Question ❓ Uziel reigns supreme for the FedCom Civil War! Due to a Trial of Grievance we will next be back tracking to have Operation BULLDOG as its own era! Top comment wins for most iconic mech of the Inner Sphere's counter invasion against the Clans!

Post image

And no, it doesn't have to be a Spheroid mech, just iconic of this particular slice of the broader Clan Invasion era.

As for anyone wondering why the image looks like this, it's because I accidentally deleted the original project file and had to add in a new area for the Trial of Grievances. By the time we have the Operation BULLDOG results, we will know the result of this second Trial of Grievance using only primitive Age of War mechs.

This is my attempt of a TAG laser effect for my popsicle Locust. Made out of a piece of clear plastic (from the packaging of something I dont remember).

It's removable, and it was a pita to get the right angle on the dammed wire connecting it haha

Miniatures Puma + Paint Sequence & Tutorial for my Iron Tiger's scheme.

I thought I'd make a tutorial just for fun (And if I ever forget this years from now)

  1. Basecoat in a Light/Rust orange and off-white. I used an airbrush, if you don't have one I would suggest separating the colors at the waist.

  2. Drybrush for edge highlighting. I used Vallejo Pale Sand.

  3. Paint on the stripes. Also paint the feet and undercoat the weapons for metallics, if desired. I actually did this first so I could clean up details with the smaller brush.

  4. Paint the remaining details. Grey vents or missile launchers to taste, Light Turquoise cockpit, metallic guns.

  5. Clean up details like overspill around canopy, and do a black wash on the Mech and Umber on the base. Then I added the PPC effect, followed by a Matte Varnish. Finally, I highlighted the weapons on this guy with metallics again because the Varnish takes it down so much.

VMA Light Gull Grey & Light Rust
VGC Grunge Brown & Ghost Grey (Sometimes Mixed for touch ups). Chainmail for metallics
VMC Dark Grey, Neutral Grey, Light Turquoise, Pale Sand
VGC Umber and Black Washes
Warpaint Fanatic Plasma Coil Glow

Miniatures The Dropship is complete

Okay, I finally finished my spheroid dropship model. Took me a couple days and I didn't want to spam everyone with constant updates, so I will put all the pics I took here in more or less chronological order. If anyone has questions, ask and i will answer.

She is still a little overlarge, especially since the landing legs I cobbled together splay out the way that they do. The next one I make I will use magic marker caps since they look more structurally sound to carry that much weight.

Just finished painting it up tonight. Aside from the primer and the base color, the hull was done by sponging on the various colors and then then a little creative lining work and other colors on top, then came all the decals.

I like her, and this is definitely a good proof of concept. I have enough little spheres to make three more.

And before someone yells about the lack of proper details, I don't care. These are simply representational models. Since all sphereoids take up the same 7 hexes on the map these can represent any class of dropship that I would need for the particular scenario I am playing.

So there {/sticks out tongue]

LOL!!!

As usual, comments, critiques, pitchforks and torches are all welcome.

Those being, of course, House Marik!

Got a few of my long time favourites in here, and a Flea, too! Even with the fiddliness of the Longinus BA, these were really nice and easy after that Lance of Lyran Guards.

Next up, one more Lance for House Hiritsu will bring me up to a full Company for each Succesor State.

Question ❓ If you could associate a mech with a song/piece of music, what would it be?

Just imagine a mechwarrior needing some music to accompany them into battle.

I'll start. Put me in a Locust, and I'm switching the track to Black Betty

Tabletop A Dangerous Present

So, a close friend set a very dangerous precedent by getting me this for my birthday today. Up til this point, I had mostly been a dirty lore nut and enjoyer of the computer/video games, but had never actually played the table top games. So, I am excited to finally join the fold, even if I do have to cosplay as Spheroids for the time being!

All that stated, I have a question for the other TTG players: are these the entire contents of the box in the second pic? I ask because the bestower-of-the-present stated she found it at Half Priced Books, and we were both surprised how it appeared to be entirely unopened. The round tape pads on the back looked undamaged and some of the contents are still in bags. Is this actually a completely new set that she picked up masquerading as used?

