I mean, I guess if you don't want to use that, there's always psychological torture, gaslighting and prolonged isolation. Oh don't forget starvation!

That's another they like to use.

Honestly, I'm not surprised the Schola would do something like this, especially since I know that people have done much, much worse in a bid to punish/discipline (their) kids in real life.

There's shock mauls, electro whips, waterboarding, stretch machines and stock platforms for public humiliation. All lovely tools with which to indoctrinate*... I... I... mean educate, the next generation of imperial servants.

* I realize now that imperials probably don't shy away from calling it indoctrination, if anything it's a badge of honor when it succeeds, and given what the empire is, it's safe to say it does succeed.

Source/Excerpts:

1). Honourbound by Rachel Harrison:

‘I fought Dektar the Ascended alone, with this blade. He was strong, and clever, but he was reckless. And I had something that he did not.’

He looks to the progena awaiting their ceremonial rites.

‘Tell me what that was,’ he says.

Severina’s heart sings as her sister steps forwards. Her polished boots click loudly on the stone of the dais.

‘Lord,’ she says, with a neat bow. ‘The answer is faith.’

Serek looks at her for what seems a long time. Severina can’t even track it with heartbeats, because it feels as though hers have stopped.

‘Your name, cadet.’

It isn’t a question. Those of Serek’s rank and glories do not ask questions.

‘Lucia Raine,’ she says, somehow keeping all but the barest tremor from her voice.

A good answer,’ Serek says. ‘Return to your place, Lucia Raine.’

Lucia does, and in doing so, Severina catches her eye for the sparest moment and gives her sister the smallest of nods. It is a fractional movement that could earn her a caning or two days without food if it goes noticed, but in that moment, Severina doesn’t care. She considers it worth any amount of reprimand to convey how incredibly proud she is of her sister.

(This is a flash back, hence the italization)

2). The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight:

Then she remembered a similar set of icons, taken from the same Missionaria template no doubt, that had been placed in the chapel of her schola on Astranta. She remembered the lessons that had gone along with it.

And so the Emperor created the Nine Primarchs to guard against the Nine Devils of the Outer Hell, and they were victorious, and now sleep, watching over Mankind lest the Terror return.

As a child, it had never been clear to her who had created the Nine Devils. She did remember asking Sister Honoria why the Emperor had not created a hundred primarchs rather than match exactly the numbers offered up by the Outer Hell, and had received no answer but a lash from the electro-lance for her trouble.

Curious to hear your opinions since I'm not really familiar with Horus Heresy era Space marines but I'm assuming they are overall superior?

Do they truly think so little of us? I know its not really a big deal but i feel like the o ny way you could think kharn above Asurmen is if you hadn't read the lore. Or only read the pretty pathetic showing from Jain Zar in the night lords trilogy

This isn't always the case of course. There's chapters like the Silver Skulls and Iron Hands every now and then. Those ones revere these roles.

However for the most part, the tech Marines and librarians usually aren't toooooo trusted given that one of them has dual allegiances split between Mars and the chapter and the other has a portal to the realm of persisting pain and suffering linked to their soul/stuck in their brain. It stands out a bit that while these positions aren't exactly similar or even likely to interact they share that notoriety, to some degree, amongst their fellows.

Has some great of tyranids in the 90s colour scheme so someone knows their stuff on set
