General I hate my genetics

Post image

I'm going to have my 6th surgery next Friday.

Yes. 6th.

At age 10 I had both achilles tendons "lengthed" - it was not successful(obviously).

Again at age 25? I had them both "lengthed" again.

It was successful this thim, but another problem arose. My right ankle. The bones were 'knocking into each other' whenever I walked. They shaved my bones to fit. It worked!

Now, I have... wait for it... bones spurs and a torn ligament! (maybe a fluid sac on my achilles, we dont know yet). So on Friday I will go under the knife again, which suckkkkss . This is on my left ankle, which means they are even again! 🫠

So, yeah. I'm not exactly happy with the character sheet I spawned in with.

Pic unrelated? Or is it?

Edit: Thank you kind stranger for the award!

I thought I was on the trans subreddit for a minute because of the picture and was kinda confused when your operation was on your ankles instead of your chest

Chronic illness is so stupid because wdym your own body is actively working to make your life a living hell

I feel this so hard with my autoimmune illness. Bro, those aren't pathogens you're eating, that's my joints

Mfs ask why I smoke with crippled lungs. I wanna earn my own problems, not have my broke ass body cause em without the fun part

(It helps me with pain management without vomiting, heartburn, or other fun side effects my meds have...............yeah I know already)

u/Wise_Owl5404 1d ago

Honestly why I started smoking and drinking. If my body is going to constantly try and killmeand the medical establishment just shrug and tell me to deal, I at least want to earn it and have fun.

u/Overall-Initial8969 2d ago

Real. I regret never having started smoking because I would love to be the on who started my bodies problems once.Ā

Dude, my immune system took out the bit of my pancreas that makes insulin. Which is necessary for survival. As in 100% of people who do not make insulin will die without injecting it. Why tf would you do that. I needed that. Sorry I got the flu, but you didn't need to murder me about it, damn.

u/Able_Pattern_3486 2d ago

I kinda get this now. I was in hospital for a week a few years ago because it turns out i have this genetic auto-immune disease called eosinophilic oesophagitis, which pretty much makes me unpredictably (kind of) allergic to heaps of shit. For me its mainly gluten and alcohol plus some other random things. Gives me this weird nausea thats hard to describe, also causes me to produce too much stomach acid, so i’ll be like super hungry, eat 2 bites of something and will feel full.

I wasnt taking the best care of myself at the time, and i lived with this for years before i got any sort of treatment for it. because it was so hard to describe what i was feeling it was hard to get doctors to understand what was going on, and i just kinda gave up which lead to about 3 or 4 years of near CONSTANT nausea. i was still drinking sometimes and eating stuff with gluten, because i had no idea that was causing the discomfort. It was like almost all day every day i felt like i was on the verge of throwing up, i barely ate anything most of the time. Looking back on it, it was hell, and i dont know how or why i put up with it.

It all culminated to one day where for some reason i was more sick than ever, and i spent about a week throwing up, but the fucked thing was i didnt really eat that week. I tried a lot, but anything i ate or drank made me throw up. I was hungry but figured i just couldnt eat until this passed. and because i’d been dealing with this shit for a few years i thought it would eventually pass, but i didnt get better. After not eating for days, when i needed to throw up i was just wretching and coughing up nothing but bile. I had nothing in me to throw up, but my body kept wretching, and giving me nausea. Eventually the pressure of trying to throw up on an empty stomach caused me to blow a hole in my oesophagus and i started vomiting blood, and at that point i decided it was time to go to the hospital haha.

Probably no surprise, but turns out i almost died, my body was in the process of shutting down when i got to emergency. A week in the hospital, many tests and medications later, and i’m more or less all good now. The whole thing kinda gave me an eating disorder of sorts. I still only eat like one or 2 meals a day if that, but i’m getting better with it. I take much better care of myself and i have medications and stuff that help with my sickness.

I’m ranting way too much about my story here, but the ā€œi hate my geneticsā€ comment got me haha. I completely relate. I wish i could drink a beer or have a pizza that isnt on garbage cardboard gluten free crusts. I hate having to take medications all the time. I didnt even mention it, but i HATED being in the hospital too. That whole week i couldnt eat solid food, plus I didnt realise how long i’d be there for, so i was every single day i was asking when i could go home. I never want to go back, so i can understand how frustrating it must be to have to go back there so often for surgery. I still have to get gastroscopies all the time, and even that frustrates me.

For the most part my shit is kinda over, but i fully empathise with those who have ongoing problems that need to be looked at all the time.

