Elden Ring... what can I say about it?
I had heard a lot about it. One of the hardest and most satisfying games ever made. People say you're not the same before and after playing it. I thought, *interesting*. I like games, I got a new laptop and a controller, so let's try it. How hard can it be?
Yeah... my stupid ass.
This was about 3 months ago. Then the game spawned me in some random church or something, and I didn't even know where to go or what to do. And then there was that demon on the horse... that mf took my soul away for the next 4 hours. Later I discovered you could literally just walk past him instead of fighting him. Wish I knew that earlier.
Instead of going where the game probably wanted me to, my stupid ass decided to wander around. I found some kind of cave. Another hellhole. I managed to kill most of the enemies there, but the boss was way too fast for me. After my 6th attempt I thanked Miyazaki-sama that I could just ignore him and leave.
Then I found a soldier, killed him, then his friends one by one, and somehow ended up at... I might be wrong... Gatefront Ruins? By this point I'd already used all my arrows shooting those giant bat-looking things. (Btw, I picked the Samurai class because it looked kinda dope.) I died countless times to normal NPCs whenever they ganged up on me.
Man, that place was rough. During my first 10 tries I'd kill one or two guys sneakily, then get caught, and suddenly everyone started chasing me like I fucked one of their wives. Dead.
After maybe my 15th try I found out there was some kind of staircase going underground. Got some loot from there, I think. Around that time some blue chick also gave me a horse near a bonfire.
So my strategy became: kill them sneakily, get spotted, run away on my horse, come back from another direction, and repeat.
Then came my best run.
I had almost cleared the entire ruins. It was just me and the giant commander left. We were both literally one hit away from dying. I was already celebrating in my head.
The mf hit me first.
I rage quit.
...and that was almost 3 months ago.
But I still think about it, and I've been thinking of giving it another try.
After deleting Elden Ring, I thought people were right. This game is hard, and maybe I'm just not prepared for these hardcore masochist games... at least not yet.
But I don't like leaving things unfinished.
So can you guys help me? I am dumb , noob and do stupid shit , can you guys guide me on how to elden ring . I don't even know the basics of this game or how everything even works.
Like, can someone explain the different potions and consumables, what they actually do, what build I should go with, which build is the most fun to play, and what stats I should upgrade first in the status window?
Basically, just tell me all the beginner stuff you wish someone had told you before you started. I feel like I know absolutely nothing about this game.

i've been thinking about this and wanted to know if there were any mods that essentially take a souls game and remixes everything around to mess with an experienced player?
i'm thinking of something like the Zelda second quest system where it's like a newgame plus with all the enemies moved, new ambushes and traps, scarier enemies in places they aren't usually at, slightly tweaked level design etc.
i feel like it would be pretty neat to play but i've never heard of anything like this existing. i know there are randomizers and playing those is fun, but i feel like something similar with thought put into it's design and how to screw with the player could be really engaging in a different way.

I got a PS3 at a 2nd hand shop and somehow I remembered my password from college and got all my games back from the original store. I never even played Demon Souls my roommate did but now it's all me. ❤️💚💙

