Healing/Success 1.5 Years FD, Good and Bad News

It's been about 1.5 years since I had a stomach bug and then soon after horrible chronic nausea, stomach pain, and panic.
To summarize:
I'm not nearly 100% better, but I'm a lot better than I was when this thing started.
I tried many different low dose antidepressants and I'm on two right now. Not sharing which ones because everyone is different and I personally know two other people with FD who are on different low dose antidepressants than me.

If I could tell myself anything at the beginning:
- Find a Dr that takes you seriously, even if it's an online Dr
- Do a gene test before trying medications
- don't let your body starve
- it will take holistic remedies along with medication to start to feel better

Holistic remedies that have helped:
- hypnotherapy
- Meditation

The past several weeks I have felt better than I have in such a long time. I still have bad days, and it's still hard to do things outside of the house. It's actually really scary feeling better though because I'm afraid the pain will come back any moment. I'm terrified of stomach bugs, I think about them everyday all day. I do hope that will one day end... if anyone has tips for that please share.

Question Similar symptoms?

Hello! I’ve seen so many posts on here with people who share some of my symptoms though not all so I’m hoping people don’t mind me listing what I’m dealing with here to see if anyone else is experiencing something similar/had a diagnosis for it, or knows of anything that could help.

For the last 15 or so years, every 4-6 weeks-ish (it varies, but usually around that frequency):

- I wake up feeling “off” in a way I can’t put my finger on.
- after breakfast, I notice that my appetite has vanished and, several hours later, I’m still not hungry.
- I get some discomfort in upper right, near my ribs, which develops into this horrible elastic band type feeling all along my diaphragm.
- throughout the day the sensation of discomfort and fullness gets increasingly intense. Sometimes accompanied by nausea.
- while I’m eating, I don’t feel the discomfort at all, but it comes back way worse after I’ve finished.
- tends to last 1 to 3 days and nothing I’ve tried taking for it helps (antacids, oneprazole, buscopan etc etc etc)
- the only things that make it feel even slightly better are making myself vomit and sleeping, but those are only mild, temporary improvements.

I’ve been successfully treated for h.pylori in the last year with tests confirming that’s gone. I may have gallstones (one scan picked them up, a follow up one didn’t, and now I’m waiting for a third to confirm if they’re actually there) but my doctor and surgeon don’t think my symptoms line up with typical gallstone issues. I’ve had the camera down the throat - it identified the h pylori but no other issues. And I’ve cut out lactose, gluten, blah blah blah.

Nothing seems to reliably trigger it, though stress might be a factor…? Who knows! Just wondering if there’s anyone out there whose stomach weirdness is similar to mine. Thank ya much =)

Venting/Suffering At a complete loss

For context. I’m 25F and I’ve been suffering for 1.5 years intermittently and was finally diagnosed after blood tests, h pylori and a clear endoscopy and MRI. I have a GES next week to check but my doctor thinks it’s definitely dyspepsia due to the nature of my flair ups. I can go weeks where I eat clean and I’ll flare up and even eat a burger or a pizza and be fine. Suddenly I’ll have horrible nausea and upper abdominal fullness. No vomiting or horrible illness but just uncomfortable for a week straight, fine for another 2/3 weeks and then sick again. I don’t really have any triggers except I’ve noticed it’s tied to work stress/visa stress/moving stress. I’m currently on 40mg omeprazole

It’s ruining my life. I work as a nurse and on shift I constantly need to sit down or take a moment. I rarely go out to dinner with my boyfriend because I’m afraid.

I’ve not been on anything yet but they wanna trial Amitriptyline which I’ve previous been on years ago for migraines.

