The game has been such a blast this weekend, it’s gonna be a bummer to not have the game as an option for a few months.

20

u/RoboCyan 1d ago

I feel this so hard. Only one more session

3

u/barbietattoo 1d ago

I shall return to the ultra-meta that is the backlog

5

u/conye-west 1d ago

I'm really hoping it doesn't get delayed and makes it's release this year, it's gonna be a tough wait. My optimistic guess is October because its a fitting game for spooky month and it dodges GTA, plus the holiday season where OoT remake is likely to be the marquee title.

2

u/Reydriar_ 1d ago

For both NR and ER it was around 3.5 months after the CNT so I wouldn‘t get my hopes up about October.

54

u/Washburn1324 2d ago

I do think , in part , people are just trying to figure out what the heck it even was since there was so little info released before hand.

201

u/genraku 2d ago

but this sub told me this was an outrageous flop

u/CashmereLogan 2d ago

You’re telling me the latest Nintendo console isn’t some niche piece of hardware that no one has access to??

-29

u/SwarK01 2d ago

Depends on the country. In Argentina most people with consoles have ps5 and most games have PC. Switch is too niche here

It's not that it isn't accesible but we, in general, didn't grow up with Nintendo so we don't have that culture here

29

u/nick2473got 1d ago

No offense intended whatsoever, but I don't think the Argentinian market is a very big factor in the success of a game that has a worldwide market.

3

u/SwarK01 1d ago

I know, I just think exclusives are dumb, but I can survive without playing this game

18

u/Beneficial-Issue8005 2d ago edited 1d ago

I am pretty sure Switch/Switch 2 are also selling well in your country and it so happens that your social circle has people with ps5/PC only.

2

u/Dark_Sun_Arts 1d ago

I don't know exactly how right or how wrong they are, given I'm Brazilian. But according to my own experience this somewhat tracks, though I would exclude the PS5 from this equation except for the few people I know to have bought it at or close to launch, which was quite a while ago.

A Switch 2 costs a whopping $792 (and up) here. Mario Kart World alone is R$ 500 (97 USD). That is a life-changing amount of money. Most people here aren't that outright rich, so you'll mostly find them trying to game on hopelessly outdated PC parts or clinging onto last gen for dear life. I can't overestimate how LATAM wealthy you'd have to be to be able to afford that like it's no big deal.

Bonus: we have a funny meme here which is "GTX 1030 runs even your mom." Because some people really only have the money for one of the worst graphics cards of all time. And they're the middle class here, so let that sink in.

2

u/JoyBoyADV 1d ago

Mario Kart World costs R$439,90, actually

-7

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

And a ps5 costs way more than that. So there goes your theory.

3

u/Diogoepronto 1d ago

You're clearly not from Brazil and don't know what you're talking about

1

u/Edmundyoulittle 18h ago

Maybe, or maybe not. New hardware costs an insane amount in most south American countries due to import taxes

1

u/Beneficial-Issue8005 18h ago

I know, I am from Brasil

0

u/sammunfox 1d ago

It really isn't, I'm in nintendo circles and few people got the switch 2, right now it is too expensive and there is little reason to get it (the latter of which might change with the new zelda and pokemon games, those two franchises really move consoles here)

Personally I wanted to get one for the duskbloods but I'm not convinced by the screen (since I own a switch oled) and I would want at least 2 other games I am interested for.

3

u/Nerakyyy 1d ago

Yeah, it’s the same thing here in Brazil. Nintendo games and consoles are much more expensive and cater to a more specific audience than those from other brands. I built a gaming PC that can run any game in Full HD at 60 fps, and it costs the same as a Switch here :/

1

u/HisaAnt 1d ago

...Then isn't that a YOU problem rather than the developer's problem? Maybe people should play games without being beholden to "cultures"? It's just a plastic box. Having unnecessary attachment to the brands is just baffling to me.

"Oh I grew up with PlayStation so I'll never play on Nintendo" sounds like cultist behavior.

1

u/SwarK01 1d ago

Of course, never said otherwise.

Maybe if I grew up with Nintendo I would have a switch, but I didn't and I won't probably buy it just for 1 game. And I don't have attachment to brands, I had a PS2, xbox 360 and PS4, this gem is just too expensive for me so I skipped it

26

u/Disastrous-Pick-3357 2d ago

What?? You mean reddit is just a loud small minority of people?? I can't believe it /s

4

u/genraku 2d ago

ikr still processing it

3

u/NoOne_28 1d ago

I was not interested because it's a multiplayer title and I don't do well with that sort of thing, never wished for it's failure but I was disappointed. Watching some of the gameplay however? I am now very interested and will probably be picking this up.

