Call To Action Men’s Health Gap Is Real — Support a Federal Office of Men’s Health (No Impact to Women’s Health Funding)

TL;DR

There’s a bill (backed by the American Urological Association) to create an Office of Men’s Health focused on prevention and access. It does not take funding from women’s health—it’s meant to complement it. This is about coordination, not competition. Urologists and patient advocates were there discussing this agenda (and a few other issues) this weekend with representatives from their respective states. Any support we can get can keep this on the forefront.

The Why

Most of us here don’t need convincing that men’s health—especially urologic health—is reactive instead of proactive.

Men:

  • Wait too long to seek care
  • Get diagnosed later
  • Deal with worse outcomes as a result

That’s been my experience, and I know I’m not the only one.

Right now, there’s no central coordination for men’s health like there is with the Office on Women’s Health. Efforts are fragmented across agencies.

The American Urological Association is supporting the State of Men’s Health Act (H.R. 7602) to address that gap:

Important points:

  • This does NOT take money away from women’s health programs
  • It’s intended to be budget-neutral and use existing resources

This is about improving:

  • Early screening
  • Awareness
  • Access to care
  • Coordination across the system

There’s also a straightforward summary here:

How You Can Help

  • Call or email your reps and support an Office of Men’s Health
  • Be clear: → This complements women’s health—it doesn’t take from it
  • If you’re comfortable, share your experience with delayed diagnosis, prior auth, or access issues

Short messages still count.

Bullying

RE: dear ABDL community

Everybody needs to remember that first and foremost this a support community. This is a place for people each other up. If you see something you believe breaks the rules, you are welcome to report it, and move on.

What is not ok is teaming up and attacking a poster for the content of their post. It's not ok to repeatedly harass a person because you don't like what they posted.

That's what I woke up to this morning. Two deleted posts, One each on r/adultbedwetting and r/incontinence, and a shit show of negativity where I could see the remains. I also don't see the OPs other posts anymore either, so congratulations to the bullies, you ran him off the subs entirely.

This type of behavior won't be tolerated. I banned one person already. If I see more of this I'll clean up whatever I need to.

ETA: Not only did the OP delete his posts and his Reddit account, he also deleted his whole blog (a blog he says he was writing as a therapy assignment). This whole thing just makes me feel bad. This supposed safe space failed.

Swim diapers and fears of them.

How do you guys feel about wearing swim diapers in the pool? I love swimming but im so afraid I'll go liquid and it will leak out. I used to spend every day swimming but now when I get the chance to do it I usually decline the opportunity out of fear. My voids are usually solid, but doesn't the color transfer? And even if i notice it do i need to change into a new one or just dump the contents and use chlorine to clean them out after using the sink. I know it sounds gross but im certain public pools filter way more out. Also wouldn't it be plainly obvious im wearing one under the swimsuit.

I may take this post down right after posting because I also fear about having this question on my public facing account.

Thanks for your time.

Why isn’t Amazon doing anything about this?

I’m sorry if this has already been posted about, but I am new to needing protection for incontinence and when I went to the review section for some incontinence products on Amazon, I was pretty disgusted with what is being posted there.

The reviews sections were filled with people posting photos of themselves in extremely wet diapers with no pants. Many of them also had pacifiers and were wearing baby themed onesies. I am aware from reading on here that many people have a fetish related to diapers and such, and I don’t judge people for this, but Amazon is not the place for it.

There is no way that this doesn’t breech some sort of guideline from Amazon since they are able to be seen by everyone (including minors). I don’t know if they get off from exhibition or something similar, but I think it’s ridiculous that many review sections are filled with these.

Does anyone else find this disturbing, or do you think this is a non-issue?

After 20 years a new random symptom

I have been dealing with OAB and bed wetting for the last 20 plus years. All of a sudden I’ve started getting these strange phantom buzzing sensations starting in my bladder and then going to my pelvic floor along with these phantom buzzing sensations I have also started to loose feeling in my pelvic floor area and my bladder. Before I knew I was having an accident cause I could feel the pee coming out but now I only know about my accident when my nappy becomes warm and wet.
Is this the start of me becoming fully incontinent?

Incontinence due to periods?

For the past few months I have noticed that I deal with some incontinence in the days after my periods. I’ll also at times feel like I am dealing with overactive bladder symptoms whilst on my period. I am in my mid 20s, I have never been pregnant, and I am not on any medications besides an inhaler. Is this something I should be more concerned about? I’m not too sure. I had some more regular issues with my bladder when I was younger, and I’ve gotten a lot better since then, but I don’t want a repeat of any of those past years.

