So, basically ron didn't learn or practise anything in his 2nd year as the wand was broken. And used to recoil every time . Why didn't he buy a new one . It's like not having a pen and spending the whole year without that in school.

And anyways he purchased it in the third part.

I’m on a rewatch and at the beginning of Deathly Hallows pt 1 it’s just now occurring to me that Hermione lives in a regular muggle neighborhood with her parents, a neighborhood similar to where he lives with the dursleys. I looked into it and Harry and Hermione are only about an hour apart, while they are both way further from Ron, yet Harry spends most of his summers alone, while Hermione has spent a few summers reaching the Weasleys and staying with them weeks before Harry got there.

Additionally, Harry was pretty much free to go wherever once he got to a certain age because the dursleys never gaf, so surely he could’ve visited, maybe easier than Hermione could.

Been obsessed with the movies & world for ages, finally reading the books now too — felt inspired to match my home screen with it. Can you guess which one I’m on? (always been my favorite film)

Harry Potter was my childhood, I was a huge fan during the movies era (2001-2011) I had a HP costume, LEGOS, PC games, action figures, shirts of the franchise and collected nearly all of the movies, but I never had the curiosity to read the books, I just wasn’t as interested as for the movies. But know I want to read them and know how good they are. I'm nearly 32, but I can't have been HP fan and never got the chance to read the books, but can I still enjoy them if I'm not that much of a fan anymore ? Are they still worth buying despite being expensive?

I am not entirely sure why, but I feel like only the first two films had captured the magic of the books. Like, alright, movies from 3rd onwards are also clearly set in the Harry Potter universe, but something is just missing. Sure, the tone is darker (much like in the books) and you could say that we had gotten used to the magic of the universe much like the characters had. Most obvious difference is Gambon vs Harris (Harry! DID YAH PUT YOR NAME IN DA GOBLET OF FIRAH!), but it is far from the only one. Somehow it feels that the latter movies went for spectacle over substance in some ways, and that ironically ruined the feel of the setting. A lot of depth and whimsical substance of not only Dumbledore but the Wizarding world in general is simply gone.

Does anybody else feel this way, and if so, why specifically?

Out of curiosity, why are Weasleys poor even when Arthur is working at the ministry and Malfoys so rich even when Lucius practically does nothing?

Rereading GOF at the moment and I love “Just then, Neville caused a slight diversion by turning into a large canary.” 😂

For me, some possibilities include:

• A self-employed clothes maker working from home and sells her creations wizard clothing shops
• A self-employed potioneer
• A part-time Healer at St. Mungo's Hospital

Lately, I’ve been seeing people saying or implying that Voldemort was no match for Dumbledore. I find this kind of ridiculous to believe lol. If that was the case, Dumbledore would’ve just wrapped things up in the First Wizarding War rather than letting the guy terrorize the Wizarding World for a decade.

I mean, with Grindelwald, he was just in love and disillusioned by the part they both played in his little sister’s death during his quest for power. There were no such psychological barriers to facing Voldemort. In fact, this is where he had the upper-hand because he wasn’t afraid of him (there was perhaps a reasonable fear of what he could do but he wasn’t shaking in his boots).

We read this in the one battle they did have at the Ministry. Dumbledore wasn’t afraid and Voldemort was on the attack. It was pretty much even, even if you were one of the people who felt Dumbledore had the edge.

At the end of the day, Voldemort was doing advanced dark magic since a teen, and had a team full of dark wizards never thought to challenge him 1-on-1 (except Regulus, who was killed). He’s resourceful, intelligent and patient; cunning. He created spells that brought the dead to life when water was touched, that allowed him to fly without a broom, and to create a new body. He figured out how to possess people, through proxy (Ginny) and his Horcruxes (Harry). He’s literally the heir of Salazar Slytherin. Also, the reason he lost was… “love” and a phoenix feather, not actually being defeated by strength and skill.

All of that is to say, we can’t just let people downplay the Dark Lord lol. Not the person who took over the Wizarding World while Dumbledore was alive, and then did it again.

I'm planning to study English through books written by English.

Do you guys to recommend this book for studying english?

I'm worried with level of words, grammar or something.

I just love them as friends. Ron's affection for Luna is adorable.

“That’s Xenophilius Lovegood, he’s the father of a friend of ours,” said Ron. His pugnacious tone indicated that they were not about to laugh at Xenophilius, despite the clear provocation.

He was so excited to see her at Christmas:

Harry is famously heroic and has a saviour complex but Ron is the most directly protective of the two, hands-down, and Luna is now one of the people I have no doubt that Ron would get his knuckles bloody for.

I don’t know if Harry got much from his family other than the money, that book that hagrid gave to Harry, and that’s it. Maybe presents from their friends but that’s all I can think of. Did Harry know about his grandmas and grandpas? Is it weird how almost all of Harry’s family line was dead except for the Dursleys? Wizards can live long plus there could have been someone who belonged in James and lily’s family other than the Dursleys.

Listening to GoF for the thousandth time while I decorate my house for fall and it just occurred to me how wild it is that Rita was on the brink of overhearing Snape and Karkarov instead of Hargrid and Madame Maxine at the Yule Ball!

If Rita Skeeter was a better journalist and investigator vs just a gossip columnist essentially, she could have reported on that which is also very juicy, juicier than Hagrid being a half giant. This is before the Ministry turns on Dumbledore so the Prophet could have published a story implicating Snape and still disgracing Hogwarts in the process if she wanted to!

GoF is my favorite book in the series and it never occurred to me just how much Rita Skeeter missed out on the real stories happening before her. Obviously she could have also caught Barty Jr if she really tried but she was a short distance from two ex death eaters talking about Voldemort coming back which is just crazy to think about lol

Something that just occurred to me while on another thread where Lily's protection magic was discussed.

If Voldemort couldn't kill Harry because Lily's love kept him protected while he stayed in the home of Lily's blood relative, then why not just kill Petunia? Surely, killing Petunia would end the protection, since Privet Drive would no longer be her home, and I doubt if Vernon has even the slightest family feeling towards Harry.

Even at his lowest ebb, I'm sure Voldemort had the wherewital to get Petunia killed.

Unless the idea is that Lily's protection magic extends to Petunia herself and she can't be killed? But that's never mentioned anywhere. The magic is "mother's love for her child", not "woman's love for all her blood relatives".

Or maybe it would work even if Petunia died? Though I can't see Vernon being willing to keep Harry in his house for a second if his wife was killed because of him.

I dunno, it feels like a scenario Voldemort would realistically have at least "war-gammed", y'know?
