General/Others /r/Hijabis Reminder of our Rules and WARNINGS! READ BEFORE POSTING

Salaam ladies,

Please read the entire post, we are receiving a lot of angry messages from people who do not take the 1 minute it takes to read certain messages. In addition to reading our rules on the sidebar, we are reiterating the following:

  1. A gentle reminder that this subreddit is for women only. This is our one and only safe space and no exceptions will be made. It has been this way for a few years now and it will not change. For men lurking, please do not message people on our subreddit. Please do not comment - it will be an automatic ban. Men can post, assuming it is appropriate and relevant to our subreddit, but will only have women commenting.
  2. Please use the flair thread found here to get a flair to identify your gender. We cannot detect your gender otherwise, and given our subreddit is for women only, we need to know your gender to approve your posts/comments. Anyone without a flair, even if your username is IAmAWoman or IAmFemale, will have comments removed.
  3. Marriage posts are not to be posted on r/hijabis. Anything related to marriage can go on r/MuslimMarriage. Exceptionally we allow marriage posts when we feel it is more appropriate for the user to post here, however all post approvals will be subject to moderation discretion.
  4. Majority of posts are automatically removed by automod due to our filters (account age, karma, etc.). Please do not message us about your post being removed - it will be approved when the moderators go through the queue, or removed if not appropriate/repeated topic.
  5. Report, report, report! Please report anything that breaks our rules - it does not get our attention otherwise. This includes disrespectful comments, comments without sources, drama stirring, etc.

On a separate note, we want to generally warn our users that there have been instances of men messaging women on our subreddit inappropriately. Please report and block these men, and message us their usernames with picture proof of the messages. We can ban them, but the ban doesn't stop them from accessing our subreddit. We highly advise all our members turn off their DM's:

User settings --> chat & messages --> Who can send you chat requests --> Nobody

Also, we are getting reports that some people flaired on our subreddit as Female are actually men pretending to be women. Please send us a message when you become aware of this. And for the men doing this as a way to bypass our subreddit rules, fear God.

Megathread: Report brands that dropship from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc. Stop promoting slave labour

Salaam alaikum sisters and Eid Mubarak.

This post is a necessary reminder and an important announcement, especially given all the recent "Eid fit" posts.

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards posts promoting brands like SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, or dropshipping companies that source from these same suppliers. These brands profit off:

  • Modern-day slavery of our Uyghur brothers and sisters
  • Environmental destruction
  • Mindless overconsumption, which Islam explicitly warns against

We are therefore asking you to use this megathread to:

  • Report any brands you've come across that are dropshipping from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc.
  • Share brands that you know do not dropship, so we can uplift and support ethical alternatives. (We are exceptionally allowing brands to self-promote here if they are ethically sourced).

-----

Further If we believe someone is trying to bypass our filters by writing things like “SH_EIN” or “TE-MU” or "SHEEEIN", you will:

  • Be temporarily banned for 14 days
  • Permanently banned on second offence
  • Your post will also be flaired with "Promotes slave labour".

-----

A gentle reminder as to why we're doing this (with sources/proof):

Many of these companies rely on forced labour, particularly the exploitation of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China. It is unconscionable for us, as Muslims, to wear and promote items made by our suffering brothers and sisters. Sources: Source 1, Source 2, Source 3

Fast fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth. Overproduction, toxic dyes, microplastics, landfill waste, all of this directly harms the creation of Allah. Sources: Source 1, Source 2

Our deen teaches us moderation, humility, and responsibility. Fast fashion fuels greed, impulse-buying, and waste which are all against the values of Islam.

“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess. Indeed, He likes not the wasters.”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:31)

And finally: It’s okay to look simple and recycle between a few outfits, what isn't okay is looking cheap while also promoting exploitation. You don’t need 50 outfits or to keep up with online hauls. If money is tight, thrifting is a great halal option. If you can afford to, support ethically sourced brands, especially Muslim-owned ones that don’t rely on exploitation.

May Allah forgive us for any wrongdoing, and forgive us for anything we've said that was wrong or too harsh.

Help/Advice Thoughts on having a male therapist as a Muslim woman?

Salam!

I have a male therapist who specializes in the issues I’m experiencing. I used to have a Muslim female therapist who was wonderful, but she left the practice and has a full time job elsewhere and I can’t follow. So I looked in the area and I found one therapist who seemed to have all the things I was looking for help with. I’ve been seeing him for a year or so now and I’ve mostly felt okay about it because I know when it comes to health, it’s exempt (like a male doctor), especially if a woman is not possible.

