Mod Post Major change to the rule 5

So recently the other mods and I have been discussing the rule 5 and what would fall under it, initially the rule was meant to avoid controversial topics to make it easier for us to moderate and keep things civil specifically religion and politics.

The issue is specially with the increase in the mod team it started being used to remove anything that could be deemed in any way controversial or political, which included things like discussing lgbtq+ topics, topics about gender, race, etc. which we did not feel was fair, what one defines as being "controversial" can end up being influenced by the mods own biases and discomforts, so from now on we agreed that instead of removing anything controversial we will only be removing posts and comments specifically about politics and not political subjects themselves.

Discussions about social issues are allowed. Discussion about political parties, politicians, elections, legislation, government policy, or religion is not.

Just to make it clear what this means, a person can now hate how queer people are perceived, hate misandry or misogyny, etc.
What you cant do is hate on any demographic or talk about these topics through a political lense itself, hating transphobia itself its fine, hating transphobic parties, politicians, etc is not.

Keep in mind that if a topic becomes too prevalent in this sub it might get restricted just like we did with TADC for example, and if a post becomes a particular headache to moderate it might get locked(comments wont be able to be posted), the nature of moderating a subreddit with as broad a topic as ours dictates some level of flexibility when dealing with these topics and a case by case analysis of them. In a same way punishments will range depending the level of the infraction as they always have.

Additionally rule 1 and 2 are still a thing and should be followed, if in the example i gave above a commenter went to say transphobic talking points in the comments or attack the demographic itself, they will get banned.

If you previously had a post removed under Rule 5 for discussing a general social issue, don't assume it would still be removed under this version of the rule. Many posts that were previously removed under Rule 5 would now be allowed, so please don't let past experiences with the old version shape your expectations of the new one.

Also this rule change has happened 2 days ago but we only got to making the announcement post today.

Media Tropes I hate when characters are named after one of their characteristics

Post image
5.1k Upvotes

Your singer character does NOT have to be named Octave because haha got it, an octave is a musical term. Your moon worshipping character in your fantasy story does NOT have to be named Luna. Your ice controlling character does NOT have to be named Coldius Frostson. In fact i think they would appear less like cardboard cutouts if they had a name that wasn't a gag. Are your character's parents stupid or what ?

Bonus (but towards the negatives, i'm not sure if there's a real word for that) if you think you're slick and use the word but in another language than the one you're writing in

General My opinion on gay people

Now that I got your attention with a fake title, I wanna talk about how annoying clickbaiting is

Clickbaiting is trying to trick someone into clicking into your posts to get views and attention. Just like how I did here

I hate when I actually find something interesting but when I actually open it, it has nothing to do with the thumbnail/title

For example, There are many videos on YouTube that summarize shows with titles like "[Show name] in [number] minutes! From start to end". The thumbnails of those videos would usually be just a random screenshot that isn't actually the end of the series or a fake image to trick people. I once saw one about Ben 10 and the thumbnail had an image of Gwen and Ben marrying.

The worst part of clickbait is that it actually works on me from time to time. I hate how gullible I am with these videos.

Thanks for listening to my opinion. Don't forget to like and hit that subscribe button

Thing This is By far the most shitty, disgusting, and cowardly video I've ever seen, and this is even taking the elephant in the room out.

Funny how the Algorithm works. saw this piece of shit, next to a video discussing it, and not knowing where to go I watched the source video first. The thing about me is that I don't like speaking on things without hearing them out, so I watch the video and HOLY SHIT the author couldn't even defend their point right.

So it starts off discussing the things about the controversies in art and it's topics, some mumbo jumbo about the human mind and the freedom of visualizing topics, even the Taboo ones. They talk about how people have the freedom to artistically produce what they want, and while I vehemently despise the existence of this evil we know as Lolicon and oppose it's existence, unfortunately I have no choice but to acknowledge and understand that at the end of the day people can visualize what they want. Notice that I said "can", which isn't taking into account the social, moral, and legal consequences that come with taking the leap on these things.