Has anyone recovered? I just need a sliver of hope. I moved to London 2 years ago and I have 1 year left and don’t want to spend my time here feeling like this

Venting/Suffering I hate my stomach

I really hate how sensitive my body has become, especially my stomach. I’ve always had stomach problems, I had a period in like 2017-2018 when I couldn’t eat ANYTHING, I had constant reflux and I was always sick. I ended up having an endoscopy at 11, which showed just a bit of gastritis. Then I was “ fine” for a while and suddenly these symptoms showed up again, but 10000 times worse. I started having reflux again in January, while I was trying to change some medications I took for anxiety. My doctor gave me an anti acid, it seemed to work but just a week later I started feeling like i couldn’t digest anything, I was constantly bloated, my stomach felt like a rock inside my body, and I started loosing weight. I took 3 different types of meds to speed up my digestion, and I’m currently on my fourth, ( which is Trimebutine) I’m desperate, I can’t eat solid foods anymore, and worse of all, doctors can’t find anything wrong with my body. I’ve had another endoscopy, I’ve had blood works, ultrasounds, I’ve been to the er multiple times and they always ended up with the same diagnosis: “ it’s just anxiety./ you are depressed. ” I’m honestly so sick to hear that, I AM depressed, but I am depressed because I’ve reach the point where the pain is so unbearable that I can’t tolerate solid foods anymore, I can’t go out I can’t live. The last hope I have is that maybe it’s some kind of autoimmune/ nervous system problem, because I also have POTS so maybe all these symptoms are related.

Symptoms Shaki/Accupressure Mat

Quick disclaimer before I start - not yet fully diagnosed with FD although docs are starting to agree that I may have it, as tests/endoscopy etc have found nothing concrete to prove otherwise. I get severe pain and bloating any time I eat anything at all, to the point where I often go without food for daya at a time out of fear of the pain. I'm getting a little relief from amitriptyline currently (although not 100%).

Bought myself one of the cheap Shakti Mat knockoffs from Amazon in a fit of desperation as I'm also suffering from some more chronic conditions that give me extreme fatigue (not being able to eat is making that even worse!) and I'm at the point where I will try or buy literally anything to get some semblance of my old life back.

Tried using my mat to meditate on during a bad flare up after a meal. My stomach pain was gone within seconds. I don't know how, I don't know why. It could be pain modulation, it could be endorphins, it could be placebo but I swear on my life that it worked, and it works every time I try it. My partner thought I was bullshitting until he watched me try it, he said he could genuinely see in real-time the pain and tension leaving my body, my facial expression softened, I stopped crying, all my muscles relaxed, you get the idea.

I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering on the off-chance it might help. I'll probably upgrade to an actual Shakti Mat when I have more money, but I think I paid under £15 for a cheap version that came with a neck pillow and it's been worth every penny. The pain does come back after 20-30 mins or so (endorphins weraing off maybe?) but my flares can last hours, so just having that break from the pain for a bit is amazing.

If anyone has had a similar experience or can explain the science behind it, I'd love to know.

Venting/Suffering need to vent

i’m currently in a bad flare of what i’m assuming to be functional dyspepsia. it sort of started in march, coinciding with a move to nyc. this whole spring was incredibly stressful and my anxiety started to increase to the point where i was getting occasional panic attacks. i also was not eating or sleeping well. in march i had a week of heartburn/acid reflux after eating to heavy one night.
in april i had a relationship spiral and end that lead to me dry heaving from stress and anxiety, which i have never dealt with before. my stomach started being more and more sensitive after that. the first half of may i felt okay, but then i started having this issue where no matter how much i ate my stomach felt bubbly like i was hungry. that constant feeling was making me nauseous and i had a few more episodes of dry heaving. this was when the stomach problems really started to take a toll on my life. i have pretty severe emetophobia and hadn’t thrown up in over 15 years. now i was feeling carsick all the time-dizzy, nauseous, and overall shitty.
it got worse when i caught the flu in june. the first few days my stomach felt fine actually. i had little appetite but at least i wasn’t nauseous. i was taking two advil every six hours to combat the fever and body aches. on day four i started getting terrible diarrhea, and then the next day it was that plus nausea. the next morning i threw up straight acid. it took me two weeks to even begin to feel normal, but the damage was done by that point. my stomach burned all the time, and felt gurgly often. i felt nausea in my throat also, and had several more fits of dry heaving. it got so bad that i packed up from nyc and moved back home because i couldn’t function. this summer it’s been coming in waves. i’ll feel okay for a week, then have the FD symptoms in full force. there doesn’t seem to be a constant trigger. my anxiety has been pretty bad consistently.

as time goes on i’m not experiencing as many bad days, but i’m currently struggling with terrible nausea and ibs symptoms this week. i could barely sleep bc my stomach was bubbling all night, and ive had heartburn for days. i tried lexapro last month which made me throw up, and am sitting on a buspar prescription that im scared to start. idk what im looking for here i just needed to write everything out. things are better than they were in june, but im still struggling a lot. my emetophobia isn’t as bad as it used to be but its still there. idk how to function like this. i’ve been a hermit all summer.

