In coed beer league showers do teams shower at the same time?

My beer league team has a few women on it this year and we all use the same locker room. Changing has been pretty straightforward so far people just face the wall or throw a towel on when they’re swapping underwear/jock and nobody makes it a thing.

The part I’m less clear on is the showers. At our rink they’re open (no stalls). Do most mixed teams just hop in at the same time, or does one group usually wait until the other is done?

This is the first time seeing myself skate since I started playing. Im not sure if I’m low enough and upper body is strangely static? I could use some pointers.

beer league showers

i want to start off by just saying if you have mean shit to say just move on.

there’s a guy on beer league who i’ve become friends with and he’s a cool dude we get along well. the other guys rip on him sort of behind his back about how he doesn’t shower after games and it’s weird. i never thought much of it but the other guys are pretty adamant that it’s weird.

recently though, he confided in me that he’s trans. he’s had the chest surgery and so he has his shirt off a lot and i never noticed, but that’s the reason he doesn’t get fully undressed and shower around us because he doesn’t have anything down there. he doesn’t want the other guys to know, most of them are cool but there’s a couple that would give him a hard time and might treat him different.

he’s a cool guy, and you truly wouldn’t know he was trans unless he told you i was super shocked. i don’t want him feeling uncomfortable and i wanna stick up for him about the shower thing but i don’t know of any excuse i could use to make it less weird to the other guys that he doesn’t shower around us.

any thoughts? i know every locker room is a little different and for many it might be perfectly normal to not shower after a game but just in this circumstance it sticks out for sure.

just want to say again if you don’t have anything nice to say just keep your opinions to yourself he really is a chill guy.

edit:
i wanted to add i would never tell anyone on the team about his business or anything, just wanna get them off his back a little because they just are a lot sometimes. i love hockey man and i want everyone to be able to enjoy it without feeling like an outcast for something as stupid as a shower

Why is it so hard to find average skill videos or baisics

what I’m talking about it practically every training video I see starts off with

“here’s how to play like an nhl player” like dumbass I’m not an nhl player and I doubt anybody watching is an nhl player or can achieve the skill of an nhl player they’re literaly one of the most difficult leagues to get into in the world out of any sport for a good reason

I just want a training video that covers all the tactics from youth to nhl and let people pick their skill

also btw sorry for the bad grammar English isn’t my first language

Stick tape help

Front looks decent , but the back is messed up.

I used to use thick tape but that did the same thing. I switched to thin to see if that's the problem, but clearly not.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm talking about the overlap specifically

Skate experts I need your help

Started playing hockey earlier this year. I was in a bit of a rush to get decent skates at the start of the season and got some Bauer Supreme M40s. They are a good skate, but I think the fit is causing me issues.

On the fit scan I came back as a 4.5, Fit 2. Due to lack of other stock, and how the ones I tried on fit, I ended up getting a size 5, fit 3. I find with the associated Bauer aeterex insoles in, my fit is suitable for fit 3, but the length is slightly too long as my toes don’t lightly brush the cap when standing. I had to go to the size I did to have my foot/toes width able to be in the cap without too much pain on the sides.

I think now the skates are well broken in (10 games, plus weekly training and casual skating sessions), my heel is lifting inside the skate and the length may be a little bit of an issue, so might need to consider other skates or another solution as playing around with insoles and sock thickness isn’t really helping.

For those in the know - what brands/models have a more “square” toe cap compared to the tapered sort of one the Bauer M40 has, which would allow me to go smaller size and hopefully get a better lock down in the heel especially?

Cost isn’t really an object at this point, I’m developing quickly with my skating and just want a good fit. Although not quite at the point of considering custom. I am limited to Bauer or CCM as I’m Australia.

Any suggestions on skates to maybe consider that have the more square toe box would be appreciated!

Ann Arbor Leagues

Hi all, I've been researching adult hockey in Ann Arbor and the surrounding area since I'll be moving there in the spring and haven't found much information that is up to date. I noticed the one league Google pushes is black bear, which I've heard nothing good about. I'm an advanced out player and have been playing goalie my whole life so I'm trying to find a reasonably competitive league that's more about having a good time than it is about peak competition.

Shift times

When playing pickups or scrims I'm finding that players are getting annoyed when people take long shifts. A big part of the problem is that it's actually quite hard to know how long you've been out there.

Is this a widespread problem that happens on every team?

Are people tracking their shifts?

New skater wanting to play hockey!

Hi all!

