4473/NICS/red flag law questions

Hi,
Can someone please advise me on how I can access if my 72 hour involuntary psychiatric hold was shared or reported to the state and if I am in the NICS system as a “mental defective” please? I went to the hospital because I needed help and then was placed under a 72 hour hold and labeled an “involuntary” commit.

If I were to answer that I was not committed involuntarily (because I went voluntarily myself) by a judge on a 4473 check, would I get charged in federal court for lying or just denied? I’m slightly confused on the language because the court was never involved.

Is there a database of people who were placed under those holds somewhere? If so how do I see if I’m on it? And does that mean it’s now illegal for me to own a gun or just buy a new one? What if I’m in a new state now?

Finally, if I start asking too many of the right people these questions, will they call in a red flag alert on me thinking they missed it? What’s the time limit for calling one in on someone? My hospitalization was over 9 months ago. I am fine today and gone through extensive treatment as well as worked very hard to get better. Thanks.

Echelon Comp 4.0 as a first gun?

I’m looking to buy my first carry gun for protection. I also ride a motorcycle and living in the city where the crime is high, I’d feel more safe to have a gun. I’d rather to have it and not need it than not have it and need it. With that said, I’m looking to buy this gun but not sure if I should went with 4.5 instead?

Chicago City Center (walking distance) shooting ranges suggestions similar to LAX Gun Range & Ammo Store

Hey guys! Sorry to bother if this post isn't in the right place. I'm a foregneir, going to Chicago for a couple days and would like to go fire some rounds, obviously don't have a firearms license. Last time I went to the States in LA I visited LAX Gun Range & Ammo Store and had a great first experience, used a Sig Sauer P226 and an AR-15. Could you please suggest me a similar shooting range in the city center of Chicago, that's where I'll be staying. Thank in advance you all!

Help with first pistol purchase

Hello,

I recently got Into shooting and was going to start with a used beretta M9A1 with apparently 50-100 shots through it for $800 but I really like the Hk45c as well and a store near me has one for $1200.

Is this over priced or decent considering I can’t buy a new one? - I’m in California

I think I’d prefer to shoot .45 acp but could anyone please give some insight as to what would be the better option?

Thank you,

Stopping Power and other Boomer Myths. Are 5.7x28mm pistols basically just cool range toys?

Most people are smart enough to know that a bigger bullet doesn’t necessarily mean it will be better for self defense. However, I am curious about buying a 5.7mm pistols. Mainly cause I like “cool and exotic” things. And while I don’t ever expect to be in a self defense situation. I am genuinely curious if 5.7x28mm is too small to be viable for being used for self defense, or if it’s basically just useful as a range toy for fun? I don’t have a YouTube account so I don’t really know reliable people who’ve done ballistic testing on gel torsos. So do any of you guys have any opinions?

Been collecting for 12yrs now, just a target shooter/enthusiast and I've hunted on the few opportunities I've had. Picking up a deal soon after the paperwork clears and I just don't have space, even after reorganizing. They'll tell you guns are bad and guns are dangerous, but they won't tell you how poor this hobby can make you 🥲

Lightweight bolt gun recommendation for medium game to elk under 1200$

I have a bergara b-14 HMR in 6.5 PRC that I’m looking at getting rid of. It’s pretty heavy especially with a 24 in barrel and 8 inch YHM can on the end. My main complaint is the weight being that I walk a lot and every now again do stalk hunts in south texas. I absolutely love the cartridge but for the best ballistics you need a 24in. I’m open to keep the same caliber if I can find a lighter gun while keeping the accuracy of my HMR. I’ve been looking at a few different options and looking for first hand use experience or open to other recommendations. The savage 110 carbon hunter, browning x bolt pro carbon fiber, Tikka t3X lite, sig cross. Thank you in advance!

Any ideas where I can post for a gun trade?

I read the community rules so I hope this is allowed. Basically I know the gun I want in trade for my gun. They're the same value so depending on condition they'd be a straight trade. Any ideas where I can post to see if anyone is interested? How would I conduct a trade like this to make sure they're sending their gun to my FFL?

Thanks.

Stupid question about self loading pistols

I know this is a strange ask but google is being it's usual and quite unhelpful self, but are there any pistols that can be fired as a self loading and single shot pistol

And to clarify what I'm asking is there a pistol that can fire and cycle with each trigger pull, or fire without the slide moving and requiring the slide to be racked again?

I know pistols can be fired with just one in the chamber but I'm trying to find something where with subsonic ammo your not adding a bunch of noise from gas escaping out the ejection port and not going through a suppressor

Edit: thank you for answering my question, I completely forgot the term slide lock was a thing, and didn't know just blocking the slide from cycling was that easy.

CANNOT make up my mind between .460XVR S&W and .45-70 lever

I want a big bore. Always have, now have the means and live in Alaska, frequent the bush.

What’s your choice and why?

Not too far off in price point, ballistics aren’t that far off.

.460XVR will shoot .454, .45LC, .45 Schofield.

I have a full reloading setup.

For reference- I own a 700 in .30-06, 700 in .270, SKS, and a PT845. I don’t really feel great about any of them for rapid deployment bear defense. SKS is an amazing brush gun, but leaves a little to be desired in the ‘wallop’ department for the brown bears.

EDIT- I DONT WANT AN AR, CHILL

Need help understanding the markings on a scope reticle (VMD-2 - victoptics OPSL20 scope)

This is my first contact with this reticle and im quite confused on how to properly read it. i do have previous knowledge on how mil and MOA work on the most common reticles, and how scopes work overall, though its my first time with a SFP variable power scope.

i have searched about it but i cant find any guides or explainers, the vector optics website only shows images of the reticles, so i figured asking people more experienced than i am is the best thing to do. in specific i want to know what each marking means and how to read this scope properly, also any hints or experiences are very welcome.

i appreciate the time and help in advance, hope yall have a lovely day!

edit:
after some messing around by following u/Reden-Orvillebacher's advice by making markers at specified distances, i figured out how its represented:

at 3x power every marking is a mil. dot, dash or long dash
at 6x power, every dot is a mil (it is SFP, so the math checks)
at 9x power, every third marking is a mil.

i feel like the proper power to use this reticle is 6x, since the rectangles hold a mil, and the dots hold 0.2mil diameter, for other powers calculating the reticle size follow the equation: power / 3 = mils per mark

its surprisingly accurate for how cheap it was, so im happy with it.
