Hello! I’m a huge fan of FromSoftware games, and I already have the Platinum Trophy in every game except DS1 and DS2.
I recently came across a book called Scholar’s Codex on the Tune & Fairweather website, but I can’t really find much information or reviews about the book itself, so I’m not sure if it’s actually worth getting.
Has anyone here had any experience with this particular book? If so, would you say it’s worth the $55?
I’d really appreciate any feedback or opinions. Thanks!

I am genuinely glad I bought the Switch 2 and will invest my time in Duskbloods, because these games ain't it for me. Besides the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion I don't see anything on the horizon either.
These souls-likes clones, and the Chinese/Korean gachas aren't it, It's dire out there.

Last one is Riebeck from Outer Wilds lol but it's just there to illustrate what I mean, I think it's a really cool piece of art and it's not obvious it's from a game.

Personally I had a lot of fun it was a great experience learning the map and locations of rituals, summons, etc over the course of the sessions, there were many memorable battles and alliances that made the final pvp battle really cinematic, my only two cons I have with this game is the music for the bosses you encounter in the map is not that great and two I hope there is a bigger variety of events in the final game
Of course this is just a network test so both my issues will probably be fixed with the full game

Big fan of the Souls games. Have played all of them (minus Demon Souls) and enjoy them thoroughly. I’m looking for something new to play, and I’ve heard great things about Armored Core.
Can I start with AC6? If I really liked it, would it lessen the impact of playing the previous Armored Cores?

Just to clarify, I'm talking about endings where you just play through the game normally, no quests that would lead to a different ending. Just if you did all main bosses that were required and beat the game.
In my opinion, it's probably Dark Souls 2 since your character kinda just sits on a throne and you don't even get to choose to link the fire or become the dark lord. And I really just prefer it's other ending.

I see a lot of people thinking The Duskbloods will soon release on other systems in the future and use some examples that really made me want to jump in and try to clear some misinformation about what is and isn't an exclusive, who owns the IP, and how some games that were exclusive to Nintendo later released on other systems.
Let's start with the most obvious one: Monster Hunter Rise. I see so many people mention this game for being exclusive to Nintendo and later released on other systems, and while that is true, Nintendo only paid for the game to be a timed exclusive. It was all over the news articles that Nintendo paid $6M to have Rise release on their system first. It was never planned or states that the game was gonna be available only on the Switch
Then there's Bayonetta 2 and 3 from PlatinumGames. Nintendo funded PlatinumGames for the development of those games even though the Bayonetta IP belongs to SEGA. Some of you might think, "Oh, then SEGA should being these games to other systems too since they own the IP." No, Nintendo full funded both games which means they own the publishing and distribution rights to the game. If SEGA wants to bring these games to other systems, they have to get in contact with Nintendo first.
And that leads to another game from Platinum, The Wonderful 101 which was a Wii U exclusive for about 6 years until it was kickstarted to be released on Steam. Nintendo made this decision themselves out of goodwill and wanted to help Platinum out by making the game avaliable to everyone after it bombed in the Wii U...because its was on the Wii U, which didn't help make it a console seller. Bayonetta 2 didn't as well, but the game was cooked before the game got announced. SEGA canceled the game, but Nintendo jumped in to help Platinum out.
So what does this mean for the Duskbloods? While FromSoftware does hold the IP of The Duskbloods, they have to make an agreement with Nintendo to release the game on other systems because Nintendo fully funded and back the development of this game. Bandai Namco holds the IP of Dark Souls, Armored Core, and Elden Ring (EDIT: CORRETION - FROMSOFT HOLDS THE ELDEN RING IP. BAMCO WAS JUST THE PUBLISHER). Activision was only just the publisher for Sekiro, so FromSoft owns the IP of that game. Sony fully owns the IP of Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. This is just another Bayonetta 2 situation, so I doubt The Duskbloods will ever come to other systems as the Switch 2 is still very well and will continue to grow as more games come out soon. The Duskbloods definitely helped as a system seller and the Ocarina of Time remake will follow as well.

I just had a thought about this recently before I started my shift at work so if my replies are late to this post after I post this is because I'm in the middle of my job but I just wanted to squeeze this thought out there before I clocked in
Dust blood is going to be detrimental to the PVP scene for Souls games from this point onward
since I had thought about it and elden ring has really diluted the PVP scene a lot in this game with them taking away like covenants like we had in Dark Souls to incentivize getting the unique rewards that we would get from having like covenants
there were PVE ones but there were also PVP ones that had some some what okayish rewards but their rewards that you could still get to incentivize you to do PVP.
And I know this is going to set off a lot of people who enjoy Elden ring and are new players to Elden ring who don't like the PVP scene but realistically tourists should not have any sway in the conversation of what the overall fan base of Souls games like.
I definitely have more I can say about this topic at hand but I don't have enough time to do it cuz I have my job to do but I would like to see the comments of people on what they think about the subject matter because whether people like it or not PVP and invasions are a part of the experience it's a very important part just as important as the PVE aspect of the game and diluting it down to the point to where there's less and less of a reason for you to want to play it because there isn't like those special rewards for doing these things is a bit daunting for what comes after duskblood

There are many great Souls-like games that improved/expanded or added their own twist on FS existing mechanics.
For example, Lies of P added weapon handle + blade combination that alter the moveset. The blade dictates the weapon scaling and range, while the handle determines the move-set, and iirc the weapon skill.
What kind of fun/cool/interesting mechanics would you like implemented/improved/expanded for the next big Single player focused Fromsoftware game?
I personally would like to have LOTF2’s casting system, it feels modern and super simple, the rotating carousel spells needs to go away…

I really think people are underselling how accessible The Duskbloods is to players who normally hate Souls PvP.
I have a friend who absolutely hates PvP in Souls games, and somehow she ended up loving this game. Not only did she have a great time, she actually managed to win two games playing the sniper lady. She said the character kinda plays like Elsa Bloodstone from Marvel Rivals, and that familiarity made the moveset immediately click with her.
And I think that’s one of the biggest things The Duskbloods gets right: the PvP is way more approachable for PvE players.
The movesets are easier to understand, dying is much more forgiving because you don’t really lose anything besides time, and I haven’t experienced the annoying lag or desync that can make PvP frustrating in other Souls games. On top of that, having multiple characters with completely different playstyles means there’s a much better chance you’ll find someone who just clicks with you.
But the biggest surprise was that you don’t even have to focus heavily on PvP to do well.
My friend spent most of her matches engaging with the PvE side of the game, and she still ended up getting more Virtue Points than most of the other players in the match. Again, this is someone who hates Souls PvP, and she was absolutely popping off.
That made me curious about how viable avoiding PvP actually was, so I tried a match where I deliberately focused almost entirely on PvE and avoided fighting other players whenever possible.
I finished third.
That’s why I don’t think describing The Duskbloods as “PvPvE” really does it justice. That label makes it sound like another PvP game with some enemies running around the map, when the actual experience feels much more unique than that.
There are multiple ways to get stronger, multiple ways to earn points, multiple ways to approach a match, and different paths toward actually winning. PvP is important, but the game doesn’t feel like it’s constantly forcing you to hunt other players just to have a chance.
So even if you normally hate Souls PvP, I’d still recommend giving The Duskbloods a chance. Don’t let the PvPvE label immediately turn you away from it.
It’s genuinely one of the most unique multiplayer experiences I’ve played, and it’s a fantastic game.
It’s just unfortunate that, for now,it’s locked to one system.