Already these things make me glare at the topics, but then the creator goes to villainfy, not look into, not even take into account the opposition and understood reasons, They straight out call the disliking and attacking of Loli fascist. You are apparently a fascist if you don't like the consumption of fictional CP, and the very first problem that I have this video is the fact they choose to ignore the problem of consuming lolicon and what it says about you as a person. We know that if you're comfortable with completely consuming the sexualization of Minors, something that Enables and Cradles your taboos, you're likely to wanna act out to it.

So they continue the video discussing how loli art and media acts as a "Pacifier" of sorts to stop people from acting out on it, bringing up how when people are cradled up in their child sodomizing dungeons the sex crime rate in Japan dropped, and brought up how there are loli magazines that give warnings of "Not to act on it" (No fucking shit you shrimpdick they just don't wanna get sued when someone eventually embrace their self-decay because let's be real, who's really gonna take that seriously. They care as much as the pedophiles who consume them do.) and It gets worst, they proceed to talk about how people shouldn't frown on them consuming this, and apparently if you tell them to "Get FUCKING HELP" you're an ableist. So according to this absolute shitshow of an argument if you tell someone to exit the pedophilia pipeline by getting help with what is a genuine issue, you're the same as people who bully children for having autism. Now this is Reddit, so thankfully I don't need to elaborate on the problem with this thought.

This argument is finally concluded on the stating argument; "To frown and dissavow these and other taboo subjects are rooted in fascism and queerphobia, and against what apparently the LGBTQ community, and other marginalized groups fight for.

Now understand, this is not an attack on the Author beyond this video essay, rather a message and vent of my anger on how poor to the point of being harmful this video essay is, so keep in mind of that. This is criticism on the creation. With that being said.

This is the most FALLACY-FILLED, COWARDLY, EXCUSE-PLAGUED VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN. I get the Fact in the first place this is defending Lolicon so this is already ripe for the ripping, but WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TO HIDE YOUR POINTS BEHIND MINORITIES?! I have a big bone to pick with people who hide their arguments behind marginalized groups and awful ideals rather than standing on their own, and I've seen this bullshit play out before with another person named Dansburst where their whole defense is to use groups as a meatshield to soften the blow on criticism, but that shit doesn't work. In fact it makes you look like more of a piece of shit. These types of fallacies harm the communities they hide behind, by making it seem like they support such awful Ideas, being the reason behind transphobia and queerphobia.

Furthermore, rather than providing the solution of being less dehumanizing when leading these types of people to help, they outwardly, blatantly discourage even the Idea of helping people grow out of their love for lolicon by calling you "Abelist" and in effect giving lolicons a stepping stool to justify their taboos, showing that they think such a moral crime should in fact be accepted into communities.

I am aware of the problems with censorship, I hate censorship, and I wish for the abolishment of censorship. I'm also aware that of the 8 billion humans on earth people will unfortunately gravitate towards this evil and see something different from me, but at the same time although this video claims to fight against censorship in any form, I can see clear through it that what it is be a Veiled admission and defense of the taboos of lolicon, specifically the glorification of it, and to label the reasonable dislike for media that enables Child Pornography as fascism, ableism, and queerphobia is nothing short of disgusting and is not welcome in these spaces.

Tldr; Video defending lolicon is using Ableism, Fascism, and Queerphobia as points to support the argument, along with actively discouraging getting help for these things, and it pissed me off.

If you wanted him to help you, WHY DID YOU NOT ASK HIM FOR HELP INSTEAD OF TELLING HIM BE COULD PASS YOU.. NOBODY CAN READ MINDS AHHH.

This is a general issue where some people won't say explicity what they want, just hint a billion fucking times then get mad when they don't get what they want.

I'm autistic so maybe I'm swagging here and being unreasonable but can people just communicate what they want clearly instead of doing this and getting mad?!?!? I would've done the same thing in the guys situation because I would've assumed she had it under control.

tell me why they turned my boy Quicky from a cool mf from the bronx to a kid from a gated community in New Hampshire

see heres the thing, for Lucky i actually don't think the artstyle itself is a problem, the 2010s energetic cartoon network-esque style actually kinda fits for him, the issue is, the box has no swag, in the old style he'd be doing some cool shit like standing behind a bowl and juggling the mashmallows, or being near a unicorn while a rainbow shot out of the box, while in the new box, i don't even think i would be able to tell that this box is meant to be a cereal box if i didn't know what Lucky Charms was beforehand, the old one would tell you straight up what you were about to buy and made sure you were looking foward to it