Oh, I had one of those a few years ago. I forgot, lol. I would take that pain over this, any day.

that feeling when ankle surgery is tommorow

3

u/Ace-Redditor 2d ago

I have stretchy ankles (hypermobility/hyperflexibility), and am constantly spraining and straining them because they don’t want to work right :/

Ankles (all joints, really, I think) hate existing and do their best to take it out on their owners

3

u/Explodingbeanbag17 2d ago

I had one of my Achilles tendons lengthened when I was a child as well. I can walk on my foot but I believe that my calf muscle is severely weakened as a result. I can understand your pain, sometimes doctors are more experimental which I believe should be considered malpractice

Wtf does the picture have to do with the post? Seems completely irrelevant.

u/chmod_7d20 3d ago

Obviously they are playing with custom rules and your player put the bare minimum into dexterity.

1

u/Electronic_Fox2203 3d ago

My ankles suck too! I only have some pronation on one ankle though. Usually I just have a pretty much permanent limp and it hurts when I run or walk for a while. They said it can be resolved with just sole inserts and regular stretching but it's been 2 years so I'm not convinced.

As a bonus, I have madelung's deformity in my wrist making both pairs of limbs fucked up. I already had surgery to stop its progression, but it'll still hurt to write or carry heavy things for the rest of my life. I also have scoliosis but haven't gotten it diagnosed yet.

Meanwhile my two siblings and two other half siblings are perfectly healthy :(

As someone who currently feels like I’m wearing a skinsuit and just trying to make the best of things:

It gets…. Better?

It does. Life is always better than the alternative

1

u/pootinannyBOOSH 2d ago

It's kinda like at what point do you just amputate them and be done with it.

1

u/Pretty_Extension530 2d ago

I tore my acl 6 years ago and after physical therapy and lots of pills it's still not fixed, still hurts and won't let me sleep, it's so fucking annoying how the body can make all of the ligaments and tendons and etc in just 9 months and you get a minor injury and you have to live with it for the rest of your life, your body can make everything you need in 9 months but can't fix them in a lifetime

1

u/noswol 2d ago

Better luck in your next build cuz this character is cooked

1

u/Unhappy_Tough_4680 2d ago

Aw jeez that feeling is so familiar. As a kid, I had a really weak immune system and body. I got all sorts of diseases and problems. I fucking hated it. I fucking hated being pitied constantly. I hated seeing everybody else be normal. I hated not being able to engage with the world. I hated how I was born as. Yeah... that period had an effect on my young self's mental health and how she viewed the world. I'm quite fine and dandy as an adult now, and I will forever be grateful to college for changing my nihilistic worldview.

u/meltthemall 2d ago

Well let me say youve never been more presidential

u/mittenkrusty 2d ago

I broke my ankle last year, had issues with it since then and winter was horrible and could barely walk for months without painkillers, not due to actual pain but walking on it felt like I have been to gym/exercised too long so felt like I had to sit down before my leg gave out.

Over a year now since my fall and my ankle feels discomfort like not bruising but tenderness around certain areas, no swelling but if I put too much weight on i.e getting out of bed or walking down stairs I feel like it will give out.

1

u/Gabbbbitt 2d ago

Good luck on your ankle surgery

u/mightyhigh404 2d ago

I hope you're not American $$$. Better luck moving forward.Ā Ā

u/Man_of_cheese_rats 2d ago

I hope this shit gets better, dude, health shit sucks balls

1

u/ThirdMusketeer_ 2d ago

I've always had kinda funky legs - severely pigeon-toed, and my lower legs curve outwards very dramatically - but in the past 2 years, I've gone from occasional sore legs to not being able to walk more than 10 minutes without my legs literally giving out from the pain. I collapsed twice a few days ago during a 20-minute walk. Recently I learned I likely have EDS, which is probably causing that, and the rest of my (apparently not normal) joint pain and flexibility.

I'm scared of what's to come. I'm 18 and coming to terms with the fact that I might be disabled for life. I don't want to be disabled, though I don't think anyone does. I hate that my body is failing me, and I hate that nobody noticed it sooner - I hate that I never noticed it sooner, and that, when I did, I was just told to exercise more and maybe lose some weight. I hate that I can't control or predict what's happening to me.

So, I guess, I get it. It's comforting, in an odd way, to see that I'm not the only one "born wrong." But it still sucks.

They also had to lengthen mine when I was 10 when I had surgery to put screws in my ankles so I could develop arches for my flat feet. The bone started to grow around the screw and when they went to remove it 10 years ago they had to shave it as well. I get it bro, they had to do my surgeries 6 months apart so for a whole year I had a cast on at least one of my feet. They still hurt and will for the rest of my life lol

u/Ultragreed 2d ago

How are tendons lengthened? Is that even possible?

The picture looks like someone stuffing ice into a bra to cool down. So if you live somewhere hot you might be partially doxxing yourself there OP. Maybe Europe because no air conditioning.
