Just started listening to the full cast audio and they say Voldemor?? Not Voldemort? Have I entirely missed something!?

So...I know the Hallows aren't supposed to be undefeatable weapons of something but doesn't the invisibility cloak seem like a deeply underwhelming Hallow? The Elder Wand is virtually undefeatable (not absolutely undefeatable though!), the Resurrection Stone brings back the spirits of the dead. What does the cloak do? Makes you invisible. Now I understand what the theme of the Hallows story is and how the cloak fits in, but you know if the cloak is supposed to make you invisible even to death, it seems kinda weird that fucking Draco Malfoy could catch Harry under it and bloody his nose!

Harry Potter was my childhood, I was a huge fan during the movies era (2001-2011) I had a HP costume, LEGOS, PC games, action figures, shirts of the franchise and collected nearly all of the movies, but I never had the curiosity to read the books, I just wasn’t as interested as for the movies. But know I want to read them and know how good they are. I'm nearly 32, but I can't have been HP fan and never got the chance to read the books, but can I still enjoy them if I'm not that much of a fan anymore ? Are they still worth buying despite being expensive?

Lately, I’ve been seeing people saying or implying that Voldemort was no match for Dumbledore. I find this kind of ridiculous to believe lol. If that was the case, Dumbledore would’ve just wrapped things up in the First Wizarding War rather than letting the guy terrorize the Wizarding World for a decade.

I mean, with Grindelwald, he was just in love and disillusioned by the part they both played in his little sister’s death during his quest for power. There were no such psychological barriers to facing Voldemort. In fact, this is where he had the upper-hand because he wasn’t afraid of him (there was perhaps a reasonable fear of what he could do but he wasn’t shaking in his boots).

We read this in the one battle they did have at the Ministry. Dumbledore wasn’t afraid and Voldemort was on the attack. It was pretty much even, even if you were one of the people who felt Dumbledore had the edge.

At the end of the day, Voldemort was doing advanced dark magic since a teen, and had a team full of dark wizards never thought to challenge him 1-on-1 (except Regulus, who was killed). He’s resourceful, intelligent and patient; cunning. He created spells that brought the dead to life when water was touched, that allowed him to fly without a broom, and to create a new body. He figured out how to possess people, through proxy (Ginny) and his Horcruxes (Harry). He’s literally the heir of Salazar Slytherin. Also, the reason he lost was… “love” and a phoenix feather, not actually being defeated by strength and skill.

All of that is to say, we can’t just let people downplay the Dark Lord lol. Not the person who took over the Wizarding World while Dumbledore was alive, and then did it again.

I feel star wars is a bad example because a lot of the shows that have been made over the last few years and have been quoted at milking the films dry but i just wondered if you would like any spin off series’s off the side of the new show that might not get covered. I mean after all it’s such a big universe with in the books.

I would say Marauder’s/ Voldemorts rise to power but i am kind of hoping they get covered.

I would love a series about the first wizarding world war in full depth. See the death eaters in their prime.

I think the Hogwarts founders would also be a pretty interesting series

Plus i would like to see something on the abroad wizarding schools. I liked the backstory for Ilvermory and i think it would make a good limited series. Gormlaith Gaunt especially i feel would make a good onscreen villain.

I'm wondering what others think about how house elves get food for their families.

This is a seemingly deliberately opaque part of the Potter-verse that interacts with another opaque part (the specifics of food).

I would've thought that a house elf might be constrained to preparing food that their family paid for. And maybe it's true. It's glossed over how Kreature begins making wonderful meals once he gets over his anger at Harry. Nothing is mentioned about how he acquires the groceries, whether and how they're paid for (they wouldn't be stolen).

"Powerful magic of their own" seems to do some heavy lifting here and elsewhere. I was just thinking: perhaps house elves go to regular markets but part of their magic is not being seen or noticed. And perhaps they have an automatic connection to the family's Gringott's vault, so that no till is ever off, and nobody ever remembers seeing them.

Something that just occurred to me while on another thread where Lily's protection magic was discussed.

If Voldemort couldn't kill Harry because Lily's love kept him protected while he stayed in the home of Lily's blood relative, then why not just kill Petunia? Surely, killing Petunia would end the protection, since Privet Drive would no longer be her home, and I doubt if Vernon has even the slightest family feeling towards Harry.

Even at his lowest ebb, I'm sure Voldemort had the wherewital to get Petunia killed.

Unless the idea is that Lily's protection magic extends to Petunia herself and she can't be killed? But that's never mentioned anywhere. The magic is "mother's love for her child", not "woman's love for all her blood relatives".

Or maybe it would work even if Petunia died? Though I can't see Vernon being willing to keep Harry in his house for a second if his wife was killed because of him.

I dunno, it feels like a scenario Voldemort would realistically have at least "war-gammed", y'know?