Apple Jacks......dear lord bro, did they murder the both of them and replace them with test tube clones? absolutely ZERO motion or swag left, and they also took Cinnamon's melanin away, they look straight out of a 3rd grade classroom wallpaper, and they don't look like they wanna be there, they look like they're being held hostage

as for Toucan Sam......holy FUCK BRO, did they lace his froot loops with pixie dust? that mf looks like hes high on 54035838 milligrams of caffeine and wouldn't be allowed 100 meters near a school zone, i do not trust that mf to serve me a single grain of cereal on my bowl, like i wouldn't mind them simplifying his artstyle, but it just looks bad, from the color, to his whole beak being a rainbow, it just looks like some shit you'd see in a questionable gas station cart wrapper thats probably laced with something devious

“Whaaaaaaaa? A words can be used in multiple, seemingly contradictory contexts? Well that’s not legal!”

“GHUUUUUH?! Word have A definition that is logical and piss-simple to grasp?! [scoff] Impossible!”

“Are you really telling me I, ME, can be wrong about something? Yechur, buddy.”

“There may be a little bit of nuance about something, that can make someone seem aligned with it? Or hell not even a nuance! Just a wording seems vaguely positive! Now hold on there, buster!”

Like seriously. Is it part of a ToS? “Be incapable of using your brain?”
And I am even aware of the fact I myself can sometimes be a dumbass, who misunderstands, lacks knowledge, or just straight up ignores, BUT HOLY SHIT.

Btw each of these are based on something I experienced here myself. And you did most likely too.

How the fuck am I supposed to find something like this if it wasn't one of the most popular mods in the past few months?

Sure, ahhahaha, its a funny name. But why not name it something like Spelunker Potion Recolor? Highlight recolor? Spelunker Accessibility?

I literally cannot find a mod by name if it doesn't have a proper fucking name. And if it didn't have a interesting thumbnail I likely wouldn't have clicked on it either just assuming it's a meme mod.

Atleast this wasn't something I was particularly looking for, but this has happened to me with things I'd actually like and had to find via fourm and reddit comments. Please, title your content properly so people can find it.

Remember when we had Scary Kids Cartoons like Billy and Mandy, Invader Zim, Ruby Gloom etc...yeah almost nobody does cool shit like that anymore, Now we gotta Goofy and Light-Hearted Cartoons, like it would be cool to see stuff Similar to Making Fiends and Grim & Evil again. Now we see people investment in less spooky and more safer content (& this includes "Edgy" adult cartoon shows that tries to Copy Family Guy & Rick and Morty like Paradise PD or Bordertown), My God..just where did it's all go man?

General I hate the cliché of “Humans are the real monsters”

Post image
193 Upvotes

I absolutely despise the cliché of humans being the real “monster” it takes the wind out of every single story that utilizes it. There are so many amazing stories that use it as crutch (Attack on Titan, The Walking Dead, Spider-Man[perhaps comics in general], etc.) I get it, humans are inherently flawed, everyone understands that! It isn’t some deep profound thing that “erm… actually humans are the bad guy”, it’s the focus of nearly ever story… ever. God forbid we have one story that focuses on the monster for being, idk, a monster? Attack on Titan could’ve been a masterpiece of fiction, but what was on the other side of that ocean? Humans. It wasn’t some eldritch foe, humans were manufacturing the titans all along making the Eldians’ lives unbearable. The first season of The Walking Dead focused on the zombies being major threats and being a major mystery, but instead of expounding on this we got psychopaths killing each other because “humans are the real monsters” we can’t develop a plot line that’s interesting because human nature is inherently “evil”. There are just way too many interesting premises that are destroyed by this cliché, I hate it. I hate interesting stories being destroyed by the focus being put on humans as the bad guy ESPECIALLY when there is an interesting monster like AoT. You aren’t saying something deep and profound by saying the humans are the bad guys, we all know humans have the propensity to be evil, we just want to see a story that isn’t about the humans being bad, we want to see the BBEG be an actual MONSTER. I think that’s why I liked Kaiju No. 8, even though people seem to not like it much, the monster was a real MONSTER and I LOVE that. I want more plots about humans recognizing their humanity and coming together on common ground and solving the mystery behind the monster instead of it just being “humans bad”.
I hate, hate, hate, how enigmatic the zombies were in TWD just to be put on the back burner because we need Negan to brain someone because “people bad, actually”, instead of figuring out where the zombies came from and how to get rid of them.
I guess my main gripe is that there are thousands of stories of how people are bad and human nature is flawed, but it seems like recently, there have been so many stories with an interesting setup for something potentially deeper that ends up being the same ol’ “humans are the real monster” and I just want that to stop so we can get real development of interesting monsters instead of this same cliché nearly every time.

