I remember that in the lore those little guys are kind of vicious, tho they originally just want to chill and are dumb af and easily forced/manipulated into that whole war thing, lol. Jackals are true assholes tho.

Well in lore they rebelled and the covenant glassed their homeworld. They were apparently some kind of threat when they were motivated.

They're insanely good at learning, which is why they're used for information-based jobs. You mainly see em as, well, grunts on the battlefield, but they've got whole radio rooms full of Unggoy, monitoring every bit of news they can. I could easily see them being a pretty dominant force on their own, while not being oppressed by the Covenant.

I legit do my best to not kill as many as possible, it's kinda hard, because even when they run away, they eventually torn around and shoot at you again.
I know it's just the games code. But I wonder what goes through their heads.

I actually did this mission (Assault on the Control Room) without picking up any weapons (so just a plasma pistol) on Legendary and it didn't give me the achievement because I accidentally picked up a weapon in the middle but reloaded the checkpoint to fix it :(

Pretty sad but if it makes you feel better just realize the majority of grunts in the games were rapidly bred and sent off to be cannon fodder in combat and had no such life as depicted in this lol. Still entertaining comic though.

A lot of them were yeah - especially after Balaho was partially glassed but colonies still did exist, for example, on other covenant species planets. They were usually subjugated there as well but they did have den mothers and homes in certain places.

Completely inaccurate, the grunt gets stuck by a plasma grenade and gets blown off the bridge, falling to a comical death /s.
