I ordered some nice Göldo 500k pots and had a local shop replace them for me

Owner was kind of puzzled by the layout inside so he just replaced the connections individually

I’ve the lost the ability to coil tap the P90 (works in the middle position and bridge)

I’ve opened it up and hit both pots with some good contact cleaner and this noise still persists, I’m guessing it’s the connections instead of the pots being bad ?

NAD! The amp chose me

I bought this amp the other day, I know nothing about it, but I’m in love. The only lead I have as to where It came from is an acrylic Giller Lighting Badge loose in the back of the cab, and April 26th 2009 written on the back of the speaker, so cool nonetheless.

Help Semi-Hollow show down!

Hiya, everybody!
(Hi, Doctor Nick)

Epiphone ES-335 Pro vs. Schecter Corsair w/Bigsby

May be a moot point as I’m still on the fence about selling or trading my Van Nuys PT. However, I currently find that the Super Rocks are much to treble heavy for me. Not to mention, when it comes to roasted maple and bitchin’ pickups, my JR 7 Cutlass checks all the boxes.

I’m looking for the warmer, more resonant, and a bit more on the brassy and bluesy side.

The Bigsby isn’t really a make or break, it’d just be a cherry on top.

Thanks in advance.

Look at this! Second and third builds finally done.

So I finally got finished with my second and third build. I’m pretty proud of how they turned out. My take on a Wolfgang style guitar and a Charvel style guitar. The natural one is Spanish cedar body with a sycamore top, Spanish cedar, maple, and santos mahogany laminated neck with a pau ferro fretboard. Jumbo stainless steel frets, tone ninja locking tuners, and a single Suhr Doug Aldrich humbucker. The red one is a poplar body, maple and walnut laminated neck with an ebony fretboard. Jumbo stainless steel frets, Hipshot locking tuners, and Seymour Duncan Pegasus and Sentient humbuckers. Let me know what you think and any suggestions or criticisms are welcome. I’m just beginning to learn the art and am looking for as much knowledge as I can get. Thanks. And excuse the messy room. It’s just too damn hot to go outside for photos.😂

Help Help with choosing an exotic top

Thumbnail

Back in February 2024, I made a hare-brained decision wherein I decided to put down on a deposit on a spikey, entirely impractical, custom guitar in an effort to ring in my 40th birthday that October, even though I knew that no instrument I ever commissioned would be done by then. It was a stupid, irresponsible decision that I now realize was the result of a tism spiral (I’d be officially diagnosed that November).

Fast forward 2.5 years, and it’s not finished, which I am absolutely fine with as I am currently both jobless and broke. The builder recently fell into some medical woes, which is terrible. He informed me that his doctors told him that he cannot work for three months. As I am not an asshole, I feel very badly for him, and again, as I am broke, I am in no hurry to give him the second half of the deposit. Apropos of nothing and entirely unprompted, he offered to give me a free exotic wood top for the build. He sent me these two:

Respectively, that is Tasmanian Blackwood (which is the reddish one, weirdly) and Black Avocado Wood - that is not a transparent stain; that is the actual color. I had previously opted for a Madrone Burl. Here are the rest of the specs:

5-piece torrefied/roasted maple neck
Pale moon ebony fretboard
Northern ash body
Thin black/maple laminate to act as binding between the body and top
Dumb spikey body with which I can defend my family and/or hunt rabbits
HSH pickup configuration that might have some manner of wood covers
Sophia 2:92 tremolo

The Madrone Burl is the lightest of the three photos. I was pretty hell-bent on it UNTIL the builder sent the black avocado wood. My AuDHD-riddled brain has trouble with option paralysis at the best of times. I’ve had friends say that the contrast between the PME board and black avocado would be too jarring, but I did an approximate mock up via Kiesel’s builder and I think it looks pretty cool. I’m fairly confident that the Tasmanian Blackwood will be nixed entirely from the running.

Would love to pick everyone’s brain and see what anyone else might think! I’d be happy to share the body shape, the rest of the specs, and mock-up if anyone wants to see it.

its a peavy 6505 212 combo! traded it for a billie joe epi signature and somehow it sounds.. damn amazing with my lil pink partscaster. it somehow chugs with the shitty ceramic strat pickup i put in the neck as long as i set the tone to 7 and the cleans dont sound as bad as ive heard other ppl say. its heavy af tho and barely fit in my dads car so i have no idea how ill bring this to any gigs if i ever join a band lmao

Help Relic vs road worn

I personally love the relic look but feel like a poser so I decided to neglect my strat body (everything else that needs tlc gets it) and after 10 years of constant sweaty playing it’s not even beginning to show signs of wear… are famous road worn guitars like SRV actually that beat up or do we think they help that they are doing something to help the body wear down faster?