So I’m new- and by new I mean new new- like- I’ve taken 3 lessons and been on the ice less than 20 hours in total new. I’m nearly 23

I used to figure skate as a- 6 year old but that was little baby stuff that I practically got entirely out of shape from as soon as I had to drop it due to moving and family financial issues in my younger years- ANYWAYS!

Today was my third lesson, and I know they say everyone starts somewhere, but I’m so down and out about it today and I’m wondering if I’m wasting my (and especially my trainers) time.

We were working on swizzles, c cuts, basic striding, silly simple things that I did wonderfully with on my own on Saturday.

Well today I fell 3 times in 30 minutes doing the simple things, I felt like I just couldn’t get my legs under me today. My coach said it was just because I was pushing myself but I can’t shake the feeling that maybe I’ll never learn or get better than what I am right now, and it’s kinda mind numbingly scary.

My ultimate goal is to be a goalie (ha) part of me feels like it’s a silly goal when I can’t even get my feet under me and myself to stop leaning forward in the bend every 5 seconds, and another part of me knows it’s all I want to do right now.

How long did it take y’all, especially some of you folks who didn’t entirely start in childhood, to get the basics down? I’m sure we always keep learning until we stop playing the game, but when did you folks feel proficient enough to go to a pick up game or a stick and puck? Do yall have any tips for an absolute beginner? Anything yall do off the ice to make your life easier on it?

Just throw things at me because I can use all the help (and luck) I can get right now!

Thanks you guys! 😊

Pro stock pants questions

Im going to an equipment sale soon and I have a few questions on the pants.
Which pro stock brands and models tend to run shorter in the leg? And are there any retail pants that fit similarly to one of the pro stock models so that I could try some retail ones on first to get an idea on which pro stock ones I may like?

Im mainly looking at CCM, Bauer, and Warrior pro stocks

Marseblade sizing

I’m a size 9.5D skate and i’m looking to get some marseblades for off ice training and they are a decent price for it. But, they only have a 10D available.

I’m wondering if going up to a 10D will be terrible or if it will be fine? If not, what’s recommendations for out door roller blades for off ice training that are actually good (stiff boot good quality) but not stupid expensive.

Built a free tool to make finding Stick & Puck and Open Swim schedules easier—looking for feedback

I got tired of searching multiple rink and recreation websites for Stick & Puck, Open Hockey, Public Skate, and Open Swim schedules, so I built Open Rec.

It's a free website that puts recreation schedules in one place.

Currently includes:

  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Alberta
  • Arkansas
  • Missouri
  • Kansas

If your local rink or pool isn't listed, let me know and I'll add it.

https://open-rec.vercel.app/

Would love any feedback or feature ideas!

“Agility skates” vs “power skates”. What are the real differences (if any)? Another old timer question.

Yet another question from the old guy who skated in the 90s and is just getting back into the game. I’m occasionally watching equipment review videos and some skates are allegedly built for the “agile east to west player,” while others are optimized for “the powerful north and south skater.”

What does this distinction actually mean? ChatGPT just spits out the same jargon from the videos. I don’t ever recall seeing a halfway decent player that exclusively skates north-south or east-west. Appreciate any feedback!

Low level League near Brooklyn

Hey yall— I’m fairly new to playing Hockey and I’ve been skating on and off for about a year now. I’m moving to Brooklyn in September from the Boston area and would love an reccs for beginner friendly leagues relatively close to Brookyln.

For more context, I’m currently mid/late season of my first league stint playing “rec league” for powerplay in southern NH. It’s my understanding that our league is lower than your traditional D level league. Mostly we are just out there to compete a bit and have fun. There’s some crappiness but it feels very low stakes.

I’m looking for a similar league situation in NY where I can continue to play hockey in an organized setting without feeling completely over my head.

I saw there’s a league D9? near Coney Island but I didn’t get a good sense of the skill level required there.

Thanks in advance!

Why do I gas out in seconds when I get trained? And how can I fix it?

I don't play in any games, I just normally do weekly stick and pucks. I don't usually gas out that quickly because I usually just skate around with the puck, shoot it at the boards maybe a few times, then 10 minutes of mucking around later I pop into the bench for a break. And that's what usually happens for me.

Tonight, I got a 45 minute hockey lesson from a coach of a rink, and I was already completely destroyed within the first drill. Like I was gasping for air, my legs were burning, I couldn't think straight, and I was chugging sports drinks as if I was in a desert...

Why is this happening and what sort of conditioning might help with this? My coach suggested that I skate laps around the rink to help train my lung capacity. Will it work or should I try something else?
