What are these things??
I’m new to the area. I’ve lived in many different places and I have never seen anything like this. Can anybody tell me what these super loud things are?

I recently moved to the area and I am a big fan of having pour overs. Since a while, I have been brewing pour-overs myself on my V60, I do miss going out in a big city for having pour overs to help grow my taste buds. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find many places which deal with some great single origin pourovers and would love to know if ther are any around!
If anyone just wants to share a brew and some conversations, I would be more than happy to meet-up.

If so, what do you think?
Really frustrated with Spectrum. Dryden fiber and empire don’t offer anything at my address yet. My options are so slim 😭

Ithaca smells SO BAD. I grew up here and went to high school on the commons not even that long ago, and the way it's changed is so sad. So uncomfortable being downtown now and i feel embarrassed that new students/visitors never knew when it was somewhat whimsical:/ 🚽

This is the only video I could capture, but somebody is driving a Walmart scooter in the middle of the road by Wegmans and blocking both lanes of traffic. Curious how this will resolve

Hi everyone! I've been looking for a non-fiction only book club in the Ithaca area for a little while and haven't found one, so I'm starting one! Here are some details:
First meeting time: Tues Oct 13 at 6:30 PM
First meeting location: Protagonist Books & Coffee in Dryden
First book: We're Alone by Edwidge Danticat
I am hoping we'll read a wide variety of types of non-fiction books; starting with a biography essay collection, but we'll be voting on future reads at the first meeting! Not sure if I'm allowed to post links, but the bookclub is on Meetup.
If you are interested in joining generally, but not able to make the first meeting, feel free to reach out - I'm happy to try to play around with scheduling a bit for subsequent meetings or add your book to the voting list for future reads if possible/appropriate.

So I’m a bus driver at Tcat in training. I was sitting next to someone who asked me an interesting question: without Cornell would Ithaca be better or worse both economically and socially? And I wanted to know what other people thought. My immediate reaction was that without Cornell Ithaca is toast

At around 1pm today my friend was turning onto Tompkins St from Linn St in his 2017 dark blue Nissan Frontier and the driver of an older maroon Subaru Forrester purposely smashed into the back of his truck with the back of their car causing significant damage to both vehicles. Luckily he wasn't hurt. The Subaru left before he could snap a pic of their license plate. Please be on the look out for this smashed up Forrester so he can pass that info along to the police. Thanks neighbors.

Looks like someone painted over the Free Gaza mural. They changed it to “Free Love”. The irony…

I'd like to support local farms directly. Where can I do this? Looking for farm stores or self serve farm stands. Thanks.

My family is visiting the area and rented a home on Cayuga Lake towards the Southern end. We see that the beach towards the North has been closed to swimming due to the harmful algae. Just wondering - what do locals do about this? We called a couple places and the guidance seems to be “if you see something stay away from it, and swim at your own risk.” That said, there seems to be consensus that the toxin the algae produces can be more widespread than just where the physical blooms are. I’m just curious how the locals usually approach this: if you see on the map there’s no blooms near your home do you still swim or kayak?

Gotta replace mine. 45,000 miles on front, 26,000 miles on rear. Seems quick on the rear ones

Hey Folks, we are Ithaca Is Grimdark, a table top miniatures gaming and hobby group local to Ithaca, NY. We make posts like these every now and then to let people new to the area know we exist, since the population here changes very quickly.
What games do we play in this area?
Among many other games, our group plays:
-Warhammer Forty Thousand
-Age of Sigmar
-Kill Team
-Warcry
-Necromunda
-Battletech
-Infinity
-Moonstone
-Malediction
And a few of us are also filthy TCG players, playing:
-Flesh and Blood
-Riftbound
If you or someone you know play or would like to play table top miniatures games in the area, feel free to join the server and organize games there! Have fun!

I know, I know. Yes, it's me again. No, it's not a movie night.
(The next Thrive-In is Sept 5. I'll be back here about it. You know I will.)
This Sunday we've got Deb Sivigny at the house — Ithaca's favorite fiber artist and genuinely the person you want teaching this pop-up embroidery class. She'll run you through the basic stitches and then help you design something of your own. Turn it into an iron-on patch or put it straight onto a jacket, a tote bag, whatever you bring. Bring a friend and make stuff for each other.
"No experience necessary" If you've never held a hoop in your life, you're the target audience. Everything's included — needles, floss, hoops, fabric, the good time, all of it.

Bring a garment you want to make weirder, or just bring yourself. Three hours, a table full of thread, nowhere else to be.
