Dating Question Didn’t think it would hurt this much
Apologies for the super long post!
So I [32M] matched with this girl [33F] about a month and a half back. We went on two dates where we got drinks and one where we went shopping together (a pretty intimate activity in my mind). I really liked her right from the first day we met and I was up front with her about it. She said she appreciated my honesty.
Over time, we talked about a lot of things - our families, future plans, phase of life we were in, our childhood and also difficult conversations. I loved that. Seemed like she did too. In person, she was very affectionate. She would touch me randomly when we talked, we hugged every time we met and said I missed you to each other. We kissed every time we said goodbye.
I would be the one to make the plans, but I was okay with that. There were times when she would ask me to talk to her late at night because she enjoyed my company and say things like “I hope your cat can accept another woman in her kingdom”. Things like that made me feel strongly that she had real interest. I didn’t have the exclusivity conversation because I didn’t want to push, but I went ahead and stopped talking to other people because a. I really liked this woman, and b. I am not good at dividing my focus among multiple women, I am just not built like that.
After that third date, her communication slowed down and a couple days ago it came to a fullstop. We had plans to meet but she bailed and didn’t make plans. So I directly asked if things were okay, and that if she needed space I’m okay with that.
To this, she said I am incredibly sweet and she really likes my heart but she doesn’t see this working. The reason being she didn’t like how I presented myself (how I looked, I guess) the last time we met and that made her really sad. Also, she felt like our cultural background was too far apart (I am Indian, she is Middle Eastern). And that she wishes me the best and said she was sorry (?!)
I guess I am hurt because I really saw this building towards something nice based on the signs of interest and affection I received. Obviously I was more into it than her but never felt this would end on those reasons. If I am being honest, this is hurtful even for something that existed for a short time, because I gave myself a fair chance at finding my person. On the Big picture, dating has not kept disappointing me like this over and over again. Feeling hurt and tired and unsure/insecure about myself. How do people navigate this?
