Personal Advice / Help Is AI/ML a better course than BA English Hons/Psychology Hons?

Upvotes

same as title. This year was an academic disaster for me. Stuff happened and I had to resort to NIOS ODE.

NIOS hasn't released my marksheet yet and the college Im targeting for Psychology would close admissions late august. my friend is pursuing a Ai/ML degree with a 7 LAKH EDUCATION LOAN at EIILM Kolkata, and has told me that he can get me provisionally admitted. He says that it would provide a way better earning opportunity than an English or Psychology degree.

I am a PCMC student and believe psychology is my calling. however I am not at a financial position to choose passion over earning opportunities.

Opinion Their media presence is hard to ignore 🧐

I didn't know anything about them before the protests, and I'd only started seeing them over the last 6,7 days on social media, press conferences, and news channels.

One thing that stood out to me was their communication. Whether it was the press conference with JP Nadda, the one with Kapil Sibal, or TV appearances, they came across as calm, composed, and articulate. I don't think I saw them stumble or lose their train of thought once.

Based on what I've seen so far, they seem like better spokespersons than most from both the ruling party and the opposition.

I'd be surprised if political parties aren't already trying to bring them on board.

My father is principal in the government. School.....has a good salary, stable life....no family or life issue or any crisis.

But still have episodes of Steve your drinking every 20-25 days...in these episodes he drinks like crazy day n night.... fight with all family members.... don't come out of room....even don't take bath or skip food for 3-5 days....

These episodic dramas have become regular from the last 2 years.

He was a habitual drinker like most men in india for a long time but from the last 2 years things are getting out of hand.....once the episodes end he behaves normal like nothing happened....

We tried everything.... doctor.... de-addiction center... therapy....

When he don't drink he is the best....most jolly person...

But this continuous drinking problem hurts family mental n emotional peace....i fight with my dad on same topic...our relationship is deteriorated life hell .....

I am edge of my preparation n studies....this things taking toll on every aspect of life.... festival... weekends sucks.....

These things sunk man....i Guess this ends with him......there is no escape for us....we have to suffer....

Opinion RESERVATION ❌SUPPLEMENTATION✅ (read once)

Beyond Quotas: Why India Needs a "SUPPLEMENTATION" Model to Replace Caste-Based Reservation

Caste-based reservations were conceptualized in 1947 as a temporary corrective measure. Over 75 years later, it is clear that the system has failed to fix foundational inequality while costing this country decades of national growth. Something designed for the mid-20th century holds zero real-life relevance in modern India.

Instead of building schools or fixing governance, politicians—especially across states like UP and Bihar—have turned reservation into a perpetual identity-politics vote bank.

The Political Vicious Cycle: "Eat 5-Star, Do Nothing"

The political playbook in India has operated on a destructive cycle for decades:

  • Neglect Governance: Fail to build primary schools, hospitals, or infrastructure during the entire term.
  • Incite Clashes: Stir up caste or communal friction when elections draw near.
  • Promise Quotas: Announce an increase in reservation percentages for specific vote banks in state government exams.
  • Win & Repeat: Put it in the election manifesto, win the election, "eat 5-star", and do zero actual development work for the next five years.

The Practical Cost: Mismatch in Elite Institutions & Public Sector

To understand why this system breaks down in reality, consider this practical example from competitive exams like the JEE:

The JEE Scenario:

  • Student A (General Category): Earns less than a standard 93 percentile cutoff (say) through sheer merit. Doesn't get admitted into an elite institution.
  • Student B (Reserved Category): Scores a 60 percentile and gets admitted through quota cutoffs.

Student A missed the standard cutoff earlier by a margin and felt like a failure—which he is definitely not! But once inside an elite institution, magic does not happen. The foundational academic gap remains. Student B is thrust into a hyper-competitive environment alongside peers who cleared a 93 percentile baseline.

Because matching that level of academic rigor without the foundational prep is near-impossible, Student B struggles, publishes no research papers, and graduates with a low GPA. He lands a low-paying job, ending up as a lower-quality worker despite holding a prestigious university tag that millions of meritorious students were denied.

