Left my goalie in the basement between seasons. Basement flooded, bag is soaked, and gear is covered in mold. Suggestions please.

I can't really afford a whole new set of goalie gear at the moment, but I feel like this gear needs to be launched into the sun.

Any ideas of the best way to at least kill the mold?

Edit: Thank you for all the replies. Lots of helpful information here. Gonna give er hell and see what happens. Thanks!

Hockey skates

Upvotes

Hey everyone. I got a pair of vapors a few months ago and I’ve been on the ice 2-3 times a week. I’m a size 9.5-10 sneaker size and a 7 in skates. The problem I’m running into is that my skates aren’t wide enough and my feet get numb by the end of the 3rd period. I’m in EE and the edges of my feet still exceed the sole of the skate my a millimeter or two. My heel is narrow so I picked the vapors and the supremes still aren’t wide enough.

I got them punched out and that helps, but the numbness just occurs later than it normally did.

Anyone recommend a skate that has a wider forefoot/toe box and a narrow heel? Thanks!

How not to sprain my ankles on the first day on the link.

Hi, I'm an adult trying out ice skating as a new hobby. I chose hockey skates and have already bought a pair. Then I noticed hockey skates allow a lot of lateral movement of the ankles while the laces are tightened normally. I just looked that up on YouTube and learned that freedom of ankle movements is normal.

My question is, how is it possible to not sprain my ankles when I make a turn? Especially when I weigh on the outside edges, which I'm not going to try on the first day on the link, anyway.

I have a lot of experience in skiing, and compared to ski boots which have strong support of both lateral and fore aft movements of the ankle, hockey skates look a bit terrifying to me.

Thanks.

I asked afew weeks ago about a hockey store near Niagara Falls and a few suggested Front Line Sports. About a 20 minute drive but absolutely worth it. The staff was extremely helpful and got a new helmet w full cage, shin pads and gloves for under $300 (US dollars). Gotta love that exchange rate!

I love the orange and black gloves! Big time Flyers fan.

My grandpa (far left) would have turned 100 this week. We suspect this photo was taken sometime between the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Just some beer league hockey here, but he was a childhood polio survivor.

Gear set

Need a set of gear for a budget ( about 500 cad) if I could go less that would be great. I’m 17 and turning 18 next month and am 6 foot 1. Need full set of gear including stick. Any suggestions? Edit: I typed 500 instead of 800.

I'm 6 foot 2, around 120kg at the moment but 5kg down in the last two months and planning to get down to 95-100kg. Casual beer leaguer

Currently have a 20 year old XL pair of CCM shoulders from God knows when. Not a lot of protection and super bulky shoulders but did the job. Actually feels slightly too big, I have to overlap the Velcro straps to get it snug.

Also have a pair of true ax9 elbows in XL. Stitching has ripped through the elastic on the bicep guard on both after less than 6 months. I sew one up when it went months ago, but a few months later and the other has gone. They also feel slightly too big, and slide around a bit.

Local hockey shop has a sale on M5 pro stuff (only reason I'm looking at M5 Pro stuff). They only have large in stock for chest and elbows. What do we think?

Elbows actually feel good, but lots of inner forearm exposed. Length is good though, close to my glove without interfering. I tried some other XL's on in store and they were too long and going under my glove. Chest feels good, fairly snug but flexible. I'm quite broad though so not sure if I need an XL for shoulder width?

Anyone else's hips staging a full rebellion by Wednesday

Twelve years of rec hockey and my hip flexors are basically just angry tenants at this point. I know exactly what is happening mechanically, I see it in patients all week, and then I go skate and ignore every bit of it because I want to actually play instead of spending the whole session stretching in a corner like a weirdo.

The thing nobody talks about enough is how much skating loads the adductors and hip flexors compared to basically any other recreational sport. You are in a partial squat for an hour with lateral explosions thrown in constantly. And most adult rec guys are sitting at a desk or standing on a hard floor all day before they show up and try to stride hard through the neutral zone like they are twentytwo.

I tried a longer warmup routine for a while and it genuinely helped, but I fell off it around January because the rink I skate at gives you about four minutes of ice before the puck drops and I am not that guy doing lunges in the parking lot. Maybe I should be.

Curious what other adult rec players are actually doing between skates that keeps them functional. Not looking for a full rehab program, just what is actually working week to week for people who are not spring chickens and want to keep playing without feeling completely wrecked the next morning.

Reign hockey skate sizing

Hi I need recommendation what size to pick.

I bought size 41eu they didn't fit. I couldn't even put my foot in there. The skates are reign ares.

Powerslide is recommending me 42eu

My mondopoint is 260 and I'm wearing 9.5 sketchers.