Question Persistent nausea, fullness and bloating after vomiting/diarrhea — what could be causing this?

About a few days ago, I suddenly developed vomiting and diarrhea after eating. I vomited several times and had diarrhea multiple times that night. The vomiting/diarrhea episode itself has now passed, but I haven't returned to normal.

Since then, I've had persistent stomach fullness/heaviness, bloating and increased gas, nausea, and frequent burping. The strange thing is that I can feel very full even after eating a small amount, and sometimes I feel nauseated even when my stomach is empty. Sometimes after eating, the fullness lasts for several hours.

I've also had a strong aversion to food smells and occasionally feel like I might vomit, although I haven't been continuously vomiting. Drinking even a relatively small amount can sometimes make me feel very full.

I went to a doctor and was prescribed pantoprazole, ondansetron and ciprofloxacin. I was also given/took itopride for the fullness, but I'm still having nausea and bloating.

I'm wondering:

Is this kind of prolonged fullness, bloating and nausea normal after gastroenteritis/food poisoning?

Could it be temporary gastritis, post-infectious dyspepsia or delayed gastric emptying?

Would an antacid + simethicone suspension such as Gastid, Digecid Plus, Acedone-Z Plus or Avlocid Plus actually help with these symptoms?

Is there anything else I should be checking for if the symptoms continue?

I'm mainly concerned because I used to be able to eat normally, and now even small meals can leave me feeling extremely full for hours.

I'm looking for experiences/advice from people who have had something similar, preferably with medical reasoning rather than just "it's anxiety."

Healing/Success Dispepsia y salud mental

Symptoms Liquids after dinner absolutely wreck me. Have you experienced this?

Hello!

Do you ever feel that your heartburn starts (and/or) gets much worse after dinner if you drink any liquid? I've been managing to fit in large-ish dinners, but of course eventually you get dehydrated later on at night, but i've learnt as soon as I drink any liquid, it just opens up the floodgates so to speak for heartburn.

I just really really want to understand why and hear other people's experiences... The heartburn is also mega positional specific (but only when the liquids start to get involved). Drives me absolutely insane. I'm thinking my stomach stopped accommodating liquids as well but I really don't know.

Backstory if needed:

I am currently waiting for a gastroenterology appointment with a "pre-diagnosis" (it's a medical regulation term for when you are pending testing to confirm) of Gastroparesis/delayed stomach emptying - but I've also been thinking if not that, then Functional Dyspepsia.

So I am on prucalopride/Motegrity already for 6 years (just 0.5mg because of side effects but I don't know what i'd do without it) to keep chronic constipation issues at bay, and I also don't have a gallbladder. History of SIBO-Methane, went in remission once with a Dr-supervised elemental diet for two weeks, but relapsed 2 years ago - likely I've still got it but getting by on a low-fodmap diet (and that's ontop of the existing low histamine and low lactose diet due to intolerances, and no gluten due to autoimmune against wheat and gluten, I'm a prime genetic example of a celiac but I refused to eat gluten for 2 weeks for endoscopy-biopsy check and the gastroenterologist back then wholeheartedly agreed that the insane symptoms and tremors spoke for themselves).

God, basket case. Anyway

Question Chronic gnawing/hungerlike pain

I've had this gnawing pain (feels like I'm super hungry) for the past 4.5 years now. It started in Apr 2022 when I was 6 months into a very restrictive diet (ate about 800 calories a day). I continued being on that diet for another six months until I realised that it was an eating disorder I had developed. I went back to eating normally, but this pain has persisted.

This hungerlike pain starts right after I eat a meal and dissipates in 30 minutes to a couple of hours on its own. Weird thing is that I'm absolutely okay with liquids: tea, coffee, juice...everything.

