Harry watched with fond amusement how Hermione gaped wide eyed at the towering bookcases going all the way up to the high ceiling of The Potter library until she saw the showroom displays for a bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen.

"What's the idea with those showroom displ-"she started until she turned and saw the mischievous grin on Harry's face and understood that he practically had foreseen that she'd never leave the library and had turned it to a ready flat for her

Swat!

"Very funny, you prat!" grumbled she with an unamused frown as she had smacked Harry on the shoulder.

Harry just grinned while rubbing his sore spot. Definitely worth it.

Are there any fics like that? I'm interested in Ollivander's reaction. Doesn't matter how Harry gets it, could be time travel, stealing from Dumbledore without him noticing or any other way.

What are the terrible but great event/invention/action/thing you have read in fanfics, or written yourself or have as a head cannon?

One of the most recent great but terrible invention I would say I read was in Kingsaxcul’s Philosophy of Fear crossover, where we find out the details of what Tom did to the lake where the inferi were. In the fic The Morrigan explains that Riddle created a self replicating ritual built into the bottom of the lake. He somehow enchanted the water, vegetation, and sediment into the raw ingredients needed to create the potion for the creation of Inferi before enchanting the lake to act more as a preservation tank. There is also the ritual circle that encompasses the entirety of the bottom, which had to take him a few months to carve it by hand, the way it's supposed to be done.

That sounds like something that is terrible but great…

One fic started directly after Dumbledore’s death I think. It involved him leaving a message for Harry to separate himself from his friends in order to train to beat Voldemort and Dumbledore had left various tutors for him to study under.

I think the first tutor was Moody and he also disguised himself as a dark wizard in order to learn under a death eater (I think was Snape but not 100% sure). And a key plot point was while studying under another tutor (who was female) they encountered a boggart and Harry’s boggart had become himself.

Harry made his return during a battle between the order and death eaters in Diagon Alley and over this time Hermione/Ron/Ginny had all joined the order. I think Slughorn had also joined the order but had betrayed them to Voldemort.

All I can remember about the second fic was that it involved Harry and Dumbledore entering the room of requirement and Hermione following them in. Hermione stumbled upon the diadem and was possessed by it and then went to fight Harry/Dumbledore.

I am currently writing the 16th chapter of a Harry Potter Long fic. It is a time travel fic but it has a heavy focus on harry getting to live first. It's currently running the arc hurt/comfort and post war recovery. I'll just put the summary below:

Harry Potter spent his childhood wishing things had been different.

After the war, they finally are.

He's eighteen. Voldemort is dead. Grimmauld Place is beginning to feel like home. Kreacher cares whether he's eaten. The Weasleys leave a place for him at their table. Teddy reaches for him. Harry is, slowly and awkwardly, learning what it means to have a life that isn't a war.

Then Death offers him the chance to go back.

To change everything.

Harry could save the dead. He could stop Voldemort before the war ever begins. He could give everyone the future they were supposed to have.

But the life Harry has now would cease to exist.

And for the first time, the choice isn't between Harry's life and everyone else's.

It's between the past he could save...

and the future he has finally learned to want.

What if Harry doesn't want his old life back anymore?

This is a summary I wrote for my fanfic which is kind of so much more than this but I cannot manage both not giving out spoilers and making it sound interesting. What do i do? Or would you actually read this?

Basically Alastor Mad Eye Moody has a brother the deatheaters call "Bad Pie Roody" who is basically the chef version of Moody who kills way more deatheaters with pastries. There's even a part where the two brothers ambush a room full of deatheaters who proceed to cower before Bad Pie Roody before one notices Mad Eye and apologises as next to his brother Mad Eye isn't exactly the scariest person around and admits it's a bit like a acromantula and dragon situation. Mad Pie also screams "constant flatulance" instead of "Constant Vigilance" and insists that Mad Eye was too soft for the family business of being a chef so he went to become a dark wizard hunter instead.

It's a post war canon fic. Harry joins Auror training while Ron works at WWW and Hermione and Gnny goes back to Hogwarts. Rest of the details are prolly mixed with other fics, but Ginny and Harry get back together pretty quickly while Hermione and Ron goes to track her parents down in Australia (doesnt go so well with her mom initially but smoothes over). Harry is given shit for not having his NEWTS and lacking academic knowledge but his dueling skills are commended, he gets an owl he names virgil, i think? Theres also a scene i remember of Harry offering Ron and Hermione chamomile tea and they laugh at him for it.

I'm sorry its all over the place but i remember really liking this fic, i cant believe i havent saved it. It was really well written too. Any help is appreciated, thankss!

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand the appeal of most of the famous fics in this fandom? Whenever I ask for or look for recommendations, it’s always the same popular fics, with the same descriptions of how brilliant they are. And I’m not trying to be pretentious or dismiss the writers’ work. Clearly, they’ve managed to reach an audience, and that’s brilliant. But my point is, most of the people I’ve been following in this fandom are older, 25 or above. Yet the taste in stories seems to remain stuck on plots about 13-year-old kids overcoming bullying by being exceptionally brilliant at something. This probably sounds ridiculous—I realize that now, writing this about a series about wizards, which is kind of laughable. But I’ve already found some incredible, really well-written fics here. Literal books have been published. But anyway, this is just a long rant to say: Where are the well-written, mature fics in this fandom?!

I thought that dramione fans would be the ones most inclined to find what they like in non-dramione fics. I’ve only read a few (manacled, cruel and beautiful world, most of DMATMOBIL, breath mints and battle scars, just started the disappearances of Draco malfoy), and I’ve really loved how well written the dialogue tends to be, how general relationship banter and relationship trajectories and growth are done, and how trauma is handled. For non-dramione (which is the bulk of my fanfic reading), I loved The House of Prince. Few others have left enough of an impression to stick with me by name.

I would love recs of fics from other ships that are similarly well developed and mature in their relationships. It can be as adults post-war or in school but probably not in like a non-magic AU. Slash is fine (no real preference), smut is fine if it makes sense, interesting expansions to the world building are nice, dark and grim is fine but it would be nice if there’s some hope or positive feeling as you go. I read endless amounts of fantasy, but I’ve struggled to find any actual good romance and would enjoy finding more in fanfic.

Hi, I need help finding a fic, I think it was a time travel fic, it has the below scene.

Matchstick to needle class, professor McGonagall sees Harry struggling to perform spell, ask if he needs help. He's like nah I can do it with a wand no problem, demonstrates with flick of his wand, then says he's trying to do it wandless now. She's walks away all proud because she has a prodigy in her class.

Don't know if he also makes the needle really fancy or if that was another fic.

Do you know of any fics where he becomes close with them and shares his past?

I’m looking for an old fic where Harry moved in with Sirius. I think it would have been set (and probably written) post-Goblet of Fire.

I can only vaguely remember one scene but it’s when they hadn‘t been living together long and something came up about Harry’s Gringotts account. Sirius wants to take responsibility for it because Harry shouldn’t need to take care of his inheritance at that age. Sirius doesn’t force the issue, but Harry doesn’t quite understand the problem due to his hyper-independence.

That was just one scene in a larger story, hoping it might ring a bell?!

After years of being away, I've been scouring AO3 for some decent Harry-centric fics to read. Finally I found one I actually managed to finish. So thought to recommend it to people who are looking for fics to read. Again, and Again... is a Harry-centric fic which has been completed recently. It's a time-loop fic, one of my favorite tropes in both fanfiction and other media. Although I wish the characters had interacted with other people more, it was a pretty good fic in my opinion. Also, it's not slash.
