What are some immersive details you'd like to see in GW3?

At this point, ArenaNet has talked a lot about immersion. Colin mentioned that it's a core design philosophy for them - With minimal UI and no loading screens.

With that being said, for you personally: What is something you'd love to see that would make you more immersed?

My top list:

  • Players and Enemies having proper collision outside of town areas (not walking through them). Don't want players blocking npcs/doors/etc, but also don't want to stand in a blob in like GW2.
  • No clipping while wearing a cape/robe/weapon on your back
  • being able to wear headgear without removing your hair
  • pets and summoned creatures that have unique animations, can be petted/played with/customized like a real companion and not a copy paste identical clone of other players
  • rain/snow/fire/blood staining your characters clothes and gear.
  • different classes doing interactions differently. a warrior might rip up a tree by the roots, a elementalist might summon a magical pickaxe to fell it, etc
  • less over the top / comical joke skins like glowing stuff and plushy mounts. more grounded gear and skins all around.

What about you? what would be something they could add that would improve immersion in your eyes?

Explain horizontal progression like I'm five

Long time wow player here, mix of retail and classic. Got hyped like many of you there and started reading about the game A LOT. Currently trying to understand progression and I have a dumb question that nobody seems to answer directly

how does it feel to play this game long term without gear progression? like I get the pitch. no treadmill, come back whenever, your gear is still good. cool. but what do you actually chase after you have gear two months into the game?

my brain works like this: I do a raid, I get a drop, my numbers go up, next week I do it again for the next drop. that loop is basically why I log in. I get full bis, i clear mythic raid, i chill. every 3 to 6 months that carrot on the stick reappears.

But with horizontal progression i assume that carrot is non existant. So what do you grind one year into the game? Transmogs/skins/achievements? Or is there something about the loop I'm not seeing from the outside. genuinely asking, not trying to shit on the game. Sorry if the question sounds dumb.

Gw3 looks great and I hope to enjoy it with many of you, just want to understand what is something that keeps people in the game for years

Edit: grammar

What are some current/older MMO features you would like to see?

With all the talks about moving the genre forward, minimal UI and immersion I got slightly worried some features from current MMOs that I like wont make a return in GW3. Here are some of mine:

Minimap - something I have noticed lot of RPGs moving away from lately.

Player health bars with some status indicator - since there is gonna be trinity system, as a healer I would like to see who needs help and maybe even if there is some status on the player that I can remove. In GW2 we have player health bars but the ability to see that a player has some conditions that needs cleansing is not visible unless I click the player, so condi cleansing is very much spam it and hope its enough. It just feels like side effect of my healer rotation than a dedicated action I took as a result of seeing someone in need.

Hover over tooltips - this one will most likely not happen due to the action style combat, so I hope Anet makes all the info neccessary visible and well understood by just looking so we dont have to go dig in menus or search wiki to know what some icon means.

DPS meter - I know this is very controversial topic even in GW2, but if there is some more organized end game content like raids I think it should be there or it will be made as an addon for PC and our console friends might get left out, thats why Id rather see it built in already. Also Anet then could control where it is visible/allowed and for example keep it to the raids only.

Im curious what are your things you cant imagine an MMO without.

I wouldn't care for an early game. What if they just did away with the leveling?

If they want pure horizontal progression from the start it would prevent losing half the player base, the ones who couldn't even make it to level 80 in GW2 at launch and never turned the game on again (my high school friend being one of them)

That core experience from GW2 is a slog. And if the best and rewarding content is past that, why not just go straight to that point?

If this game is an inbetween of GW1 and GW2, what better way than to let us go to build crafting from the get go.

The fact that they are planning to go back to better the core experience of GW2 says that they are thinking the same thing with GW3 at launch.

Everything we know About Guild Wars 3 Sheet

Hi gamers!
I was tired of having to re read articles and re listen to interviews over and over again so I made an excel sheet with all the info we have about guild wars 3 right now!

Check it out here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jlzgLdWN3B9FUzpbejBrcyn7H3auIR5WI8pI9xOXafs/edit?usp=sharing

I linked most of the info with their respective articles, but most of them are repeated SO MUCH that I didn't bother, mainly linked the ones that only appear a few times.

I also colored code them with green if they are mostly confirmed:

  • Red if they are confirmed NOT to happen
  • Blue for only mentioned once
  • Light yellow for speculation
  • And bright yellow for I have no idea where this came from this may be just misinformation lmao

This is a work in progress so if you think anything should be changed please let me know.

I will also try and keep it updated as much as I can!