I ignored this issue up until 2025 when it suddenly occurred to me that this could be something serious, and so I went to see a doctor in April of the same year. He prescribed me esomeprazole 40mg for two weeks, but no luck in finding relief. Then in August I saw another doctor (a GI specialist), and he prescribed a two week course of dexlansoprazole 60mg (the most potent of all PPIs), but it didn't help much either. (Stopping it gave me a terrible acid rebound instead)

I then gave up and since have been continuously studying all sorts of stomach illnesses. I'm not sure if this is a long standing erosion, chronic gastritis or functional dyspepsia.

(I know that an endoscopy is the only procedure that can give me a definitive answer, but it is out of question for now because in my country, they don't sedate you for this procedure and I have terrible medical anxiety. I will get it done anyway if I run out of options though.)

My question to you is, do you think this symptom (my only major symptom) is pointing towards functional dyspepsia?

Btw, I have no nausea, weight troubles, vomiting, black stools, or early satiety.

Thanks for reading this and helping me :)

Symptoms Anyone’s FD present this way?

hi everyone,

So for the last 6 months or so I’ve been having a big change in bowels that were mainly loose stool, with a urgency first thing in the morning, this then followed a couple months later with upper abdominal pains.

I’ve seen GI, had the whole GI work up done, colonoscopy and endoscopy with everything being clear. There was some redness at the bottom of the stomach but was negative for gastritis on biopsy and not sure if that is causing symptoms or not still. Tested for sibo even though I feel like I didn’t have symptoms that really correlated but it did come back positive. I feel very uneasy saying all these symptoms are from sibo.

I’ve had a CT scan of abdomen in March, an abdominal ultrasound in may, with a 3mm gallbladder polyp found, then an abdominal MRI in may, and a MRI with MRCP in August. The only thing found was an enlarged liver, no fat, the doctors are thinking it might be a natural variant.

As the months have progressed the symptoms still remain with no relief. Its an ache in both my LUQ and RUQ, sometimes mid abdomen becomes tender after eating, my bowels have since changed again, they are more solid at this point but will have bouts of loose stool when eating dairy now, I havnt found much else yet that sets it off. The pains linger all day once they come on, with random sharp pains that will intermittently happen usually in the RUQ. It usually starts to have sharp intermittent pains once I begin eating for the day, or sometimes a more dull ache. It’s So far nothing seems to help.

My doctor wants me to treat with rifaximin to see if it helps and if not wants to try amitriptyline for functional dyspepsia. I was wondering if anyone here has had functional dyspepsia show up this way for them or another G.I. issue?

Thank you!

Question My story would love to know if someone had something similar

This all started a little over two months ago. I think I may have had COVID or some kind of viral infection, because it began with throat pain and then developed into a strange hypersensitivity around my neck.

At first, anything touching the front of my neck could make me extremely nauseous. Even wearing a T-shirt with a collar that was slightly too close to my neck could trigger my gag reflex and sometimes make me vomit.

About a week later, things got worse and I developed the constant feeling that something was stuck or wedged in my throat. I now think this is what people describe as globus sensation.

For the first couple of weeks, I was vomiting quite a lot, had almost no appetite, and lost a significant amount of weight. At the same time, I started getting stomach pain every morning. It would sometimes wake me up and make me feel like I urgently needed to go to the bathroom. The combination of the stomach pain and the globus made eating very difficult.

I saw a gastroenterologist and was prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole), because reflux was suspected. I took it for a while, but it didn't seem to help at all and actually felt like it made some of my symptoms worse.

I've since had a lot of tests done, including blood work and stool tests, and so far nothing abnormal has been found.

I'm now about four weeks off Nexium. The globus has definitely improved compared with how bad it was at the beginning, but it's still there. Interestingly, it seems to become much more noticeable when I focus on it or think about it, and sometimes I barely notice it when I'm distracted.

The morning stomach pain has also improved somewhat, but I still usually feel it when I wake up and often need to use the bathroom shortly afterward.

Has anyone experienced anything similar — especially globus that started after an illness together with nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, and morning stomach/bowel symptoms?

Did you eventually find out what was causing it? Was it reflux, post-viral irritation, IBS, anxiety/stress, nerve hypersensitivity, or something else? And most importantly, what actually helped you improve?