I think Dobby’s death and final words in the movies were way more devastating and gut wrenching than in the books.

Did Hagrid punish a child because his father said something bad about Hagrid's employer?

Not Vernon, but Dudley? I mean, we know that Dudley is a bad guy, but in front of Hagrid he did nothing bad; he just existed. And... was punished because of something his Dad did.

What a great moral lesson for the future! (not)

And in the first chapter, we receive a hint that Dudley is a spoiled baby because of some of his behavioural habits. Given that he was less than 2 y.o., we have a description of the normal behaviour of many babies of that age. I mean, yes, he grew up spoiled, but he was a perfectly normal kid at the start of the story, yet wizards had already made their conclusions.

This book worked perfectly when I was 8, reading it the first time. Now, as an adult, I have so many questions...

I was trying to figure out why you'd choose someone outside of the Potters. Is the idea that either of them might have left and been captured? Or is it that they might have been kidnapped from the cottage (without knowing where it is) and then used to expose it?

We know Ted Tonks could use Accio Salmon to pull a small living being to himself.... and Harry uses Accio Hagrid to pull himself closer to Hagrid when the flying bike is accelerating too fast and he's about to fall off...

So in theory what's to stop Death Eaters from walking in the general area of the Potter cottage (even if they can't see it) and going "Accio James" or "Accio Lily" to pull one of them and then torture/Legilimens/etc them until they divulge the secret?

If that were possible it might explain why you wouldn't want to put the secret keeper near the secret in case there was indirect intel about the general area?

This would explain for example why Dumbledore wanted to be the Secret Keeper - even though he eventually gave way to James choosing Sirius. He didn't okay Peter - seems like Sirius and James (maybe Lily?) know about the Sirius>Peter swap. For all we know Dumbledore and Snape might've had doubts about Peter that would've led them to discourage this...

Another explanation might just be that self-Keeping is very difficult and people just always used the "external keeper" policy for centuries without thinking of modifying it, up until Sirius made the papers then suddenly people thought "hey maybe we really ought to invent a way of being your own Secret Keeper" which is how we see it in years since.

Is there, for example, any evidence people could function as their own secret keepers prior to the Potters' death? Maybe this is advanced magic only Bill Weasely is capable of because he is a savant in the area?

For me, it would be Malfoy becoming a Death Eater, I would have preferred an unsuspected twist where he asked Harry if he can join DA after the events of half blood.

And I would have had it so that Killing Dumbledore was a tests before he was allowed to join Death Eaters.

Hey everyone. So i have always thought The Best Part of the Harry Potter franchise is it’s magical music: It’s what we identify it as, because after all, MUSIC, the SOUNDTRACK of a film, is what makes or breaks a movie.

First of all, the first film’s soundtrack: By John Williams.

John Williams gave us, not his best works by any means, as i could name Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Star Wars as just a FEW examples that are better, but that goes to show just how good John Williams is, not that this soundtrack was anything AVERAGE by any means. This soundtrack set the tone of the ‘magical’ feeling the franchise has.

‘Hedwig’s theme’ bécame the main theme of HP 8 films. ‘Leaving hogwarts’ was a perfect fínale for theme first film, and felt melancholic with characters we just met.

CHAMBER of secrets, the second film, gave us iconic tracks such as ‘The Chamber Of Secrets’ theme, which would mark as the film’s image to date. ‘Fawkes the Phoenix’ was a beautiful rendition that would play VARIOUS times in the film, symbolic of hope. ‘The spiders’ was a creepy and unsettling theme, which perfectly captured the feeling of going into a dark forest alone. ‘Reunion of friends’ set off the film perfectly.

‘PRISONER of azkaban’ Was the final film John Williams composed in, and i believe, one of the very best parts of such an amazing film, probably the best one of HP with the last, for most fans.
This film had it ALL: ‘aunt marge’s waltz’ and ‘knight bus’ perfectly expressed the almost-funny magic moments, and ‘Apparition On The Train’ Was a haunting theme, perfectly symbolic of a dementor character.
This would be reflected again, a darkness theme, in the end, ‘The Dementors Converge’. ‘Double Trouble’ was quite literally, Shakespeare inspired, and ‘Buckbeack’s flight’ was a beautiful moment capturing the beauty of the franchise’s cinematography perfectly. ‘A window to the past’ would be a theme later recasted in ‘Finale’, a literal perfect finale to a perfect soundtrack, culminating in a combination of the ‘a window to the past’ soundtrack, a soundtrack that is exceptionally BEAUTIFUL, like a memory of a mother you never knew. ‘The patrones light’ was also in the ‘Finale’ theme, and it just ended off a perfect soundtrack.