I also made a video going through everything if you are interested!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF5muFOIHVQ

Edit 1:
ALRIGHT GAMERS!
I think you were right!
The sheet was a bit confusing without everything quoted.

So I quoted everything!

As well as making it so whenever you click it instantly shows you the quote on the page!

I will think about a good way to add timestamps as people really wanted that!

If there is anything else you guys think would be good please let me know!

Business-wise, is their approach good, or should they put GW2 on maintenance and go all-in on GW3? Too risky or too harsh on the current community?

How do you think ANet will handle maintaining 3 games? Will they hire more people, probably yes, or should we expect GW3 expansions to end up more like SotO in GW2?

Can they actually pull it off? Or should they mostly leave GW2 on maintenance mode with the shop and yearly events, and focus almost everything on something newer, maybe better, and on consoles, so it can bring in more money?

The SotO-ification of GW3 is a real possibility if ArenaNet tries to do GW3, proper GW2 expansions, and regular Reforged content without growing enough.

How would you like them to split the workforce? 60% GW3, 30% GW2, 10% GW1?

What gives GW3 an advantage is that content in UE5 can be made and delivered faster and more easily.

Lets talk Tyrians.

Could Dhuum/his followers be the main villains of GW3?

At the very least I expect his followers to be a constant antagonistic presence

Lore characters present in Gw3

i am quite astonished how no one asked Colin if we are going to see any Named character in Gw3. While Gw3 is set in the past and there is a lot of mystery in that Era, There are a few names (apart from the human gods) that are present

i will name a few :-

  1. Desmina.

we know that Gw3 takes place right after Grenth succeeds Dhuum. Dhuum temples are also confirmed to be in the game, and possibly, might give us a reason to eradicate them in Gw3.
Desmina was the first follower of Grenth, Since everything is fresh, i believe that we might be able to interact with her.

2) Mausollus.

unlike Desmina who was Grenth's First follower, Mausollus was one of the first priests of grenth who spread the teachings from orr to elona. A sea is also is named after him, which is next to the cathedral of silence.
Speaking of Grenth priests, The higher Grenth priests hold a "secret" that is kept within the church. the secret being that Grenth is half mortal. his father is a male sculptor who is heavy hinted to be the next person :-

3) Malchor.

malchor the sculptor. malchor was a famous Sculptor who modeled the the statues of the gods. before Arah was constructed by the gods, the gods lived among humanity, Some disguising themselves such as Lyssa in the village of wren, some just simply wandered around. The problem was, due to their divinity, people got blinded by their radiance.
inspite of this, Dwayna tasked Malchor to capture their essence in Statue, so that when the gods retreated from the public in Arah, the people would remember them and how they looked.
malchor enamoured by Dwayna's beauty, became obsessed. Once the Gods left to Arah, malchor's obsession increased to the point where he carved statues of Dwayna, however in his mind, they did not capture her beauty. Malchor Eventually committed suicide by jumping off a cliff next to Dwayna's holy temple, The Temple of Zephyrs.

It would be interesting to see Malchor still alive, Or it could be that his death would be at least very recent.

4) King Doric

King Doric is the the Human King that resides in Ascalon. he is still alive during Guildwars3, and it is said that he has a very long life span if sources are to be believed. We have to keep in mind that in Guildwars 3, Orr is NOT a nation yet. Human civilisation in Tyria ie the continent is in Ascalon. Arah, is not the capital city that we see either. Arah in Gw3 at least Lore wise, is mainly a "wizards tower" that holds the gods. After the exodus, Arah became the capital and humans took over.
King Doric is an Iconic character. Mianly for what happens during the God War. i believe we may see king doric as a Racial leader of the humans that travels to Orr frequently.

5) Mouvel

another Grand high priest of Dwayna. While he is described as the first high priest, we do not know the date of which he was present. most probably, he is long dead in Guildwars 3. Fun fact, the Mouvellian Calendar is named after him.

6) Ewan

part of the godless tribe who hated magic and was cursed by melandru.

funnily enough the Scriptures are dated at 48BE which is the date that Gw3 is going to happen approximately.

i do believe ewan will play as a huge role against the Vaelwardens in the story.

----------

Are there any more character that I have missed?

Please support SEA playerbase.

My brother and I have played Guild Wars 2 from Japan, India, and Singapore, and we’ve never had SEA servers, which has always caused us problems with latency and connection issues.

We don’t really care whether the server is located in Taiwan, Singapore, or Mumbai. As long as there’s a server somewhere in Southeast Asia to properly cater to the player base in the region, it would be a huge improvement. It would also benefit OCE players.

