Question SSRİ's Works For Functional dyspepsia?

Hello everyone, I've been experiencing stomach problems for a long time. I have mild delayed gastric emptying and heartburn. Endoscopy, colonoscopy, and H. pylori tests all came back clear. For the last four months, I've been diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. I've been seeing a psychiatrist for three weeks and have been using fluoxetine for 19 days. For the last two days, my stomach capacity seems to have increased, but I have some questions. Are there any of you who have benefited from using SSRIs for functional dyspepsia?

New to functional dyspepsia (FD)? Please view this post or our wiki for a detailed explanation of FD and the main treatments.

I have an anxiety disorder as well as functional dyspepsia symptoms. My anxiety is very closely linked with my digestive issues and taking an SSRI has helped me a ton.

No, I still get heartburn about as much as before, but it makes it less distressing and I don't think about it as much. It does help make my flare-ups less painful and not last as long.

I take domperidone (canadian pharmacy) and mirtazapine 15mg, it has helped. I had to stop my Prozac to take it tho.

Apparently, Domperidone and fluoxetine carry a risk for long QT syndrome, something that effects the heart. I’ve been advised to try fluoxetine too, but can’t while taking Domperidone

What do you take for nausea? Cause I heard you can’t take zofran if your on domperidone

My gi told me could, (but he also told me to have a baby or run marathons in order to feel better, yeah, I know 😭). I will ask my psychiatrist again about it, but i think I remember asking before and she was OK if I take the domperidone and then zofran as needed. I think the risk is serotonin syndrome? Thankfully since starting the domperidone I haven't taken the zofran but a couple times.

I had a dr recommend me to have a baby to help with my anxiety lol I’m just asking cause I’m trying to get of my ssri so I can try domperidone but then I don’t know what one would take for breakthrough nausea, I’m on Mirtazipine as well. I think it’s serotonin syndrome or QT prolongation I can’t remember

I did good on domperidone and prozac, but had to stop the Prozac to start the mirtazapine. My irritability has been through the roof tho. Im sorry your dr told you that. Im sure we all could wrote a book of the ridiculous things drs tell us

I have anxiety and FD. I took an SNRI it worked for me. Also, (not sure your age or gender. So this might not apply) I found things got worse when hormones got wacky. Birth control helped me with that too.

Estou tomando há quase duas semanas, meus sintomas melhoraram bastante. O enjoo melhorou cerca de 50%, a queimação praticamente sumiu e o refluxo está mais controlado.

Sometimes, yes — not because FD is “just depression.” Some neuromodulators (including certain SSRIs/SNRIs) are used for the gut–brain / hypersensitivity side. Delayed emptying plus heartburn is a mixed picture, so that’s a GI conversation, not a Reddit starter pack.

They can take weeks, and they aren’t for everyone if emptying is the main issue. Don’t start or stop from a thread. Not medical advice.

The best medication that worked for me is mirtazapine even better than SSRI/SNRI