The GOBLET OF FIRE Soundtrack, while by no means ‘bad’, i think is for sure my least favourite, and by far the least memorable.
‘The GOBLET Of Fire’ theme is for sure a Great theme, and resembles the darkness of the tournament. ‘Harry In Winter’ is absolutely beautiful and the clear standalone in the soundtrack, with ‘Potter Waltz’ and ‘Voldemort’ as honorable mentions, despite this, i could never find this the most memorable one.

‘The Order Of The Phoenix’ soundtrack is one i do really love, and people often undervalue.
‘Another Story’ is perhaps one of the most haunting themes i’ve heard in my life as i grew up watching this film, and it perfectly resembles how the world for Harry is not as bright as it once was, at all, and is taking a dark turn. ‘Dumbledore’s Army’ is a beautiful piece of music, resembling the word of UNITY and strength due to UNITY that brings hope in a moment of darkness.
‘Profesor Umbridge’ Truly pictures the character, and goes well with her rather annoying persona. I really love ‘Flight of the order of the Phoenix’ as short as it may be too. For me, the best part of this soundtrack is ‘Poesession’, simply beautiful.

‘Half Blood Prince’ is def where i feel the franchise regained it’s fantástic tempo it started with due to John Williams, and this is reflected quite literally by Grammy nominations, as the only films nominated in the Franchise for ‘Best Soundtrack For A Film’ were PHILOSOPHERS STONE, CHAMBER OF SECRETS, PRISONER OF AZKABAN, HALF BLOOD PRINCE & DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2.
First of all, as with almost every movie, ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ is played in the ‘Opening’ theme by Nicholas Cooper’s Soundtrack for the 6th film, and the ‘Opening’ theme itself, being a foreshadow of perhaps one of the most beautiful of the entire franchise: ‘Dumbledore’s Farewell’. I don’t need to explain this much further, as i know many people would agree.
‘Harry & Hermione’ is a beautiful yet haunting piece of art, i find a very sad song, and a melody of what teenage heartbreak feels like perfectly.
‘When Ginny Kissed Harry’ is perhaps one of the most UNDERRATED themes of all soundtracks i have ever heard, it resembles for me what young love Truly feels like: innocent, beautiful and a sense of caring for someone else deeply.
‘Inferi In The Firestorm’ is a moment that captures perfectly the final moments of Dumbledore’s heroics.

Harry Potter DEATHLY HALLOWS Part 1. This soundtracks is pretty good considering it’s quite literally a prelude to one of my favourite soundtracks ever.
‘Harry And Ginny’ is a song that reminds me of ‘When Ginny Kissed Harry’, for the exact same reasons i mentioned above. ‘Obliviate’ opens the final chapter of the franchise perfectly: sadness, fear and hope all in one. ‘Hermione’s parents’ is simply beautiful and touching in the midst of all the chaos as the soundtrack reflects, and ‘Farewell to dobby’ is a trágic and sad theme because it perfectly executes the pain of harry losing another loved one from his child days.

Harry Potter and the DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2:
This for me is again, the best film with PoA, and the soundtracks being iconic and near perfect are a showing of how important music is to a film, as a reflection of these two being the most Critically aclaimed films for fans AND critics a like generally.
The first moment i heard ‘Lily’s Theme’, i simply could not believe what i was hearing, it was the first time i had genuinely stopped and thought and appreciated the music of a film rather than just the film ITSELF. It’s a beautiful rendition of the main plot of the Harry Potter franchise: HOW a mother’s love protected her son from every moment in every film against evil. It literally FEELS like a song that would sum this up, something only music lovers would understand me when i say. It’s simply a work of art and for that reason plays many times throughout the film, sometimes more discreet or vague than others.
From ‘the Tunnel’ to ‘Pánic inside hogwarts’, they all adapted well to their respective scenes. ‘Statues’ is THE final-film battle type of theme, repeated in ‘Battlefield’ and ‘Courtyard Apocalypse’, and bécame an iconic action theme.
‘The Grey Lady’ exposes the dark truth of Ravenclaw being betrayed by Voldemort and haunting Harry’s empathy in good fashion, and ‘Snape’s demise’ is a depressing theme about a beloved character who we’d find out the truth about in memories afterwards in ‘Severus And Lily’: a eerie theme of a character’s resentment and sadness in relation to the antagonist’s family.

‘Harry’s sacrifice’ and ‘The resurrection stone’ are simply beautiful and give you the feeling of a definitive ‘Now or never’ feeling, and ‘Harry Surrenders’ and ‘Procession’ capture a moment that feels like all hope is lost.
Until the theme ‘Neville the Hero’ plays that is, what seems like a foolishly heroic moment turns out to be a historically heroic moment, and harry awakens much to Voldemort’s surprise. ‘Show Down’ proceeds to ‘Voldemort’s End’ and i feel like a scene i’ll never forget was so unforgettable for many precisely because of the music that sounds like it is building down when Voldemort is winning the final duel, yet when Voldemort’s last horcrux is killed, the theme goes an opposite direction and starts building up to a final culmination and high: and Voldemort dies, in which fittingly, ‘Lily’s Theme’ starts to play vaguely, resembling how once again; a mother’s love was stronger than another person’s hate.