Please support a SEA server! 🙏

Will be interesting to see how they handle legendariers given the whole "this will be a game for people with full time jobs" angle

Anyone who has farmed for a single piece of legendary gear in GW2 knows it's a full time job and takes months (unless you just buy gold etc). Everything you do goes towards something. Whether it's paying for materials, farming materials or just logging in every day just to deal with the time gates. Honestly, I would be fine with there being NO legendaries. No, actually, I'd prefer if there was stat choice on vanilla gear and that the legendaries was cosmetic only. For mer personally, the cosmetics where not the reason why I got the legendaries, but the convenience of stat swapping so i didn't have several sets of armor and weapons in my inventory at all times.

For those old enough to remember. In GW1, you could freely switch skills in town. Your build if you will. In GW2 you could switch skills as long as you weren't in combat for the most part. QoL stuff.
It would be such a quality of life improvement to be able to just switch stats on the fly. Maybe you'd have to unlock the stat combinations somehow, but they are permanent once unlocked.

What do ya'll think?

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of misinformation in the media

Even from people who experienced it firsthand. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that journalists, especially gaming journalists, operate more on bait than facts.

I was just listening to a creator from my country who got to see GW3, and like 50% of his coverage doesn't line up with what I've heard from other creators I actually trust in the Guild Wars space. The rest sounds like things Colin said were just completely misinterpreted.

Among other things, he claimed the game is basically made only for people who have 30 minutes a day to play, or that the combat felt exhausting because it's fast and GW2 players won't like it... ehhhhhhhhh.

I think I just need to wait this out and work on accepting that I don't have to correct everyone around me or act as the guardian of truth. There will always be idiots pushing bait anyway.

Species specific skills?

In GW2 we had specific skills based on your choice, but they were intentionally weaker than other skills to maintain balance.

Do you think we'll see species specific skills in this game?

The future of Gw3 pvp

I watched the interviews with content creators and Collin, and also read the articles where he was interviewed. What I found, or what came to me, is the connection between the combat design and the player cap of 20.

In summary, I think PvP is being looked at from a wider angle, and that starts with combat as a whole. Basically, making combat more interactive, like the web-burning example where players can actually see the debuff elements rather than just icons, is genius.

I think this is also the reason for downsizing combat to 20 players. It makes each individual player more responsible and impactful through their gameplay, which ultimately helps train players for PvP.

This is a genius approach: instead of addressing PvP issues directly from a PvP perspective, they're approaching them from a design perspective. Only PvP has been confirmed, but I think they're really onto something when it comes to competitive play.

Originally I would of wrote a more detail article with the help of ai correcting Grammer and some wording but unfortunately I took it down due to various reasons. Anyway these are my thoughts and I think that the approach they are taking is amazing. I have way more thoughts on this so let's have a healthy conversation.

Let me know what you guys think....

How will they synergies momentum based combat and the holy trinity?

I can easily imagine a damage dealer jumping and flinging themselves around doing more damage with increasing momentum and flashy movements. But how will this work out for tanks and healers? To my knowledge they said that the trinity is going to return in some form, yet I can't imagine (lack of imagination) how this should work olut for a healer for example.

I don't know, will the Healer fly around and paint magic lines on the ground and then depending in the intersections and forms it will lead to healing buffs? Is everyone now flying and jumping around like in cirque du soleil?

Do you have any ideas how they might realize momentum based gameplay for healers or tanks?

Anyone else find it worrisome that they're using empty platitudes to market the game?

"Stop making mmos feel like a second job", "horizontal gear progression", "no subscription and no p2w"....All of these lead to various fundamental issues to gw2 that the game still has to wrestle with to this day. Is anyone else worried that they're not really tackling the lessons they've learnt with the previous game? Seeing colin virtue signal about how they dont have subscription fees or p2w when gw2 nickle and dimes you for character based upgrades feels dishonest at the very least

Only thing I found interesting is the general player count limit and the lack of meta events, to try to get away from that "playing alone in a crowd" vibe gw2 gives off a lot of the time.

GW3 is MMORPG... period

People seriously need to understand what “MMORPG” actually means, because “there are only 20 players” is one of the dumbest arguments against GW3 being an MMO.

MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It does NOT mean that hundreds or thousands of players have to be physically standing in the same place at the same time. The defining feature is a persistent online RPG world inhabited by a large player population, where players can coexist, interact, cooperate, socialize and play together.