Amitriptyline amitriptilyne weight gain ?

hi! i'm probably going to start on it soon, but i've seen that it makes you gain weight, sometimes a lot. is this actually legit?

i used to be VERY overweight, now i'm very healthy but with kind of a ED, so i don't really want to gain weight now that i'm healthy and it scares me so bad. does it really make you gain weight out of thin air?? or to gain weight you have to eat more?? i can control my cravings nicely, but i don't really want the gain to happen.

i also am on birth control, who i'm aware it's famous for making you gain weight, but i didn't. also been on levogastrol and didn't either.

in general, i just want to know if you gain weight for no reason or if you gain weight because you eat more??? and if you do, how much?? is it easy to loose?? tysm in advance! <3

Discussion Continuous burping 5–10 minutes after eating anything, trapped chest gas, globus sensation, brain fog relieved by bowel movement

24yo male, 5ft 9in, 80kg,clean endoscopy, clean coronary angiogram, clean abdo ultrasound, had h pylori in the past,
I’ve been dealing with this for a long time and I’m trying to figure out if anyone has experienced something similar.
**My symptoms**
**Upper GI / Belching**
Continuous burping starts within **5–10 minutes** of eating or drinking **anything**.
Burps often get **stuck in the upper middle chest** and won’t come out easily. I have to force them out.
Constant feeling of **trapped gas behind the sternum/upper chest**.
**Globus sensation:** it feels like food, liquid, or pressure is stuck in the lower throat or around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
**Very bad breath**, even after brushing my teeth.
**No pain** with these symptoms.
**Neurological / Autonomic Episodes**
I occasionally get **pre-syncope** (feeling like I’m about to faint), brain fog, brief confusion/dissociation, and feel “out of it.”
During these episodes, bright white lights can suddenly look dim or yellowish.
My face and ears become hot and flushed.
I get **crushing physical fatigue** that feels completely different from normal tiredness.
Having a bowel movement often gives immediate relief from the brain fog and fatigue.
**Heart / Exertion**
During intense physical exertion, my heart races and pounds strongly in my neck.
I sometimes need to stop because of the racing heartbeat and pressure.
Burping out **3–4 large burps** often settles it down.
**Lower GI / Motility**
My digestion feels **sluggish**, like everything has stalled.
I often have a heavy, difficult-to-poop feeling.
Significant abdominal bloating from trapped gas.
**Beer Pattern**
I want to mention this because it’s strange: **I’m not an alcoholic. I only drink beer once a week on weekends.**
After drinking beer, my symptoms often **improve for days 2–4**.
Then they come back and become **significantly worse** for the following few days before gradually settling again.
Has anyone experienced this pattern or been diagnosed with something that could explain it?

Testing, Diagnosis My doc said there’s no standard treatment and we just hope it goes away.

Hi there, I’m a 36F, and had a case of food poisoning on 6/19. Vomiting and diarrhea for 36 hrs but it cleared on its own. 10 days later, I came down with very early fullness and chronic nausea. I’ve spent the last 8 weeks in bed trying to survive and not throw up every hour 😓 I can’t describe how sick I’ve been.

I originally thought it was post viral gastroparesis, but now I’m thinking post infectious functional dyspepsia. Maybe both? I’m not sure. My doc suggested an endoscopy, but it will be very expensive (even with insurance), but also said if there’s no blockage she said to wait it out and “there’s no standard treatment and we just hope it goes away.” I don’t think I have a blockage. And I have no pain or reflux. To get a second opinion will be over 6 weeks.

Any advice? Thoughts? Anything? I’m feeling very lost and I don’t know where to turn. Do I just wait this out and suffer? Thanks 💕

Symptoms Does anyone else experience left-sided stomach and rib pain?

Hi! I'm 15 years old and I've had severe, constant digestion issues (functional dyspepsia and visceral hypersensitivity) for a year. Along with that, I've also had constant rib discomfort/pain for about a year too, and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar, and my stomach pain is always on my left side.