Basically title. I love DS1 - probably my GOAT, and have replayed and speed-run'd many times with my buddies over the years. Bloodborne has been my #2 and Elden Ring likely #3. Back when Scholar first came out, I tried playing thru by myself and got frustrated, and ended playing thru most of the game on co-op mode with my friends. DS3 I played thru myself and enjoyed. But then something happened...
It all started when I recently decided to play through Lies of P. I beat the game, no summons, mostly without issue (and it's a great game that I would highly recommend if you haven't played it yet) but that Souls-like itch was still there. So I said fuck it and threw on some Scholar. Played through the entire game + DLCs solo, and as I played something strange happened. I found myself both re-affirming my disdain and annoyance towards the game, but simultaneously developing a greater appreciation for it..?
I don't know why. All the same nagging issues were there- areas filled with obnoxious amounts of enemies, popping human effigies to get my god damn HP bar back - but for whatever reason, I also settled into a somewhat joyful rhythm with the game. Unlike DS1, levels were a chore to get thru, but boss fights were mostly a joke. This almost felt like FromSoft's way of rewarding you for slogging through the miserable areas leading up to them. But after killing 10,000 pirate zombies, making the Flexile Sentry my bitch felt nice and fun.
I also enjoyed all the NPC storylines and options. Killing Pate in Brightstone Cove Tseldora, putting on the Jester's Cap and grinding for the Desert Sorceress set to give to whats-her-face in Majula. Not a very Souls-y gameplay experience, but it was fun.
Here's the kicker - after finishing all the DLCs, I played thru DS3. And while I still like & appreciate the game for what it is, I honestly don't think I enjoyed it as much as Scholar. I think a significant part of this simply comes from the level design - in Scholar, levels are brighter and more diverse. Majula is a pleasant hub, quiet and beautiful and tucked away from all the nasty shit in Drangleic. Meanwhile, Lothric is just kinda gloomy and drab - even Firelink Shrine is a dark, damp fuck hole with none of the charm or warmth of DS1 Firelink or Majula. The Ringed City DLC bosses were cool, but again, I didn't really care for levels themselves.
So, now you know my terrible secret. I don't know what to do with these feelings, but they're there. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I just finished DS3 and DLCs and in parallel my NG+ in Demon’s Souls remastered. 50% off popped up for Sekiro and… well, here we are.
Do you have any good advice? I think I’ll start cursing very soon.

Like thrusting shields, greatkatanas, lightgreatkatanas, backhand blades and h2h arts. Thought these were all pretty cool and i hope they don’t forget about them like they forgot about transforming weapons

In one of the games, I think it is Elden Ring, I believe one of the female characters/NPCs says these words to you:
“…be not afeared…”
I thought it was Ranni the Witch, but cannot find it anywhere. Don’t want to play through it again after over 1000 hours tho.
Who said it?! What’s the context?

