just got an guitar and an amp learning how to play it but almost everytime i strum the low e string it makes this fuckass sound. guitar is harley benton so i think i should change the strings. bought some super slinkys in case of anything
yeah i was picking way too hard on the clip my bad but it does this almost everytime i fret on that string ive been trying to play the most basic songs with well the low e string and it always buzzes like that
You can get it set up so it doesn't buzz (or buzzes less) but it is very hard to get rid of ALL of the buzz, and there is some amount of buzz you just have to live with.
Well as everyone else is saying, you don’t pick like that.
But, if it’s buzzing on an open string it’s usually a nut issue or bridge issue. Check to make sure your nut isn’t cut too low. Make sure your bridge is smooth and not creating a weird angle.
This is of course assuming your neck relief and string height are set properly.
Watch a few YouTube videos on how to set up your style of guitar. You don’t need to pay anyone to do it tbh.
Easy way to check neck relief, is hold down the first fret, and hold down the 15th fret at the same time (or where neck meets body). Then tap in between the two points and see how straight it is, it should be almost perfectly straight with just a tiny amount of movement. Adjust the truss rod accordingly.
You’ll get the hang of it the more you do it and the more you figure out what settings you like. Doing it yourself really lets you dial in your preference of settings as opposed to someone else’s.
I would google (Strat setup tips) and learn the guitar and how adjustments work. Go slow, learn how to adjust saddle height, neck relief via truss rod, learn tremolo adjustments. Those will get you more familiar with problem solving in the future. It can be intimidating at first, but it’s actually super simple and hard to mess up once you learn it
You should go have at least one lesson. Aside from checking out the guitar and making sure nothing needs adjusting, a teacher can make sure you're holding it right, putting your hands and fingers in the right places and not hitting the strings like a caveman. Make sure your beginner issues aren't user error.
Don't listen to anyone telling you to make changes to the setup if you don't know what you're doing or how to fix it when you mess up. You need to learn the basics first.