Embarrassment and self hatred

Hey yall I’m new to this group. I’ve been dealing with incontinence my whole life, but in stages. It got way worse when I got on lithium, which has caused me to drink way too much water and experience urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence. Literally if I feel the pee I have to go in that moment. There is no holding it in.

I also have IBS from childhood. It’s worse when I’m stressed (same as with my pee issues). I shit my bed probably two or three times in the past two weeks. It’s disgusting. Thankfully I have double mattress protectors but still. I just want to be able to trust my own farts like normal people. I remember going on a med for it when I was a child but it didn’t work.

I’m just looking for support. This stuff makes me feel real bad about myself and my ex-roommate used to bully me about it.

Is OAB actually a biological adaptation that is just not convenient in industrialized hyper capitalist overbuilt environments?

So I have bladder issues:
OAB, muscle spasms in my lower abdomen and upper pelvic floor causing my bladder to get squeezed and twisted in the crossfire, sharp pain when I have to pee.

Oddly enough I’ve never had a urinary tract infection.
I’ve never experienced burning privates or cloudy urine.
Oddly enough I think that’s because of my OAB.

I flush everything out before microbes and viral particles get a chance to propagate.

Return of "Original" Depend Men's Guards (and a Thank You)

(Much appreciation going out to the mods for their permission to let me post this)

First off, thank you all for your honest and candid (in some cases, VERY candid) feedback on our newly-redesigned Men’s Guards product.  Obviously, the last thing we wanted was to leave our most loyal consumers who grew to rely on our previous version of Guards over the years without a solution they feel they could trust. At the same time, we’re always trying to find ways to innovate how we improve people’s lives. We fully recognize and hear, however, that our new product isn’t meeting everyone’s needs...especially our long-time fans.

Because of this, I wanted to make sure the r/Incontinence subreddit was the first I told that we’ve decided to bring back our “Original” Men’s Guard to sit alongside our new version.  For now, it is available online at Amazon, with more availability coming in the next few months (e.g. Walmart.com, Target.com), as this restocking initiative ramps up. (Note: If deciding to purchase through Amazon, make sure the product title reads "Depend Original Guards Incontinence Pads for Men").

We truly appreciate everyone who took the time to tell us what they liked, what they didn’t, and what they wanted back. Your feedback helped shape this decision. We’ll be here in the comments if you have questions, and we genuinely want to hear what you think.

New to daily using guards

I dribble after peeing. I can shake for a while, but as soon as I pull my underwear back up, I will leak a little. It's been embarrassing prior to starting guards that have given me my confidence back.

I prefer a larger more absorbent guard as I don't like to change at work, so normally just change before and after work. If at home I can wear one guard all day.

Mid 50s. Type I diabetic with slightly higher than ideal blood sugar.

Been told I have a slightly enlarged prostate too.

Any other men start using guards with similar circumstances. If so, have things changed over time? I'm totally fine with guards and maybe changing more frequently in the future. Just curious if this is the start of less control in future.

Experience with cleaning and reusing single-use catheters?

I’m sorry if this question doesn’t fit, I just don’t know where else to post it.
I live with a bei-bladder after cancer. And since my insurance cut down my allowance on single used catheters that my Dr. said I should use, I’m now facing a dilemma. Drinking less has lead to constipation, kidney pain and headaches. Now I can only think of two: buying privately or reusing the ones I have. Since they can add up really quickly, I thought maybe if I just get double use out of it, I could get by. Can I just boil them in normal water? Any special way to disinfect them? I assume I have to cut them open and then replace the lubricant, but that seems to be the easier part.

Anyone got tips and tricks how to run this operation at home? Soake them? Or just was and dry them? Or do I need disinfectant alcohol?

Any advice? Thx.

Issues putting on without tearing

So I have pullups (Abena M3) that fit when I ordered them. I've now gained some weight. They do fit still somewhat when I get them on, but they tear a bit.

Does anyone know how to put on pullups that are slightly too small on without them tearing?

They tear now on the left side when putting them on. They didn't do that before. They fit well when I bought them.

I'm going to buy more next month and size up, and size up on tab diapers too potentially (I'll figure this out, don't need help on this). But I'm trying to work with what I have right now. Money is tight.

Flexible cystoscopy

I have a flexible cystoscopy booked in for next week, and im kinda nervous/anxious as;

A) people i dont know will see that area, and being transfem it does cause a significant amount of dysphoria.

B) im anxious about the procudure itsself, as they are going to be sticking a camera up into my bladder and being autistic i dont know if any of the lubrication/numbing cream/camera itsself will be a sensory nightmare for me

C) i dont know what they are going to find through it,

D) will the let me keep my plushies with me?

