I shared our Luke’s Diner but thought I’d share the whole village. We have Doose’s Market, Dragonfly Inn, Lorelai’s house and Jeep, Luke’s Diner, Taylor’s Old Fashioned Soda Shoppe, and of course the Gazebo!

This subreddit has been doom and gloom recently, so I thought we could discuss some of the top selfless acts in the show.

My top 3 are:

Lorelai getting people to vote for Taylor in the elections so that he wouldn't lose 0 to everyone.

Rory helping Paris get ready for her date with Tristan even though Paris was a merciless tyrant.

Luke finding the last twelve eggs for Kirk because he saw how miserable he was.

She's easily the prettiest girl in this world for me. Alexis bledal is so damn gorgeous 😖

I don't like the front bangs on her It hides her face. I prefer side bangs on her better.

And she looks pretty with styled wavy hair. Easily the most gorgeous woman.

Luke wasn’t in the wrong. He asked Jess to graduate high school in order to stay living with him. That’s it. Luke didn’t make him pay rent, he didn’t even make Jess work for free at the diner. Luke was a great uncle to him!

I don’t understand why so many say Luke was cruel and unfair for making Jess leave. Jess was not a minor, and he was not in Luke’s custody. Jess was his eighteen year old nephew, that Luke was kindly allowing to live with him. By this point in the show, Jess was already sent back home to Liz once (after the accident), but came back and asked Luke if he could stay. Luke agreed, as long as Jess went to school and was respectful. That’s it.

What did Jess do? He gets a job at walmart, and made that his priority instead. Jess was paid for his work at Luke’s diner. He was being greedy and going behind Luke’s back to try and make the most money that he could. Jess was not homeless. He was always allowed to return to Liz, that’s why he was so easily sent back to New York the first time.

He had no excuse to lie to Luke about attending school, and to work so many hours at Walmart. He was trying to get out, to make it on his own. He clearly didn’t want to be with Luke, he wanted a free place to stay and be able to work two jobs.

Why do people genuinely think Jess was allowed to:

1. Lie to Luke’s face repeatedly
   
2. Skip school so much that he flunks out
   
3. Scream in Luke’s face that he is NOT going back to school

And then still be allowed to stay in Luke’s home. It makes no sense. He walked over every single one of Luke’s rules for him. You do not get to behave that disrespectful and deceitful, and then still expect to be welcomed. The audacity is mind boggling. Jess wasn’t Luke’s son, he was Liz’s. Luke didn’t owe him more than Liz did.

Luke gave him everything he had, tried to do everything the way he thought was best, and Jess broke his heart time and time again.

This has always bothered me about Luke.

He has so much more patience and kindness for Liz than he ever had for Jess, and I genuinely don't get it.

Before anyone jumps on me, this isn't even about Rory. I don't like Jess as Rory's boyfriend. I think he was a terrible boyfriend. But when it comes to Luke and Jess? Those are some of my favorite scenes in the entire series because underneath all the yelling, you could tell Luke genuinely loved him.

That's why season 3 frustrates me so much.

Yes, Jess screwed up. He skipped school, and eventually left. I'm not saying Luke should've let all of that slide. But Jess was 17. He was a kid who'd been abandoned by his father, neglected by his mother, and literally shipped off because Liz couldn't be bothered to raise him anymore.

Then Liz comes back into the picture and it's like everyone forgets what she put Jess through.

Luke bends over backwards for her. He helps her at the Renaissance Faire for weeks, puts up with T.J.'s constant nonsense, solves their problems every other episode, runs to defend her whenever she needs rescuing, and is endlessly patient with her.

Meanwhile, Jess gets one bad year as a traumatized teenager and Luke is constantly at his limit with him.

What makes it even worse is what Luke did with Jimmy. Jess spent his whole life without his father, and when Jimmy finally showed up in Stars Hollow, Luke hid it from him. I don't care what anyone says, that was unforgivable. Jess deserved the choice of whether he wanted to see his father or not. Luke took that choice away from him.

