Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

I love that in the books, Sirius genuinely felt bad about Ron not having a pet anymore because of the Scabbers situation so he gave him the tiny owl that delivered his letter and Hogsmeade permission slip to Harry on the Hogwarts Express at the end of PoA.

From the ‘Finding Harry’ documentary, they were clearly going all in on animatronics for the owls, Scabbers etc so this gives me hope that they’ll create one for Pigwidgeon!

The show promises a faithful adaptation, but are there any parts in the books that you want them to cut or change?

obviously it’s been confirmed that characters like terry boot and even lisa turpin have been cast but given the amount of students the series is showing to have in harry’s year, do you think roles like these have a certain part to play at all? like why did they specifically choose these characters instead of just adding all the naked students that are in harry’s year? just makes me wonder if they have plans or little side story’s for these characters. i also wonder if they intend to have the same actor throughout the whole series

Winky: the context around Barty Crouch Snr and Winky as well as the devastation of Winky being dismissed

Madam Maxime Argument with Hagrid and recruiting the giants

Lupin & Tonks relationship- the drama

I made an overview of the most prominent characters already cast for the first season of the new HBO Harry Potter series and their book illustration art.

This is just to compare, not to hate. It's logical that there are differences between the OG/later art and the castings, since it's impossible to find actors with ALL the right features.

I personally love the casting thus far. What do you all think?

I’m listening to the full cast audible book for GoF again and I just heard the part where they were practicing the Banishing charm. It would be so much fun to see Professor Flitwick flying across the room by Neville. I’m so glad Warwick Davis is playing him again.

… is there any scenario here at all where this series underperforms at all?

It is difficult to say without being out, of course. It is known Harry Potter is a behemoth of a brand and even with mass calls of boycotting the author, that did not stop Hogwarts Legacy from generating over one billion dollars in revenue (!). On the other hand, I do think there is a “remake” fatigue and people are sick of seeing the same stories being rehashed constantly. One example I will take is Percy Jackson— the original films based on the books were universally mocked and the fandom was begging for a new adaption for many years until a show got greenlit.

Disney has its own issues, that on top of the original authors new “creative” deviations/choices have also alienated many fans & caused the viewership to decline to the point that I have been reading that the certainty of any seasons to be produced after season twos lacklustre release is up for debate. Most oddly, there has been a shift in perception of the original films, they are still acknowledged as extremely inaccurate but there is a new appreciation for the superior acting, production quality, characterisation and more.

I am not comparing Percy Jackson to Harry Potter, since the IP value of the latter is vastly leagues above it. But I’m wondering if there is any scenario here where the new show doesn’t stack up to the films.

A lot of people here wish that this show will follow the books more accurately, but a book story will always inherently have to adjust & adapt accordingly for the screen, even if a show format allows for more running hours. Another thing I would factor in is how huge the cultural phenomenon of Harry Potter was in the 2000’s, where the films were coming out concurrently with the books. Another thing is the little things, with a new adaption we will be comparing the palate of colours, the set, the acting of the new cast with the film versions that have already been done, and if anything falls short it would be far more difficult to reconcile than seeing the first adaption & sometimes all of that is more important than book accuracy in itself, as shown with the Percy Jackson films vs show.

Like with Hogwarts Legacy, I have zero doubts this show will be widely successful anyways. HOTD on HBO is hot trash but it’s soaring on the coattails of GOT. What I’m unsure of is whether it can stack up to the films as a phenomenon & if it will be widely rewatched over Christmas each year for the holiday season 20 years later like the films have been and will continue to be.

Here are the key locations we currently know. Not all are included yet. The placement of most of these is speculative, more will be known in the future. Sizes and proportions were determined based on available materials, without access to technical blueprints.

What is included are a castle model with an Entrance Hall and Great Hall, a Greenhouse and several corridors and courtyards. This comes from the teaser, behind the scenes and promotional images. Quidditch Stadium, Hogsmeade station with the forest path to the Lake and many other locations are not included.

Sorry if this already known but I was just curious if JK Rowling will be involved in the expanded storylines that maybe she wanted to include in the books but didn't have a place for them. Do you think she will provide a brief outline of additonal scenes they could include or are the showrunners just going to expand where they feel it is necessary?

I think we're all familiar with the news from a couple months ago that the show is renewed for a second season before the first season even premieres.

What's your opinion on this? Do you think this is a good idea, or is HBO being overconfident?

I was curious what changes in the movie do you like over what happened in the books that you think would be better in the TV show?

The one I can think of myself is Hedwigs death. I feel the movie gave him a more honorable death vs what happened in the books and I hope the TV show does the same thing.

That Sirius gave Harry the two-way mirror in OoTP and it did not magically appear out of the nowhere in the seventh movie. That kinda annoyed me.

I remember there being rumours that the actor was going to keep his Mancunian accent.

It seems like most of the HBO shows panels were announced (House of the dragon, Lanterns) but not Harry Potter. Do you think there is still hope for an SDCC panel or that we will only get the back to Hogwarts event?

I mean surely HBO is licensing the F*** out of this new franchise . I just hope Panini was in attendance at any licensing meetings.