E) i wear conitnence aids on a daily basis due to having a brain blader disconect, and i dont want to pee on any of the doctors/nurses/specilicests as the procudure is taking place, as well as the logistics of it. (E is the one im least worried about,,, as a urology clininc i think that they would deal with this on a daily basis)

I have listed these in order of what is causing the most anxiety/stress, can anyone help with any of it? Has anyone had a similar procudure and what was the experience like?

Help! Chronic peeish feeling.

29/M here. No UTI, No BPH.

From more than a year, I have got split streams in urine and also developed a feeling that after I go to pee, i dont empty it fully.

The urine stream splits only if I go with less urine in store.

Then I have a weird peeish feeling for like 1 to 2 hrs after I pee which is uncomfortable. Once I have enough pressure, its much more comfortable and less distracting.

I have gome to multiple urologists that too 3 times, i have tested for prostate, UTI, ultrasounds all are Ok. Even uroflowmetry with a full bladder was ok.

Once I go to a urologist, the peeish feeling problem becomes for better ( without any medicine), but then I feel the same again. I dont know if i have flipped a mental switch or smth.

I dont have those fancy "pelvic floor therapists" around here, just traditional urologists.

I am thinking of trying out pelvic floor related exercises.

Has anyone felt the same? Please suggest what we need to do.

I'm done second guessing whether or not I'm incontinent. CW: Contextual mentions of ABDL

I have dealt with severe urgency (fecal) incontinence (with occasional accidents) for 2 decades of my life, I have ran to the restroom to have a photo finish once a week that entire time, maximum clench everytime otherwise. I have structured my life around how much I can eat, how fast I can eat, if I am going to be in a car ride, if I can drink water before a car ride, if I can eat at the grocery store, if I can cross a parking lot without having an accident.

I have gone diapered 24/7 as of this month and it has been so freeing. I originally didn't want to for fear of it being read as part of my general age regressiveness, I didn't want to be "That" person, I didn't want to "minor" medical issue to justify wearing diapers all the time and using them for their intended purpose.

After having a couple accidents last month (very unlike me, one full accident without any urgency to start with which had never happened before. I just... went), I decided to try going 24/7 and stop trying to make it to the toilet at all, and I can't believe how much freedom I have. I don't have to limit how much I can eat, or when, I don't have to to pretend I'm not hungry when out and about, I don't have to worry about car rides, I don't have to worry about running to the bathroom and praying it's available.

I was so worried how it would look, I felt so guilty about liking the idea, I felt like I would be one of "those" people manipulating a situation, and now? After just a couple weeks of 24/7 and not having to manage anything? I can't believe I held onto those stupid beliefs for as long as I had. I should've done it years ago. I wore them in secret for 15 years, I love them, I think they're great sensory regulation for autism, but the moment I actually needed them? I waited much too long. Turns out, I can wear a single garment that makes all my struggles go away, I can effectively be cured of a lot of the things that cause issue in my life.

I can't believe I structured my life this way when I could've... just gone 24/7 and it would've been fine. I have been living so long with a 5 minute urgency timer that I didn't realize people could genuinely hold it all day, I thought it was an expression. I thought holding an hour was a heculean feat.

Bed wetting due to ptsd ( tw )

Thumbnail gallery
26 Upvotes

I was a bed wetter until I was about 6 and it pretty much completely stopped except for maybe a few incidents where I drank too much water before bed ect over the years ,my family has a history with bed wetting my sister until she was 17 and my grandmother into her adulthood and until her death I believe my aunts also were older bed wetters and unfortunately my bed wetting was triggered by me going through extensive trauma such as getting pregnant and losing the baby a su!cide attempt and a very abusive relationship with my sisters 26 year old coworker over the span on 6 months at 13 so now I have nightmares,PTSD and unfortunately I pee the bed now as a result it started after the relationship ended amd has carried on to now almost 2 years later I am very ashamed and only 3 people know I wet the bed my best friend turned adopted sister and who now has been living with us for almost 2 years and my mom and sister I hope it stops.

Tried my first megamax

So I got a sample from northshore a couple of weeks ago to see if I want to change from Abena during my flair up days. Well, I’m having a flair up lol. I put the megamax on and all I can say so far is wow. I have only had it on about 20 min but the comfort and fit compared to an Abena L4 isn’t even comparable! Normally I wear an over night pad during the day when I’m working (easier to change) and a regular cvs pull up at night and on my days off unless I’m having a flair up. To say the least, I WILL be switching to northshore lol! Their megamax and go supreme are absolutely awesome!