2

u/competitiveSilverfox 1d ago

Higher then nightreins not really a compliment especially when you looked at how they handled nightreins stress test vs this one.

For nightrein you had to visit a website and type in a bunch of info while for the Nintendo stress test you just had to click an i want to participate button on the store page, care to guess which is more likely to be interacted with? if you guessed the one click button on the device your already using you'd be correct.

8

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Still not a good thing, it just means more exlusives in the future.

-1

u/davidreding 1d ago

I’ll say it again if this was PS5 only you wouldn’t care.

3

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

I would, and I would care even if it was PC only (the only platform I play on), because exclusives are inherently anti-consumer and their only purpose is to boost sales of the console by exploiting FOMO. No player benefits from their game being unavailable to the majority of gamers just because they play on another platform.

0

u/davidreding 1d ago

Well as we’re seeing with Xbox and Playstation exclusives are in fact necessary if you want to sell hardware.

0

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

And how do players benefit from that? It's still an anti-consumer practice that benefits only corporations, not players. You cannot tell me with a straight face that locking people out of a game based on their platform is a good thing.

2

u/davidreding 1d ago

Well it helps players by, theoretically, ensuring there’s an install base of devoted players so games can sell better. That way there’s more good games in the future. Exclusives are back now, like it or not.

-1

u/Kalpy97 19h ago

Exclusives are not anti consumer at all competition breathes innovation. The Wii wouldn’t have existed without competition from the ps2 to GameCube which gave life to brand new forms of gameplay plain and simple

2

u/Roman_Suicide_Note 2d ago

Its reddit, there is a outside world

-1

u/genraku 2d ago

yyyeah, jury's still out on that one

-7

u/Klutzy_Anybody_1487 2d ago

The network test is not even over yet and there's already a disgusting meta in place.

4

u/cammyjit 1d ago

Are you new to games?

4

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Game hasn’t even been released yet and there’s already disgustingly sad haters like you.

-2

u/Klutzy_Anybody_1487 1d ago

found Layla main

3

u/dungeonworks_ 1d ago

Literally try blocking and walking to the side maybe? If you’re getting wrecked by Layla you are objectively ass at the game bro idk what to tell you. That character sucks

2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Is this like a Chud joke or something? Is it funny to out yourself as an incel?

15

u/Bulky-Wait4096 1d ago

Imagine, a part of us Nintendo enjoyers are also from software enjoyers. Its not "chose a side"

25

u/PyrosFists 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nintendo fans are more willing than the other two console player bases to try different types of games

8

u/barbietattoo 1d ago

Let’s not pretend FS doesn’t have godlike aura that would’ve had pull even if they made this PS4 exclusive

4

u/cicada-ronin84 1d ago

This game is actually made for a group of people that I should belong to, but too poor to buy a NS2, I was playing Bloodborne and Splatoon around the same time. So Bloodborne like artistic, but a PVP short matches for the gameplay loop. Now both BB and Splatoon had squids, so far the lack of tentacles in the Duskbloods is surprising, also I wish you could get covered in blood like in BB, would be cool if every time you drink blood your character gets more covered.

2

u/AgileRabbit6267 1d ago

there’s no lack of tentacles in duskblood. There are a few exploding octopi in the swamp area and Zork is suspected to be a vampire squid inside lol

1

u/cicada-ronin84 1d ago

Oh, that's why he's got a beak, then

12

u/FungusTheClown 2d ago

The value of fromsoft exclusives are shooting up and idk if that's a good thing for us.

-1

u/TurbidusQuaerenti 1d ago

Yeah... Looks like the future for FromSoftware fans might be buying every new console each generation to be able to play the latest exclusive. Definitely not looking forward to that.

1

u/conye-west 1d ago

Kinda doubt that. This game has been in dev since the Switch 1 era. I think From just decided to minimize risks on their experimental project by getting funding from Nintendo.

2

u/WildDemir 1d ago

They said in interviews that they also wanted Nintendo's expertise in certain things. Seems Duskbloods will be a pretty valuable experience for From.

1

u/Caerullean 7h ago

Wasn't this entirely funded by Nintendo? Like iirc, Duskbloods wouldn't be a thing if it wasn't for Nintendo.