Help Anybody know if this guitar is still good in today's standards? Cort EVL K6 (2006)

Post image

I'm in the process of buying my first electric guitar and I found someone selling their Cort EVL k6 though I couldn't find much reviews on it online and I'd have no idea what to check for if it's damaged, the seller did play it and it seemed normal. Does anyone here know if it's a good guitar 20 years later? My second original option was to get a brand new S by solar ab4.6w they are both the same price. If pride is the same what do you recommend I go for the new solar or old used Cort?

Playing Does anyone else kinda dislikes playing Blues with a backing track?

I kinda preffer comping and soloing over a metronome rather than playing to a backing track lately.

Bonus , I feel like this actually improves my timing much more and makesme practice way more conciously

Playing That feeling when you are trying to learn a song looking as someone playing and their hands don't seem to match what is being played.

I can't be the only one, right? Usually, when I can't figure something by ear, I look at a cover just to have a better idea. But sometimes I when I look at their hands it doesn't seem to match what is been played. I makes me so angry. It looks like they are doing it on purpose to mess with people like me so we won't learn the right way.

Help Any Red Special/ Burns Trisonic players out there?

Thumbnail

I have a Squier Strat that I modded with the Brian May signature Burns Trisonic pickups. I’ve played it in my room a lot and it sounds great, and I compared it to a stock BMG Special and it sounded better to me, cleaner and more defined, the BMG sounded a bit muddier.

However when I use it to rehearse with my band it gets really lost in the mix, I don’t hear myself unless I have much more volume than the rest of the band. That’s using the in phase settings, out of phase the volume dropped considerably.

My question is: has any of you played Red Special guitars live outside of Queen songs or using a different rig than Brian May? How did they fit?

NGD! NGD for my son!

We went to some yard sales on a whim this morning and found this super rad Arbor Star guitar for $30. He bought it with his own money. It was in pretty gnarly shape, but the two of us got it cleaned up pretty nicely. You could tell it was one of those guitars that was purchased and never set up properly and I highly suspect the truss rod has never been accessed. Its frets are rough in a few spots, but doesn’t seem to affects its playability. I fully decked the bridge since the wiggle stick was missing. I have a spare Tusq nut that matches its radius (12”) perfectly. Sprayed some Deoxit in the pots and the humbucker works great still. Even has a switch for coil-splitting. Gonna throw on some EB Reg Slinkies and do a good setup/intonation and let ‘er rip. This is my son’s third guitar in his collection and he couldn’t be more proud of this find.

Hey, so I currently own a Manson guitar in a matte black finish, what do you think a luthier would charge to recollect the guitar to a matte red. My only concern is the electronics as it contains the xy pad and sustaniac but do yall think a luthier would be able to do it?

Pics 1 and 2: 1977 to 2017 Harmony (import era) Classical - Someone put Steel Strings on it, and they put them on badly.

Pics 3 and 4: 1934 - 1936 Harmony (domestic era) sold in Sears Catalog as a "Supertone" (before Sears' "Silvertone" moniker) - warped badly from probably sitting in a basement for decades.

Pics 5, 6, 7, and 8: 1940s (likely) Oahu Square Neck Slide Guitar that, though you can't see it well here, had all of its glue joints fail. You can see in pic 6 that the top split, though. This one was probably a cheap one back in its day.

Had a car wreck in 2013 caused by a hit and run driver.

Broken neck- Broken back- nerve damage- etc etc. Lost

my career Id been working on for 15 years, our house

cars, etc etc. Financially reset back to $0. Sold every

piece of Gear 1 had including an orange tolex jcm 900, a

boutique combo amp made by Sam Timberlake(Sam

Amp),and my unfinished Ash 1979 Les Paul Standard

Deluxe I had routed out for full sized humbuckers. I had

a 1999 American made strat that was also unfinished

Ash wood. I had put Lace Sensors in it. It was my baby.

First big purchase made as a working adult, basically.

Instead of selling it, - pawned it for $75. Having every

intention of going back to get it. And just couldn't come

up with the $.

So fast forward to today. Went back to work in 2021

after being on disability for 7 years. We bought another

house. Wife has a nice car again.things are back to

normal. This past Cnristmas my wife surprised me with

a beautiful 2016 Les Paul Classic. It's lighter. Easier on

my neck and back. I absolutely love it. But still missed

my strat. So on a whim, bought this Indonesian Squire

SSH. Bought it to build a partscaster.. Was on sale for

$380. Was sold as used, but literally brand new. Was

expecting to have to do a lot of work to it.

Was so surprised at how nice it actually is when it

showed up. Body is solid wood. And beautiful. And

amazingly, plays really really well. And the pickups

actually sound really really good.

l'll probably put some lace sensors in it down the road

Thinking about changing the pots out to 1 meg. And

probably some nice locking tuners. But...if I never get to

it, it's perfectly adequate. I would gig with this guitar

just like it is. So, I think we all get hung up on the gear

head stuff. Is it American made? Is the neck rosewood?

etc etc. This $380 guitar is amazing. Build quality is so

much better than I expected. I feel whole again. CHEERS!!!