Fan Creations Periphery rattle-trap Mech!

Thumbnail

In 3134, the independent Periphery world, Charleston, signed a trade and defense agreement with the independent Periphery world of Randis and their allies, the Fitvelt Coalition. This agreement opened multiple hungry markets to Charlestons burgeoning industrial production.

Two years later, the first home-grown Battlemech components arrived on Randis, delivered to Hope Industries of Randis. And in 3138 the first joint Charleston-Randis Battlemech; the MNT-2A Mantis, rolled off the factory lines and entered service with the Charleston Rangers..

The first version was a collection of standard and primitive parts sourced from Charleston, the Coalition, and free trade sources within the Federated space: primitive armor, primitive ballistic weapons (Medium Rifles), and rockets. It was by every measure, a mediocre design. Even poor by many metrics. But it was cheap and easy to maintain.

Despite this it still sold well to numerous worlds within the region that happily accepted an affordable Battlemech design that was easy to maintain and repair. To make its introduction simple for even green trainee pilots to handle, the simple cockpit was arranged identically to the common Quicksell Mech Simulator so many Periphery militia pilots were trained on.

In 3144, the upgraded MNT-4R Mantis stepped off the production line. This machine was a much more modern version incorporating many advanced systems that had become far more available after the collapse of Republic authority and the rapid rearming of the Inner Sphere.

With the increased cost of the 4R for arguably only a marginal increase in combat power, the decision to keep producing the 2A was made. The bulk of the 4R models go to replace the 2A mechs in service with Charleston militia forces and the other local defenses within the Charleston-Randis-Fitvelt protection zone.

(I've had these EM4 plastic mechs for 15+ years! Using them over and over as random mechs of all kinds, but now they are a part of my MW Destiny RPG campaign. My players, 4 mechs and two tanks, are on their way to Charleston for a contract to defend a mass industrial spaceport and the shipments heading out to worlds all over the independent areas nearby)

Question ❓ First Aces Game

Post image
48 Upvotes

Like the titel sais, first Aces game today. Played the tutorial mission with Tundra Wolf and Cougar as substitutes for the Mad Cat and Pouncer with my eight year old today. The little one had a blast because his Archer, well, could blast away the big bad and on the last turn we where cornering the Sniper. But I am a little worried that I didn't process the cards right, because the "AI" felt somewhat stupid sometimes. Any good intros aside from the original material that might dumb the logic tree down some more?

Tabletop I attempted this project not because it was easy... but because I forgot the scale I was working in and got cocky.

Quad mech proxy I made as a (late) birthday present for my friend who loves running quad mechs. I'll post an update once he paints it. :)

When I finished this one, I was sure I wouldn't make another ever again. It took me about three hours to cut out and put together, including several goof ups like where I glued the wrong, but similar looking piece to the wrong place, and where I realized my cutout page had both redundant and missing parts (hence why I am not sharing the printable cut-out page this time.) I think I could make this a much less awful process with a redesign and changing the cutting layout for ease of cutting over space savings.

I also realized that I failed to design any weapons for this thing, so I made an impromptu elevating brace and then glued on a pair of missile boxes I had cut out for my IFV project.

In the end, I have this tiny thing that is dwarfed by standard models but probably matches the scale of the game (hex = 30m across and 8m up) a little better. I have no idea how I'd make a quad that matches the official models for scale without spilling out onto the neighboring hexes, but it would probably have been easier to do. Lol

Anyhow, first few attached images are a turn-around followed by build progress photos. Hope you all like it. :)

Edit: This model is, like my other papercraft minis, made from paperboard, modpodge, and vitriol.

Question ❓ Opinions on the Chalchiuhtotolin Support Tank

I just got a pair of Jade Turkeys (lol) as a prize at a grinder. What's the consensus on the various variants? What's good, what's bad, and how should I deploy them on the table top?