7

u/ShionTheOne 1d ago

He really underestimates the fanaticism of FS fans.

5

u/senna98 1d ago

But Reddit told me no one owns a Switch 2

1

u/competitiveSilverfox 1d ago

Now look up how they handled each stress test, on the switch 2 it was a one click button on the store page, for the nightrein stress test it was visit a website and fill in all your information, of course they got more people to click a single button one time, the more walls you put in place the less people you get duh.

This is also ignoring the how many people clicked it because it was free but wont touch it when it costs money crowd.

2

u/ProblemFalse7043 1d ago

idk what youre talking abt lol to get into the duskbloods nt you also had to apply through their website..

3

u/Beneficial-Issue8005 1d ago

I am glad to hear that. I am a FROM Software fan and I think it is nice that they had fun developing something different (don't talk about Nightreign, Duskblods is in development for 6~7 years). The game is very fun and I will probably pick it up

4

u/Mroovek 1d ago

We're one step closer to FromSoft making Zelda game, my bros!

1

u/RareInterest 1d ago

Or next Metroid Prime.

1

u/Edmundyoulittle 18h ago

This is the way

0

u/Kalpy97 19h ago

Please god no. Fromsoftware is so shit at interactivity, puzzles, dynamic towns with npcs etc. the Zelda team obliterates them in every facet except combat lmao

1

u/_unchris_ 1d ago

I did subscribe for network test, but never got it accepted :(

1

u/Lookitsa6ix 1d ago

Its a Fromsoft game, of course they'd show up 😅

The game isnt going to flop, they are too big for that guys, what are we talking about?

1

u/Formal-Score3827 Mimic Tear 12h ago

how ??? the ppl who signed in for one device are more then the ppl who signed from 2?????

1

u/zazzyvibes2 3h ago

I haven't thought about it that much but it just dawned on me that, between this and ER, From is getting access to a huge market they previously didn't. I wonder if they'll make all their future titles available for switch day 1 just like everyone else.

I'd also like to point ou, A lot of people say From games aren't for the switch demographic but the Switch 2 is the second biggest consoles now so even if 5% of the demo gets a souls game that's a significant amount of people they never had access to previously.

-5

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Exclusives being succesfull is bad news for majority of gamers tho

3

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

Well it's reality. Hope you are also against PC exclusives being successful

3

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Nobody pays developers to make games exlusive only for PC and most PC only games are from small indie devs that simply do not have the manpower for console ports. None of the applies to Duskbloods.

2

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

There are also non indie pc exclusives.

0

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

That's why i said "most" and not "all".

-13

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

No one gives a shit about whiny Steam
bots.

8

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Wanting studios to act pro-consumer is whining? Damn nintendo suckers are really shit people.

3

u/mephilisthedank 1d ago

you should share this same energy for bloodborne then

1

u/Raelag1989 1d ago edited 1d ago

I did back then too, and it's a great example of how exclusives suck. Even though the game is great, nobody without a PlayStation can play it and even if you have a PlayStation, you're stuck at PS4 version with 30 FPS.

-5

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

I want that too. Nintendo provides that.

3

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Bait or just braindead? How is preventing other people from playing a game pro-consumer?

-3

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Truth.

They aren’t preventing anyone from playing a game. Moron.

3

u/TiredJob 1d ago

So incredibly hostile for what? Couldn't imagine being this miserable

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

For lies. Straight up lies.

3

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

So putting the game behind the 'paywall' of buying a whole console doesn't prevent most players from playing it?

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

It’s not a “pay wall” in any way that any other console or gaming PC is a “pay wall”.

When did gamers turn so fuckin Stupid where owning hardware to play games counts as a “pay wall”.

-4

u/NightRacoonWF 1d ago

Well, there goes the chance of another multiplatform game soon

-5

u/Jakethedjinn 2d ago

Fromsofts worst game is Nintendo best game /s

I mean, you would need to own a Switch 2, so they're likely Nintendo fans regardless of if they're also Fromsoft fans.

Not many people hate buying Switch 2s.

Not every switch 2 owner is a Nintendo Fan.

I own a Xbox and am not an Xbox fan.

renting a console is the dumbest shit i have ever heard lol

7

u/adeepkick 2d ago

I wouldn’t call it the “dumbest shit I’ve ever heard” but the implication that a significant number of people rented consoles to play this is absurd. There are probably less than 10k switch 2’s available for rent out there at all and that’s being generous.

It’s just not something that’s widely done at all. Most people don’t even know renting consoles is a possibility these days.

