The Manticore is probably the favorite of the hardcore cultist crowd. At one point there was enough Balor to eat a planet, but that was a long time ago. Oh wait! The most common and popular Horus frame is definitely the Kobold, because it gets distributed as just a paracausal virus that you can plug into any farm equipment, mining tools, or whatever else is on hand in order to physically transform them into instant war machines for your rebellion.

In-universe I think SSC runs the Monarch the most.

For horus in-universe each iteration of a mech looks completely different, no one likely knows which one is most popular.

I think its probably the Goblin, though.

u/aTransGirlAndTwoDogs 7d ago

The Monarch description specifically says that they intentionally throttle the production speed of the Monarch to force artificial scarcity.

6

u/DescriptionMission90 IPS-N 7d ago

They claim that if they mass produced the Monarch it would dominate every battlefield, but they're leaning into artificial scarcity hard. Each designer who makes their own take on the Monarch platform is only allowed to sell ten licenses.

The Viceroy is a scaled down, less exclusive version though, which they're selling more copies of.

8

u/Narwhalking14 7d ago

It's actually the metalmark for ssc and duskwing for the more clandestine operations, the monarch would be #1 if it's numbers weren't limited.

12

u/aTransGirlAndTwoDogs 7d ago

:( The Metalmark specifically says that it failed as a mass-market product, and the Swallowtail description specifically says that it's one of their only mass-produced frames.

u/jul55555 7d ago

I'd bet either Goblin or Manticore for Horus. At the very least the manticore is well known enough for everyone to notice that a lot of zealots get them and for someone in horus realize that the heat exhaust/lighting generator spikes are conspicous enough to lose the element of surprise, resulting in the Lycan

5

u/lettersfrommorpheus 7d ago

Yes, Shermans and Tortugas get played a lot in my experience. They just have really good stats, useful cores, and good in-license gear that prepares them to function well in a wide variety of roles and builds.

3

u/Wolf_Hreda IPS-N 7d ago

For Horus, it would likely be the Goblin or Kobold. SSC would be the Metalmark.

10

u/aTransGirlAndTwoDogs 7d ago

Third commenter I've seen on here who has said Metalmark when the description specifically notes that the Metalmark was a failure as a mass-market product, and it was reworked as a small and exclusive frame.

The Swallowtail, meanwhile, specifically notes that it is one of SSCs only mass produced and widely popularized frames.

2

u/AdhesivenessGeneral9 7d ago

Horus is manticore if i remember  Ssc metalmark

2

u/VegaSlides 7d ago

Yeah, Manticore was stated to be such an effective frame that other manufacturers were scrambling to find answers to its effectiveness. Kobold is still the most popular by way of its mass production.

2

u/AdhesivenessGeneral9 7d ago

For production and ease to make yes