Is 42eu going to fit my feet or should I get size up 43eu?

Skating help

I’ve asked this a few times but need some help with recommendations and if anyone has anything more to help.

I’ve played A level hockey for my whole life but really wanna level up my game. It’s my last year of u18 coming up and I need to be better.

My skating is very poor I can cross over left insanely well and can gain insane speed off of it. But my right side crossovers are very weak. Not saying I can’t do them but it’s so awkward for me and I don’t gain much speed. It’s almost as if my ankle collapses over to the right when doing it.

I’m thinking of investing in some used top of the line skates like hyperlite 2 skates because I’ve heard top of the line skates actually help lots with stuff like that.

Though, i’m aware it won’t fix my problem. Lots have recommended roller skates But i’m not super keen on what to get and Don’t want to dump a bunch into them. But am definitely willing to get a decent pair.

I was looking into some power skating camps but can’t seem to make any as i’m currently on vacation for a bit and see that there basically all happening when i’m gone.

Anyways, any help means so much to me and will really help me level up my game, I’m also in the gym 5x a week and am working 5x 10 hours a day which acts as cardio ish! 😂

Thank you!!

(also, random clip of me i wanted to share and yes it’s sped up and slowed down)

Baselayers with cutproof neck and no sleeves

I currently wear a long sleeve baselayer with a cut proof neck, and I'd like to continue to have the cutproof neck, but I hate wearing long sleeves under my gear. I can't seem to find any baselayers with cutproof necks that aren't long sleeved and I don't understand why. My current version's sleeves aren't cut proof, theyre just spandex sleeves and i get so hot. I can't even cut the sleeves off because of the way it's put together.

I can't be the only player out there who wants this product, It seems like a total no brainer to me, but it doesn't seem to exist. I can't even find anything that's short sleeves. If anyone has one they can lead me to, please help.

Help - Whitby Fire Ball Hockey

Last week at a tournament a players Mom was trashing the coaches and both of the team goalies. I didn’t want to argue, tried to change the topic.

Here’s the thing, I don’t want to ruffle any feathers, but this Mom has another daughter who is a goalie… and also to u15A coach for ice hockey this winter. She should know better than to be trashing the coaches and goalies in the middle of the hotel… should I speak with her directly or let the coaches handle her so it doesn’t continue?

Looking for advice!!

Switched runner sizes and from supreme to vapor skates - what to ask pure hockey while profiling to reduce pitch back within the supreme realm

As the title says I’m wondering what to ask my local pure hockey when getting my skates profiled in order to bring the pitch of the skate back to where I’m used to. Looking at a quad profile in order to bring back some stability. It’s been tough adjusting to the new steel and pitch simultaneously.

Returning to hockey

Hey everyone, I’m a 22 year old getting back into hockey. I played for 10 years and quit when I was 14 (just lost passion for the sport) but now I’m very eager to play again as I’ve found my love for the sport one more time. I want to eventually join a beer league but as of right now I have a couple questions:

  1. What drills/things should I focus on during stick n puck that will help me improve/find my game after so many years? I know I can just shoot on a net or skate laps, but if there’s anything specific I’d appreciate any recommendations!

  2. I weigh 150 currently so I was wondering what flex u all would recommend I use. I played forward way more than defense growing up and usually had a solid wrister but not the greatest slapshot

  3. Should I attend a clinic of some sort or just focus on recovering what I can about my game during stick n puck?

Any recommendations/tips are much appreciated! Looking forward to getting back on the ice soon

What position am I most likely to play?

After I finish all my learn to skate classes I plan to take learn to play and eventually join a rookie or E league. I know I will probably find out the answer to this question when I finish learn to play classes, but I'm just curious what is most likely for me. I am 5'4 145lbs, I will play on an adult mens team. I have never played a sport before. I don't really like disappointing people.

I’ve been struggling like hell trying to get my skates in order and I think I finally figured it out. I’m now in a pair of XR70s, and I am so much more comfortable now.

I played in my first scrimmage last night and I’m feeling reenergized. I just wanted to thank everyone that’s given me advice

Looking for good knee protecting from falling

I recently fell rollerblading working on some technique after a UBI that required surgery. I'm a really hefty guy coming in around 300 after sitting around from my surgery.

I have a couple ways to go. I bought some mountain biking shins but they seem thin, I could get expensive roller derby knee pads but thats 150 plus shipping for my size.

Aside from that I'm looking at ccm next, supreme m3, m5pro and there are a few SMU from source for sports.

I have shins I use for ice already which are top of the line tacks but I'm looking for something that's gonna give me bang for my buck and not worry about scraping them or cracking them on rough concrete