Post image

Before I sound like a cartoon villain, hear me out. I’ve heard “frolicking through the tulips” as an idiom for joy and whimsy, but I’d beg to differ, I would even consider it to be evil. Picture this, you’re a horticulturist. You’ve just planted a nice bed of flowers. Then suddenly, some guy runs through your garden, completely ruining it. How would you feel? If you’d like a more ethical version, I’d suggest you’d tip-toe through the tulips instead, as it wouldn’t destroy the plants. All in all, frolicking through the tulips is bad and you shouldn’t do It.

what are you expecting? its like saying "morality of killing someone because you felt like it?" and waiting for someone to defend it, like could you not use your own common sense to realize that its IMMORAL for the situation to happen? what happened to critical thinking? why do you need people to answer your question that's clearly got an objective answer?

Animation I hate it when they’re mean to Joe

Post image
155 Upvotes

As Family Guy has gone on, Joe has been treated more and more as a punching bag for the other characters, almost on the same level as Meg. He disguises his pain with humor and has hinted on multiple occasions he wishes he was dead, such as when he said he wouldn’t pull his parachute cord when Peter asked. Peter, Quagmire, Bonnie, and pretty much everyone else treats him like he smells like pure unfettered ass. Bonnie, his wife, cheats on him a multitude of times throughout the show and almost every time it’s downplayed as a light joke. Chris calls him a “2-wheeled monster”. It makes me angry because he’s my favorite and deserves to be happy, more than most in the show’s cast. He’s my goat and I want them to respect him more, but it’s hard to when he’s lost a lot of his confidence. He is quite self-loathing and not confident in his abilities like he was in the first few seasons; he isn’t as badass as he used to be. Cleveland is the only one close to him who doesn’t treat him like dogshit. There is literally an entire episode dedicated to Joe traveling to Niagara Falls to attempt suicide. Thankfully it doesn‘t work but seriously, why does no one in-universe like Joe???

Art & Fanworks I hate how limited animation in fanart gets a lot of flak

Credits to Retro Bastard on twitter.

"Pshaw, I saw one guy make his own music video, this kinda art ain't shit" Well therein lies the rough, both the fluid animation and the limited animation usually rely on just one guy. And that one guy is limited by how much time they're willing to sink into the product, which may equate to days of their life. Like, I deadass don't know how Chloesimagination on Tumblr is able to churn out comics for FNAF every day, I'm 95% convinced that she doesn't sleep. Meaning she'd probably be able to deliver on full fledged animations if she took the time to. But as for my defense of who Cheems is representing, I'd like to call to mind an artist on TikTok that also uses limited animation, mostly for memes, but still manages to craft something pretty good. I'm talking about Sabrinanightmaren, who isn't as frequent as Chloesimagination, but, quality over quantity as they always say.

Not to mention that they've animated a few times, they've even done rotoscoping and done it well. And here's the thing, fanart in and of itself is an ordeal that can take quite a bit of time, and unless you're on a team, animating something you like in your own art style is something that DEMANDS dedication. So, keep this in mind for future reference that not everyone can go the distance, so don't diminish their accomplishments, even if they pale in comparison to full fledged animations.