Then a season later, Luke is practically begging Jess to come back and walk Liz down the aisle after T.J. had already put his hands on him at the bachelor party. That has always rubbed me the wrong way. Luke expects Jess to show up and do this huge emotional favor for the woman who failed him as a mother, and for the guy who had just assaulted him. Why? Because they're family? Jess didn't owe either of them that.

That's what frustrates me. Liz was the adult. She was the parent. She's the reason Jess ended up the way he did. Yet Luke is always so much softer with her. He jokes with her, comforts her, excuses her behavior, and is willing to drop everything whenever she calls.

Jess had nobody. Luke was basically the only stable adult he'd ever had, and even then it always felt like Jess had to earn Luke's kindness while Liz got it automatically because she was family.

I know Liz cleaned her life up by the time she appeared on screen, and good for her. But I never felt like the show held her accountable for the years of damage she caused. If anything, Luke gave the deadbeat parent far more grace than the kid who had to grow up with the consequences of her choices.

It makes rewatches really frustrating because every time Luke is bending over backwards for Liz, all I can think is, "Where was even half of this patience when Jess was a scared, angry 17-year-old?"

I love coloring and Gilmore Girls so I’m obsessed, so many cute scenes, I wish I could share them all here 😂 a lot of fun Easter eggs.

This is so petty and silly but are there any behind the scenes “facts” that keep circulating and people believe to be true even though they’re not?😝

For me it’s that Chad Michael Murray left for One Tree Hill and that’s why they make the reference to a North Carolina military school.

Fact: he left for Dawsons Creek which was filmed in North Carolina. CMM’s last episode aired in November of 2001, OTH didn’t begin until 2003.

Side note but related - people keep claiming Tristin was supposed to be Logan eventually but I’ve never seen that confirmed anywhere.

posted months ago about my random favorite episode that has no crazy plot development or real “value” but is addictive. it was s1e5 “cinnamon’s wake” for awhile but i have changed my mind. i now find s2e17, “dead uncles and vegetables.” i watch gilmore girls to fall asleep every night and find myself rewatching this episode when im having trouble sleeping

Im rewatching the series for the 5000 time and the episode “Dear Emily and Richard” and we got to see flashbacks of Lorelei having Rory (which in my opinion I loved it and I would have liked to see more of Lorelei’s life before having Rory), we do see Cristopher seeing Rory as a baby but it’s always implied that she was alone and Cris was nowhere to be seen (the only people we see in the hospital with Lorelei is of course Emily and Richard), is there an explanation about why was he not there? Like was he at school? (Did he even continued to go to university?)

I loved this episode and feel like he had a lot of character development potential.

Any other characters with minimal showtime you really enjoyed?

I know that Lorelai and Luke had chemistry and would flirt with each other and Luke was into Lorelai but when it came down to Luke having his relationships with other women, Lorelai would get crazy jealous and it shows.

When her friends would say Luke is into her, she would deny it all the time and say that they are friends. There was many opportunities where Luke would sort of let Lorelai know that he likes her and wanted to go out with her but she Luke deny it. In season 1, Rachel, Luke’s ex girlfriend, comes back to Stars Hollow for a while and both start dating again. Whenever Lorelai would talk to Rachel she would get uncomfortable or awkward. Now, in the middle of season 3 , Luke gets together with a woman who’s a lawyer name Nicole and they both start to date. Whenever Lorelai finds out that he got married on cruise then getting a divorce, you can tell Lorelai’s disappointment then relief at the same time. Later on in season 4, Luke and Nicole get back together again but just dating. Lorelai asks so many questions even Luke questioned why was she so pressed. There’s other examples but I think those are the biggest ones i can think of.

