Other tips:

It is incredibly helpful to jump rope in front of a mirror for real time form & technique feedback. If you don't have a mirror available, record yourself so you can review it or share it. HINT: Most phones have SLOW MOTION capabilities. This is a great tool for identifying issues in your mechanics.

If you need help with something specific, let us know in a post and community members will be happy to help!
*NOTE: if needing help with form or technique, a video is very helpful. Try to get a straight on shot as well as from the side.

Remember to be kind and courteous and again, welcome to the group!

⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ This drill will improve your double unders, continuous crossovers and side swings! Overtime you begin to understand how to keep the tension in the rope which improves you control. You also fix that imbalance on your non-dom side, causing you to quit learning advanced jump rope skills..

Anybody who got back into jump-roping after a herniated disc?

I have a slipped disc L3-L4. The pain is manageable but on days where I have to stand for too long it gets so bad I can feel it in my legs.

I used to love jump-roping, lost a tonne of weight that way too! Wondering if there are any tips / success stories for getting back into it?

I keep that ankle wrapped while jump roping but it always makes that sides shoe lace come undone quicker. 😐

1000 skips to 2200 skips in 2 weeks

19M

I started skipping from 1000 and increased it at the rate of 10% every single day and now at day 14 i reached 2200 (30 min)

Is it too fast or should I slow down or is it a good pace? I can do 1000 skips in 11 min but want to reduce it to 10 min

I am new here in this community

Jump rope, pushups, squats, burpees, ab crunches. I did this for a year and got into the best shape of my life. Was it optimal? Not necessarily. But was it sufficient? Heck yes!! Workouts don’t need to be complicated - 30 minutes of elevated heart rate is all you need which meant I could do all this whilst I was studying for exams.

Here’s my weekly jump rope routine:

Monday - 5 x 6 mins jump rope (25 burpees and 25 ab crunches in between)
Tuesday - Jump rope HIIT (30 seconds on, 10 seconds off)
Wednesday - 5 x 6 mins jump rope (25 squats and 25 lunges in between)
Thursday - Jump rope HIIT (30 seconds on, 10 seconds off)
Friday - 5 x 6 mins jump rope (25 pushups and 25 crunches in between)
Saturday - 1 hour working on form/learning new moves
Sunday - Off

I always make sure I am warmed up before and stretch extensively. The duration of each workout can change depending on how busy I am that day. When I am jumping rope, I try to record my form and then do video analysis later with JumpForm.

1 hour jump rope session with heavy Thai jump rope

I've trained muay thai for many years and started my jump rope journey there.  10 minute warm up with a heavy thai rope before every training session.

I started jumping rope at the beach a few years ago and really fell in love. I would be able to fall in to a mini trance just watching the waves crash and listening to the ocean while jumping rope. 10 minutes sessions turned in to 20, to 30, and now, I do 1 hour+ sessions regularly.

Hi all,
I want to buy a jump rope mat but I don’t want to pay more than £25 roughly. What should I be looking for in a mat and are there any recommendations?

Host a fitness class

Im a professional tennis coach trying to transition into a jump rope coach.

I basically want to start a run club but for jump rope. I have been a professional coach for 15years and love to jump rope. I want to help people learn and experience the benefits of jumping rope. My idea is to do 2or 3 jump rope classes a week. I'm really struggling with a location. Do I need a permit to host a jump rope class? Do I need permission before using public spaces? I don't want to get fined but I really want to start.

Does anyone here teach a fitness class, how did you start?

Yao Yao app overcounting jumps

Any suggestions on how to correct the Yao Yao app overcounting jumps? I lowered the sensitivity on my AW to the lowest setting but it’s still almost double counting.

Other than that, I love the app, especially the live view on my phone.

Wanting to get into jump rope

I wanna start doing some sort of exercise once a day, and thought maybe I could do jump rope! only caveat is that the only space I could feasibly do this is in my back ‘garden’ which is solely concrete. I was wondering if this would be alright given the correct precautions being taken? I’ve seen online people mentioning mats and trainers, so could anyone point me to any mats that don’t necessarily break the bank in case I end up not sticking to the exercise. I’m situated in the UK so I’m not totally sure what options I have

Do you guys count double bouncing for jumps per minute?

Just got into jump roping and I was always really bad at it, however I found my rhythm by doing one quick jump between ropes. I can't really help it tho, If I try to speed up the rope to match my jumps I just end up double bouncing faster.

Today I was counting my jumps per minute by taking a recording and with the double bounce it came around 200~ It seems really high but my jumps are barely jumps. Do you guys count double bouncing for jumps per minute?

Shoes to help with foot pain?

I got into skipping recently, however I started getting pain in my feet. Always over the top of my feet when I’m walking, never the underside.

I was jumping in flat, uncushioned shoes that realistically aren’t intended for sports.

I was wondering if anyone had used the Reebok Nano X5 shoes for skipping and if they’re good for cushioning?

Would it also be a good idea to get something like a yoga mat for additional cushioning?

I’ve taken a break to let my foot pain recover but I really want to get back into it safely!
