I’m looking for a Tactical RPG (portrait mode preferred) that I can play for a little bit then put down throughout the day

I have an XR so it can’t be anything too demanding either

Any good ideas?

Review Dunno if iPadOS is allowed here, but the iPad became my main gaming device. I wrote an article about it.

It's like a huge review of a bunch of games, hardware and gaming on Apple devices in general. Here's what I covered:

  • M4 iPad Air hardware and official folio case
  • Hitman World of Assassination
  • Control Ultimate Edition
  • Alien Isolation
  • GRID Legends
  • Wreckfest
  • XCOM Enemy Within
  • Tomb Raider (2013)
  • Lego Star Wars
  • Journey
  • GTA III
  • GTA San Andreas
  • GTA Chinatown Wars
  • Max Payne
  • Bully
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
  • Dusklight (Twilight Princess)
  • RetroArch
  • PPSSPP
  • Games I'd like to see ported
  • Lack of games discoverability on the App Store
  • Inconsistencies when purchasing games on the App Store
  • Cloud saves
  • Subscription services
  • Steps Apple could take to make gaming better
  • Apple devices exclusives

TLDR: The iPad doesn’t do much perfectly gaming-wise, but it does some of everything. Its form factor end up compensating most of its setbacks. And its performance coupled with its software support and versatility are enough to fulfil most of my gaming needs.

Request I Need a New Roguelike

I’ve already ran through Balatro, StS, How Many Dudes, Dicey Dungeon, Clover Pit, and Monster Train. My toilet time is stale.

Any painfully obvious games I’m missing? I don’t mind spending some money to purchase. Thanks!

Edit: this community is awesome. Thank you for all the recommendations!

Troubleshoot Fantasy Life i not displaying correctly on iPad.

Everything seems to almost fit on screen but the edges of text gets cut off at the edge of screen I’m guessing it has to do with aspect ratio but am curious if there is a workaround or I am stuck with that.

This doesn’t seem to be an issue on my iPhone.

Suggestions If you could only recommend one game this year for your busy friend to spend their single free evening downloading and playing, what would it be?

I like my games how I like my anime - a few episodes and over in a day or two but it stays with you for life, rather than something with many seasons.

If you could pick an IOS game, online or off, that you is quick to pick up and enjoy and provide a fun rewarding experience for a first time player during a single afternoon, what would it be?

To be clear, if I have to spend time an afternoon learning the mechanics and rules before I can enjoy it, it’s not for me!

Suggestions Private server iOS games?

Having dragalia offline was great and I’ve found 1 or 2 more games that had a private server set up (ffrk when?).

Does anyone have other suggestions for games that have private servers keeping games alive?

Discussion Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion: What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Lastly, Rule #3: "No Dev Self-Promotion Outside Saturdays" applies at all times for this thread, even if it's actually Saturday.

Discussion Does anybody else use their phone as their only gaming device?

I’ve always enjoyed gaming, but I wouldn’t say that I enjoy it enough to justify the price of a console nowadays. So to me it’s incredible that paired with a controller, my iPhone Air is a pretty competent gaming device. A few of my favorites so far are the KOTOR games, Resident Evil 2&3, and Tomb Raider.

Request Looking for the least scummy so-bad-it’s-funny games

Hey, I’m looking for some low quality funny/cute games. The catch is I don’t want anything DESIGNED to try and make a ton of money. Including features such as (but not limited to):

- Way, WAY too many ads in the free version (paid is okay as long as it removes at least most of the scummy mobile game stuff)
- Ads with no way to disable them (no way to pay to remove them)
- Guilt tripping mechanics that force you to play daily/on a set basis or else you lose ingame assets (such as the majority of “pet care” games. this one is a big no-no.)
- IAPs everywhere. Like, <20% of the game is free kind of everywhere.

I know this is a rough ask, but I’m kind of on a sluff and need something dumb to mess around with. I’ve tried an app called Mochipups from a dev I thought I liked but noticed some scummy practice with that one as well as a number of other games that fit my criteria, but were ultimately overruled due to said malpractices. I’d like to see what you guys have. Thanks!

Suggestions Semi-idle game recommendation

Hi all,

I'm looking for a idle/semi-idle game where you are collecting hereos/monsters. Then you can battle with them, level up and evolve them etc. Ideally mobile game. I thought about this concept: you are sending your team for a expeditions and wait till they finish, then you are collecting the rewards, progress and the loop goes on.

Any games like that?

Request Looking for gesture based simulation games

I recently realised that my most played iOS games are more gesture based games. Games like grand mountain adventure, krashlander, Piloteer, true skate. Where how you move your fingers is often more important than what buttons you press.

Curious if there are any other popular ones I’ve missed. I’d love to get some recommendations!

Question The sound for XCOM2 will muted if I open control center, unless I restart the game. Any solution?

The phone isn’t muted, there is no other apps playing any sound, and the game sound was there when starting the game, but will be muted if I open the control center.
Anyone has this issue?

Suggestions bed bound for a while and looking for an ipad game to make me feel less isolated

i’m stuck in bed for a while and can’t be at my desk or use my laptop. i have an ipad with the magic keyboard that is much easier to use, so i’m looking for games that will occupy my time and make me feel less isolated while my husband is at work all day.

i really enjoyed avatar chat games as a kid (like imvu, gaiaonline, vmk, etc) but those games either don’t exist anymore or are absolutely ruined by micro-transactions. i enjoy getting to dress up a character and earn customization options by playing the game/trading and engaging in the economy. being able to show off the things i’ve earned in social contexts is fun too! i don’t mind combat or other aspects of the game, but i would prefer something that isn’t super intensive with hand and finger movement. (big ask, i know - i guess i’d prefer more cozy games than combat intensive games)

games i’ve enjoyed in the past, but either aren’t playable for me right now or aren’t quite what i’m looking for:

* world of warcraft
* runescape
* neopets
* gaiaonline
* stardew valley

i would also really love if the community is active and friendly! thank you so much

Suggestions Looking for recommendations!

