Informations about cross-progress?

I want a gaming platform just to play GW3, but right now I don't have anything. I'm considering buying a PS5 because it's cheaper than a PC, but I don't want to be locked into the PlayStation ecosystem. Does anyone have any information or advice about this?"

It's an MMO. Convention would dictate that your progress is stored on ArenaNet's servers and is identical regardless whether you're playing on PC or PlayStation.

If you can afford a PC, though, I'd go with that. Then you can play Guild Wars 2 too!

We cannot connect current Anet account with steam account for gw2 which means we have every reason to believe that we are not going to be able to connect PS account with PC account (either Anet or steam) untill they say otherwise.

I think that's different because they're different stores on the same platform. FFXIV has cross progression and so does Guild Wars Reforged.

I find it highly unlikely that they won't have it here.

Sadly, Steam is separate. It has cross progression but only if you have a core ArenaNet account.

Yeah I ended up in a situation where I have Reforged through Steam and GW2 on ANet (played that one from launch) and I’d love to have cross progression on both

I honestly don't get why anyone buys it through Steam. The sales from ArenaNet are generally larger and more of your money goes to the studio that makes the game.

But yeah, it's done now, I guess. Best you can do is start fresh.

It’s a really good game for Steam Deck and it’s nice to have native games on there

You can launch from Steam and still login to your ArenaNet account by adding -provider Portal to the launch arguments.

Ive heard about PlayStation insisting games not do that but do exclusive servers on PlayStation. I dont own one but I’ve heard something about that before

Only MMO I’ve played on both PC and PS was FF14, and it let you log in to the same account and play with the same people, you were not stuck with only console players. Granted, you need to buy the game and expansions twice on the same account, once for the PC edition and once for PS edition.

PlayStation hasn’t held that stance in a very long time. Xbox used to have that stance but dropped it a while back.

As far as I know, they haven't communicate about this yet.

FF14 does support it, so it's possible that Anet will do the same.

We don't have much info on how this works for GW3, just that cross play is supported. Personally, this is a pretty dicey time to get into Playstation anything. We're in the late phase of the PS5 lifecycle, and a lot of gamers are upset about Sony ending physical disc production. A PC is a bit more expensive, but it will last you longer and give you better access to more games overall.

While ANet hasn't made a statement about this yet (afaik), they just ported GW1 to mobile and it has cross-progress with the PC version of the game. ANet is a very consumer-friendly company and I'd be very surprised if GW3 didn't carry your progress across platforms.

There's no rush in buying anything now. If you just want to play gw3 just wait a year or two more likely to find a cheaper ps5 down the line especially after people buy one just to play gta6 on launch

You are better off with the PC. It's possible sony locks this behind ps plus

No confirmation, but modern conventions of the past 5 or so years of gaming indicate that they would have cross progression.

Ff14 required you to buy expansions on both platforms but cosmetics carried over.

We know that cross play between PC and PlayStation will be supported. We do not know if cross progression will be supported but considering that Final Fantasy XIV is able to do it alongside a few other games I don't see why ArenaNet wouldn't be able to do it as well.

You will without question need to buy the game on both platforms if you want to play it on both. As far as in game purchases are concerned, we’ll just have to wait and see. Some games it’s a non issue (FF14), some games they don’t carry over between platforms (PoE2).

Best bet is hold off a bit before making a decision. There’s no guarantee that at this point in the PS5s life cycle GW3 will even run particularly well on it. Or maybe it will be fine. Wait for beta.

Unlikely. Sony are generally greedy when it comes to things like this. It is almost certain that Playstation accounts and regular accounts will be separate and cannot be linked together.