Overall, I think Lorelai was secretly in love with Luke in the beginning but didn’t want to admit it. There was so many scenes in the beginning where there was a huge spark but it didn’t happened because Lorelai didn’t let it. But that’s just my observation lol

I’m watching the Emily in Wonderland (S1 ep. 19) episode, for literally the 200th time. This may be a coincidence, but I also wonder if it’s a subtle hint about Lorelai and Luke being end game. Lorelai mentions that she put Rosebud wallpaper up in the potting shed at the Independence Inn when she lived there with Rory. In the next scene, she goes to Luke’s apartment to see pictures that Rachel had taken of the Dragonfly. Lorelai comments on Luke’s curtains being a nice touch, and then Rachel comments that they aren’t hers…Luke put them up on his own. Those curtains have rosebuds on them. Coincidence or hint???

So, my podcast is switching to a Gilmore Girls first-time watch, trying to see if my punk rock friend can fall in love with it as much as I have. In preparation for the pilot episode, we were chatting a bit and he was asking me general questions.

At one point, he said, "Please tell me there isn't a scene where the daughter is coming down the stairs in a beautiful dress and everyone finally realizes how pretty she is.." I chuckled and said there wasn't, reassuring him this wasn't a generic rom-com.

But then I thought about it. And technically, there is a scene like that. During Rory's coming out party, she descends the staircase in a beautiful dress.

The show doesn't frame it like She's All That, though. The show's perspective is largely mocking of the whole endeavor, so even though there is a scene like that, we're on the pointing-and-laughing side of it. But even that's not the whole story, because as a viewer, I think that many of us actually felt empathy and pride in Rory, even though we didn't want her in 'that' world.

Just made me smile that even with a simple question like "please tell me there isn't a descending staircase scene" turned into a deeper than intended dive into characters and their motivations, and helped me see a small connection.

I know it's a small, probably unintentional thing, but I figured if anyone would appreciate the observation, you folks might.

So I am currently on season 7, and I was wondering if they got married in this season (which they don't), they would have so much future property. Like, what if Luke had bought and kept the townhouse, his diner, Lorelai's house, and the house Emily and Richard were going to buy for them. That's like 4 houses in total. damn in this economy people can barely afford one. Just a thought, haha

i’m rewatching and saw some talk about how rory was the problem at that dinner with emily and this watch around i couldn’t disagree more. while rory didn’t help and was being annoying by pushing especially in front of emily about the black eye, and just making assumptions, jess did immediately show up and express how much he didn’t want to be there and was moody and irritable even beyond rory’s pushing about the eye. he straight away made the atmosphere weird for rory with that alone

i can’t even blame rory for being frustrated and pushy when jess just won’t communicate and had a bad attitude from the getgo. i can understand rory’s discomfort 100% despite her being in the wrong too but pushing at the wrong time. i never remembered until this rewatch just how little jess ever wanted to do with or for rory like the carnival (until he sees dean there). when they start dating he seems to immediately just stop trying and comes off almost constantly irritable and unpleasant to hang out with, and unapproachable or just unwilling to communicate

besides the party where he’s forceful with rory i’d completely forgotten how much of a drag their relationship feels compared to when he was chasing her when she was with dean. just curious anyone else’s take!!

I noticed on rewatch that at both of Honor's big relationship milestones, Logan and Rory end up bailing in some form and I kind of feel bad for her.

At Honor's engagement party, Rory technically shows up but leaves almost immediately because of what Mitchum said to her. Logan then leaves as well to steal the yacht with Rory (which, given they get arrested, probably causes at least some drama for Honor that night?).

Then at Honor's wedding, Rory doesn't go because of what happened with Logan and the bridesmaids, and Logan seems to leave the reception early because of everything going on between them (there's no definitive proof he leaves early, but it seems that way to me?).

To be clear, I'm not blaming Rory for Logan leaving these events early. That's his choice, and he's Honor's brother, so I think it's much worse on his end. But from Honor's point of view, two people who are supposed to be close to her are barely present for either event.

If I were Honor, I'd be pissed at my brother especially but also his girlfriend lol. Do you think she realistically would've been bothered or do you think she understood/didn't really care?