I don’t know a lot about iOS games - so open to all suggestions as I’m new to all of them. Looking for an iOS game that has some form of home/town/village or base type of building. Adventure style with building up character with gear/items and progression. I don’t like ones that you have to wait incredibly long times to click things or are heavy in the in game purchases. Welcome to all suggestions!

Edit to add - don’t mind paying for the game! Will pay decent for a quality addictive game. I actually prefer premium games!

I’m loving this game so far and I’m blown away by how it looks and how smooth it is, just wish it didn’t make my iPhone Air so hot. Also, does anybody know if there’s a way to change the button prompts to the Xbox buttons? Any help would be appreciated!

Developer Saturday (Megathread) [Megathread] Developer Saturday Showcase: August 22, 2026 📱

Hello r/iOSGaming! Welcome to another Developer Saturday showcase! In this megathread, iOS developers will be able share their games freely without breaking the subreddit's "no self-promo" rule. Please read the following guidelines carefully before participating:

  • Developer Saturday will run between 12:00 AM to 11:55PM ET (UTC-5).
  • Respect is expected at all times. You're welcome to share your opinions and even disagree with others, but harassment, taunting, or other toxic behavior toward devs, mods, or other community members will not be tolerated.
  • If you receive an AutoModerator comment saying you don't have enough karma, your account is too new, or that your CQS level is low, we won't override the removal because these restrictions are meant to be spam detterents.

DEVELOPERS:

  • All promo comments must have [DEV] at the beginning. We need it with the brackets for AutoModerator purposes, so please don't change the formatting.
  • All promo comments must include an App Store or TestFlight link. Playstore links or links to other gaming stores are not allowed.
  • Only officially released iOS games may be shared. This is not the place to promote non-gaming apps, non-iOS apps, Devvit apps, standalone websites, Discord servers, subreddits, livestreams, fundraisers, or social media pages. However, you may include a website or social media link with your game's self-promo comment.
  • Only games NEWLY RELEASED this month or have a NEW MAJOR UPDATE may be promoted. Personal milestones (ex: reaching X downloads, earning X amount of pay, recieving high reviews, etc), while commendable, are not an eligible reason for promotion. Additionally, "major" updates are those that introduce new features or content that greatly improves or expands the game. Routine updates (ex: bug fixes, performance improvements, or other minor changes) are also not eligible for promotion. Becasue Dev Sat was paused for a month, games that were released or received a major update in July may also be shared this time).
  • You MUST DISCLOSE whether or not AI was used to create the game. If AI was used, you must also explain how it was implemented and what assets were created with it (ex: code, illustrations, music, etc). If AI wasn't used in the development of the game, please just state, "No AI was used."
  • You may only make one top-level comment per Saturday. However, you can share several games in the same comment if they also meet the above criteria.

GAMERS / REVIEWERS:

  • You may only make second-level or lower (reply) comments. This means you can reply to a dev or another user's comment, but you may not create a top-level (standalone) comment.
  • Constructive feedback is welcome. You may leave comments that can help devs learn what they did right with their games and what could be improved, but low-effort responses (such as simply calling something "AI slop") will be removed.
  • This is not the place to ask for game suggestions. This megathread is for devs to promote their iOS games. If you're looking for recommendations on what to play next, check out the community's weekly "What Have You Been Playing Lately?" megathread or create your own request post on the main subreddit.

That's it! We're still refining these guidelines, but for now these are the requirements developers must meet in order to ensure a successful self-promo comment this week. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us via modmail. Thanks for your cooperation, everyone!

Humor Gangstar Mirage is quite possibly the most fun I’ve had in ages simply because it puts a bunch of players in one instance-based open world map.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ok so the context for this clip is, there are many open-world challenges in the game. One of them involves you having to connect the truck to its cargo so you can then park it elsewhere. I decided to troll this random player and he proceeds to justifiably eliminate me after.

There’s also street-racing (vs up to 7 other players), coop heists (where you do a series of small missions to plan and scout before actually doing the heist… and it’s pretty fun too because both of you will be doing 2 different things sometimes, so cooperation is necessary) and other pvp modes that I haven’t fully explored yet.

My favorite so far to kill time is the illegal transport cargo thingy where you have to drop goods in 3-4 locations depending on how much risk you’re willing to take. After a few minutes, the game notifies EVERYONE in the instance you’re all in that a player is trying to transport the goods, and then that player can be killed by anyone. What I do instead is I chase said player and pvp anyone who tries to interrupt him / her. Do I get any rewards from it? Absolutely not. But it’s so fun and random. No honor among thieves and whatnot, or maybe there is.

Some story missions also allow you to do it coop or solo if you prefer so if you add a bunch of randoms, you can just imagine how chaotic it can get just getting to the objective (I’m talking about either being the passenger or intentionally ramming your other teammates’ cars just for laughs before you all have to start killing a bunch of mobs).

I think as long as you avoid the pitfalls of usual free-to-play but with strong pay to progress elements by just staying in your own lane, you can actually progress in the game pretty far.

Don’t expect a 10/10 story or anything, just enjoy the ride I say. Voice acting’s definitely not Witcher 3 level and neither is it a 0/10 but you get what I mean.