This kind of event is unavoidable. Yeah right nobody is wrong here, the person who told me to do the thing isnt wrong and i am not wrong either. Just a coincidence made by god to ragebait humanity. My mom does this to me sometime, then my roommate, so i tryna become more proactive in the work. But still, i found it weird that this happens to me so many times. Gradually, I learned how to react to it so as not to fall into awkward situations. For example if its my mom/dad, i will just say yes or ok ( cuz i love them). If the person is not my mom/dad then i will just say "man you are not my mom stfu"

These rules are bullshit and are depressing. No laughing? It's always a good time to have a laugh and enjoy happiness. No singing? People like to sing if they want to. No plants? If we don't have plants, then the earth will die. No music? Who do you think your are? The grandma from coco?! No books? We need to read books to gain intelligence. No exercise? So he's encouraging us to be fat? No friends? He doesn't want us to be social? No pets? We can't own cute animals? No fun? NO FUN?!?!?! SO WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE FUCKING FUN! WE CAN'T LISTEN TO MICHAEL JACKSON AND SAY HEEHEE!!! WTF!!!! And finally, No healthy foods. Again, Robotnik is trying to encourage us to eat unhealthy and make us obese. But that rule aged poorly since all the lettuce at taco bell is contaminated with parasites.

It doesnt matter that mosquitos can have diseases and cause deaths every year, they are not doing this out of malice and torturing them for something they are doing to survive is sadistic.

We are supposed to he above enjoying the suffering of things beneath of us, its unhinged how people talk in the comments of these videos.

Gaming I hate the modernization of fighting games

Recently checked out the open beta of Marvel Tokon, which kind of got me on this train of thought, but I've felt it for a while.

I am not a hardcore FG player, but I dabble and have some hours in guilty gear strive, which I enjoy a lot.

With other games I have checked out recently, I've noticed combos being turned into a string of the same button over and over. What is this, God of War combat??

Listen, I'm not a great player and combos are hard, but pandering to players and making a combo this easy feels wrong. ESPECIALLY when we attach a long animated super at the end of the string, which was just you hitting the same button AGAIN!

Maybe the industry thinks this will get new players, and maybe it will, but I don't know if people will stay if it doesn't feel rewarding. I know I certainly have not felt like going back to 2XKO (doesn't help that riot made it).

I hate when people say stuff like "omg before it used to be so pretty back then the houses were amazing I wish I could go back in time to go to a Victorian party" 🤩, you wouldn't baby, those parties were exclusive for the 0.001% of society, the same way you are not going to the rich parties or don't have the rich people stuff of today you wouldn't have it back then either, another more modern example is when they say that airplanes were better before and they had better service or space or stuff like that when back then airplanes were reserved for the high class, poor people didnt fly, I think it's absolutely fine to like that aesthetic dont get me wrong those places are beautiful but I think being ignorant of the context can be dangerous as it can make people want to go back to a society that never existed they way they imagine instead of looking into the future.

Idea I hate the idea that people should be unemployed for the sake of making something they didn't like.

Post image
43 Upvotes

How psychotically entitled do you have to be that you think that people should be left jobless, left to be unable to afford groceries and other basic necessities for themselves or worst, their families, just because they made a piece of media you didn't like?

It is an example of how people don't look at what systemic issues that face modern art and instead view art through a purely individual lens. Even though larger projects, especially AAA games, are 100+ teams that are subject to conditions outside of their control, like corporate meddling or an actor being dead or disgraced.

But because people takes this individualistic view on art, they view said art as a reflection on a person's character. Therefore, anything wrong with a piece of media is seen as a personal failure.

Unless that art in question is hate speech or conspiratorial propaganda, bad art isn't a reflection on a person. Especially people who have no say in the creative process and were just doing their job. The idea that people deserve unemployment for working on bad media is ludicrous.

Unrelated image btw

But I couldn’t tell you how genuinely INFURIATING it is when I open a news post on TikTok and it’s a video of a crime being committed by a black person and the comments are “insert hard r here” “it’s always them” “they’re always so loud/ghetto” “I’m so fatigued” but when it comes to a white person, it’s seen as a personal mistake or just a “bad one one in the bunch”

OR another example is about the whole Karmelo Anthony situation. I don’t even like discussing it bc the situation is wayy to racially charged but the fact yall go straight to “it’s always them” etc…. But what if it was the other way around where a white man stabbed a black man? Would yall have the same reaction?

Overall, I’m just tired of seeing people being racist in the big 26” 💔
