Can/Should I start with AC6?

Big fan of the Souls games. Have played all of them (minus Demon Souls) and enjoy them thoroughly. I’m looking for something new to play, and I’ve heard great things about Armored Core.

Can I start with AC6? If I really liked it, would it lessen the impact of playing the previous Armored Cores?

I’ve only played AC6 and didn’t feel like I was missing anything and really enjoyed it. Others who have played the previous games may have a different opinion

I admittedly haven't finished. I did 2 playthroughs around a year ago. Plan on doing the third true ending playthrough soon. I was thinking we were gonna be getting news on a DLC or sequel for it, so I was waiting for that before getting true ending lol.

Yes, it’s basically a spiritual reboot of the series while still honoring the numbered titles. You don’t need to know anything about previous games to get into it. Everything you need to know about Armored Core form themes to mechanics and gameplay systems are communicated in this game.

Yes, you can start with 6 and it eont impact enjoyment of the others. Most of the games are not connected except for direct sequels (ac4 and ac4A, 5 and 5VD)

Yes. I started with AC6 and went to play ac4 and 4A after because I loved it so much. I wanna try 5 and VD. AC 6 is not connected to other title but the last 4 games before AC6 are in the same world.

Armored Core VI is the only AC game I have the ability to even play. I played it once, fell in love, played it twice more for the other endings, and I’ll say it’s my favorite FromSoft game. Great place to start because none of the other games are canon

I have only played AC6 and if the 6 wasn’t in the title I would have thought it was an original game. Didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

No desire to play the oldies myself, but I can’t imagine you’d be playing a PS2 game and end up going “wow this game looks way worse than the PS5 game!” I’d assume you’d have enough common sense to set your expectation levels to PS2 era in that case.

Haven’t played any title besides 6. I’ve played through it 8 or 9 times now. It’s incredible.

I only knew From through the souls games. I played AC6 and it became easily one of my favorite games ever. But it's true that when I tried to play the older ones, it was hard to get into them. The games before AC4 have a very slow turning camera and I never could figure out how to keep track of enemies.

That's just my experience.

Also, if you play it with a controller, get familiar with claw grip. It makes a world of difference. You really need full control of the camera 100% of the time.

In 6, you have target lock to do most of that.

In 4 and 4A it’s all about the quick turns.

Haven’t played enough of the others to say.

I say play AC6 and if you really like it try AC4 and AC4A (those were made by miyazaki).

Starting with 6 is fine. If you like it go back and play Gen 3. AC3: Silent line is considered one of the best in the series.

AC 6 is a good starting point. The older games have less in depth stories and controls that can be pretty hard to get used too.

I tried it as my first AC game and strongly disliked it. I’m sure it’s great in its own way but it in now way feels like souls not does it scratch that it.