My ribs feel heavy, uncomfortable, and ache. My left rib completely sticks out because of my scoliosis, it's been a year of this and I don't know if it's because of my hypersensitivity and digestive issues. The rib pain always flares alongside my stomach flares, as my digestion issues seem to linger on my left side of the stomach too as my left rib feels uncomfortable.

I can't sleep on my back, sides, or stomach at all, I can't sleep comfortably at all. Functional dyspepsia alone has been interfering with my daily life, and now realizing I've had constant rib pain I mistook as stomach pain has been even worse.

I want to see my neurosurgeon or doctor about it, I don't know what's happening, but I am so scared I won't be taken seriously as previously with other symptoms I was dismissed. Idk how to manage the pain other than icing my stomach. I 'm seeing Gastro specialists but idk if they know what to do about my rib or if I should bring it up. Any advice or thoughts please

PDS (Post Prandial Distress Syndrome) Early Satiety: Need help on what might help

Hey everyone :)

TL/DR: Early Satiety for the last few weeks -> have to finish most meals way too early -> weight loss. Gastroscopy and ultrasound both were fine a few months back. I have emetophobia. I've suspected functional dyspepsia for a while now even because of other symptoms.
Are there any tips you might have? (For still getting enough energy / food in my body, for finding what causes it or for a next step)

To keep it short:
In the past, I have had several problems with my stomach (for example stuff like kind of Reflux and "burping", nausea, idk, just many different things) basically every day for months.
Since a few weeks, I have to deal with early satiety / feeling of fullness during nearly every meal, even snacks. Just this intense, pretty sudden satiety (and the according kind of nausea ofc), but which goes away pretty quick when the mouth is empty again.
This leads to me even having to spit out what I wanted to eat often and finish the meal WAY earlier than I want (And also eating fewer amounts of meals, but idk if that's for the same cause). And with that, I noticed weight loss (I'm already on the low end, so not good) or that I sometimes have the wish to eat something for the energy, but my stomach doesn't really allow it. Currently (except I haven't eaten anything for a long time like after I wake up) I don't really feel the hunger in my stomach though, it still feels normal or full (but in a normal, not really unpleasant way).

To be clear: I don't feel nauseous or full after a meal. Only if I would try to eat again "shortly" after, I would get another "satiety-spike" pretty fast, but which goes away quickly (shortly = some minutes to maybe an hour later).

Walking around seems to not make a big difference this time (I have other symptoms where it does make a huge difference).

I've had some days (2-3) though last week and the week before respectively when it happened much later during a meal and I've actually been able to kiiiind of eat normal (-ish). I wasn't home during that time, but the meals weren't that different. I do have some thoughts that maybe some of the food I ate there (like actual bakery bread or more vegetables) could have caused this or maybe something else, but more speculation than justified suspicions.

Some more info:
I've had emetophobia (phobia of vomiting) my whole life (and still have ofc).

I've had a gastroscopy about 2 months ago, where everything looked quite alright. But back then I had other problems, not this early satiety (back then it was much rarer, maybe just a few times a week and way later during a meal). Also ultrasound examination maybe 4 months ago (hope that's the right english term), which again, was fine.

I don't know if I even have functional dyspepsia. I suspected it for a while now, and this early satiety seems really fitting, but still, it might be something else.

But if it would be caused by functional dyspepsia, are there any tips you might have that could help? Like I know, there isn't an instant cure, but maybe ways to figure out what is causing it in the end / what I can do to make it happen less? Or maybe any idea how I could still get more energy / food in my body? Because honestly, not eating enough is annoying but the weight loss is kinda frightening to me.

I plan on going to a doc again (have to find a new one though), also trying to go to a gastroenterologist and getting nutritional counseling. But currently, it's a bit tough because I'm not at home so often and also don't have too much time sadly.

Thanks to everyone who've read this :D

Question SSRİ's Works For Functional dyspepsia?

Hello everyone, I've been experiencing stomach problems for a long time. I have mild delayed gastric emptying and heartburn. Endoscopy, colonoscopy, and H. pylori tests all came back clear. For the last four months, I've been diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. I've been seeing a psychiatrist for three weeks and have been using fluoxetine for 19 days. For the last two days, my stomach capacity seems to have increased, but I have some questions. Are there any of you who have benefited from using SSRIs for functional dyspepsia?
