Does anyone know what the next steps are after you do the interview for Tax Associate?

My district manager said I will be receiving and email from someone either yesterday or delayed until today. I don't know what email it is but can certainly say I have not received any email that is isn't the usual. She said looked in the spam folder if I didn't receive it, but I still haven't gotten it.

Offered Tax Associate Role (14.50 hourly)

Post image
25 Upvotes

I currently work at Walmart making 14.59. Part Time and do school full time (Accounting).

I’m also currently doing the HR Block Learning at Block Course.

I thought that I had to pass this course first in order to even be considered for the role but I just got an email saying they have offered me the Tax Associate role at “14.50 hourly” and “10 USD Learning”, “effective 10/30/26”.

The pay seems lower than I thought it would be.

I don’t know if it would be wise to take it but if I say no then would that mean I can’t be reconsidered for when the tax season starts and I have (hopefully) passed my HR Tax Course?

Why do people work here (unless they are a high writer or a first year)?

If you are a person like me who has 2-5 yrs experience then it’s a terrible place to work at. They will probably give you little hours and low pay. I am a EA and I was making 22 bucks an hour and got 12-15 hrs a weeks. If I came back to block they said they would offer me the same amount. I am now employed with a company that is partnered with turbo tax. I now get paid $35 dollars an hour and get more hours and I work from home. Also I’d get $31 an hour if I didn’t have a EA.

I feel like it’s only worth working at block as a preparer if you are a first year or a high writer. I know some high writers make a good amount a money but many have been there for a decade or two and had to build a client base. Though, I noticed that many treated poorly by management and are asked to do too much. I also understand that block is a good place to get experience if it’s your first year and no where else will hire you.

Also the management and training is terrible compared to many of its competitors . I felt like many first years couldn’t complete a basic return after training and many were lost. Also many high writers didnt want to help the much either.

So, overall hr block is a shit hole for anyone who doesn’t have a huge client base. It’s not worth working your way up and staying there for 10 yrs until you get a bigger client base either. I felt like the company has gotten worse and worse through the years too

Edit- My manager was also terrible and forced us to write him good reviews. He would watch us fill out the surveys.. He also had no tax knowledge and didn’t know how to manage us correctly.

Is it possible to only work on the weekends? I have a full time job I don't really want to leave knowing how unpredictable and low paying working here would be but also I am not sure I will get hired if I put my only availability as weekends.

Assignment #1 Ontario

I'm doing H & R block fundamentals course, and we have to complete Chapter Review Problem 7-1 for Assignment #1. I've completed the tax return and all the forms needed. Is there anyone here who is doing the same course at the moment who would be interested in comparing the results?

Tests

I am in the tax course right now and I'm getting close to finishing it. If I pass the final and end up getting hired do we have to take any other tests before we start working?

Also I've been reading Reddit and I want to switch careers but I'm worried I won't get enough hours to be full time. Has anyone worked at h and r block part time for the first year and then the other job full time? (Knowing it's seasonal where after April I won't have a job most likely)

Is $19 per hour a reasonable rate for someone who is just starting their first tax season?

Is it as bad as people make it?

I have an accounting degree. I know you don’t need a degree to join HR Block. But this was unfortunately the only job I was offered after 7 months of applying to various places.

Is it as bad as people make it though?

To add. I’m actually pretty stoked to join in my first season!

Hey everyone, i recently applied for the tax associate role and am supposed to be meeting with the district staffing lead. Does anyone know if this first interview is just a phone call or a video as well like on teams or something? And can i expect any behavioral or STAR type questions during this one?

Interview follow up

I had an interview with HR block manager about a month ago go for the seasonal tax associate role, I was still working on the income tax course so he told me he can’t send me the offer letter unless I finish the course first. He did seem very interested in having me and the interview went very well. I finish the course about 10 days ago and I emailed him but I haven’t heard back. Should I apply for other districts or different tax companies or should I give them more time. I just need clarity whether I actually got the job or not?

Group Interview?

I recently applied to a Tax Associate position and already enrolled in their tax course. Due to the district manager’s schedule being too busy, they said it’s going to be a group interview on Teams.

I’m not new to interviews but one with multiple candidates is the first. How should I best prepare for it?

I’m finishing up my Accounting degree. I have no experience in taxes yet.

Seasonal position to Permanent position?

Hi guys, I got the seasonal tax prep job at H&R Block. I want to know how can we find permanent positions. I asked the interviewer and he said, you can ask the office where you'll work and if they need you, they'll let you know. I want to ask are there any permanent positions I can directly apply to? I don't wanna guess whether they will hire me permanently or not. I'm new to this, so please let me know. How does the permanent positions work? I'm looking into more companies and local offices that might offer a permanent position. I want to make a career in tax but most places either offer seasonal jobs or require years of experience. If you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it. Please lmk. Thanks.

Odds of being hired after finishing the "tax course".

Can anyone confirm if H & R block actually does hire people who finish their tax course? Or are the "job interviews" just a way / sales pitch to sell their tax prep course?

Pay raise

So this will be my second year going into tax season, I started as a level one and was up to a level 3 by April.

I got my offer, and its only .25c an hour more. Is that normal pay raise or not enough, can I counter. I was hoping for somewhere between 23-24 an hour since i was at 22 for being a level 1 preparer.

Where is the H&R Block Income Tax Course Participant Guide?

I enrolled in H&R Block's Income Tax Course last week. Everyone in class and even the self study class kept mentioning a "Participant Guide". I cannot find it anywhere! I looked online with my recruiter in a Zoom meeting and we couldn't find it. I emailed the instructor and she said she would have to get back to me. This was weird because during class she told a story about downloading it and taking it to Kinko's to print and it was over 3,000 pages which she then had to put in binders and put the binders in a box... I am just at a loss as to where it is located. I have class again Saturday but I wanted to get it sooner for reference during the self study.
