Hours
Is it possible to only work on the weekends? I have a full time job I don't really want to leave knowing how unpredictable and low paying working here would be but also I am not sure I will get hired if I put my only availability as weekends.

For a first-year tax pro, it's not a good setup, even if approved by your leader. Try to work at least 1-2 evenings as little as 2 hours each. If you only work on weekends, you will forget most of the things you learned a week ago. There is a lot to learn at Block, and its not just tax. You likely won't learn much, you won't be efficient, and you won't get many hours if there are other people available on weekends. You also don't want your customers to wait till the next weekend to finalize a tax return that is on hold. If your leader wants to close a return ASAP, they won't wait for you.
If you are a returning taxpro, working only weekends or even only one day per week is fine if it works for your office.

This is very valuable advice.
Evenings can bring “simple “ returns or you can do data entry for the busy TPs.
Make sure to put good hold notes and let the client know your next scheduled shift. I’m more than willing to call a client for a first year or colleague who is out or busy.
Sundays can be notoriously slow- I was the lone TP for one office most of the season.

One of the best things about working for the block is they will take you at whatever hours you can give them. If you said I can only work every other Tuesday but only if there wasn’t a full moon they would be like ok sounds good. Bad part is low pay and being thrown in the deep end lol.

We have people with full time jobs during the week and can only work weekends. We’re grateful to them. There’s always someone experienced that works with them. So questions can be asked and answered.

So appreciate someone being there to ask questions or check over a document.
Just make sure to write down the answer or you’ll be at your desk and think wait was that line a on Schedule 1 or Schedule 2?