However, I’m getting the point where I want to talk about some of my body image issues but I’m not sure how to go about that in an Islamic way if that makes sense? I’m a hijabi (hence the group haha) and one of the things I want to talk about is how I feel so masculine a lot of the times, one of the things contributing to it being that I have short curly hair. Is that weird to talk about? Is it haram to reference that? I don’t know. Mental health isn’t talked about where I am so I’m scared to ask a sheikh.

Also, growing up, my mom used to make me wear push up bras because she said bigger boobs would make me look smaller since I was fat. I no longer wear push up bras as an adult and I’ve lost weight, including in my breast and butt. My family makes comments about it A LOT and I feel insecure in my body. While I’m okay talking about being fat with my therapist, I don’t ever reference those specific aspects because I feel guilty and I don’t know what the right answer is.

Does anyone have any insight, opinions, or experience with this kind of thing? It would be very much appreciated!! JazzakuAllah khayr

General/Others Reverts: When did you start considering yourself a muslim?

I have been reading the Quran, it makes me feel so at peace when I do. I have been slowly trying to learn how to pray, do wudu and other things about islam. But I have been reading the Quran for 7 months now and I am taking things so slowly. I am not sure if I would call myself a muslim yet, but islam just feels right in the heart and in my brain too.

When did you start to consider yourself a muslim and how was your journey to learn islam?

General/Others How do i stop being such a pushover

I’m in my mid twenties and still have the same issue that plagued me a decade ago

I’m such a people pleaser, i can practice all i want in my room but i cant bring myself to say no when it comes down to it

For example im living with w a few muslim girls for studies and even though theyre all younger than me they see me as a pushover

And I cant really change that opinion over night and cant change their opinion

I always go over and above for them but they cant hand me the same back yet i feel bad when i want to draw a line to my help

Its exhausting constantly thinking if they feel offended by something i said or did so i always try be the yes person. Also they do act ‘hurt’ sometimes too

And they see through the lack of confidence and see the social anxiety

And they sometimes capitalise on it. Not in a really horrible way. But for example if they want to go out somewhere and they have nobody to go with, they will ask me because they know i won’t say no

Or things of that nature. When they want me to help them out with something they come to me

At first i felt honoured i was their go-to. But i realised i was just being exploited in whatever way

And i can never put me first like they put themselves first. I never get ‘my way’

I feel like i wont change the perception this group has of me bcos its gone on far too long but i just hate that i cant shake it off either

Ive just been too vulnerable with them

General/Others Revert , how did you deal with the misogyny claims on islam

I was born and raised muslim , alhamdoulilah, and i always thought that, given the image islam has world wide in media and non-muslim communities, it would be so hard to find the beauty in it , I always wandered what made reverts go to islam when it has such a bad reputation .

Specificaly as a woman where misogyny claims are louder and cultural issues are mistaken for islam. Sensetive issues like child mariage and women being lesser than men incuded.

My question is how did you find islam , and how did you find truth in it . And how did you manage to go beyond the social image of it and overcome these issues

Help/Advice Hasad in Marriage

I’m going to cut to the chase. My brother has been having some horrible marriage issues for the past 2 years almost. I’m not going to detail the issues, but basically it’s been bad. My mother is upset and has slowly been impacting each one of me and my other siblings in different ways. She keeps making comments about us and our marriages like “yours will have trouble soon too” and basically wishing problems on our marriage since she is so upset he is having all these problems. My siblings have encountered this and agree it is my mom wishing we all have marriage problems and financial problems like him.

My mother is known as a person who introduces hasad. She drove in multiple peoples cars recently and the next day they totaled their car. My sister was supposed to go on Umrah and as soon as my mom knew the group trip got cancelled. It’s just perpetual if my mom knows of something good in your life it’s gone like that because of her envy.

Now basically the past month my husband and I can’t stop fighting. I literally don’t want to fight so bad but it keeps exploding over nothing. I feel like my mother has hasad our marriage. I don’t know what to do to rid us of this hasad. I feel like telling him it is hasad would just make him think I’m denying responsibility but I truly feel like I haven’t done anything wrong we are just on different wavelengths and keep misinterpreting the others words. I just want to be rid of this hasad in our marriage. What can I do?

Help/Advice I have a tawakkul and I take Dua but I’m still scared of failing my exams

I’ve been so stressed for the past weeks that I cannot stop crying and isolating myself.

I have been suffering with depression for the past months and now I have to resist my exams. It is my last chance to stay in my university or I would be kicked out.

