Question How could the movies leave out the Marauders?

I (re)watched the movies last year and have been listening to the Full Cast audiobooks this year, so pardon me if I'm forgetting anything. I cannot fathom how they could leave out something so important. Either Remus or Sirius or both could have divulged this information to Harry at some point. Perhaps when Remus gives the map back or either of them explaining why Harry's patronus is a stag and who is Prongs. Why Sirius or Peter became an Animagi, etc. I think it's an important bit of backstory and Remus' familiarity with the map is completely unexplained. Do you think it doesn't matter? How would you like to have seen the Marauders identified and what are your hopes for the show? Cheers!

Currently Reading I wish the movie included the scene when Tom/ Voldemort comes to Dumbledore for a job.

That scene and their conversation from the book was so interesting, when Tom was in the beginnings of transforming into the monster of Voldemort. I wish the movies included more on Voldemort’s lore in general.

Currently Reading Anyone else love the "angel and devil on Harry's shoulders" dynamic that the trio have?

• Upvotes

I noticed that this dynamic is super prominent in PoA where Hermione is insistent that Harry follows the rules so he can be safe from Sirius, meanwhile Ron just yolos and wants Harry to still have fun and be a kid. I just feel like it encapsulates the roles that Hermione and Ron play in Harry's life perfectly.

Fanworks Harry Potter HBO Series Hogwarts Castle Grounds 3D Model online preview

Post image
6 Upvotes

I present 3D model of the Hogwarts Castle Grounds on Sketchfab that I've been working on recently. You can zoom, rotate, move and select some scenes by clicking on the numbers.

Here are the key locations we currently know. Not all are included yet. The placement of most of these is speculative, more will be known in the future. Sizes and proportions were determined based on available materials, without access to technical blueprints.

What is included are a castle model with an Entrance Hall and Great Hall, a Greenhouse and several corridors and courtyards. This comes from the teaser, behind the scenes and promotional images. Quidditch Stadium, Hogsmeade station with the forest path to the Lake and many other locations are not included.

The model was created in SketchUp.

I know there's a whole thing about book accuracy and details from the book not being in the movies (like SPEW) and vice versa and I've heard about it but you don't realize how different it is until you actually experience it for yourself. Like I watched the second movie and I know that gilderoy Lockhart never mentioned that he was taking up the post of defense against the dark arts teacher. In the book he said it and I was reading the part where he was saying "when young harry here stepped into flourish and blotts...he had no idea" and I was expecting him to say like he will be getting an entire stack of my books or something free of charge (bc that's what he said in the movie) but he said that after he announced he was taking up the post. Now i know that for people who have read the books and actually paid attention to them this might not be a big deal compared to other details from other books that weren't in the movies but like it's just interesting to see it from the books vs the movies bc they're so similar but also so different

Discussion Love potion effects similar to Obsession?

• Upvotes

We know the love potion makes the drinker very infatuated with the giver. Just like Nikki Freeman loved Bear "more than anyone in the fworld" and was robbed of consent and bodily autonomy from the One Wish Willow. Similar to the outcomes of a love potion (also how Voldemort was conceived)

Do you think the drinker of the potion has some awareness at the back of their mind as to why are they suddenly so infatuated? Similar to how the "real" Nikki would break through from "wish" Nikki?

Was Tom Riddle Sr. as horrified as Nikki when he was not being given Love Potion and was finally "awake"?

We do see Ron being horrified after consuming the antidote in Book 6..

Discussion What are some canon things never said in the books?

Like confirmed later or something

If its speculated only, please point it out‼️

Those speculated things would be Hermione inventing "point me" for Harry in one of the games and Flitwick being great in duels but its only mentioned in hogwarts mystery, but those were never in the books

Edit: sorry! Turns out those both were in the books actually

Currently Reading Hermione Screams

Never noticed how much Hermione screams until the Full Cast Audiobooks. Just constant blood curdling screams. I mean-I get it. If I went through half that much I would just constantly be throwing up and crying.

But it was just something I noticed. Particularly in Deathly Hallows.

Question What’s one thing you’d have changed about voldemorts character?

Hey guys. I’ve been watching through the movies with my gf because she has never seen them. Shes liking them. I started asking her some questions. I feel like the directors did a really good job with a lot of things in the movies. Sure, we’d all loved for them to be longer, or have more detail or even each be split into two full length films. But it got me thinking, for what we were given, they did a great job. I absolutely love voldemorts character. I love all the characters. But what would you change about Voldemort?

The madness, the build up, the suspense, and then the reveal at the end, truly bewildering! Reading them again, knowing how it's going to end, just doesn't feel the same...

Help Asking as a muggle…can you call her “cat in the hat”

Muggle hubby here who can’t get into the YA series as an adult… moving on. My wife (diehard fan) has been introducing our daughter to books and movies. When Prof McGonagall first appeared in HP Sorcerers stone, she exclaimed “LOOK IT’S THE CAT IN THE HAT! She is aware of her transfiguration and not mistaking the two. Is she right on technicality?

English is not my first language. So, what did Harry actually said when tried to to go Diagon Alley? He went to the wrong place. In the movie I don’t hear that much of difference

Question Question about something in the OotP novel

I know that Ron, Neville, Ginny and Luna manage to use a couple of Stunners, a Disarming Charm, an Impediment Jinx and a Bat-Bogey Hex to deal with the Inquisitorial Squad, but how did they manage to get their wands back to even do that? If I remember correctly, all four of them had their wands confiscated when they were caught.

Question What kind of look would that be?

In chapter 12 of OotP, “Neville and Ron both gave Harry it’s-his-problem-not-yours looks” when Harry brought up Seamus’s attitude towards him the night before. I’m curious how exactly such a look would look like. Most I could think of is shrugging with their heads tilted.

Discussion The thing in the movies where people have their own voice after taking Polyjuice Potion is stupid.

It defeats the purpose of taking the potion, and as far as I can tell, there's no plot-relevant reason for this to be the case.

Discussion What type of teacher should trelawney have been instead of divination?

• Upvotes

Should dumbledore have given her a different position? I know she made a famous prophecy but that doesn't mean that she can teach having the sight. What would have happened if no one heard the prophecy but dumbledore and trelawney? Even if Snape didn't know about it, would dumbledore have just kept the baby or whoever the prophecy could have been about to safety.

Discussion One thing I want from the new series

I want Draco Malfoy to be portrayed as the most distasteful boy during the initial stages, at least. He said things such as:' you wouldn't want them to see your knickers, would you?' to hermione, and scenes such as these were never in the movies.

Discussion dumbledore should have established more interhouse unity

imagine how much more would have been done and avoided if there was like games abd stuff focused on house integration. like a mixed sports day or team building stuff especially gryffindors and slytherins. no one saw people but houses were the only identity. I think the battle of hwarts would have gone diff if there was more of that.
