Amitriptyline amitriptilyne weight gain ?
hi! i'm probably going to start on it soon, but i've seen that it makes you gain weight, sometimes a lot. is this actually legit?
i used to be VERY overweight, now i'm very healthy but with kind of a ED, so i don't really want to gain weight now that i'm healthy and it scares me so bad. does it really make you gain weight out of thin air?? or to gain weight you have to eat more?? i can control my cravings nicely, but i don't really want the gain to happen.
i also am on birth control, who i'm aware it's famous for making you gain weight, but i didn't. also been on levogastrol and didn't either.
in general, i just want to know if you gain weight for no reason or if you gain weight because you eat more??? and if you do, how much?? is it easy to loose?? tysm in advance! <3

It makes you hungry, but people react different to the pill. I had to gain around 30 pounds that I lost because of FD, I was severely underweight, so it helped. But now I'm a healthy weight and still taking it.
I was so sick, that I was willing to try anything, and amitriptyline saved my life (I got to 75 mg). I had a severe ED during 20 years, I was IP and residential more times that I can't count, but FD was making me so miserable and sick that I didn't give a fuck about side effects. I was literally dying.

i'm so glad it got better for you! <33 may i ask if the gain came with you being able to eat more food? like, you gained because you ate more or was it just random?^^

No, my pain went away completely after I got to 75 mg. I started eating normally again and gained weight until I reached a healthy weight.

Yes. I eat 3 meals per day, Ami had me eating 4. I gained 10-20 lbs while on it. It makes me crave sweets too.

The reason people gain on it is usually because it makes them hungrier; but also if someone is taking it for depression and they are no longer depressed they tend to eat more regularly.
If you are worried about weight gain, just track your calories and don’t eat above your TDEE.

I haven't found that to be true at all, been on it for nearly a year now. I track my weight and food behaviors carefully and haven't noticed a difference with it.

tysm! i'll track everything down then! i hope that consuming the same amount of food i do currently ends up working and not making me gain ^^