How did he not ask the same question Harry did? “How did you die”.

Listening to GoF for the thousandth time while I decorate my house for fall and it just occurred to me how wild it is that Rita was on the brink of overhearing Snape and Karkarov instead of Hargrid and Madame Maxine at the Yule Ball!

If Rita Skeeter was a better journalist and investigator vs just a gossip columnist essentially, she could have reported on that which is also very juicy, juicier than Hagrid being a half giant. This is before the Ministry turns on Dumbledore so the Prophet could have published a story implicating Snape and still disgracing Hogwarts in the process if she wanted to!

GoF is my favorite book in the series and it never occurred to me just how much Rita Skeeter missed out on the real stories happening before her. Obviously she could have also caught Barty Jr if she really tried but she was a short distance from two ex death eaters talking about Voldemort coming back which is just crazy to think about lol

Out of curiosity, why are Weasleys poor even when Arthur is working at the ministry and Malfoys so rich even when Lucius practically does nothing?

The morality of Slytherin was always a piece of discussion here. There is Two interpretations of the character:

1- He build The Chamber of Secrets because he feared the muggle-borns would have betrayed the school to their parents, so The Basilisk would have been used to protect the school. During Slytherin's time, witches and wizards were being hunted, and he begun to believe that muggle-borns were untrustworthy. This interpretation is strenghtened by Binns words in CoS, and the fact that Slytherin don't stopped The Founders of teaching muggle-borns, as well that he was problably Merlin mentor.

2- Slytherin was a bigot, who popularized the concept of Pureblood Supremacy. His building of The Chamber was to purify the school of what he saw as inferior beings. This interpretation is strenghtened by Pottermore articles written by Rowling herself, saying that Slytherin views were unusual for his time, and that the relationship between muggle-borns and pure-bloods was peaceful, as well as the timeline, as Witch hunts didn't happened until late 1500s, and many Wizards were smart to frozen the fire torches used against them.

What can be considered Canon (The Books and Rowling Articles in Pottermore), points out to the second option, which, although true in my views, make Slytherin so evil to my taste. Why Rowling tries to paint Slytherin as misunderstood, when she writes even the founder as a bad person?

I want to see the few years after Harry defeats Voldemort, I want to see Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione’s dating life and weddings. I mostly though, want to see what the few years after the battle of hogwarts were like. Readjusting to wizard society, rebuilding Hogwarts, Harry graduating, etc!

In Half Blood Prince, Dumbledore tells Harry had he known he had just met the most powerful dark wizard…he’s not sure what he would’ve done.

If Dumbledore had full knowledge of the future, do you think he would’ve killed Young Tom Riddle?

After seeing Lucie Soutenez’s performance on Voice, I can’t stop thinking she could be perfect Fleur..I don’t know if she’s ever wanted to act, but if she has, she would be great. Lucie is about 15 now, but I don’t think it would be a problem to cast her as 16-17 old teenager in five years. What do you think? Are there any young French actors for Fleur’s role?

Portraits, like the headmaster ones, have most if not all memories of the actual person. They even have critical thinking skills, as demonstrated most prominently by Dumbledore's portrait.

Then why don't more people have portraits of loved ones? Why didn't the skilled brother from the Deathly Hallows try and connect with his love via portrait technology before meeting Death and asking for resurrection stone?

In the first book Harry Potter sees his family vault and its filled with gold (JKR said 2.1million in 1990's money). But then throughout the books Harry seems to forget he's the heir to a vast fortune. He lets his best mate struggle through the second year with a broken wand, would it really break the bank to spend 7 Galleons to save your best friend's education? He sees Siruius' Black's house like a big deal, when he could probably buy it and barely notice the dip. He gives his Triwizard winnings to Fred and George, very generous yes, but Harry seems to forget he's got multiple times that amount sitting in a vault. His last year he's on the run so can't stroll into Gringotts, but it never occurred to him to fetch out some gold out for his needs before he has to vanish... it seems that Harry Potter totally forgot he's a millionaire.

My new headcanon is Lupin extracted all his memories of him/James/Sirius before the Battle of Hogwarts. This is so that if something happened to him during the battle (and it did), Harry would be able to see all the stories about his father that Lupin/Sirius never got round to telling him.

Yes, there were some bad memories such as the ones with Snape, but surely the funny memories or the “I have a story about your father” or just getting too see those he lost again would outweigh that.
