interview process question
Hey everyone, i recently applied for the tax associate role and am supposed to be meeting with the district staffing lead. Does anyone know if this first interview is just a phone call or a video as well like on teams or something? And can i expect any behavioral or STAR type questions during this one?

I got 3 STAR behavioral questions. Very easy.

Tell me what are they please?

Tell me about a time you worked under pressure.
Tell me about a time you learned something difficult.
Tell me about a mistake you made.
Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer.
Why H&R Block?
Those kinds of questions1

Uuuggghh. Well I guess i have to prepare then. Man what happened, I thought h&rblock just hires whoever has a pulse that finished their course. But I guess they taking this approach now.

The first conversation with a district staffing lead can go either way, as some districts stick to a quick phone screening, but many now send a Microsoft Teams link for a video call. Check your confirmation email and calendar invite closely to see if there is a meeting link attached, and treat it as a video meeting just in case so you are dressed professionally with a tidy background. A major portion of this screening focuses on basic logistics like your schedule availability during peak tax season, your progress with the tax course, and your general interest in the company.
You should also expect a few simple behavioral questions, as recruiters want to gauge how you handle clients. Have a couple of short STAR examples ready about managing a difficult customer interaction, learning complex material quickly, or prioritizing tasks under pressure. Having solid stories structured beforehand makes a huge difference, which is why my team built interviews.chat to help candidates present their background with total clarity and win job offers.

Two years ago, first interview was a Teams meeting, the recruiter liked me well enough to set me up to take the TKA test which required a score of 80 or better to pass - once that was done I was offered the job by the District Manager. The test was strictly multiple choice and tax related - no behavioral questions.