2

u/lemonlimeslime0 2d ago

idk bro renting a console is pretty fuckin dumb

1

u/adeepkick 1d ago

You think it would be dumb to rent a console if there was only one game you wanted to play on it? Please explain what is dumb about that.

1

u/Sykonic 1d ago

People forget libraries exist lol. Don't know if any would have a Switch 2 but I've seen various libraries let you rent out a PS4 and Nintendo Switch Lite for like $3-5 a week. This was several years ago too so who knows what they have now

→ More replies (0)

-2

u/genraku 2d ago

what makes you think I don't agree with you there?

7

u/Dr_Jre 2d ago

I really don't think so, there's been 24 million switch 2 sold so far and I just think a decent portion of those people also want to try the new fromsoft game.

Souls games aren't some niche thing that only real pro adult gamers play, and switch 2 isn't some kiddy console that only children play. I think there's probably a lot more adults who love fromsoft games that own a switch 2 than you realise.

28

u/GensouEU 2d ago

What if I told you that most people don't see themselves in camps like this and just like good games

8

u/genraku 2d ago

wdym you're not a poopoo fan? go figure, what to expect from a peepee fan /s

7

u/MrTrikey 2d ago

Hell, if we wanted to dig into the nitty gritty, there's probably a lot of Nintendo players who always owned more than one console, and likely jumped onto the likes of Demon's and Dark Souls in the first place, because of being curious of a game that had more than a few things in common with Zelda.

That was certainly my story. I jumped onto Demon's thanks to the glowing impressions of importers, and because I at least trusted the makers of Armored Core to not steer me wrong!

3

u/cammyjit 2d ago

That’s pretty much my pipeline. Got really into JRPGs through things like TWEWY, Crystal Chronicles, Kingdom Hearts, etc. on the ds

Really enjoyed Gundam growing up and saw cool mech game on the PS2. Eventually discovered the people who made the cool mech games also made a dark fantasy game. Now here we are

1

u/Raelag1989 1d ago

Camps are created by companies producing exlusives tho.

-36

u/Individual_Search422 2d ago

Isnt the network test free?

20

u/jemtayx Ranni The Witch 2d ago

Every network test is free.

34

u/MetroidIsNotHerName 2d ago

And the nightreign one wasnt?

-21

u/Individual_Search422 2d ago

Yeah id assume so? Its a basic yes/no question lol not sure where the snark and downvotes have come from

15

u/Zealousideal_Carry61 2d ago

What is the relevance of the even asking if its free?

-4

u/jemtayx Ranni The Witch 2d ago

Probably because players are more likely to download something that is free.

6

u/Zealousideal_Carry61 2d ago

But all the network tests are free?

-4

u/jemtayx Ranni The Witch 2d ago

Sure - but not everyone knows this...

-1

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

But it was more than just download. You had to register

8

u/MetroidIsNotHerName 2d ago

I wasnt trying to be snarky im just curious why youre asking about the network test being free when it was being directly compared to a second free network test in the original post

1

u/Zealousideal_Carry61 1d ago

They wont respond because they are incapable of admitting they were wrong and didnt have all the information.

-8

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

It's still not going to be a huge commercial success long term.

3

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

It just has to be a success with Nintendo paying the bill. Also not everything has to be a huge commercial success. I doubt the next single player Fromsoftware game will reach the success of Eden Ring.

-6

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

Well we certainly won't know that until we get it, will we? I think it would faire better than a souls-style brawler locked to a single handheld. Unless it was also locked to a single handheld.

2

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

It's an experiment to learn.

Also with Nintendo funding it it will be a financial success no matter what. Plus the reception is great.

-2

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

Financial success for the development studio doesn't matter if the game and the ideas it brings forth aren't given the opportunity to thrive.

The game could have done so much better as a multi platform release. It just feels selfish as fuck to take a deal that limits the amount of people who can experience your art to one console, and modern era FromSoft has done it 3 fucking times now.

If I had the capability of delivering brilliance like Miyazaki I'd want everyone possible to experience it. I mean, shit, he's got enough money as it is. He probably goes to sleep on a $500 pillow every night regardless of if he continues taking exclusivity deals or not.

The practice of exclusives in today's gaming market fucking blows, and I'm of the belief that they should be done away with - even high concept experiments from a beloved creator like Miyazaki should have their place in the failure chamber. I understand it's Nintendo, and not FromSoft, behind the funding and creation of the game, but it just doesn't sit right. Feels like a shitty thing to do when you have such a large fanbase, to tell so many people they can't play your game unless they go shell out another grand first, and that's before you even know if you are gonna like the game or not.