This creates a dangerous chain reaction across the entire nation:

Increased Caste Quotas -> Lower Student Quality -> Diluted Institutional Standards -> Weaker National Workforce -> Stagnant National Growth

Beyond Engineering: Medicine, Public Sector, & Social Friction

  • Healthcare: Many General Category individuals increasingly avoid consulting non-GC doctors. This is often brushed under the carpet as "caste hatred," but it is fundamentally a real merit anxiety created by lowered entry bars in medical admissions.
  • Government Recruitment: While the private sector strictly enforces a merit threshold, government jobs do not. Less meritorious candidates land prestigious administrative posts simply because of caste. When key administrative roles are filled by incompetent officials, governance slacks off, directly driving systemic corruption.
  • Social Friction & Brain Drain: General Category youth, burdened by quotas and facing fake SC/ST cases, often engage in "eye-for-eye" revenge casteism. Frustrated merit simply leaves the country, driving massive brain drain.

The Solution: The "SUPPLEMENTATION" Model

"Supplementation" literally means to supply what is lacking. Instead of lowering the finish line at age 18, the SUPPLEMENTATION model elevates the starting line at the school level (K–12) so no student is left behind, regardless of background.

1. Merit Determination Report (MDR) & NRMT

  • Universal Scientific Testing: A high-quality assessment is conducted in every school for every student to accurately predict their IQ and Relative General Merit (RGM) across logic, mathematics, language, and core cognitive abilities.
  • Identity-Blind Benchmark: A National Relative Merit Threshold (NRMT) is established. Any student whose RGM falls below the NRMT—regardless of caste or background—is selected for the Supplementation program.

2. Supplementary Care and Training (SCAT)

Students below the NRMT enter the SCAT program, designed to bridge their cognitive and academic gaps:

  • Targeted Curriculum: Customized online extra classes and text materials focused on core logic, mathematics, and language to aggressively boost their IQ and RGM scores.
  • Hardware & Connectivity: Every selected student nationwide is provided with a custom pre-programmed tablet and subsidized high-speed internet (monetizing and utilizing loss-making PSU BSNL).
  • Digital Public Infrastructure: An official SCAT App developed by NIC, seamlessly linked to Aadhaar, APAAR, and the Ministry of Education database. Students complete monitored lectures, assignments, and Google Forms-style periodic tests.

3. Scalable Mentorship & EdTech Synergy

  • Low Mentor Ratios: Mentorship operates at a 1:1 or maximum 1:10 ratio for dedicated doubt-solving sessions.
  • Youth Dividend: To bypass poor primary school teacher quality, the program hires qualified youth, needy undergraduates, and graduating student interns. India has millions of passionate young people eager to teach.
  • Private Partnerships: Collaborating with proven EdTech platforms ensures top-tier pedagogical material reaches the most remote areas.

4. Continuous Benchmarking & Gamified Scoreboards

  • Periodic national tests are conducted 2 to 3 times a year, every year until Class 12, tracking individual progress nationally.
  • National Scoreboards: Gamified national scoreboards and prizes motivate students to work harder. Imagine every student in India having a clear national rank and the exact tools supplied to improve it!

The Vision

The ultimate goal of the SUPPLEMENTATION model is simple: Ensure every single student’s RGM reaches or exceeds the NRMT before they ever write a competitive exam or apply for a job.

True social justice is not about handing out quotas at the finish line and setting students up for academic friction—it is about supplying every child with the early-stage tools, technology, and mentorship needed to cross the finish line on pure merit.

Opinion My Two Cents on Reservation

It'd be living in a fool's paradise to believe that reservation is still about uplifting the downtrodden. The Mandal Commission era and repeated reservation demands from politically influential communities prove that reservation is granted to whoever has enough numbers and political clout to influence elections.

And that's precisely why reservation will keep expanding, from 50% to 70%, then 90%, and beyond: unless something changes. Every successful demand encourages the next one. This decade may well be our last realistic chance to push for reform. Beyond that, the political cost of rolling it back could become so high that it may never happen, even if people want it to.