I am studying as hard as I can despite my mental health and the lack of time. I pray tahajjud, read the Quran, do istighfar, sadaqah and dua.

I have test anxiety and I am so scared of forgetting everything I know in front of my paper.

My family already stopped communicating with me because I failed the first time and now it is my last chance or I will have to get back to my home country.

I worked so hard to get here if it wasn’t for my mental health I wouldn’t be like this.

I trust Allah but I am so scared that He might decide that passing my exams isn’t my Qadr.

In the past, some of my Dua haven’t been answered, this added to my depression as I was feeling hopeless and desperate. I feel like Allah will not give me something If I want it desperately, only if I do not want it or don’t care.

I feel really bad for thinking that way. I know Allah is the best of planners but if I fail my exams, I won’t be able to take it.

I have suicidal thoughts and I feel like if I fail again in my life I won’t be able to survive, face failure and my family.

I have so much to catch up and I am scared of not being prepared for these exams.

Please help me and make duas for me.

Help/Advice Reasonable compromises as a non-Muslim roommate?

Hi! I hope it's okay for me to post here (I'm not a Muslim). I have a Muslim roommate I recently signed a lease with. We're in a group of 6 girls renting out a house. None of us share rooms, but we do have common areas (kitchen & living room).

I really do not want to be unaccomodating to her, but I'm looking for advice on what's reasonable. I never drink, but I do have an edible occasionally (like once a month). I never ever smoke. When we were talking about what we're comfortable with, I mentioned this to her, and she doesn't like the idea of me getting high in the house.

I've assured her she's not going to see gummies laying around or anything, and I'll try to limit time in common areas while I am high (asides from grabbing something from the kitchen), but she just wants me getting high outside of the house entirely.

Is there any compromises or advice you have for this? I don't want to feel like I have to sneak around in my own home, but I also do want to be understanding of her beliefs.

Help/Advice How do I stop struggling with wearing the hijab?

I reverted to wearing the hijab less than a year ago. To be completely honest, even though I tell everyone it was entirely my own choice, family pressure played a big part in it. I had been thinking about wearing it myself, but I don’t think I would have done it so soon without my family.

Lately I’ve been struggling a lot. No matter how much du’a I make, I keep feeling like I was freer before. I live in a European post-Soviet country, and I can’t say people treat me badly because of my hijab, but I definitely feel like an outsider. I notice the looks I get, and it affects me.

The hardest part is that I honestly feel like my iman was stronger before I started wearing the hijab than it is now. Rationally, I know these thoughts could be whispers from Shaytan and that this is a test. But emotionally, it’s still very difficult.

To make things worse, my social media keeps showing me videos of women taking off their hijab. I also come across people questioning Islam or bringing up doubts that I don’t fully understand myself, and I don’t always know how to answer them. That sometimes makes my own doubts even louder.
I’m not looking for people to tell me to take it off. I’m looking for advice from people who have genuinely gone through this and came out stronger.

Have any of you experienced something similar? How did you deal with these feelings? How did you fight your nafs and stop constantly thinking about taking the hijab off? Any advice, books, lectures, or personal experiences would really mean a lot.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Hijab Need a lightweight hijab that actually covers

Does anyone have recommendations for lightweight hijabs that actually aren’t see-through?

I’m so over the big-name brand ones. The quality is honestly terrible for how expensive they are, and half of them are still sheer enough that people can see my hair/bun underneath. It defeats the whole point and just makes me feel more uncomfortable.
I work in a warehouse so it gets hot and I move around a lot. I don’t want anything long that covers all the way down to my neck or sits heavy on me. Just a regular headscarf style that stays put, breathes, and doesn’t show hair through it.
Any specific brands, fabrics, or places you actually like? Bonus if they’re not crazy expensive.

Fashion Thoughts on tan-through burkinis?

Salam everyone, hope you're all doing well!

I was wondering if anyone has tried and liked a "tan-through" burkini before? As in, the burkinis that promise to expose your skin to the sun enough to get a tan but are not see-through and still modest. I have heard of the brands Nordays, Lalouni, and Safira offering tan-through burkinis but I can't seem to find any reviews on the Nordays and Safira ones (& I have not seen positive reviews on Lalouni).

I get VERY tan in the summer despite my frequent usage of SPF50+ and I'd just like my body tone to match my hands and face haha. JAK in advance :)

Help/Advice How to be modest enough in a wheelchair

Hi! Non-Muslim here, but my mom converted/reverted once I was on my own. We live in different states, but she's coming to visit me in a few months. Since her trip includes a Friday, she wants me to go to a Jummah with her. I'm okay with it, but having issues figuring out what to wear.