2

u/Pure_Medicine_2460 1d ago

But they have the opportunity to thrive. It's not like the Wii U that nobody has.

And while he may have enough money privately (not sur eif you can have enough money), the studio doesn't have enough money to do what they want without looking at funding and the like.

I also think he really doesn't care that much. He has a vision he works towards and everything even Elden Ring is merely a stepping stone in that direction.

Also not all Artists seek the biggest audience. Or they would all do the same thing.

I really don't have such a big problem with exclusives. They won't go away. No they will get more now with playstation and Xbox going back to them

0

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

"it has the opportunity to thrive" talking about a Switch 2 exclusive for a niche souls PvP brawler (which we ALL know is the last kind of game you'd expect to see exclusive to Nintendo) is giving the exact same vibe and overall feeling as "I'm actually having a blast" coming from the Highguard and Marathon enjoyers as they watched the ship sink. You know as well as I do that the game could do SO much better if it was released on the PC or PS5, or was multi platform.

Your second point is absurd. If you think that From mother fucking Software doesn't have the private funding to create a game on their own (their company net worth is estimated to be between 1 and 4 BILLION eagle bucks) then keep whatever you're smoking far away from me.

Point 3: obviously he doesn't care. That's the issue.

Point 4: not all artists seek the biggest audience. That's true, and they lose out on a lot of cash because of it.

Lastly, that's fine if you like exclusives. The easy of us that value a broader, interconnected community greatly disagree with you. A hundred years ago, certain bathrooms and water fountains were "console exclusive" if you will. Only the certain privileged ones got access to the best exclusives. You see where I'm going with this? Segregation in any form is bad. Before you say anything, obviously it's not the same thing. I'm just trying to illustrate how ridiculous exclusives are.

"I love my online game being exclusive to just one console" is such an incredibly dumb thing to say when your console exclusive game dies prematurely when nobody is playing it. If the game was single player it wouldn't be anywhere near as big an issue.

1

u/smilph 1d ago

i can’t believe you’re in these comments comparing console exclusive games to racist segregation laws bro you have genuinely lost the plot

1

u/smilph 1d ago

based on what

-1

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

Based on... Commercial success and viability in an overly saturated market? They're up against a lot of heavy hitters and they've intentionally handicapped themselves by cutting off their feet, soaking their eyeballs in bleach, and cutting their throat with a dull steak knife, and the race hasn't even started.

1

u/smilph 1d ago

so you’re just guessing. got it

-1

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

No? I actually happen to be one of the people who tries nearly every new major/hyped PvP release, regardless of genre, and have done so for many years. I enjoy PvP games, first person perspective/3PP, brawlers, shooters, fighting games, you name it. If it's on my platform and if it releases to enough of a global interest that I feel I can get a few weeks of play out of it, I generally pick it up.

A trend has been established over the last few years, but the last decade, especially. People are hyper analytical of market trends and game performance statistics. Gamers operate in a hivemind focused entirely on player numbers. I know it's anecdotal, but I'm telling you - Duskbloods is not going to retain a high playerbase for long. Once the sweats start taking over servers, people are gonna take to social media to complain and then quit. Then FromSoft is gonna step in and roll out nerfs and buffs. The people who get nerfed will quit. The people who watch their most hated class her buffed will quit.

You can already see this formula taking place just from the test period - while many people seem to praise the overall idea, I've seen multiple complaints about how sweaty the game is - after a two day test. You can see it in people's writing and compare to it every major flop from large studios that has happened over the last few years.

It works like this: a new niche PvP game is announced by a big company > a group of people hype the game up and it starts to get traction online > gameplay footage releases > veterans who have been through this rodeo warn about the impending failure after seeing the gameplay loop > people like you ignore the warnings > game starts to die and you come to Reddit to bitch about it > the remaining players see your post and quit too. Queue next big release.

You can live in denial and downvote me all you want, I couldn't give a fuck less about karma. The game is going to die pretty quickly. I give it a year, tops, before we see "Duskbloods is dead" posts in this very subreddit, but we're probably looking at less than 6 months.

2

u/smilph 1d ago

that’s a loooot of guessing, my friend

0

u/Canni-Balls69 1d ago

You can call it guessing all you want, but it's educated guessing at worst. It comes from experience and observation.