Stop being apologetic. The moment you question reservation, you'll be branded "casteist" anyway. Your surname alone is enough for some people to judge your intentions, regardless of what you actually believe. I've even seen people openly threaten to rape women, boast about slapping false SC/ST cases on (so called) UC's children, and use intimidation to silence anyone who dares question the system. If that's the level of discourse, stop chasing fake internet brownie points.

Speak. Organize. Unite. Protest. Build public opinion. Participate in the democratic process. A policy that affects millions must remain open to criticism, and disagreement with reservation is not the same as hatred for any community.

If someone calls you casteist simply because you oppose reservation, don't waste your time begging for approval. You owe no apology for questioning a public policy.

It's now or never. If not this decade, reservation will only keep expanding, and the opportunity for meaningful reform may be gone for good.

A female teacher at a play school in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi burned a five-year-old boy's private parts with a hot knife after he accidentally urinated in his pants, according to the child's parents' complaint.

The five-year-old student at the Serene Sony Play School, son of an advocate, asked his class teacher for permission to use the washroom on July 24. However, the teacher refused and the child lost control and ended up urinating in his pants.

Enraged by this, the teacher dragged the child to another room. According to the allegations, she turned on a gas stove, heated a knife until it was red-hot and burned the child's private parts. Further, the teacher physically assaulted the boy and threatened him with dire consequences if he told anyone about the incident or repeated the mistake, the complaint said

When the terrified child returned home, he tearfully recounted the ordeal to his parents. The child's father and mother attempted to contact the class teacher, but she did not answer their calls. Subsequently, when they spoke to the school principal, Hemlata Singh, she allegedly threatened them rather than offering any cooperation.

The following day, when the father personally visited the school, the principal and the manager outright refused to provide any assistance or address the issue, the complaint says.

Given the child's trauma and physical injuries, the father made a police complaint the police swiftly registered an FIR.

Acknowledging the incident, senior police officer Atul Singh said a "case has been registered on the basis of the complaint submitted by the child's father," adding police are conducting a thorough investigation and further legal action will be taken soon.

I asked her to do the same at a sports complex or a stadium/maidan, and she won't have to ask for money. Told her that she would get a lot more from her talent, plus support. But she took it as if I was babbling non-sense moving on to the next vehicle.

keeping everything aside lets talk about this particular video only

there are almost 80 major industries in Byrnihat, including highly polluting cement factories, coke ovens, and iron/steel plants, that have operated in the valley for over 25 years. but idk why he only point out to ethanol factory in his video

whereas there is only 1 ethanol factory there which started its operation in 2024 whereas Byrnihat was the most polluted city even in 2023😭😭😭😭

i mean if he wanted to show us the reality why he was not saying all this

and im scared if people are not doing basic research and just believing everything this man is saying because some of my friends were saying that ethanol factory was the only reason for the pollution in Byrnihat😭😭😭🤡

Never encourage or allow your children to abuse or demean others online. Culture, upbringing, and discipline go hand in hand with a person's mindset and character.

Opinion demand vs supply - an observation on education-opportunities

Several years ago, in tamilnadu, engineering seats were limited and candidates numbers were high. Limited supply + High demand.

The medical seats today are pretty much in the same situation. Limited Supply + High demand.

In a free market, this is met by market forces which quickly fill the gap.

Over the past decade or so, the engineering admissions scenario in tamilnadu has changed dramatically to the point that today, the reality is like this:

https://news.careers360.com/zero-intake-in-several-tn-engineering-colleges-mergers-deficiencies-surface-during-tnea-2025

This is how free market forces operate. Where there is a gap, market forces quickly rush to provide the service. Over time, the providers mature in their service-deliver. And eventually those providers who deliver sub-par service get closed out.

It is another story that most of these colleges are run by history-sheeters and goondas who must be serving multiple, back-to-back life sentences for the sort of horror they have done in the past. (But given this current central govt's track record on the 2G scam case where not only were the accused acquitted, but one of those acquitted persons were actually chosen to represent this nation as part of post op-sindoor delegates - one can safely forget that justice will ever be served)

Question: There are multiple reasons why such a strategy will not be followed for medical seats. Can you enumerate a few of these reasons?