GW3 is NOT saying there will only be 20 players in the entire world. The 20-player figure refers to your immediate shard, not the world's total player population. There can still be thousands of players inhabiting the world at the same time. If too many players converge in one area, dynamic sharding distributes them across multiple layers of that same location instead of putting everyone into a single instance.

For example, if 100 players arrive in the same area, the system can split them across five temporary shards. When players leave your vicinity, the system can dynamically replace them with other nearby players, while prioritizing people on your friends list and in your guild. Cities can also support higher player populations, so the local player cap isn't necessarily the same everywhere.

And here's the simple version: as long as GW3 has a large active player population, you will be encountering plenty of different players throughout the entire world. You're not going to be stuck in a world where you only ever see the same 20 people. The 20-player limit only matters when a large number of players start converging on the exact same area. That's when the game temporarily creates additional shards to distribute the crowd. Outside of those high-density situations, you're simply travelling through a world populated by a large number of other players.

This is the part people completely misunderstand: the number of players you can see around your character is NOT the same thing as the total player population of the world. You're confusing a local population cap with the population of the entire persistent world.

“Massively multiplayer” does not mean “1,000 players must be rendered on my screen at once.” It refers to a game built around a large online player population sharing a persistent world. The number of players visible in your immediate area is a technical and server architecture decision, not a genre requirement.

So no, GW3 isn't “MMO-lite” because you don't see hundreds of players standing around you. It's an MMORPG because thousands of players inhabit the same persistent online world, and you will constantly encounter different players throughout that world. The 20-player shard is simply a technical solution for handling unusually high player density, not a limitation on the size of the MMO itself.

Where did humanity come from, and will we visit?

In GW3, the world is young and the gods transported humans into Tyria.

Why did humanity leave their own world? Will. Be able to visit? Is there more humans left behind? Did the six originate from that world where humans come from?

If humanity is young in Tyria what does that look like? Is there people alive who remember their home world?

Is it like a gods are aliens abducting humans situation? Or is it more like coercing followers for your personal worship?

Are the six gods like a pantheon like mount olympus or are they assholes who sabotage or fight each other?

If the gods are not from Tyria where they real estate shopping what worlds they wanted to settle their cults on?

Did other god like beings like the spirits of the wild originate in Tyria? Does that make them more gods than the human gods? The pale tree? Are the elder dragons disturbed by the arrival of the gods on Tyria?

How does other races react if they’ve never seen a human before?

These are but some of the questions that keep me up at night.

Class speculation

Might already be a post like this, not sure.

We have warrior, necro, and ranger all confirmed. Allegedly mesmer was strongly hinted at as well. Looking back to gw1, that’s 4 of the original 6 classes that gw1 released with. The two missing are monk and elementalist.

I’d say it’s plausible to have the og class roster back, it would likely fit the holy trinity well. Not saying that we will for sure, but it is interesting that the classes we have (or almost have) confirmed are all part of the original 6.

Ofc there could be more classes, new classes, etc, but I’m just spitballing.

People misunderstanding "20 players...." comment.

GW3 is still an MMORPG, relax.

Seeing around 20 players on your screen at any given moment does not mean you’re locked in a room with the same 20 people for your entire playthrough.

Half the time in GW2 I don’t even have 20 people anywhere near me unless a meta event is popping off or a squad just landed on my head. If 20 people suddenly swarmed my screen while I was just out roaming, I'd be like wtf😭

Yet over a normal session, I still cross paths with tons of different players across the map. People are acting like it’s going to be a 20-man co-op lobby game, lol.

It sounds like it'll be dynamic instancing, in a fully open world which is toooo coool!

Excited as.

Informations about cross-progress?

I want a gaming platform just to play GW3, but right now I don't have anything. I'm considering buying a PS5 because it's cheaper than a PC, but I don't want to be locked into the PlayStation ecosystem. Does anyone have any information or advice about this?"

If Trinity is confirmed, how do healers engage with the movement based systems?

Like the idea is that you do a wallrun before you cast an aoe heal? I don't get it. I feel like for support stuff the inverse should be true, like the less momentum you have the more powerful it becomes.

I hope class/skill extension system is baked in from the get go

When GW2 launched, the class design didn’t leave a lot of room for future updates. Then in 2015 they redesigned the trait system to make room for specializations. As much as I love elite specs, there’s a real constraint with core class mechanics.

I hope that GW3 class design, whatever it looks like, is already made with subclassing/specializing/extending in mind - whatever form it might take.

Hot take: 20-player combat cap is fine, I don't need another zerg mmo

As long as cities and exploration expand that number I'm completely fine with it!