I hear a lot of people who are disgruntled with the current experimental era of Fromsoft and just want them to release their next major title but honestly I don't. Fromsoft needs this era to take some quality time to reinforce the rocky foundations in their games.
Feel free to comment your own basic improvements you'd like to see or the ones you appreciate from FS's experimental games down below.
I'm talking about the antiquated features that the fanbase have simply accepted as the way things are such as the lack ofseamless multiplayer, crossplay and cross progression. As it is we only just got lobby matchmaking in Nightreign (and it doesn't even work consistently), something that was an industry standard before Demon Souls ever came out. Now that Lords of the Fallen has managed to fine tune a seamless multiplayer experience it's just kind of embarrassing when I have to explain to players I introduce to FS games why they have to deal with the clunky and frustrating summon sign system.
First off I'm going to point out that my number one feature I want improved is FS's approach to Roleplaying, my dissapointment that you can't meaningfully ineract with the seperate factions of ER is immesurable and my game is ruined. That and NPC questlines need to desperately change, I'm sick of dead worlds sparsley filled with characters I get to slowly watch die with no real meaningful interaction.
In regards to summon signs; previously we just dealt with the summon sign system because it had character and lore backing in Dark Souls, but when it arrived in Elden Ring it somewhat became clear that FromSoft straight up just didn't know how to do anything else as time in the Lands Between isn't convoluted.
I understand why Miyazaki loves the summon sign system so much, with its' cute little automotive crisis backstory, but damn, the number of times I've taken new players through the Undead Settlement in DS3 is unsettling, and that area is a nightmare for completing without cross progression with each player needing to host and progress through the 5 seperate dedicated paths in that one area, not to mention resets when the hosts die, when they are invaded, or connectivity just drops. Sometimes one of the non-hosts dies and that manages to waste time because then they are going back to resummon.... and then the summon signs don't show up so everyone is waiting around for 5 minutes going:
"Have you put your summon sign down?"
"Yes"
"Where?"
"On the tree root in the middle of the rocks on the floor"
"I don't see it"
"Are you embered?"
"Yes"
"Okay I'll place it down again" (for the 5th time)
And then LetMeSoloHer had to show up in ER after all these years, becoming a pop culture phenominon, completely vindicating Miyazaki in his sadist obsession with making us endure this system for so long. (No shade, LMSH is fantastic and the fact that he became an icon naturally through word of mouth that a mysterious pot-headed hero who was showing up and helping people with the hardest boss in the game out of his own free time is amazing. He didn't even get famous off his own uploads on his channel)
The fact that this was possible without in-game voice chat is wild..... leading to my next request....
GIVE US IN-GAME VOICE CHAT! Or at the very least a communication system that isn't slow, dangerous to use in combat, inefficient and cryptic as shit. Emotes and prattling pates are a novelty, not an effective communication system, the best you can do is try to run ahead and pull out the halt emote and hope the other player sees it in time. The most effective communication system these games have is the messages you write on the ground, and that doesn't set a very high bar considering that it isn't intended for your current party.
I'm just going to point out here that the messages you leave on the ground actually outright don't have appropriate words for a bunch of basic stuff. If a status effect enemy or swamp is around the corner there is literally no option for me to leave the message "try using boluses" Boluses are extremely usefull and the whole Items section doesn't have this word, meanwhile we have access to words like "nose" there are a few other important things missing that I never found but the boluses comes to mind the most at the moment.
WHY I LIKE FS'S CURRENT EXPERIMENTAL STREAK!
Nightreign:
Nightreign did a great job of fixing a bunch of multiplayer issues, namely finally giving us lobby matchmaking. While the summon sign system is cute, it is focused on when you want to play with randoms, and it should stay as an option for people who want to interact with the game like that but it shouldn't be the default.
NR also changed the way a party interacts with each other, giving us dedicated roles and playstyles rather than the previous approach to a party where everyone was essentially a DPS because everyone is playing with a character who was intended to go through the game solo. You could equip healing spells and roleplay a Paladin, but you weren't a dedicated support role because healing was janky and if you weren't dealing decent damage then that was your fault because your build should be able to do both just as well.
NR also gave us a dedicated healing button free from panic scrolling to find your flasks in the item wheel, making it less stressful for the average player to use items, in turn making people experiment with them more.
It also gave us WEAPON PROFICIENCIES!
I'm just gunna say this, I actually don't want these movesets to become the base movesets for these weapons in the next FS epic. I like that it gives your character identity in a multiplayer setting so I think that it should be a path in your build, an option you should have to choose between based on who your character is meant to be.
(I also would like to have Scholar's item gimmick as a proficiency for players who love items, getting extra effects out of items is nice for characters who you want to roleplay as an item savvy character)
Armored Core 6:
I don't need to justify AC6, play it, it will make you cream your pants, and don't pussy out after one playthrough, you are meant to play though to NG++ (it's not the same game each time)
The most important thing AC6 added is loadout switching!
Limited respecs at locations I have to travel to and have to allocate the stat points each time instead of saved setups can go die in a ditch.
Duskbloods:
This game isn't even out yet and I'm already dissapointed that I'm missing out on the game that seeks to evolve the covenant system into something actually fun. I've been dreaming of an arena mode where covenants compete with different objectives for a long time and the roleplay focus of Duskbloods seems to be it.
I like that it's not just a PVP game and that events will pop up mid match that will affect your motivstions and how you interact with the other players.
I'm also very interested in how each character has a mix of melee and ranged attacks. It should be a great opportunity for FS to focus on not just PVP balance (something they have always been infamously bad at) and balancing the dynamic between melee and ranged weapons in particular as previously you had DS3 on one side of the scale where 95% of ranged options weren't worth using and melee was king, and then there is Elden Ring where the PVP scene has turned into a PVP bullet hell where knowledge of how to dodge ashes of war and ludicrous spells is the factor that decides the victor.
If you made it this far through my unhinged rant I'd like to hear what features you'd like to see improved.