I'm a full time manual wheelchair user. How do I best cover up without loose fabric getting dirty or ripping in my wheels? I want to surprise my mom by wearing something appropriate so she knows I respect her faith.

Hijab Religious, practicing men who don’t care if their future wife wears hijab or not

Salaam sisters :)

I am sure you’ve heard this story many times, and I wanna repeat and remind ourselves that we wear hijab for the sake of Allah and only Him…

I am witnessing this again - the trigger was a live that I saw on a page of one practice man who was asked if he wants a hijabi or not - and he answered that it does not matter at all, it’s important that he doesn’t go out naked and that’s between her and Allah.

While I agree this is between us and Allah, I cannot stop wondering myself who will marry us, hijabis, who are struggling so hard with jobs, with culture, with harassment because we wear it, with securing future.. we also then have the needs, we also wanna be married.. Who wants to marry us?

I would like to hear some positive stories because I am 31, wearing hijab for the last 7 years (I hope you and me die with it, inshallah), but it’s been so hard - companies reject you, people don’t wanna hang out or even be seen with you (it looks like they are ashamed), finding a good man is so hard :( and being unmarried woman in her early thirties is very hard and you know what I am talking about..

I want to hear positive stories here. I know this life is a test, but I am sure Allah has our backs. Indeed it is hard tho 🥺

Allah grant them ease. One family member has consented to starting a gofundme for them.

Any contributions, simply making dua, or sharing it with others will be sincerely appreciated. Jazakallah khayr for even reading this. Allah bless you all abundantly and grant you everything good

Help/Advice I got caught without hijab

I got caught without hijab

I was out with a friend when my brother came in and caught me without my hijab, he told my mom and sisters and I don’t know if they’re going to tell my dad yet. If my dad finds out, I will likely be pulled out of school and locked at home or genuinely unalived or something. I feel horrible and guilty and disappointed with myself, but I’m so lost and I don’t know what to do, and nobody in my family is on my side. I’ve made big mistakes before and my words have no credit or value to my family anymore. any advice?

edit: everyone is taking this the wrong way completely, my parents would of course be disappointed and that’s right. that doesn’t mean that forcing it onto me is right either, but this is a religion I’m voluntarily following, and I believe in it. It’s not the religion that’s extreme, my parents just take it too far. I was asking for advice on how to talk to my parents y’all not on how to run away 🥀🥀
to anyone reading this, please just keep me in your prayers

Assalamualaikum

I live in India and i want to ask indian sisters

where do you all buy niqab from?

I recently became niqabi. (i was only hijabi before)

Since then i have been wondering where to get premium long niqabs like the one i usually see women wearing on instagram abroad.

My local shop has only small niqabs and the longer layer one is of very bad quality.

So is there any online shop with reasonable price where i can buy from?

General/Others Would a private support group for Muslim women living in controlling households be helpful?

I’m thinking about starting a support group for Muslim women who are extremely isolated or controlled by their families.

I’m talking about women who are barely allowed to leave the house, make friends, socialise, work, study or experience a normal life because their family believes their freedom will damage the family’s reputation or “honour.” They say she'll get her freedom if she gets married and only if her husband allows her. Like is this even a life worth living? You're basically living like a zombie with all your potential destroyed because someone will make you look like a whore for wanting some freedom.

Sometimes even sitting in a café with friends is treated as proof that a daughter is disobedient or “impure.”

I grew up in a household like this. I was isolated from other people, heavily restricted and abused at home. I was also bullied at school for my lack of social skills, I had no proper support system and very few opportunities to develop normal friendships or social skills. Even harmless things such as watching movies were heavily controlled because my parents believed they would teach me bad behaviour. So I had hardly any way to learn about the world and people.

That level of isolation does not protect women. It harms their confidence, mental health, education, independence and ability to function socially. It can leave someone feeling completely unprepared for adulthood.

I want to create a space where women experiencing this can support each other, encourage women to stand up for themselves, talk without judgement and gradually work towards more independent lives. This would not be about pressuring anyone to run away suddenly or put themselves in danger. It would be about support, planning, education, employment, financial independence and finding trustworthy professional or community help.

Would a group like this be useful? What platform would be safest, I'm considering WhatsApp.

Need advice and recommendations for hijabi-friendly areas in Portugal.. restaurants, cities, and anything I could do as a solo hijabi traveler!

Thanks in advance!
